ErCo2 Laves 화합물에서의 수소유기 비정질화에 관한 속도론적 연구 (A Kinetic Study on the Hydrogen-induced Amorphization in ErCo2 Laves Compound)

  • The kinetic studies of the hydrogen induced amorphization in $ErCo_2$ Laves phase is observed by the internal standard method using X-ray diffraction intensities. The activation energy and rate constant exponent for the amorphization in $ErCo_2$ are found to be 26 kcal/mole and 0.78, respectively. From these results, it is believed that the mechanism of the hydrogen induced amorphization in $ErCo_2$ is related to the motion of Co atoms. Though there are many similar physical properties between $ErCo_2$ and $ErNi_2$, the activation energy for the amorphizatin in $ErCo_2$ is larger than that in $ErNi_2$ and the amorphization rate in $ErCo_2$ is slower. It is suggested that these differences of activation energy for the hydrogen induced amorphization and the amorphization rate between $ErCo_2$ and $ErNi_2$ is due to the occurence of structural change on forming crystalline hydride.

  • Mechanical alloying (MA) by high energy ball mill of Pure chromium Powders was carried out under the nitrogen gas atmosphere. Cr-N amorphous alloy powders have been produced through the solid-gas reaction subjected to MA. The atomic structure during amorphization process was observed by X-ray and neutron diffractions. An advantage of the neutron diffraction technique allows us to observe the local atomic structure surrounding a nitrogen atom. The coordination number of metal atoms around a N atom turns out to be 5.5 atoms. This implies that a nitrogen atom is located at both of centers of the tetrahedron and octahedron formed by metal atoms to stabilize an amorphous Cr-N structure. Also, we have revealed that a Cr-N amorphous alloy may produced from a mixture of pure Cr and Cr nitrides powders by solid-solid reaction during mechanical alloying.

  • 본 연구에서는 기계적 합금화(MA)에 의한 고상-기상반응에 있어서 질소원자가 V-Fe계 합금의 비정질화에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 유성형 볼밀을 사용하여 $V_{70}Fe_{30}$혼합분말을 질소가스 분위기 중 MA 처리하였다. 그 결과 160시간 MA 처리에 의하여 비정질상이 생성됨을 알 수 있었다. 160시간 동안 MA 처리한 ($V_{70}Fe$_{30}$)_{0.89}N_{0.11}$ 분말시료의 열분석 결과 약 $600^{\circ}C$에 비정질상의 결정화에 의한 발열 peak가 관찰되었다. 또한 bcc 결정에서 비정질상으로의 구조변화 과정을 X선 및 중성자 회절법을 통하여 조사하였으며, 특히 중성자회절에서는 V원자의 중성자에 대한 간섭성 핵산란진폭이 매우 작은 특징을 이용하였다. 그 결과, 이 합금계에서의 비정질화는 모든 결정구조에서 전형적으로 존재하는 8면체 unit가 우선적으로 붕괴되어 4면체 unit로 변환되어 가는 과정임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 중성자 회절에 의한 구조해석 결과 질소원자는 V원자로 이루어진 다면체의 중심에 위치하고 있음을 알 수 있었다.

비고용 V-Cu계 MA합금의 중성자 및 X선 회절에 의한 상분석 (Phase Analysis of Immiscible V-Cu MA Powders by Neutron and X-ray Diffraction)

  • The mechanical alloying (MA) effect in immiscible V-Cu system with positive heat of mixing was studied by not only the neutron and X-ray diffraction but also the analysis of DSC spectra. The total energy, ΔHt accumulated during MA for the mixture of $V_{50}$ $Cu_{50}$ / powders increased with milling time and approached the saturation value of 14 kJ/mol after 120 h of milling. It can be seen that the free energy difference between the amorphous phase and the pure V and Cu powders with an atomic ratio 5:5 is estimated to be 11 kJ/mol by Miedema et al. This is thermodynamically taken as one of the evidences for the amorphization. The structural changes of V-Cu MA powders were characterized by the X-ray diffraction and neutron diffraction. We take a full advantage of a negligibly small scattering length of the V atom in the neutron diffraction measurement. The neutron diffraction data definitely indicate that the amorphization proceeds gradually but incompletely even after 120 h of MA and bcc-Cu Bragg peaks appears after 60 h of MA.

  • 3-gun 마그네트론 스퍼터 장치로 Co-Zr 다층 박막을 제작하여 저온 비정질화를 시도하였다. 박막 x-ray와 단면 투과 전자현미경 분석에 의해 지르코늄 층이 코발트의 확산에 의해 비정질화 됨과 그의 위쪽 계면의 지르코늄 비정질화 속도가 아래쪽 계면의 그것보다 두 내지 세배 빠른 것을 발견하였다. 이 현상은 스퍼터링 중의 분자 섞임으로 설명되었다.

비정질 Nd-Fe-C 자석에 미치는 Al 첨가의 영향 (The effect on small Al addition of the melt-spun Nd-Fe-C magnent)

  • For melt-spun Fe-Nd-C alloy variation of phase development and magnetic properties with the variety of small Al addition was investigated. As the amount of Al addition increased the amorphization of Fe$_{14}$/Nd$_{2}$/C or $\alpha$-Fe was retarded and the residual Fe$_{14}$/Nd$_{2}$/C or $\alpha$-Fe did not eliminated after heat treatment resulting in poor coercivities of the ribbons. The grain size of Fe$_{14}$/Nd$_{2}$/C increased with the increase of Al addition and the abnormal grain was often found out in the ribbon heat treated for more then 10 min. The enhancement of coercivity was the highest with the addition of 0.5at%Al. As the amount of Al addition increase the coercivities dropped rapidly. The highest coercivity obtained so far is 13.9kOe which about 16% higher than that(11.2kOe) obtained from the Al-free specimen.

Mechanical Alloying Effect in Immiscible Cu-Based Alloy Systems.

  • The mechanical alloying effect has been studied on the three Cu-based alloy systems with a positive heat of mixing. The extended bcc solid solution has been formed in the Cu-V system and an amorphous phase in the Cu-Ta system. However, it is round that a mixture of nanocrystalline Cu and Mo Is formed in the Cu-Mo system. The neutron diffraction has been employed at a main tool to characterize the detailed amorphization process. The formation of an amorphous phase in Cu-Ta system can be understood by assuming that the smaller Cu atoms preferentially enter into the bcc Ta lattice during ball milling.

A CLASSIFICATION OF UNIQUELY DIFFERENT TYPES OF NUCLEAR FISSION GAS BEHAVIOR

  • The behavior of fission gas in all major types of nuclear fuel has been reviewed with an emphasis on more recently discovered aspects. It is proposed that the behavior of fission gas can be classified in a number of characteristic types that occur at a high or low operating temperature, and/or at high or low fissile burnup. The crystal structure and microstructure of the various fuels are the determinant factors in the proposed classification scheme. Three types of behavior, characterized by anisotropic $\alpha$-U, high temperature metallic $\gamma$-U, and cubic ceramics, are well-known and have been extensively studied in the literature. Less widely known are two equally typical low temperature kinds: one associated with fission induced grain refinement and the other with fission induced amorphization. Grain refinement is seen in crystalline fuel irradiated to high burnup at low temperatures, whereas breakaway swelling is observed in amorphous fuel containing sufficient excess free-volume. Amorphous fuel, however, shows stable swelling if insufficient excess free-volume is available during irradiation.
