서구 각국의 대체의료에 관한 최근동향 -미국을 중심으로- (The Recent Trends and Policy Issues on Alternative Medicine in the Western Countries: -Focusing on U.S.A.-)

  • Currently, alternative medicine is highly utilized in the western countries. The public as well as health care practitioners have been paying a considerable attention to alternative medicine. This rapid growth in alternative medicine in many western countries suggests a high degree of public dissatisfaction with the limitations of orthodox medicine and concern over the side effects of chemical drugs. There is also a widespread recognition of the growing financial, social and personal cost for orthodox medicine. In addition, there is a growing need for a less fragmented, more participative and humane approach compared with contemporary medicine. Alternative medicine, which is based on holistic approach and lead to less expensive health care, may have the potential to playa significant role in overcoming the limitations of orthodox medicne in the western country. In this context, this study explores the recent trends of research on alternative medicine in western countries, particularly U.S.A. The study can provide us with valuable information on the types, training and education, utilization, insurance coverage, and regulation of alternative medicine in the western countries, thus offer important policy implications for the improvement of the korean health care system.

간호학생의 보완대체요법에 대한 태도 연구 - Q 방법론적 접근 - (Nursing Students' Attitudes towards Complementary Alternative Therapy - Q methodological approach -)

  • This study aims to identify the types and type-specific characteristics of subjectivity on complementary alternative therapy of nursing students using Q-methodology and to provide them as basic materials for nursing education. Q-methodology provides a scientific method for identifying perception structures that exist within certain individuals or groups. Thirty C college nursing students' classified 35 selected Q-statements into 9 points standard, according to the level of agreement or disagreement by forced normal distribution. The collected data was analyzed by using a QUNAL PC program. Resultingly, the attitude of nursing students regarding complementary alternative therapy was divided into three types. Type 1 is positive recognition. The students who think the therapy contributes to maintaining and improving health, and is a way to protect human body and improve welfare by enhancing immunity. Type 2 is objective acceptance. The students who think the complementary alternative therapy is effective when it is properly used for specific constitutions in discussion with medical teams after its effects are scientifically reviewed. Type 3 is popularity consideration. The students who put focus on its popular use and regard the therapy as very useful for not only patients but also ordinary healthy people because it is based on the natural and human approach. In conclusion, proposed are studies on influence factor of nursing students' awareness about the complementary alternative therapy and reviews on the effects of the complementary alternative therapy that is applied as nursing intervention.

대체의료에 대한 한의사들의 인식도 (Attitude and Recognition of Oriental Medical Doctors on Alternative Medicine)

  • This study was carried out to examine the attitude and recognition of oriental medical doctors on alternative medicine, which is increasingly used across the country. The data were collected from 264 oriental medical doctors who were working in oriental medical clinics in Daegu City, Gyeongbuk Province, using self-administered questionnaire from 1 March to 15 April 2007. Generally, the respondents have some positive attitude and recognition on alternative medicine including knowledge, interest and usefulness, efficacy of alternative medicine. However, they have some negative view on the expense of alternative medicine. And they also thought that introducing alternative medicine in their clinics was needed for better treatment and actually about 70% of the respondents recommended or applied alternative medicine to their patients. Around 40% of the respondents did not have the chance of education on alternative medicine officially. About 60% of the respondents thought that the oriental medical school was the best institute to provide the education of alternative medicine, followed by the oriental medical doctors's association. For the development of alternative medicine, they thought that the scientific research on alternative medicine by oriental medical doctors and professionals was highly needed.

  • 이 연구는 예비 중등 교사들을 대상으로 Lakatos의 방법론에 따라서 "계절 변화의 설명"에 대한 대안 모형을 조사하였다. 조사대상은 사범대학 과학교육학부 74명이다. 조사 결과 계절 변화에 대한 예비 중등 교사들의 설명은 과학적 모형과 불일치하는 대안 모형들을 가지고 있었다. 이러한 명백한 불일치의 대안 개념은 어떤 일관성 있는 방향으로, 자신들이 가지고 있는 대안 모형의 핵심 신념을 사용한다고 가정함으로서 설명되어 진다고 우리는 주장한다. 따라서 이 연구에서는 예비 교사들의 대안 모형을 극복하기 위해서 먼저 그들이 가지고 있다고 가정할 수 있는 핵심 신념들과 가능한 근원들을 알아보는 것이다. 그러한 근원들 중에서 교과서가 예비 교사의 대안 모형의 근원을 제공할 가능성을 배제할 수는 없다.

기체에 대한 초등학생들의 개념 조사 및 대안 개념 유형 분석 (A Survey of Elementary School Students' Conceptions of Gas and an Analysis on the Type of Alternative Conceptions of Gas)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate elementary school students' conceptions of gas and analyse the type of alternative conceptions of gas which students constructed. To appreciate the conceptions formed by elementary school students on this topic, 173 sixth grade students from an elementary school located in Suwon participated in this study. Additionally, their conceptions and their alternative conceptions of gas represented by the questionnaires were analyzed. The questionnaires consisted of 11 questions related to the conception of gas. To analyze the types of alternative conceptions which presented themselves, constructed prototypes were generated by interviewing the students themselves. From our results, we suggest that sixth grade elementary school students have various conceptions of gas and tend to think that gas is weighty, and that gaseous volume decreases by pressure. However, their conceptions of gas melting in water were very low, as only about 16% of students were aware of this scientific conception. Students who did not understand precisely the conception of the nature of oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen were over 20%. The results of the interviews showed that the construction of alternative conceptions of gas was affected by various and complex causes.

오류 상황을 포함하는 논증 과제 제시를 통한 초등 과학수업의 효과 및 특징 (Effects of Scientific Argumentation on Argument Tasks with Incorrect Alternative Ideas in Elementary Science Classes)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of scientific argumentation on argument tasks with incorrect alternative ideas in elementary science classes. The subjects were 41 fourth graders of 2 classes in an elementary school. In the experimental group, argument tasks with pictures including incorrect alternative ideas were suggested in order to facilitate argumentation. Students were asked to perform argumentation with the component of claim, evidence, and reasoning. In the control group, textbook-based traditional instruction was used. The results showed that scientific argumentation activities on argument tasks with incorrect alternative ideas had positive effects on students' science achievement and science-related affective domains. The analyses of students' argumentation revealed that argument tasks with incorrect alternative ideas could facilitate students' participation and exposure of their preconceptions. It also led students to find and connect evidence to support their claims. In some cases, students had difficulty in making appropriate argumentation because of unclear experimental data and/or invalid reasoning. Educational implications were discussed.

대체의학전공 대학생의 전공만족도와 진로선택 (Major Satisfaction and Career Decision in College Students Majoring in Alternative Medicine)

  • Objectives : The aim of the study was to investigate major satisfaction, career choices and perceived career barriers in college students majoring in alternative medicine. Methods : A total of 315 college students majoring in alternative medicine in 5 universities in K city and J province completed survey questionnaires. Results : The highest proportions of students (38.4%) chose alternative medicine major because of their aptitude and interest. Students (59.0%) were satisfied in general with their majors. Regarding career direction after graduation, the highest proportions 1st of and 2nd year students answered that they haven't decided yet (33.7%). In addition, they wanted to get a job in hospitals (24.6%) and have more education (21.9%). The highest proportions of 3rd and 4th year students wanted to get a job in hospitals (31.3%) and 27.3% of them wanted to have more education. The most important criterion for choosing a career was a career aptitude (38.7%) followed by professionalism, vision, pay, and social status in both groups. Regarding perceived career barriers, the highest proportions of 1st and 2nd year students (31.6%) answered the lack of social recognition about alternative medicine while the highest proportions of 3rd and 4th year students (55.5%) answered the lack of national certifications (P<0.001). Conclusions : In general, students majoring in alternative medicine were satisfied with their majors. They wanted to get a job at a hospital and have more education. They thought that the lack of social recognition and national certification of alternative medicine would be career barriers.

초등학생들의 열과 온도에 대한 대안개념 조사 (Investigating Elementary Students에 Alternative Conceptions of Heat and Temperature)

  • In this study, the contents of elementary school science textbooks related to 'heat and temperature' are analyzed and alternative conceptions ofi"heat and temperature" among students enrolled in grades 4, 5 and 6 are investigated. 259 students were selected from a elementary school located in urban area. The relationships between students' alternative conceptions and the content of elementary science textbooks are also examined. Students' conceptions are analyzed from their answers to a paper-and-pencil test. The typical alternative conception of "heat and temperature" held by students was follows. They think that "heat" is a material and "temperature" is value of heat amount. They can't distinguish between "heat" and "temperature". Their explanation of "heat and temperature" is focused on hot or cool sensation and other observable characteristics of a material. A textbook analysis indicated that contents on "heat and temperature" were organized without the viewpoint of particle motion theory. This may be one of the causes of students' alternative conceptions.

인간 중심 대안적 과학 활동 지도가 초등학생 및 지도 교사에게 끼치는 영향 (The Effects of Human-oriented Alternative Science Activities on Elementary School Students and Their Teacher)

  • This study analyzed the effect of Human-oriented Alternative Science Activities(HASA) on a coaching teacher and the students who participated in this activity. Human-oriented alternative science activities were used in the experimental group and traditional teaching methods were used in the control group. In pretest and posttest sessions, both groups were evaluated using an academic achievement test, and an affective characteristics related science test. After the activity, questionaries regarding attitudes to science lessons were administered as well. The process of change (if any) which occurred in the science lessons of the experimental group teacher was also analyzed through the teacher's diaries. The results showed that application of HASA had a positive effect upon affective characteristics and attitudes to science classes held by the experimental group and teacher. However, the result of this study also showed that the variation between academic achievement of each group was statistically insignificant.

대안학교와 일반학교 학생들의 가정교과 인식에 관한 비교 연구 - 경기지역 중학교를 중심으로 - (A Comparative Study on Recognition of Home Economics Curriculum between Alternative and General School Students - Middle Schools in Gyeonggi Province -)

  • 본 연구는 대안학교와 일반학교 학생들의 가정교과의 운영실태 및 인식에 관한 비교연구를 위해 경기지역의 대안학교와 그 인근 지역의 일반학교를 대상으로 설문지를 조사하였고, 조사대상자는 대안학교 130명, 일반학교 241명이었다. 조사대상자들의 학교 만족도는 일반학교의 경우 '보통이다' 38.6%, 대안학교의 경우 '만족한다' 40.8%가 가장 많아 대안학교의 경우 학교 만족도가 더 높았다(p<0.001). 가정교과를 '중요한 과목'으로 인식하는지의 항목은 5점 만점에 일반학교는 3.08점, 대안학교는 3.32점으로 대안학교의 인식이 더 높았다(p<0.05). 실습 만족도와 수업 만족도도 대안학교 학생들이 더 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그런데 대안학교가 일반학교에 비하여 시청각 학습자료의 사용이 크게 적은 것으로 나타났고, 실습실 시설이 미비한 것으로 나타났다. 가정교과에 대한 흥미도에서 일반학교는 '보통이다'(36.9%), 대안학교는 '관심을 가지고 있는 편이다'(38.5%)가 가장 많았다. 가정교과에 대한 필요성에 대하여 일반학교는 67.6%, 대안학교는 79.2%로 대안학교의 경우 필요성을 더 느끼는 것으로 나타났다(p<0.05). 가정교과에 대한 흥미도의 성별차이를 살펴본 결과 '의복마련과 관리'에서만 차이가 나타났다. 일반학교 남학생의 평균 2.82점, 여학생은 3.12점으로 여학생의 흥미도가 더 높게 나타났고(p<0.05), 대안학교의 경우도 남학생 2.84점, 여학생 3.58점으로 여학생의 흥미도가 더 높은 것으로 나타났다(p<0.001). 따라서 일반학교에 비하여 대안학교에서 부족한 시청각 학습 자료의 사용을 늘이고, 미비한 실습실 시설을 확충하여 가정교과에 대한 학생들의 흥미도와 만족감을 높일 수 있도록 대안학교의 제도적인 개선이 필요하다고 사료되며, 일반학교의 경우도 가정교과의 실습시수 확보방안이 모색되어 실습만족도와 수업에 대한 흥미도를 높이기 위한 대책마련이 시급히 요구되고 있다.
