  • The importance of information media in personal lives has increased rapidly, indicating the average ages of users are becoming younger. School-age children, despite the inconsequential differences, are reported to have used the internet for their free time, information search, communications, and education. Recent researches are focused on various variables affecting internet-addictions since these problems have become a major issue in education due to prolonged use of the internet or mobile. The regulations as a preventative measure and the setting of standard are also considered as major issues of research. In terms of policy, there should be revisions on laws and regulations about the internet and mobile in order to protect school-age children from vicious environments. For the education's part, there should be appropriate amount of education, for children and their parents, on how to use computers and the internet properly and how to prevent internet-addiction.

  • This study investigated pre-service elementary school teacher's perception of science curriculum use in Korea and Japan. Ninety four pre-service elementary teachers in Korea and fifty three pre-service elementary teachers in Japan are participated in this study. As the result, four patterns were revealed. First, science isn't perceived as an important or interesting subject by the pre-service elementary teachers in both countries. Second, the perception of Korean pre-service teachers about the objectives of science subject is relatively negative. Third, in the case of Korea, the perception about the effectiveness of science subject content and level, and the amount of learning is shown to be more negative than those of Japan. Finally, in both countries, the science majors and the non-science majors have negative perceptions about the inclusion of the perspectives and methods of assessment and the preparation of teaching and learning plan in curriculum.

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study was to develop communication strategies for effective nutrition education targeting pregnant women and to create nutrition education contents. Methods: The format and the contents of online resources on nutrition information for pregnant women provided by reliable institutions were analyzed. Possible solutions to overcome barriers of nutrition education as well as communication strategies for effective nutrition education were identified by a brainstorming process. Based on the communication strategies, contents for nutrition education were created. Understandability, level of interest, applicability to daily life, harmony of text and illustration, and overall satisfaction of the contents were evaluated by dietitians and pregnant women. Results: The four communication strategies were developed; (1) to focus on a few important messages, (2) to provide evidence-based information, (3) to create illustrations or infographics with a minimum amount of text, and (4) to provide tips on how to improve the current diet options. Based on these strategies, the contents were focused on three important nutrients for pregnant women, folate, iron, and calcium. The percentages of the recommended nutrient intakes of the three nutrients on selected menu and its improved version by adding a dish or changing a dish into another dish were calculated and provided. Finally, the contents were delivered as illustrations with a minimum amount of text. Overall, dietitians and pregnant women were satisfied with the contents. Conclusions: The contents developed in this study can be used in a pamphlet or a pregnancy diary, or can be shared in social networking services. Further contents on other nutrients and various menu are expected to be developed using these communication strategies.

  • The purpose of this article is to provide a method of losing weight and early managing risky factors of geriatric diseases by having male and female obese middle school students' participate in behavioral modification and aerobic exercise, foster their own desirable behavioral habit and confidence in solving obesity and continue their living pattern all their life. In order to do this, 64, subjects over 20% obese degree obtained using the standard weight, belonging within 50% range of weight percentage per height(male:32, female:32) were grouped to 4 categories of aerobic exercise therapy, behavioral modification therapy, both therapies combinedly applied and control ones by 8 male and female students allocated to each group respectively, and they were practiced to each program for 12 weeks, and the findings between group were obtained as follows. 1. The male and female middle school students' cholesterol amount of blood fat reduced most in the combinedly performed group of aerobic exercise and behavioral modification therapy. It indicated a statistically significant difference between groups (F(3,56) =9.50, p=.000) and the measurements according to the application period of program as well (F(3,168)=554.94, p=.000). The cholesterol amount per measurement period reduced most between 8 and 12 weeks. 2. The male and female middle school students' high density fat amount increased most in the combinedly performed group of aerobic exercise therapy and behavioral therapy, its descending order of next highest rate was aerobic exercise therapy, behavioral modification therapy and control group. It indicated a statistically significant difference between the distinction of male and female sexes (F(1.56)=13.82. p=.000) and the measurements according to the application period of program (F(3,168) =55.58, p=.000). The high density fatty Quality per measurement period increased most between 8 and 12 weeks. 3. The male and female middle school students' low density fat amount reduced most in the combinedly performed group of aerobic exercise therapy and behavioral modification therapy. It indicated a statistically significant difference between groups (F(3,56)=17.35, p=.000) and the measurements according to the application period of program (F(3,168)=891.14, p=.000. The low density fat amount reduced most between 8 and 12 weeks. 4. The male and female middle school students' neutral fat amount reduced most in the combinedly performed group of aerobic exercise therapy and behavioral modification therapy. It indicated a statistically significant difference between the distinction of sexes (F(1,56)=9.54, p=.003) and groups (F(3,56) =25.57, p=.000) and the measurements according to the application period of program (F(3,168) =566.03, p=.000). The male students indicated the most reduction between 4 and 8 weeks. while the female students between 8 and 12 weeks.

  • Objectives: The public relies on the news media to understand health risks. To examine the surveillance function of Korean health journalism, this study compared the rank-order of the 10 most frequently diagnosed cancers with that of the 10 cancers most frequently covered by three major Korean newspapers. Methods: News stories published between 1999 and 2010 by the Chosun-Ilbo, Joong-Ang-Ilbo, and Dong-A-Ilbo were examined. Data on cancer incidence were collected using the epidemiological data published by a governmental public health institution. To compare the level of the crude rates and the amount of news coverage, rank-order correlation tests and regression analyses were employed. Results: A reduction in the rank-ordered correlation coefficient was observed despite an increase in the overall number of cancer news stories released. The significance of the correlation disappeared after 2006. The big difference of the rank order between the crude rate and the amount of news coverage was observed in the cancer of breast, uteri, thyroid, and gallbladder/biliary. Finally, the three newspapers did not follow the amount change in stomach, lung, liver, and uterine cervix cancer. The four cancers' rank orders of crude rate were lowering, signifying a reduction of the comparative dangerousness of the four cancers. Conclusions: The news media's customization of news content and the negative bias in journalism are suggested as possible influences on the news media's inaccurate representation of cancer risk.

  • This study investigated the purpose of internet usage among high-school seniors and how their psychological, behavioral, and interpersonal adjustment levels were affected by the amount of lime spent on the internet. The subjects were 572 high-school seniors who participated in the first panel of Korean Education Empolyment Panel (KEEP). The participants were divided into 2 groups: low use group using the internet for less than 30 minutes a day and high un group using the internet for more than 3 hours a day. The adjustment levels of these two groups were compared. The findings were as follows. First, the high use group used the internet to enjoy games, whereas the low use group used the internet to seek schoolwork-related information. Second, the high use group had more negative self-concepts and experienced more stress regarding economic hardship than the low use group. Finally, the high use group watched T.V. longer, studied less, and had more experiences of deviant behaviors, such as bullying, smoking, drinking, and sexual relations.

  • Mathematical Problem solving has been the focus of a considerable amount of research over past 30 years. But nowadays problem solving is being beginning to be of less interest to mathematics education researchers. Moreover, mathematics teachers have an urgent need to be provided with well-documented informations about "teaching of(expecially, via) problem solving" though following research issues :ⅰ) the role of the teacher in a problem-centered classroom, ⅱ) what actually takes place in problem-centered classrooms, and iii) groups and whole classes' problem solving rather than individuals. This paper intends to give some informations about practice of teaching mathematical problem solving in elementary school.ry school.
