Due to emission of vehicles during loading/unloading, ventilation system in Roll-on/Roll-off ship is inevitable; however it is very difficult to predict the ventilation performance before it is finally built in. Although the requirements for the ventilation system include air change rate and maximum allowable concentration of CO in the cargo holds, even prototype tests are hardly able to quantify the ventilation performance. In the present paper, a new method to assess the ventilation performance of Roll-on/Roll-off ship is proposed by using computational fluid dynamics. The air exchange is modeled by introducing multi-species transport of existing air In the holds and new air from the ventilation system. Conservation of multi-species as well as 3D Navier-Stokes equation are solved numerically in time dependent manner. Several cases of different configuration are considered. The results include predicted mass fraction of new air in the holds. It is also presented that CO concentration can be estimated based on the predicted air change performance. Due to the lack of experimental data, the computed results are not verified; however the proposed method can be applied as au assessment tool.
This test was progressed in the test house of KICT as sectional research of Center for Sustainable Housing. It included a ventilation rate of hybrid ventilation equipment, temperature, and gas test using the SF-6. The purpose of this test is to demonstrate the performance of viovent by estimating an outdoor air flow rate through viovent which the flimmer filter is installed and decide the leakage after operating the constant airflow fan within a house. First, the outdoor airflow rate through viovent measured $130\;m^3/h$ more than a legal required ventilation rate, $104\;m^3/h$. And then it sufficiently satisfy a legal standard, 0.7 air change/h. Secondly, the result of this test exposes that the leakage in the residence is about $20{\sim}25%$. Especially, the outdoor air flowing through the gate occupies 50% of the total leakage.
The ASHRAE first ventilation standard was established in 1973. This standard has been revised regularly, and recently the ventilation standard for residential building was issued separately. Two ASHRAE ventilation standards are introduced in this article.

There has been growing concern regarding IAQ(Indoor Air Quality) recently, and IAQ problems from the air-tightness and use of chemical materials addition to the building materials have become increasingly important factors in the built environment. Ventilation is supposed as the solution of healthy indoor quality, and Korea government requests that all new apartment buildings must have a ventilation system as a matter of duty since January, 2006. The purpose of this study is to investigate the indoor concentration change of VOCs include the Formaldehyde according to many different ventilation supply types. Results showed that the reduction effect of target pollutants by the ventilation system was very slight. The cause of these results was attribute to increase the emission rate of building materials by increasing the ventilation rate.

In this study, 5 types of PVS(Passive ventilation system) units are made and experimented its ventilation performance, thermal performance according to open rate and hole diameter of perforated aluminum plane. Results are as follows. 1) The ventilation performance increases approximately 50~70% according by the open rate of PVS increasing. Also, the ventilation performance increases about 2%~12% according by the hole diameter of PVS increasing. 2) In winter temperature/pressure condition(in : $20^{\circ}C$, out : $-2^{\circ}C/{\Delta}P$ : 0.2~5.0Pa) the temperature of inflow air decreases according by the open rate of PVS increasing. Heat gain performance decreases 10.1%, 25.6% when open rate increases 3) In the same condition, Heat gain performance decreases 18.3%, 18.8% according by the hole diameter of PVS increasing.

The purpose of this study was to quantify the impact of the ventilation rate on heating and cooling energy consumption in a detached house. For it, a series of simulations for the application of the diverse ventilation rate (ACH) were computationally conducted for a prototypical detached residential building in the cold climate (Detroit, Michigan) and hot/humid climate (Miami, Florida) of USA. Analysis revealed that ventilation is a significant heat losing source in the cold climate; thus, the higher ventilation rate significantly increases the heating energy consumption and energy cost in the cold climate; while the impact on energy increase for heating and cooling energy consumption is similar in hot/humid climate with less significancy compared to cold climate. The research outcome of this study could be a fundamental data for determining the optimal ventilation rate in terms of indoor air quality, but also building energy performance well.
The objective of this paper was to show the possibility of demand-controlled ventilation (DCV) using the current Korean ventilation standard for multi-purposed facilites. Two attractive DCV approaches; $CO_2$-DCV and RFID-DCV were applied to DCV simulations for a theoretical public assembly space served by a dedicated outdoor air system (DOAS) with enthalpy recovery device. A numerical model for predicting realtime occupant number, ventilation rate, and $CO_2$ concentration under given conditions was developed using a commercial equation solver program. It was found that the current ventilation standard causes unstable ventilation system control in DCV applications, especially under $CO_2$-DCV. It is because the ventilation rate (per person) used in Korea is the sum of the outdoor air required to remove or dilute air contaminants generated by both occupant and building itself, and not a pure function of occupant numbers. Finally, it makes DCV control unstable when ventilation flow is regulated only by the number of occupants. In order for solving this problem, current Korean ventilation standard was modified as a form of ASHRAE Standard 62.1-2007 showing good applicability to various DCV approaches. It was found that this modification enhances applicability of the current ventilation standard to DCV significantly.
This paper evaluates the performance of ventilation for the removal of indoor pollutants as a function of ventilation rate and the number of occupants in a test room and school classroom. An experimental apparatus consists of a test room, a tracer gas supply system, a gas detector, and a fan for ventilation air supply with a controller. The ventilation performance is evaluated in a step-down method based on ASTM Standard E741-83 using $CO_{2}$ gas as a tracer gas in the test room of 35 $m^{3}.$ For the ventilation air flow rate of 1.0 ACH, a recommended ventilation flow rate of Korea school standard for acceptable indoor air quality in the case of one person, CO_{2}$ gas concentration decreases up to $55{\%}$ within 50 minutes without occupancy and increases up to $75{\%}$ in the case of one occupant. Also indoor air quality at the school classroom is investigated experimentally.

Indoor air quality is affected by source strength of pollutants, ventilation rate, decay rate, outdoor level, and so on. Although technologies measuring these factors exist directly, direct measurements of all factors are not always practical in most field studies. The purpose of this study was to develop an alternative method to estimate these factors by application of multiple measurements. For the total duration of 30 days, daily indoor and outdoor $NO_2$ concentrations were measured in 30 houses in Brisbane, Australia, and for 21 days in 40 houses in Seoul, Korea, respectively. Using a box model by mass balance and linear regression analysis, penetration factor (ventilation divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) and source strength factor (emission rate divided by sum of air exchange rate and deposition constant) were calculated, Sub-sequently, the ventilation and source strength were estimated. In Brisbane, the penetration factors were $0.59\pm0.14$ and they were unaffected by the presence of a gas range. During sampling period, geometric mean of natural ventilation was estimated to be $l.l0\pm1.5l$ ACH, assuming a residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.8 hr^{-1}$ in Brisbane. In Seoul, natural ventilation was $1.15\pm1.73$ ACH with residential $NO_2$ decay rate of 0.94 hr^{-1}$ Source strength of $NO_2$ in the houses with gas range $(12.7\pm9.8$ ppb/hr) were significantly higher than those in houses with an electric range $(2.8\pm2,6$ ppb/hr) in Brisbane. In Seoul, source strength in the houses with gas range were $l6.8\pm8.2$ ppb/hr. Conclusively, indoor air quality using box model by mass balance was effectively characterized.
It is common to design the duct branches where to supply the required air flow for individual room in residential apartment house. However it is difficult to adjust the air volume adequately in small air duct branches in residential ventilation system. The purpose of this study is to figure out the performance of Multidrop chamber coupling system for the residential ventilation system. The experiments were designed to simulate apartment of $84m^2$ and established multidrop chamber duct and general duct on the ceiling of the apartment. Distribution performance of air supply rate were evaluated in this experiments. As a result, distribution performance of air supply rate in the general duct is different from designed air supply rate by about 35% ~ 50% and about 10% in the multidrop chamber system. In additional the sound insulation performance of the multidrop chamber system decreased about 20% compared with general duct system. Therefore, the multidrop chamber system is considered to satisfy proper air supply rate of each room and to improve the sound insulation performance in apartment Houses.
