It is expected that recent development of mechanical models will soon supersede previous empirical methods of detailing. In this study, a mechanical model is proposed to analyze the behavior of the anchorage zone of prestressed concrete members. The main characteristics of the proposed model lies in its rational consideration of material properties such as concrete strength in biaxial stress state and that of local zone reinforced by spirals. The shear friction strength of concrete surrounding a spiral is also considered. The computational results of the proposed model as well as the existing Strut-and-Tie model(STM) and nonlinear finite element analysis are compared with experimental results. The results of the comparison revealed that the proposed model showed better prediction of the failure mode as well as the failure load. Additionally, the proposed model also explained the three-dimensional failure mechanism very well, while other methods based on two-dimensional analysis could not do so well.

Strands with ultimate strength of 2,400 MPa was developed and applied in the KCI Code and the KS standard. A high-strength prestressed strand to be applied to a structure, a suitable anchorage system should be used together. Recently, a post tension anchorage for 2,400 MPa strands was developed. but there is not much research on performance evaluation. Therefore, in this study, structural analysis of local zone with 9 strands, 15 strands, and 19 strands anchorage were investigated respectively, which are most widely used for post tensioning anchorages with 2,400 MPa strands, according to PTI anchorage zone design method, and Load transfer performance from ETAG013 and/or KCI-PS101 was evaluated. Furthermore, the adequacy of the test was also analyzed by nonlinear numerical analysis. As results, the anchorages with 2,400 MPa strands satisfied the structural performance of the local area and satisfied the load transfer performance condition.

Bursting stress in anchorage zone of post tension girder can be estimated based on Guyon's equation. The major parameters in calculating bursting stress are prestressing force and the distance ratio between concrete edge and anchorage plate. Although Guyon's equation can be applied to calculate bursting stress for rectangular typed as well as circular typed plate, there is some limitation of accuracy due to 2 dimensional analysis. Therefore this study is proposed to suggest a bursting stress equation based on 3 dimensional finite element method.

This study evaluates the behavior and strength of an anchorage zone of the prestressed concrete box girder bridge on the Kyungboo highway railroad using the 2D SUB-3D STM approach and a linear elastic finite element analysis. The 2D SUB-3D STM approach utilizes several two-dimensional sub strut-tie models that represent the compressive and tensile stress flows of each projected plane of the three-dimensional structural concrete in the selection of a three dimensional strut-tie model, evaluation of the effective strengths of the concrete struts, and verification of the geometric compatibility condition and bearing capacity of the critical nodal zones in the selected three-dimensional strut-tie model. The finite element analysis uses an 8-node brick element and the longitudinal prestressing force is considered as the equivalent nodal force. Analysis results show that the 2D SUB-3D STM approach and linear elastic finite element method can be effectively applied to the analysis and design of three-dimensional structural concrete including a prestressed concrete box girder anchorage zone.

An experimental study to evaluate bursting behavior in anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders (span length : 30 m) has been carried out. The arrangement of bursting reinforcement in anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders is considered to be designed without accurately reflecting the stress flows in the end zone of the PSC I girders caused by presstressing forces of the tendons. Also, due to excessive arrangement of the bursting bars, the workability of the girder is decreased greatly. In this study, three specimens with the same dimensions as the end zone of the standard PSC I girder are prepared and the experiment is carried out by applying PS forces. The bursting reinforcement of each specimen consists of 100 mm, 200 mm, and 300mm spacings, respectively. The experimental results show that the range of the PS forces to cause crack in the anchorage zone of the specimen are more than 1.6 times of the design PS forces. The bursting cracks occur in the vertical direction on the inside of all specimens. After applying 2.7 times of the design PS force, some of the transverse bursting reinforcements only in the specimen reinforced by 300 mm spacing yielded. The experimental results show that the anchorage zone of the standard PSC I girders arranged by 300 mm spacing of the bursting reinforcements which is the maximum spacing allowed in the road bridge design specifications, can be considered safe enough.

The Steel-Confined Prestressed Concrete Girder(SCP Girder) has been developed, which maximizes structural advantages of components (concrete, steel plate and tendon) and can be used to construct the middle or long span bridge with low-height girder. And recently, a continuous beam type of SCP Girder has been being developed to decrease size and self weight of girder in comparison with a simply-supported type. In this study, as part of developing the continuous beam type of SCP Girder, a new type of anchorage zone is proposed in order to address tendons effectively and decrease section size of SCP Girder efficiently. And also, the experimental test was carried out using a real scale specimen to examine the behavior of proposed anchorage zone.

For evaluating equations of bursting force in different codes, comparative study of the formulas was conducted. Because the equations does not consider variables such as shape of anchorages and duct, a relation between the bursting forces and the variables has to be analyzed. In this paper, the bursting forces equation was proposed by finite element analysis. As evaluation through comparison of the proposed equation with the previous ones and an experiment, it was figured out that bursting force computed by the proposed equation could be used for design of reinforcement in the anchorage zone.

In this paper, the prestressing order of tendons is studied to minimize a bursting force of an anchorage. The bursting forces is a primary factor of anchorage failures. The forces of the anchorage depend on the prestressing order and size of the tendons, if a lot of tendons are introduced to the anchorage. Many studies have been made to analyze the bursting force of the anchorage. However, the studies have been limited to the bursting forces of the anchorage having one or two tendons. PSC box girder bridges usually have a lot of tendons. And the difference of the bursting forces lies in the prestressing order of the tendons. As a result of the lack of studies on the prestressing order for the bridges, the order depends on the designer's intuition and experiences. It may be stated that this study should be useful for determining the reasonable prestressing order of tendons for the PSC box girder bridges.

Bearing stress near anchor plates is usually very high due to prestressing force in anchorage zone of concrete structure used post-tensioned prestressed method. In order to effective utilization of cross section and crack control, appropriate size of anchorage plates should be used to prevent crack initiation and failure of concrete structures eventually. This study aims to suggest equation for effective area of bearing plate of rectangle type and circular type by Highway Bridge Design Specification and PTI etc. A shape factor according to bearing plate shape is suggested based on numerical analysis, and it can be used suitability for design of special anchorage plate dimension.

In this study, the static load test and the load transfer test were carried out to evaluate the structural performance of the circular anchorage proposed by the previous study. Specimens were fabricated according to KCI-PS101 and ETAG 013. As a result of the static load test, it was verified that the displacement of the wedge and the strand was kept constant when the tensile force of 80% of the nominal strength of the strand was applied. In the load transfer test, it was confirmed that all the specimens satisfied the stabilization formula of KCI-PS101 and ETAG 013. Post-tensioned one-way slab with circular anchorage were fabricated to evaluate the flexural behavior. All specimens exhibited the same flexural behavior and maximum load. However, the specimen with circular anchorage were advantageous than the rectangular anchorage one in terms of crack control of the anchorage zone.
