  • Introduction: According the 2011 Taiwanese Government Statistics, the lower secondary school enrollment number of the new-immigrant-children is about 200,000. As known, most of the new immigrants are from the Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Thailand, the Philippines and Cambodia. In order to satisfy the increasing needs and demands on education of the children of new immigrant (CNI, henceforth), Taiwanese government not only develops, but also puts the after-school learning assistance policy into practice from 2006. Therefore, the main purpose of this study is to explore the mathematics achievement of the CNI after the implementation of the after-school learning assistance policy (AsLA policy, henceforth). Purposes: Firstly, to compare the mathematics achievement of the CNI by countries. Secondly, to compare the mathematics performance among the CNI, the children from high-risk family (CHRF, henceforth) and the children of general families. Samples: The 2,452 samples, selected from two junior high schools located in central Taiwan, include 157 CNI, 522 CHRF. Methods: The main method used in this study is interval fuzzy number (IFN, henceforth) in order to compare the mathematics achievement of the children after the implementation of the AsLA policy from different type of families. Results: To reach the two purposes of this study. We can find the effectiveness of mathematics performance from three group's children of new immigrants, high-risk, general family. Therefore, the results provide one of the ways to review the new immigrant's education policy of after-school learning assistance in Taiwan.

  • The plastic strain ratio is one of the factors that affect the deep drawability of Al alloy sheet. The deep drawability of Al alloy sheet is limited because of its low plastic strain ratio. Therefore an increase in the plastic strain ratio to improve the deep drawability of Al alloy sheet is needed. The current study investigated the increase of the plastic strain ratio and the change in texture of AA5083 Al alloy sheet after a 2 step asymmetric rolling with heat treatments. The average plastic strain ratio of initial AA5083 Al alloy sheets was 0.83. After the first asymmetric rolling step of 88% deformation and subsequent heat treatment at $320^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes the value was still 0.83. After the second asymmetric rolling of 14% reduction and subsequent heat treatment at $330^{\circ}C$ for 10 minutes the plastic strain ratio rose to 1.01. The average plastic strain ratio after the 2 step asymmetric rolling and heat treatment is 1.2 times higher than that of initial AA5083 Al alloy sheet. This result is related to the development of ND/<111> texture component after the second asymmetric rolling and heat treatment.

  • Self-management training is one of the ways to empower patients to cope with disease. The aim of this before-and-after quasi-experimental study was to determine effects of a teach-back self-management training method on breast cancer patient happiness. Fifty breast cancer patients who visited the Park-e Neshat Limited Surgery Clinic in Kerman, Iran were randomly divided into intervention and control groups after convenience sampling and checking for inclusion eligibility. Data were collected using a demographic questionnaire and the Oxford Happiness Inventory before and after teach-back training and analyzed using SPSS 23. Findings showed no significant difference between mean happiness scores in the two groups before the intervention. However, after the intervention, the mean happiness score in the intervention group increased from 37.2 to 62.9, while it decreased from 41.4 to 29.8 in the control group. These changes were statistically significant (p<0.001). Even after controlling for the effect of confounding factors such as residence location and history of cancer education, the observed differences between the groups were statistically significant (p<0.001). A teach-back self-management training program can increase happiness levels in breast cancer patients. Therefore, the use of this method is recommended to improve self-management and increase happiness.

  • Full-mouth disinfection (Fdis) completes the entire scaling and root planing (SRP) in one stage within 24 hours for the prevention of microbial recolonization from untreated sites and ecological niches. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical short-term effects of modified Fdis with those of the conventional SRP in the therapy of moderate and severe chronic periodontitis. Modified Fdis group (5 patients) received the entire SRP within 24 hours using chlorhexidine solution (0.1%) and conventional SRP group (5 patients) received SRP per quadrant at one-week intervals. Clinical parameters were measured at baseline, one month and three months after both therapies. The results of this case report were as follows: 1. There were considerable decreases in sulcus bleeding index and plaque index one month after Fdis. 2. The mean probing depth of single-rooted teeth decreased more in Fdis group than conventional SRP group after therapy and, that of multi-rooted teeth decreased similarly in both groups. 3. The mean probing depth decreased 1.77mm in case of initial probing depth of 4-6mm and it decreased 4.13mm in case of initial probing depth of ${\geq}$ 7mm three months after Felis. 4. There were the smaller increases in gingival recession together with the larger gains in attachment in Fdis group than conventional SRP group after three months. Within the limitations of this study, one could conclude that Fdis has beneficial clinical effects in the treatment of moderate and severe chronic periodontitis and further research would be helpful including more subjects during a longer period to confirm the beneficial long-term effects of Fdis.

  • Purpose: The aim of this study is to compare volume and revascularization of autogenous block bone grafts in simultaneously cortical perforation of recipient beds and grafts, and only cortical perforation of recipient beds. Materials and methods: Two block bone in 8mm diameter was harvested in both skull using trephine bur on 20 New Zealand white rabbits. Harvested block bone was grafted on both inferior border of mandible. On the left side(experimental side), cortical bone of recipient beds and graft were perforated, and on the right side(control side), the only recipient bed was perforated. The rabbits had been sacrificed and infused the India ink for the observation of revascularization at 20 day and 40 day after surgery. The specimens were processed for H-E staining and quantitative analysis(independent t-test, p<0.01) was made under an optical microscope. In additional, specimens were processed for the observation of revascularization. Results: After 20 days, more bone volume was observed in experimental group, but no significant difference between two groups(p=0.106). There were significantly more bone volume in the experimental group at 40 days after surgery(p<0.01). After 20 days, more discrete vascular sprouts were observed in experimental side, but no difference at 40 days after surgery. Conclusion: We conclude that the cortical perforation of both the recipient beds and grafts improve revascularization at early stage and overall graft persistence.

  • Background: This report describes the authors' experience of "melting" septal cartilage after placement of a septal extension graft in a nasopharyngeal cancer patient that had been previously undergone radiation therapy, and provides a review of the literature. Methods: Electronic medical records were used to obtain details of the patient's clinical history. Results: A 32-year-old woman, who had previously undergone radiotherapy for nasopharyngeal cancer, visited our department to for rhinoplasty. Rhinoplasty was performed using a septal extension graft to raise the nasal tip (first operation). Five days after surgery, it was found that the septal extension graft was melting without any signs of infection, that is, the graft had softened, lost elasticity, thinned, and partially disappeared without any sign of infection at 5 days, and thus, the nasal tip was reconstructed with conchal cartilage (second operation). Five months after surgery, it was found that almost all septal cartilage had disappeared without any sign of infection, and thus, the entire nasal septum was reconstructed using 2-mm costal cartilage and an onlay graft was used for tip augmentation (third operation). Conclusions: After cartilage has been exposed to radiotherapy, its patency should be viewed with suspicion. Further studies are needed for determine the mechanism responsible for cartilage damage after radiotherapy.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the eruption patterns of mandibular premolars associated with dentigerous cysts after marsupialization regarding the depth, angulation and root development of impacted teeth. Spontaneous eruption was found in 93% of mandibular premolars after marsupialization. Eruption speed and rate of angulation change were greater in mandibular premolars associated with a cyst than those on the non-cyst side. The group with less matured roots tended to have greater eruption speed and angulation change. The eruption speed and angulation change declined rapidly during the first 6 months after marsupialization. Based on the results of this study, it might be possible to predict the eruption pattern of mandibular premolars associated with a cyst after marsupialization, which would be useful for treatment planning.

  • Purpose: Infliximab (IFX) is considered safe and effective for the treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC) in both adults and children. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short- and long-term clinical course of IFX in Korean children with UC. Methods: Pediatric patients with UC who had received IFX infusions between November 2007 and May 2013 at Samsung Medical Center were retrospectively investigated. The clinical efficacy of IFX treatment was evaluated at 8 weeks (short term) and 54 weeks (long term) after the initiation of IFX treatment using the Pediatric Ulcerative Colitis Activity Index (PUCAI). The degree of response to IFX treatment was defined as complete response (PUCAI score=0), partial response (decrement of PUCAI score${\geq}20$ points), and non-response (decrement of PUCAI score <20 points). Adverse events associated with IFX treatment were also investigated. Results: Eleven pediatric patients with moderate to severe UC had received IFX. The remission rate after IFX treatment was 46% (5/11) and 82% (9/11) at 8 weeks and 54 weeks after IFX treatment, respectively. All patients who were steroid-dependent before treatment with IFX achieved remission at 54 weeks and were able to stop treatment with corticosteroids, while all steroid-refractory patients failed to achieve remission at 54 weeks after treatment with IFX. Conclusion: Response to IFX treatment after 8 weeks may predict a favorable long-term response to IFX treatment in Korean pediatric UC patients.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the microtubule distributions of somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) and parthenogenetic porcine embryos. Porcine SCNT embryos were produced by fusion of serum-starved fetal fibroblast cells with enucleated oocytes. Reconstituted and mature oocytes were activated by electric pulses combined with 6-dimethlyaminopurine treatment. SCNT and parthenogenetic embryos were cultured in vitro for 6 days. Microtubule assembly of embryos was examined by confocal microscopy 1 hr and 20 hr after fusion or activation, respectively. The proportions of embryos developed to the blastocyst stage were 25.7% and 30.4% in SCNT and parthenogenetic embryos, respectively. The frequency of embryos showing $\beta$-tubulins was 81.8% in parthenogenetic embryos, whereas 31.3% in SCNT embryos 1 hr after activation or fusion. The frequency of the embryos underwent normal mitotic phase was low in SCNT embryos (40.6%) compared to that of parthenogenetic ones (59.7%) 20 hr after fusion or activation (p<0.05). The rate of SCNT embryos with an abnormal mitosis pattern is about twice compared to that of parthenogenetic ones. The spindle assembly and its distribution of SCNT embryos in the first mitotic phase were not different from those of parthenogenetic ones. The result shows that although microtubule distribution of porcine SCNT embryos shortly after fusion is different from parthenogenetic embryos, and the frequency of abnormal mitosis 20 hr after fusion or activation is slightly increased in SCNT embryos, microtubule distributions at the first mitotic phase are similar in both SCNT and parthenogenetic embryos.

  • Effects of the aging treatments on the microstructure and strength of heat affected zone(HAZ) in the welds of a age-hardened Al-Mg-Si alloy, 5N01-T5, were investigated. The base metal aging treatments before MIG welding were conducted at 423K to 473K for 28.8ks Post weld heat treatment(PWHT) to recover the HAZ strength was performed at 448K for 28.8ks. Microstructure observations, hardness measurements and tensile tests were conducted to study properties of the MIG weld joints. The position of the softest region in HAZ where the hardness insufficiently recovered after natural aging and PWHT was at a distance of approximately 15mm from the center of the fusion zone. Hardness of the softest regions after natural aging and PWHT decreased with increase in the base metal aging temperature. TEM observation clarified that strengthening ${\beta}$"(Mg$_2$Si) precipitates and coarse ${\beta}$′ precipitates affected the hardnes of HAZ. Incomplete recover of hardness in HAZ after PWHT was caused by the precipitating of non-hardening ${\beta}$′ phase during the weld thermal cycle. In order to examine the effects of weldheat input and welding speed, the laser weld joints were also investigated and compared with the MIG weld ones. Laser welding had the narrower width of the softened regions in HAZ compared with MIG welding. The hardness of the softest regions of the laser welds after PWHT was higher than that of the MIG welds. Quantitative relations between hardness of the softest region and base metal aging temperature were obtained for both welding processes. Accordingly, the equations to estimate the strength of the weld joints after PWHT with varying base metal temperatures were proposed for MIG welding and laser welding.
