  • Unfilled, carbon black-filled, and silica-filled natural rubber (NR) composites were aged with a circular deformation at $60-90^{\circ}C$ and the recovery behaviors were investigated. The samples were aged under the altering aging medium systems of air and distilled water every day for 10 days. The order of the recoveries according to the filler systems was unfilled > silica > carbon black. The recoveries of the samples aged in the air to water altering system were greater than those of the samples aged in the water to air altering system. The initial aging medium dominantly influenced the deformation level.

  • In this work, we have conducted insulation aging assessment and maintenance for submarine medium voltage power cable systems to discriminate and maintain bad cables economically. We have found that aging status of submarine cable systems are very poor and in progress. We have found that insulation status were improved with the replacement of cable terminations. We have confirmed with the electrical and structural analysis of terminations, that the poor aging status of cables are mainly caused not by the cable insulations but by the aging of cable terminations. From the above results, we have also confirmed that the domestic diagnostic system is successful and convenient for the discrimination and maintenance of the damaged cables economically.

  • This paper deals with the problem of the determination of the response of a viscoelastic Bernoulli-Navier beam, which is resting on an elastic medium. Assuming uniaxial bending, the displacement of the beam axis is governed by an integro-differential equation. The compatibility of the displacements between the beam and the elastic medium is imposed through an integral equation. In general and in particular in the case of a Boussinesq medium, the solution has to be pursued numerically. On the contrary, in the case of a Winkler's medium the compatibility equation becomes a linear finite relationship, which allows finding an original analytical solution of the problem for both hereditary and aging behavior of the beam. Some numerical examples complete the paper, in which a comparison is made between the hereditary and the aging model for the creep of the beam.

  • In this study, we have investigated the potent anti-aging effect of DA-3711, a cosmetic ingredient derived from artificial skin culture. The artificial skin was originally developed as a skin replacement for the treatment of chronic skin wounds. To produce DA-3711, neonatal human fibroblasts were seeded into biocompatible collagen/chitosan/glycosaminoglycan (GAG) scaffolds and cultured in Dulbecco's modified Eagle's medium (DMEM) supplemented with fetal bovine serum and nonessential amino acids. Analysis of the culture broth (DA-3711) showed that growth factors such as VEGF, TGF-$\beta$, KGF were present at significantly higher levels that in the culture broth of fibroblasts cultured in monolayer. The biological activity of DA-3711 was assessed by measuring in vitro cell proliferation and collagen synthesis of normal human fibroblasts. Fibroblasts treated with 10% DA-3711 showed a 2-fold higher proliferation and 2 to 4-fold higher collagen synthesis than untreated cells. DA-3711 also exhibited anti-oxidative effects, since cells under peroxide-induced oxidative stress showed a 30% higher viability in DA-3711-containing medium than in medium without DA-3711 addition. The results suggest that DA-3711 may have anti-aging effects by stimulating skin regeneration and protecting against oxidative stress.

  • Titanium alloys are the one of promising candidate materials for medium high temperature parts in the aircraft, automobile, petrochemistry and electrochemistry because of their high strength with low density in medium high temperature. In this study, the effects of aging and heat treatments on the mechanical properties of Ti-15-3 alloy in medium high temperature, which was $400^{\circ}C$, were studied. Solid solution treatment was performed at $8000^{\circ}C$ of $\beta$ phase region for 1 h and the alloy was quenched in water. The alloy was aged at $5000^{\circ}C$ of $\alpha$ and $\beta$ two-phase region for 1, 2, 4, 8, ... and 100 h to increase the mechanical property. The $\beta$ single phase was observed at all parts of specimens in Ti-15-3 alloy after ST. As the aging at $500^{\circ}C$, fine precipitates of a phase was generated from matrix of $\beta$ phase and the microstructure was consisted of weaving structure such as Widmanstiitten a phase. The most suitable aging time is 24h in$ 400^{\circ}C$. At this time, strength is 1164 MPa and elongation is about 12%. In room temperature, elongation of Ti-15-3 alloy aged at $500^{\circ}C$ for 16 h is poor (=3%) in spite of high tensile strength (1458 MPa).

  • The administration of D-galactose triggers brain aging by poorly understood mechanisms. It is generally recognized that D-galactose induces oxidative stress or affects protein modifications via receptors for advanced glycated end products in a variety of species. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the involvement of astrocytes in D-galactose-induced brain aging in vitro. We found that D-galactose treatment significantly suppressed cell viability and induced cellular senescence. In addition, as of the accumulation of senescent cells, we proposed that the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP) can stimulate age-related pathologies and chemoresistance in brain. Consistently, senescent astrocytic CRT cells induced by D-galactose exhibited increases in the levels of IL-6 and IL-8 via NF-κB activation, which are major SASP components and inflammatory cytokines. Conditioned medium prepared from senescent astrocytic CRT cells significantly promoted the viability of brain tumor cells (U373-MG and N2a). Importantly, conditioned medium greatly suppressed the cytotoxicity of U373-MG cells induced by temozolomide, and reduced the protein expression levels of neuron marker neuron-specific class III β-tubulin, but markedly increased the levels of c-Myc in N2a cells. Thus, our findings demonstrated that D-galactose treatment might mimic brain aging, and that D-galactose could contribute to brain inflammation and tumor progression through inducing the accumulation of senescent-secretory astrocytes.

  • To investigate the role of myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) in the normal aging process, aging-related morphometric and ultrastructural analyses of the MAG-positive (MAG-(+)) oligodendrocytes were carried out in the cerebral cortex of the Sprague-Dawley rats. In the aged rats, the density of MAG-(+) oligodendrocytes was significantly decreased in the cortical layer (IV-VI) compared with that of the adult rats. However, the percentage of medium and dark types of oligodendrocytes was significantly increased by aging. In the aged rats, the mean nuclear area of the MAG-(-) oligodendrocytes was interestingly reduced compared with that of MAG-(+) oligodendrocytes. In addition, MAG immunoreactive products were markedly decreased in the medium-dark type of oligodendroglial cytoplasm and processes, and were scarcely localized in the dark type of oligodendrocytes of the aged rats. These results suggest that degeneration of oligodendrocytes-myelin system by aging is associated with down regulation of MAG, and that may contribute to further understanding of the biology of MAG in the oligodendrocytes-myelin system.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an aging friendly guideline aging friendly outdoor exercise environment in Universal design aspect. The aim for this guideline is to suggest a creative method to cope with forthcoming aging society and meet the various demands of all park users. Documentary survey and field survey were used to extract notion of universal design and aging friendly design; based from the extracted notions three types of exercise environment were suggested, Small scale, Medium scale and Large scale. The significant of this guideline is as fallow: First, negative aspects of aging friendly design can be eliminated by adopting universal design; therefore the guideline can have social integration aspect. Second, reflected needs of residents can be suggested on the guideline; and it was extracted from documentary survey, PPP UD checklist and field survey. Third, classifying universal design and aging friendly design in one guideline can enhance ability to manage various composition of population. Fourth, by studying young child and old people's likeness and parallel resemblance, design guideline for forthcoming aging society can be suggested. Fifth, from three developed exercise environments, the guideline can be applied into different conditions of location. Sixth, canopy type design model can be very useful for old people.
