  • In this paper, the optimal decision making strategy for resource management is viewed in terms of a combined strategy of planting and producing time. A model which can be used to determine the optimal management strategy is developed, and focuses on how to design the operation of a Markov chain so as to optimize its performance. This study estimated a dynamic stochastic model to compare alternative production style and used the net present value of returns to evaluate the scenarios. The managers in this study may be able to increase economic returns by delaying produce in order to market larder, more valuable commodities.

A Study on the Effects of the District Heating as an Air Pollution Control Strategy (대기오염 방지대책으로서 지역난방의 효과분석에 관한 연구)

  • This Study shows the effect of the district heating on the $SO_2$ concentration reduction. In order to analyze the effect of the district heating, three alternatives were set up as follows; Alternative I represented present central heating system, and Alternative II and Alternative III represented district heating system of which the scale were different from. The concludions of this study are as follows; In case of the Alternative II and III, annual average $SO_2$ concentration are reduced by 9.0% and 14.6% respectively, and winter season $SO_2$ concentrations are reduced by 12.2% and 15.8% respectively, at the highest points. The average reduction rates of $SO_2$ concentration in the district heating area are about the same as the reduction rates at the highest points. Also, it was found that using the district heating system, the ground level $SO_2$ concentrations could be reduced within the area of 5 to 10 km radius.

Efficient and Cost-Reduced Glucoamylase Fed-Batch Production with Alternative Carbon Sources

  • Glucoamylase is an important industrial enzyme. Glucoamylase production by industrial Aspergillus niger strain featured with two major problems: (i) empirical substrate feeding methods deteriorating the fermentation performance; and (ii) the high raw materials cost limiting the economics of the glucoamylase product with delegated specification. In this study, we first proposed a novel three-stage varied-rate substrate feeding strategy for efficient glucoamylase production in a 5 L bioreactor using the standard feeding medium, by comparing the changing patterns of the important physiological parameters such as DO, OUR, RQ, etc., when using different substrate feeding strategies. With this strategy, the glucoamylase activity and productivity reached higher levels of 11,000 U/ml and 84.6 U/ml/h, respectively. The performance enhancement in this case was beneficial from the following results: DO and OUR could be controlled at the higher levels (30%, 43.83 mmol/l/h), while RQ was maintained at a stable/lower level of 0.60 simultaneously throughout the fed-batch phase. Based on this three-stage varied-rate substrate feeding strategy, we further evaluated the economics of using alternative carbon sources, attempting to reduce the raw materials cost. The results revealed that cornstarch hydrolysate could be considered as the best carbon source to replace the standard and expensive feeding medium. In this case, the production cost of the glucoamylase with delegated specification (5,000 U/ml) could be saved by more than 61% while the product quality be ensured simultaneously. The proposed strategy showed application potential in improving the economics of industrial glucoamylase production.

A Location Management Strategy Based on the Call Arrival Probability(CAP) in Mobile Communication (이동 통신에서 호 수신 확률에 근거한 위치 관리 기법)

  • With the increasing number of subscribers in the mobile communication, the reduction of the cell size and the increment of roaming frequency have increased the cost of location management. In order to reduce the cost of location management, we propose a new strategy of location management. In this scheme, whether the terminal executes location update or not is decided both by the call arrival probability in a new LA and by the number of location updates which are unexecuted despite that the terminal moved into a new LA. The call arrival probability is computed using the predicted information about the terminal mobility pattern. We simulated to evaluate our strategy's performance. In the high mobility prediction level, this scheme reduces the cost of location update considerably. Even though it is in the low mobility prediction level, the cost does not exceed that of IS-41 at most. This scheme also showed better performance, compared with that of AS(Alternative Strategy) which requires an overhead such as predicted information maintenance.

  • After the participatory government began, various cluster policies in explicit and tacit forms had been promoted. However, an opinion of coming up with new policy alternative different from the existing one is recently brought up for strengthening the competitiveness of industrial agglomerations. This research attempts to discuss the ways in which both a smart specialization strategy and a triple-helix innovation system approach, as an alternative approach to regional industrial policy, are theoretically associated with the existing cluster policy. Through this discussion, it highlights that post-cluster policy should be not just based on regional specificity, but also facilitated by establishing the consensus space of innovation on the bassis of voluntary cooperation among industry, academy and government. It also stresses that it is necessary to focus on nurturing a new industry by systematic and intensive investment and the diversification of industrial cluster for reinforcing competitiveness of local universities and revitalizing practical cooperation between industry and university.

  • An alternative approach to the design of application-driven fuzzy systems is proposed. A broad class of fuzzy systems applications requires a certain fuzzy partition of the input space while it demands for simple numerical quantities. For this class, a dedicated fuzzy system archictecture is presented and a design strategy is proposed. Both the single-input/single-output and multi-input/multi-output cases are considered. Numerical analysis are complete illustrating several aspects of the proposed framework.

Prevalence, Patterns of Use, and Perceived Efficacy of Alternative Therapies in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis (류마티스 관절염 환자의 대체요법에 대한 이용율, 이용행태 및 지각된 효과에 대한 연구)

  • Alternative therapy for rheumatoid arthritis has become worldwide phenomenon this decade without scientific validation. This study was undertaken to explore the prevalence, patterns of use, and perceived efficacy of alternative therapies by patients attending a rheumatology clinic. We conducted a crossectional survey of 142 RA patients with structured questionnaire at outpatient rheumatic clinic from July to August in 2001. Results of this study were summarized as follows : 1. 85.9% of subjects were woman. Mean age was 49.97years, duration of rheumatoid arthritis was 5.6years. Mean pain score was 5.29cm. 2. 74.6% of subjects perceived rheumatoid arthritis as a controllable disease. 31% of patients combined medical treatments with alternative therapies. 58.5% of patients perceived that combining medical treatments with alternative therapies is the most effective strategy in controlling disease. 3. 77.5% had used more than one alternative therapy since the diagnosis was made. The major reason of discontinuation of use was no effect for the treatment of their disease. 4. 34.5% were currently using an alternative therapies and 50.9% were going to use alternative therapies in future. 5. 42.7% reported that alternative therapies was effective and only 3.6% reported side effects. 6. The perceived effect score was 3.14cm in general expecially the physiological score 2.91cm, psychological score 4.16cm. In conclusion, our results demonstrate a high use of alternative therapies by rheumatoid arthritis patients. And the perceived effect score of physiological aspect was not higher than one of psychological aspect. Therefore it should be considered in education program for the use of alternative therapies.

The Influences of Cognitive Conflict, Situational Interest, and Learning Process Variables on Conceptual Change in Cognitive onflict Strategy with an Alternative Hypothesis (대안가설이 도입된 인지갈등 전략에서 인지갈등 및 상황흥미와 학습 과정 변인이 개념변화에 미치는 영향)

  • In this study, we investigated the influences of cognitive conflict and situational interest induced by a discrepant event and an alternative hypothesis, attention and state learning strategies on conceptual change. A preconception test was administered to 486 seventh graders. They also completed the questionnaires of cognitive response and situational interest to a discrepant event before/after presenting an alternative hypothesis. After learning the concept of density with a CAI program as conceptual change intervention, the tests of attention, state learning strategies, and conceptual understanding were administered as posttests. Analyses of the results for 197 students having misconceptions about density revealed that post-cognitive conflict was significantly higher than pre-cognitive conflict. However, there was no statistically significant difference between the test scores of pre-situational interest and post-situational interest. Pre-cognitive conflict only exerted a direct effect on post-cognitive conflict, while post-cognitive conflict exerted a direct effect and Journal of the Korean Chemical Society an indirect effect via attention on conceptual understanding. Both pre- and post-situational interests were found to influence on conceptual understanding via attention. Attention had influences positively on deep learning strategy and negatively on surface learning strategy. There was a relatively small effect of state learning strategies on conceptual understanding.

A study on the evolution of post-smartphone technologies in the 5G technology environment

  • As the smartphone market becomes saturated, an innovative device equipped with new features is expected to appear soon in mobile communications. In particular, various possibilities were raised regarding the alternative technologies that can develop post-smartphones, which are differentiated from the current smartphones, as Korea commercialized the 5G infrastructure for the first time in the world. Under these circumstances, the Korean government announced the "5G+ Strategy for Realizing Innovative Growth" in April 2019, vowing to build an innovative industrial ecosystem quickly while creating various convergence services based on the 5G infrastructure. As described above, the policy importance of the alternative technologies that will develop post-smartphones is increasing, but the theoretical study on the technology evolution of post-smartphones has not been systematically conducted until now. This study reviewed the alternative technologies that can develop post-smartphones through documentary research, and data mining analysis was performed on the research result using actual data. The policy priority was also set quantitatively for the alternative technologies of post-smartphones in order to determine the alternative post-smartphone technology that the government should focus on given the constraint of limited resources. As a results, autonomous vehicle(43.68%) was found to be most important, followed by artificial intelligence(17.4%) and Internet of Things(13.1%), among alternative technologies that could develop into the post-smartphone.
