Soil microbial community has been changed after the treatment of anaerobic fermentation using wheat bran or rice bran was applied to the soil. In the dilution plate technique, the number of anaerobic bacteria and fungi was higher in rice bran-treated soil than in non and wheat bran-treated soil, but of yeast was higher in wheat bran-treated soil than in non and rice bran-treated soil. Specially, the fungi were not detected in the wheat bran-treated soil. Identified by 16S rDNA sequencing, the number of aerobic bacteria was similar in all treatments, the dominant bacteria was the genus Bacillus. In the phospholipid fatty acid (PLFA) technique, both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria change slightly in all treatments for 20 days of fermentation process but, after 20day, increased rapidly in wheat or rice bran-treated soil. In conclusion, the microbial communities structure was dramatically changed after the treatment of wheat or rice bran to soil.
Three microorganisms and one chemical preservative were tested for their effects on the fermentation and aerobic stability of whole-crop wheat, sorghum and maize silages. Wheat at the early dough stage, sorghum at the late milk stage and maize at the one-third milk line stage were harvested and ensiled in 1.5-l anaerobic jars untreated or after the following treatments: control (no additives); Lactobacillus plantarum (LP) at $1.0{\times}10^6$ colony-forming units (CFU)/g of fresh forage; L. buchneri (LB) at $1.0{\times}10^6$ CFU/g; Propionibacterium acidipropionici (PA) at $1.0{\times}10^6$ CFU/g; and a formic acid-based preservative (FAP) at 3 ml/kg of fresh forage weight. Three jars per treatment were sampled on d 90 after ensiling, for chemical and microbiological analysis. At the end of the ensiling period, 90 d, the silages were subjected to an aerobic stability test lasting 5 d. In this test, $CO_2$ produced during aerobic exposure was measured along with chemical and microbiological parameters which serve as spoilage indicators. The silages inoculated with LP had higher concentration of lactic acid compared with the controls and the other treated silages (p<0.05). The controls and LP-inoculated silages spoiled upon aerobic exposure faster than LB, PA and FAP-treated silages. The controls and LP-inoculated silages spoiled upon aerobic exposure faster than LB, PA and FAP-treated silages due to more $CO_2$ production (p<0.05) in these two groups and development of yeasts unlike the other groups. In the experiment, the silages treated with LB, PA and FAP were stable under aerobic conditions. However, the numbers of yeasts was higher in the LP-inoculated wheat, sorghum and maize silages compared with the LB, PA and FAP-treated silages. The LB, PA and FAP improved the aerobic stability of the silages by causing more extensive heterolactic fermentation that resulted in the silages with high levels of acetic and propionic acid. The use of LB, PA and FAP as silage additives can improve the aerobic stability of whole-crop wheat, sorghum and maize silages by inhibition of yeast activity.
Since Korean government imposed a stricter regulation on effluent T-N and T-P concentrations from wastewater treatment plant, a new process has to be developed to meet these rules and this process should remove T-N and T-P, economically, from weak wastewater that is typical for Korea's combined sewer system sewage. In this study, a computer simulator, BioWin from EnviroSim, Inc. was used. Three processes - A2/O, Modified Johannesburg, UCT- had been simulated under same operational conditions and a new process - Parallel BNR Process - had been developed based on these simulation results. The Parallel BNR process consists of two rows of reactors: One row has anaerobic and aerobic reactors in series, and the other row has RAS anoxic1 and RAS anoxic2 reactors in series. In order to ensure anaerobic state in anaerobic tank, a part of influent is fed to RAS anoxic1 tank in second row. This process had been simulated under same conditions of other three processes and the simulation results were compared. The results showed that three existing processes could not perform biological phosphorus removal when the average influent was fed at any operation temperatures. However, the Parallel BNR process was found that biological phosphorus removal could be performed when both design and average influent were fed at any operation temperatures. This process showed the T-N concentration in effluent had a maximum value of 15mg/L when design influent was fed at $13^{\circ}C$ and a minimum value of 14mg/L when average influent was fed at $20^{\circ}C$. Also, T-P concentrations had a maximum value of 1.3mg/L when average influent was fed at $20^{\circ}C$ and a minimum value of 1.1mg/L when design influent was fed at $13^{\circ}C$. Based on these results, we found that this process can remove nitrogen and phosphorus biologically under any operational conditions.

The current processer of the textile wastewater treatment are mostly consisted of a combination of a physico-chemical and a biological treatment. The overall efficiency of these processes is, however, assessed to be fairly low. It is even worse during the summer season when temperature of the wastewater rises above 40$\circ $C. Therefore, a feasible process of the textile wastewater treatment which can work efficiently at higher temperatures was investigated in this work. We used a bench scale reactor consisted of one 4 liter anaerobic and one 8 liter aerobic tank, and the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders, Pasteruella hemolytica KMG1 and Pseudomonas sp. KMG6 that had been isolated in our laboratory. In the preliminary flask experiments, we observed that the thermophilic symbiotic PVA degraders could not grow in the wastewater substrate. Then, we isolated the mutant strains by acclimating the KMG1and KMG6 strains to the wastewater medium. The mutant symbionts (KMG1-1 and KMG6-1) were isolated through 6 times successive transfers into the fresh wastewater medium after 5 days culture for each. The mutant strains obtained grew well in the mixed medium composed of 75% wastewater and 25% synthetic medium, and supplemented with 0.5% PVA as a sole carbon source. During the culture for 14 days at pH 7.0 and 40$\CIRC $C, the bacteria assimilated about 89% of the added PVA. The symbionts degraded equally well all the PVA substrates of different molecular weight (nd=500~30000). In contrast to the flask experiments, in the reactor system the mutant strains showed very low levels of the PVA and COD removal rates. However, the new reactor system with an additional aerobic tank attained 82% removal rate of COD, 94% of PVA degradation and 71% of color index under the conditions of 5% inoculm on the tank 2, incubation temperature of 40$\circ $C, dissolved oxygen level of 2~3 mg/l and retention time of 30 hours. This result ensures that the process described above could be an efficient and feasible treatment for the PVA contained textile wastewater at higher temperatures.
Tn order to be helpful to control dispersed microorganisms for stabLlization of wastewater treatment in a paper-makillg process, dominant strains were isolated aerobically and anaerobically. and identified and physiological characteristics were also analyzed. Pseudomonas carboxydohydrogena, Cardiobacten'm hominis, lvIicrococcus lylae, XanfomonCls campestris p" juglandis, Micrococcus diversus, and Comamonas terrigencl as aerobic dominants, and Streptococcus bovis and Prevotella buccae as anaerobIc dominants were identified fi'om the supernatent of the primary settling tank. It seemed that microflora in the treatment process would consist of many kinds of microorganisms, whose dominant would change easily according to environmental conditions, They all grew well at $37^{\circ}C$ and at different initial medium pH's. Especially, some of them required sulfate ion for their growth, which came from a chemical coagulant of aluminium sulfate in the primary settling tank. Interestingly. many anaerobes grew well even in the aerobic wastewater treatment process and seemed to have some functions. Population of anaerobes increased three times in the supematant of primary settling tank and ten times in Lhe bottom sludge of primary settling tank than in the prime wastewater. Therefore, these anaerobes contributed to the producH tion of offensive gases, which would make some microorganisms not precLpitate and be buoyant.

This study was designed to investigate the effects of Kyungohkgo to improve aerobic capacity and eliminate exercise-induced fatigue in high school soccer players. Twenty four subjects were participated and randomly assigned into two groups [KG, Kyungohkgo group (n=12); PG, Placebo control group (n=12)]. Two groups were completed treadmill exercise protocol using graded exercise test at before and after experimental treatment of 4 weeks. The $VO_2$max and endurance time were measured by gas analysis and heart rate (HR) was measured by polar system at pre, post 0, post 5, post 15, post 30 and post 60 minutes. Blood samples were collected to analyze blood components. 1. The $VO_2$max was significant increased in the group of after intake Kyungohkgo compared to the group of after intake placebo (p<.05). 2. The HR was significant decreased in the group of after intake Kyungohkgo compared to the group of after intake placebo during recovery time at post 5 mins(p<.05), 30 mins(p<.01), 60 mins(p<.01). 3. Weight, body mass index, percent body fat, anaerobic threshold, endurance time, blood lactate concentrate, lactate dyhydrogenase, creatine kinase, serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, serum glutamic pyruvic transaminase, other energy sources(total-cholesterol, triglyceride, high density lipoprotein-cholesterol, low density lipoprotein-cholesterol, creatinine) and electrolyte (Na, K, Cl) were shown no significant differences between groups. These results suggested that Kyungohkgo can be used as ergogenic aids to improve aerobic capacity and eliminate exercise-induced fatigue.

The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of oriental herbal drink to improve aerobic capacity in elite endurance runners. 14 male elite college runners were participated and divided into two group; i ) oriental herbal drink group (OG), ii ) placebo group (PG). All subjects were completed treadmill exercise protocol using GXT at before (B) and after (A) experimental treatment of one week. The V02max, anaerobic threshold (AT) were measured by gas analysis and heart rate (HR) were measure by polar system at pre, max, post, post 30 min and post 60 min. Blood samples were collected to analyze blood components. The V02max were significantly increased in OGA compared to OGB whereas the V02max and AT in OGA were significantly higher than PGA. The blood lactate concentration were shown higher decrease rate in OGA compared to Doth OGB and PGA during recovery whereas LDH and Na were significantly increased in OGA compared to both OGB and PGA. The blood concentrations of CI and K were significantly increased in OGA compared to PGA. There were no significant differences were founded in WBC, RBC, Hct, Hb and other components associated with energy sources(glucose, TG, TC, HDL, LDL, creatinine, CPK). These results suggested that this oriental herbal drink can be administrated to improve aerobic capacity in long distance runners.
The hybrid constructed wetland(HCW) as tertiary treatment process of a bio industrial wastewater treatment plant was employed to estimate applications for the reuse of final effluent. Raw wastewater was sequently treated through chemical and biological treatment processes and the biologically treated water was flowed into the HCW. The HCW system was composed of two constructed wetlands connected in series; The one is the aerobic constructed wetland with natural air draft system whose driving force for air supply was the difference between the temperature of the air inside the wetland and the ambient air, and the other is the anaerobic/anoxic constructed wetland. Average influent concentrations of BOD, SS, T-N and T-P in the HCW were 53mg/L, 48mg/L, 34mg/L and 3mg/L, respectively. After being treated at HCW, final effluent concentrations of BOD, SS, T-N and T-P were 2.3mg/L, 1.2mg/L, 7.95mg/L and 0.83mg/L, respectively. Referring to a reuse standard for a sewage wastewater, final effluent could sufficiently be reuse as landscaping, washing or agriculture water. HCW system with the aerobic/anaerobic combined constructed wetland could be achieved a high removal efficiency because each constructed wetland was functionalized to be removed efficiently organics, nitrogen and phosphorus. HCW system could be estimated to be successful application as tertiary treatment process of a various industrial and municipal wastewater.
The objective of this study was to make a SBR+MBR complex process to evaluate the possible use of the advanced water treatment system for ships (SBR+MBR complex process) in accordance with the amendments MAPOL 73/78 that went into effect. The conditions 1 and 2 did not show the quick reduction in anaerobic condition while in the precipitation and stirring stages of the SBR treatment which was determined to be ineffective denitrification, same as with the ORP. Removal of organic matters such as $BOD_5$ and $COD_{Cr}$ in the SBR treatment was observed to happen smoothly and going through the MBR treatment as well would provide a stable water quality. However, the results were not satisfactory in accordance with $BOD_5$ 25 mg/L and $COD_{Cr}$ 125 mg/L. Thus, the operating conditions improvement is deemed necessary. Likewise for the nutrients (T-N and T-P), the nitrification in bioreactor, denitrification and phosphorus absorption in aerobic tank due to phosphorus release in anaerobic tank had not been proceeded effectively. It was concluded that the improved operating conditions and structural changes would provide more effective treatments since the removal rates of T-N and T-P were less than 70% and 80%, respectively, which were standards specified by the MEPC. 227(64).
Therapeutic use of antibiotics in the pulpal disease should reduce the clinical symptoms and pathogenic microflora in the pulp. The purpose of this study was focused on local drug delivery into the root canal in endodontic therapy. Monolithic films from polycaprolactone and polyethylene glycol preparations with minocycline were prepared, and then the antimicrobial effect of these films on necrotic canal was tested. A total 17 necrotized pulp teeth were sampled before and 1 week after insertion of film into the pulp. Bacterial culture were performed with anaerobical condition and seeded in the 5 selective and non - selective media for 7 days in $37^{\circ}C$ of anaerobic chamber. Bacterial identification were performed with Gram staining, biochemical test, and API kit There was significantly decreased of anaerobic and aerobic microflora of 13 among 17 patients after therapy. Among the identified microflora, Streptococcus species, black - pigmented species and Fusobacterium species were significantly reduced 1 week after treatment with local delivery antibiotics. Furthermore, clinical symptoms included in pain and local swelling were continuousely reduced after therapy. These results suggest that local drug delivery with minocycline is effeicient to treat the endodontic involved teeth for releasing clinical symptoms and microbiological shifting.
