  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for reconstructing middle school morality textbooks by analyzing the character traits introduced in the middle school Morality 1 course textbook according to the content and achievement standards. The study method was analyzed according to the analysis framework. The conclusion is as follows. First, in a case study of Kyohaksa, a total of 83 people were introduced, and in the case of MiraeeN, 65 people were introduced. Second, in the case of sincerity by core value, 50 students, 60.2%, future 29, 44.6%, consideration 22, 26.5%, future 29, 44.6%, justice 11 students, 13.3%, 7 in the future, 10.8%. Third, in the content and core values of Kyohaksa, there were concepts of morality that were not included: citizenship, social justice, understanding of North Korea, or a consciousness of unification ethics. Fourth, there are contents that are not covered in the content system and achievement standards in the textbook.

  • The PATROL instructional model only uses digital textbooks. PATROL is an acronym for Planning, Action, Tracking, Recommending, Ordering, and Leading. Teachers have a difficult time using current digital textbooks to determine how much time students spend using course materials. This is because current digital textbooks can only show the content of paper textbooks and display additional multimedia materials. In this study, digital textbook functions were designed based on the PATROL model in order to analyze students' learning situations, diagnose problems, and offer solutions. Digital textbook are based on learning analytics named SEE-PAD. SEE-PAD is composed of the following: Social network analysis; Evaluation and assEssment analysis; Predictive analysis; Adaptive learning analysis; and the analysis Dashboard. I drew and showed the use case and sequence diagrams of SEE-PAD to help design digital textbook functions.

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to analyse the content of health-textbooks in elementary school in order to offer the basic data required for development or revision of health-textbook for elementary school. Methods: This study was methodological study of the content of health-textbooks. The study sample consisted of 10 health-textbooks of elementary school which were edited in 2009~2010. The components of contents divides into holistic analysis and specific areas. Results: One textbook was no introductory remarks and 2 textbooks were no preface. The health-textbooks consisted of 7 areas and were comprehensive for school education. The proportion of each was different in 10 textbooks. Sexuality and health was accounted for the largest portion of the seven areas in both the fifth and sixth grade. However, given that the mortality rate for the child's safety accidents is higher than in developed countries, the proportion of accident prevention and first aid can be relatively weak area. Conclusion: It is essential that health-textbooks empower schoolers to make healthy decisions through the promotion of useful life skills that provide a more integrated concept of health. Therefore, there is a need for approaches to health textbook to integrate more values of health.

  • This study investigated the effects of problem-solving competency of students when they studied with digital textbook contents and digital inking in collaborative learning. The experimental group solved the math problems using basic digital textbook contents and digital inking while the control group solved the math problems using basic digital textbook contents alone. The result of analysis and comparison is as follows, the experimental group with basic digital textbook contents and digital inking showed more improved problem-solving competency than that of the control group with basic digital textbook contents alone, the experimental group showed recorded a higher satisfactory level than that of the control group.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a direction for developing the Korean language textbooks for the purpose of mission. For this, three kinds of Korean language textbooks published were analyzed and evaluated. Based on the results of the analysis, this study showed to which direction the Korean language textbooks for mission should be developed. They were as follows. Frist, the balance of everyday language and bible language is important. Second, the differentiated textbooks should be published according to the different patterns of learners. Third, professionals in Korean language education and in Christian education should cooperate in the textbook development. Fourth, the professionalism for textbook development should be enhanced. Fifth, textbook development should be closely connected with teacher education.

A Comparative Study on the Various Perspectives on the Nature of Science through Textbook Analysis Centering on the Consensus View, Features of Science, and Family Resemblance Approach (교과서 분석을 통한 과학의 본성에 대한 여러 관점의 비교 -전통적 접근, 과학의 특성, 가족 유사성 관점을 중심으로-)

  • This study intends to delineate the characteristics of various perspectives on the nature of science (NOS) through the textbook analysis. Thus, centering on a science textbook called Science Laboratory Experiments, this study analyzes the elements of the NOS from three different perspectives: the consensus view, features of science (FOS), and family resemblance approach (FRA). While the consensus view highlights the similar elements of the NOS across the topics, the FOS is concerned about empirical ways for doing science. The FRA rather focuses on socio-cultural aspects of science activities. While the consensus view is useful to reify the features of the NOS, the FRA helps to understand science from various viewpoints. Regarding the philosophical account for three perspectives, all of them are ambiguous to some extent. The consensus view holds contradictory dispositions e.g., relativism vs. (post-)positivism, and critical realism and instrumentalism. The FOS supports empirical tradition but cannot effectively cope with the anomalous situation. The FRA is useful to show up the ways of science in both microscopic (personal) and macroscopic (social) viewpoints. However, the broader concept about science may mislead understanding of the NOS. Consequently, this study provides some implication for improving the framework of the NOS and teaching the NOS in the classroom.

  • One of the issues with the textbooks pertinent to the current study is whether or not the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) factors have been dealt to satisfy students with different aptitudes in learning the core objectives of the lessons. This study develops a modified version of the UDL analysis criteria from the cross curricular criteria to language teaching and learning and uses it to analyze the sequence of digital English textbooks to investigate the descriptive statistics of the UDL factors in the new textbooks. The result shows that the textbook is designed most favorably to the students with the talent of linguistic aptitude and less favorably to the students with other types of aptitudes. The sequence analysis shows that sentence/word length and appearance of new words are incrementally sequenced as students advance upper grades. However, the syntactic complexity of middle school curves up steeply which is different from the elementary school textbooks. The UDL analysis will provide learning factors to consider when designing digital English textbooks to cover different aptitudinal groups.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze recent research trends of mathematics textbooks to provide implications for textbook research and development. For this purpose, 90 out of 1121 research papers published between 2006 and 2011 in seven prestigious domestic journals were selected. The papers dealing with only Korean mathematics textbooks were analyzed by school levels (i.e., elementary or secondary), mathematics content areas, analytic methods, and implications. The papers comparing our mathematics textbooks with foreign counterparts were analyzed by reasons for the comparison, school levels, subjects for analysis, and implications. The results of this study urge us to pay more attention to secondary mathematics textbooks, least studied content areas, and various but inconsistent analytic methods. This paper also suggests close connections between textbook analysis and textbook development.

  • In this research, we reconstructed the textbook on the concept of rate and ratio, which is based on the review on the previous researches and the analysis on the elementary textbook of the 7th mathematics curriculum. We conducted the teaching experiment using the reconstructed textbook, which is to identify the students' conception of rate and ratio and the appropriateness and limit of the reconstructed textbook. As the results of this study, we identify that the changed sequence of instruction (that is, ratio ${\rightarrow}$ percent and value of rate ${\rightarrow}$ rate) was very proper to help students understand the concept of rate and ratio. The relative comparison and absolute comparison and the additive thinking and multiplicative thinking included in the reconstructed textbook were identified very helpful to students' understanding. Meanwhile some contexts given in the reconstructed textbook were identified to cause the students' cognitive confusions.
