알레르기 질환 및 한방치료에 대한 일반인의 인식 조사 (A Questionnaire Analysis about the Understanding of Allergic Diseases and the Attitude toward Oriental Medical Treatment)

  • Objective : This research was carried out to find out the general understanding of allergic diseases, the frequencies of allergic diseases and the attitude toward their oriental medical treatment(OMT) among common people. Methods : A total of 360 visitors at The 2nd International Exhibition on Oriental Medicine in 2000, participated in this research. We performed this survey with 22 items on the questionnaire. Results : Respondents knew the. fact that the allergic diseases were hereditary and could be affected by the living environment. 41.8% of the respondents had a past history of allergic diseases. Among the people who had allergic diseases, 63.5% had allergic rhinitis, which was the largest portion. Among them, 52.9% had a familial history. 81.5% of respondents with allergic diseases received western medical treatment for their allergies, 16.3% received both western and oriental medical treatment and 2.2% received OMT only. Among those who were treated for allergic disease, 62.0% were unsatisfied with the low effect of the treatment. To the point of excellence of OMT, 69.7%, which was the largest portion of respondents, believed that OMT could improve their constitutions. The problem with OMT was the high price of herbal medicine and this was the problem most frequently stated, by 51.4% of respondents. There was a positive attitude towards the effect of OMT, and respondents had a preference to receive OMT in the future(p<0.01). Conclusions : These days, it is a fact that the OMT for allergic diseases has a lower proportion to that of western treatment In order to increase the role of OMT, we think, oriental medical doctors need to develop an explanatory model of improving $people^{\circ}{\phi}s$ constitutions and should lower the cost of herbal medicine.

청소년 알레르기성 질환의 복합성과 중증도가 자살 생각에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Allergy Related Disease on Suicide Ideation among Adolescents in Korea)

  • Background & Objectives: There were increasing evidence about the relationship between allergy related disease such as asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis and suicide ideation. However little was known about the concrete relatedness between severity and comorbidity of allergy related disease with suicide ideation. The objective of this study was to investigate the cases of the prevalence of suicide ideation among adolescents with allergy related disease such as asthma, atopic dermatitis and allergic rhinitis, and examine the association between allergy related disease and suicidal ideation among adolescents in South Korea. Methods: Data was based on Korean Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey(2014) which was a cross-sectional study containing 34,874 Korean middle and high school students who diagnosed with allergy related disease. We used the weights, strata and primary sampling unit information provided by the public use dataset to compute descriptive statistics and logistic regressions. Computations were done with SPSS version 20.0. Results: 19.9%, 15.6%, 13.8% of adolescents who suffered from one, two and three of allergy related diseases respectively reported having been thought of suicide ideation. Socio-demographic factors were adjusted as control variables. Students with greater severity of disease were more likely to have suicide ideation. Odds ratio for students who were absent one to three days from school because of allergies was 1.96(95% CI 1.51-2.46), and odds ratio for those who were absent more than four days from school was 3.60(95% CI 2.46-5.28). Conclusions: Given that adolescents' severity and comorbidity of allergy related disease were clearly associated with suicide ideation, suicide prevention programs for adolescents with allergy related disease should be improved by strategic approaches towards the severity and comorbidity of disease.

신라 왕경숲 조성에 있어서 주요 수종 선정에 관한 연구 (How to Choose the Species of Trees on the Afforestation Project of Shilla Dynasty′s Capital Forest)

  • This research is basic research about 「the afforestation project of the Shilla Dynasty's capital forest」 which is controlled by the research institute of forest and environment of Kyungbuk province. The results of the investigation about target places and selection of major species of trees is as follows. 1. In the Shilla Dynasty's times, the peach tree was the indicator of unusual changes in weather, and was also the symbol of unsurpassed beauty. Peach trees were so prevalent that people called the forest peach-hill or peach-forest. Therefore, the main tree of Shilla Dynasty's capital forest would have to be a peach tree. 2. From several records, pine and bamboo were planted or grown together. The pattern of planting trees like this case is also historic, so should be utilized positively. 3. In order to afforest the capital forest, the bamboos have to be planted on Nam-mountain in Kyung-ju, and maple trees have to be planted on Kumgang mountain. 4. There were many big trees during the Shilla Dynasty, and the name of one of the Six Main Villages was 'Big Tree Village'. Therefore, big and long-lived trees have to be planted also. 5. The willow tree has to be considered for afforesting the capital forest even though the willow trees are misunderstood to cause allergies. They are traditional landscape architecture trees. In the traditional literature, the willow tree stands for good news. 6. Japanese cornellian cherry(Cornus officinalis), which is related with old narrative literature in the era of King Kyungmun, has to be planted for the forest, and has to be considered to be an educational tree. 7. Korean Rhododendron, which is related with Madam Suro's story, has to be planted in stone gardens.8. Lotus, Korean pulsatilla, Boxwood, Bombycis Mulberry, and Japanese Apricot have been recorded just one time, but these are also important plants which have to be reflected on afforestation of capital forest project. 9. The forests of Shilla on the old records exist in 17 places. The afforestation project has to be undertaken at these places. 10. The people of Shilla deified the forest and trees, which were the places where ancestral rites had been performed. For example, Gyerim, Sinyurim, and Wanggasu were the sacred forests of the capital forest.

마우스에 홍삼추출물의 14일간 경구 투여에 따른 약물대사효소 조절능 평가 (Modulatory Effects of Korean Red Ginseng Extract (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) on Cytochrome P450 after Oral Administration to Mice for 14 Days)

  • 인삼 및 인삼 유래 물질들은 가장 대표적인 건강기능식품이며, 홍삼추출물(Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer)의 경우 항바이러스, 알레르기 감소, 항산화, 비만억제 등의 효과를 나타낸다고 알려져 있다. 대표적 건강기능식품임에도 불구하고 약물상호작용을 일으키는 대사효소(Cytochrome P450, CYP)에 대한 홍삼추출물의 영향은 보고되지 않았다. 본 연구에서는 사람의 간 마이크로좀 분획과 마우스 모델을 기반으로 홍삼엑기스의 약물대사 조절능을 평가하였다. 사람의 간 마이크로좀에서는 CYP2B6에 대한 미약한 억제 효과를 나타내었을 뿐, 타 대사효소 CYP1A2, 2B6, 2C19, 2D6와 3A에 대한 억제효과는 검출되지 않았다. 홍삼엑기스를 마우스에 50, 250, or 500 mg/kg의 농도로 3, 7, 14일간 하루 1회 경구 투여 후 간을 적출하여 대사효소의 활성 변화를 측정하였지만, 유의적인 변화는 관찰되지 않았다. 결과적으로 홍삼엑기스의 유의적인 약물대사효소에 대한 활성 조절능이 없는 것으로 판단되고, 홍삼엑기스 복용에 따른 홍삼-약물상호작용의 가능성은 없을 것으로 추정된다.

Body Weight at Birth and at Age Three and Respiratory Illness in Preschool Children

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine the associations of current body weight and body mass index (BMI) at age three and birth weight in developing chronic respiratory illness in childhood and identify possible interaction underlying its mechanism. Methods: The study was carried out with 422 children who were enrolled in a hospital-based birth cohort. Birth related anthropometric data were collected at birth. At age 3 years, the presence of respiratory symptoms was evaluated by using the Korean version of core questionnaire for wheezing and asthma from the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC). Physical examination was carried out to measure the child's weight and height. Results: Children in the lowest birth weight tertile (aOR = 3.97, 95% CI = 0.94-16.68) or highest BMI tertile (aOR = 3.68, 95% CI = 1.24-10.95) at three years of age were at an increased risk of chronic respiratory illness. Children who were initially in the lowest birth weight tertile but now belong in the highest weight tertile had higher risk of chronic respiratory illness compared to those who had remained in the middle tertile (OR=16.35, 95% CI=1.66-160.57). Conclusions: Children with lower birth weight or higher BMI were at an increased risk of chronic respiratory illness. In addition, children who were initially in the lowest birth weight tertile but are now in the highest weight tertile had higher risk of chronic respiratory illness compared to those who remained in the middle tertile.

아토피 피부염 환자에서 12 주간의 심층 영양관리에 따른 식사의 질과 혈중 지방산조성 및 면역지표에 관한연구 (Effects of Medical Nutrition Therapy on Dietary Quality, Plasma Fatty Acid Composition and Immune Parameters in Atopic Dermatitis Patients)

  • Atopic dennatitis (AD) is one of the major public health problem. It has been reported that the prevalence of AD in children and adults are 10-20% and 1-3%, respectively. Westernization of food habits, urbanization, and environmental pollution are contributing factors toward the recent rise in prevalence. Excessive dietary restriction leads to chronic malnutrition in atopic dermatitis patients. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of medical nutrition therapy (MNT) on quality of diet and blood immune parameters in atopic dermatitis patients. The 19 atopic dermatitis patients (7 men and 12 women) admitted to K University Medical Center were studied. During the 12 weeks of intervention, the subjects were given MNT by a dietitian for 30-45 minutes every other week. MNT was comprised with general dietary therapy, intake of balanced meals, emphasis on n-3 fatty acid contents in foods, and food allergies. Anthropometric and dietary assessment and blood analysis were taken at baseline and after 12 weeks of MNT. After 12 weeks of MNT, the subjects' dietary qualities, including dietary diversity score (DDS), meal balance score (MBS) and dietary variety score (DVS) were significantly increased (p < 0.05). According to significantly increased intake of EPA and DHA, dietary n-6/n-3 fatty acid ratio decreased to the recommended level for the atopic dermatitis patients (p < 0.05). These changes of dietary fatty acid consumption were reflected erythrocyte fatty acid composition. After 12 weeks of MNT, serum levels of IgE and IL-4 levels were significantly decreased, however, the levers of INF-$\{gamma}$, WBC, lymphocyte and TLC were not changed. As a conclusion, the individualized MNT improved the quality of diet in atopic dermatitis patients thereby influenced RBC fatty acid composition and IgE and IL-4 levels.

  • Goat milk production and processing is a dynamic and growing industry that is fundamental to the health of hundreds of millions of people worldwide and is recognized as an important contributor to many national economies. Goat milk has contributed significantly to the economic and nutritional quality of life in developing countries, particularly in the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and Latin America. Goat milk has played an important role in the health and nutrition of infants and the elderly, and is also known to be beneficial and therapeutic for people with milk allergies. The potential and value of the nutritional, health, and therapeutic effects of goat milk and specialized goat milk products are now attracting attention. Various products can be made from goat milk based on its chemical properties. In addition, special products such as hair, skin care, products, and cosmetics produced using goat milk have garnered more attention in recent years. Nevertheless, high quality products can only be made from good quality goat milk. Advanced technical treatments are necessary to produce high quality goat milk that meets consumer expectation of nutritional, hygienic, and good sensory products. Good taste has been a critical criterion when deciding to buy and consume goat milk and associated products. However, it may be possible to produce more value-added products that cater to the new trends in consumer needs and thus maintain economic sustainability of goat milk industry.

  • Allergy 질환은 지난 십여년 동안 개발도상국을 포함해서 전 세계적으로 증가하고 있다. Allergy 염증 반응은 수지상 세포와 같은 항원제시 세포에 의한 allergy 항원섭취를 시작으로 하여 Th2 면역 반응에 의해서 일어난다. 장내 미생물은 신체의 대사나 생리적 기능을 조절하고, 생애 초기의 면역 체계 성숙과 일생 동안 면역 체계 항상성 및 상피세포 총체성에 기여한다. Bifidobacteria는 Th1/Th2 balance에 strain-specific 한 면역 자극 특성을 가지며, TSLP와 IgE 발현을 억제 시키고 Flg과 FoxP3 발현을 촉진 시켜 allergy를 완화시킨다. 또한 Unmethylated CpG motif ODN은 B 세포와 수지상 세포의 TLR9에 의해 인식 되어 선천성과 적응성 면역 반응을 유도하고, Clostridium butyricum에 의해서 생산된 butyrate는 수지상 세포의 anti-inflammatory 유전자의 발현을 유도하기 위해 GPR109a signaling pathway를 활성화시키고, GPR43 활성화를 통하여 tTreg 세포 proliferation을 직접 자극하거나 HADC 활성을 억제시켜 Foxp3 gene intronic enhancer의 histone H3 acetylation을 통해 naive $CD4^+$ T 세포를 pTreg 세포로 분화시킨다.

춘천시의 조경식물의 식재와 이용 현황 (A Study on the Planting and Use of Landscaping Plants in Chuncheon)

  • This study was executed to find out how to improve the planting and use of landscaping plants in Chuncheon. The number of street trees was 17,877 in 2003. The major species of street trees were Ginkgo biloba(52.7%), Prunus sargentii(15.3%), Zelkova serrata(8.9%), Platanus occidentalis(7.3%). Salix babylonica and Platanus occidentalis were decreased, while Prunus sargentii and Zelkova serrata were increased. Salix babylonica is a good species for a lakeside city, but its seeds cause allergies to some people. Most of the trees have been removed in Chuncheon. The planting of Salix babylonica(♂) resulted in no problems, and it should be propagated to plant. The soil of several areas was analysed to investigate soil conditions. The outskirts of city had good conditions in pH, organic matter and minerals, but the downtown areas had high alkalic, due to alkali from footpath concrete blocks. Appropriate pruning adds to the aesthetic and prolongs the useful life; it also requires less managing of insects and diseases to maintain good healthy of street trees. Street trees were not properly pruned due to electric lines and shortage of pruning information. The pruning was controlled by Korea Electric Power Co, which has no pruning information. Pruning must be maintained by a professional landscape company to maintain good shape such as with Bonsai. The Shrubs planting zone between street trees and other trees, and preservation plates were established for healthy of street trees. They have to be repaired and maintained well to keep better environmental conditions. The number of tree and flower species of 68 schools in Chuncheon were 12 and 16, respectively. The species that showed high preference were Juniperus chinensis, Pinus koraiensis, Pinus densiflora, Rosa centifolia, Forsythia koreana, and Rhododendron schlippenbachii. The high frequency of the protection trees designated by Chuncheon were Pinus densiflora, Ginko biloba, Zelkova serrata, Quercus species. It was thought that the diversification of street tree species, the selection of street trees suitable to each space, the generalization of use of native species, the appropriate pruning and proper fertilization, the control of pests and diseases, and the opinions of citizens concerning landscape plants were needed to improve the planting, use and maintenance of landscaping plants in Chuncheon.

이온 크로마토그래피를 이용한 화장품 중 중금속 동시분석 (Simultaneous Determination of Heavy Metals in Cosmetic Products by Ion Chromatography)

  • 화장품 중 불순물로서 미량의 중금속이 함유되어 있는 경우 이들의 피부흡착이 알러지를 일으킬 수가 있다. 이에 중금속으로부터 안전한 화장품인지를 신속하고 정확하게 판단하는 것이 중요하여 색소원료와 화장품 중 미량의 중금속들($Pb^{2+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Cd^{2+}$$Mn^{2+}$)을 동시에 분석할 수 있는 이온크로마토그래피 분석법을 개발하였다. 8종의 중금속들은 이온교환 컬럼(IonPac CS5A)으로 잘 분리되었고, post-column 장치와 UV 분광기로 검출하였다. $0.1{\sim}1000{\mu}g/mL$ 농도범위에서 8종의 중금속들의 검량선은 선형적이었고($r^2>0.999$), 검출한계는 제품이 안전한지를 판단할 수 있는 ${\mu}g/L$ 수준이었다. 피크들의 머무름 시간과 면적의 상대표준편차는 0.21%과 0.24%이고, 회수율은 $97{\sim}104%$이다. 이 결과들은 개발된 분석방법이 화장품 중의 미량의 중금속들을 신속하고 정확하게 분석할 수 있다는 것을 보여준다. 본 분석방법은 22개 화장품과 11개 색소원료 중의 중금속들의 함량을 분석하는데 활용하였다.
