  • Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by inattention, hyperactivity, impulsiveness and problems in other higher cognitive processes such as executive function deficits. Currently, there are many treatment modalities, of which pharmacotherapy is the most strongly supported by scientific and clinical evidence. Stimulants, which are first choice in the pharmacological treatment of ADHD, block dopamine reuptake by binding the dopamine transporter and so increasing the concentration of dopamine in synaptic clefts. Stimulants are effective in improving core ADHD symptoms, as well as the nonspecific symptoms, such as aggressiveness and oppositional behavior. Frequently reported short-term adverse effects are decreased appetite, sleep disturbance, headache, dizziness and irritability. Although questions have been raised about the long-term side effects of stimulants, including growth suppression, cardiovascular events, and abuse potential, there is no clear evidence to support these concerns.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine emotional and behavioral problems of children from broken families. The subjects of the study were 200(100girls, 100boys) 5th and 6th grade children from P city in Kyuug-gi area. The main results were as follows; First, children from broken families showed some behavior problems such as aggressiveness, anxiety, developmental disorder, absences from school, bad-habits and attention-seeking behaviors. The parenting behaviors of broken families were characterized as negative, rejective, and inconsistent behaviors. Second, emotional and behavioral problems of children from broken families varied as a function of child sex, care giver, reason of loss and parenting.

  • This study investigated to understand the styles and attitudes toward salespersons and to compare the differences of the interaction in the marketplace among the generations. 920 samples were surveyed in Chunlabuk-do and 851 samples were used for the statistical analysis. As results of this study, 1) consumers’assertiveness level was less than one’s non-assertiveness level and aggressiveness level. 2) The aggressive type was the most popular type of the interaction and the assertive type was the most unpopular type. 3) The significant differences were found in the interaction altitudes and types of it among generation and between sexes for the whole sample.4) The religion was the significant variable in the differences of the interaction type for the adolescents and the elderly.

  • Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is defined as a type of breast carcinoma that is negative for expression of oestrogene and progesterone hormone receptors (ER, PR) and HER2. This form of breast cancer is marked by its aggressiveness, low survival rate and lack of specific therapies. Recently, important molecular characteristics of TNBC have been highlighted and led to the identification of some biomarkers that could be used in diagnosis, as therapeutic targets or to assess the prognosis. In this review, we summarize recent progress in TNBC research focusing on the genetic and epigenetic alterations of TNBC and the potential use of these biomarkers in the targeted therapy for better management of TNBC.

  • Osteosarcoma is a classical malignant bone-forming neoplasm which usually presents with an aggressive clinical course. The current case is presented with the radiographic feature of widening of the periodontal ligament space of the involved teeth, which is considered to be the earliest radiographic manifestation of osteosarcoma involving the jaw bone. The main aim of this case report was to focus on the importance of early diagnosis of this tumor based on clinical and radiographic examinations, and confirmation by histopathology. Considering the rarity of the disease type and particularly taking into account the fast progression and aggressiveness of this neoplasm, it is clear that the presentation of a clinical case represents a major contribution to better understanding of osteosarcomas involving the jaw bone.

  • This study was performed to evaluate whether the loss or overexpression of Rb, and overexpression of p53 were prognostic indicators for bladder neoplasia, 52 tumor specimens from transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder were from 42 male and 10 female patients whose age ranged from 30 to 83 years old(mean age; 63,5 years old), This group included 36 superficial and 16 invasive stage bladder tumors, and grades 16-25, p53 was significantly associated with tumor stage and grade(p<0,05 in each), but not with tumor recurrence. Loss of Rb gene expression or Rb overexpression was correlated with stage, but not grade. These results suggested that changes of Rb and p53 expression might play an important role in assessing the aggressiveness of human neoplasms.

  • Understanding the fact that more spending for R&D is merely a necessity, not a factor of success, managing technological development efforts effectively and efficiently for higher R&D productivity and sustainable growth has become an important issue for contemporary firms. Based on a survey on small- and medium-sized manufacturing firms, this paper explores the relationships of leadership positions, technological contents and acquisition methods of korean firms. This paper has identified several findings from Korean manufacturing firms: (1) five different patterns are identified in the technology strategy of medium-sized companies; (2) a significantly positive relationship exists between a firm's leadership position and the aggressiveness in technological contents of their acquisition methods; (3) a significantly positive relationship of some technology acquisition methods to the firms' leadership position exists,

  • During a survey of putative fungal pathogens infecting oak trees in the Gangwon Province of the Republic of Korea, a fungus resembling a Ceratocystis sp. was repeatedly isolated from natural wounds on Quercus variabilis. Morphological comparisons and DNA sequence comparisons based on partial β-tubulin and TEF-1α gene regions showed that the fungus resided in a distinct lineage. This novel Ceratocystis species is described here as C. quercicola sp. nov. This is the first novel species of Ceratocystis to be reported from Korea. A pathogenicity test showed that it can cause lesions on inoculated trees but that it had a very low level of aggressiveness. The discovery of this fungus suggests that additional taxa residing in Ceratocystis are likely to be discovered in Korea in the future.

  • The development of cancer has been an extensively researched topic over the past few decades. Although great strides have been made in cancer prevention, diagnosis, and treatment, there is still much to be learned about cancer's micro-environmental mechanisms that contribute to cancer formation and aggressiveness. Macrophages, lymphocytes which originate from monocytes, are involved in the inflammatory response and often dispersed to areas of infection to fight harmful antigens and mutated cells in tissues. Macrophages have a plethora of roles including tissue development and repair, immune system functions, and inflammation. We discuss various pathways by which macrophages get activated, various approaches that can regulate the function of macrophages, and how these approaches can be helpful in developing new cancer therapies.
