It is known that a single-key and a related-key attacks on AES-128 are possible for at most 7 and 8 rounds, respectively. The security of CMAC, a typical block-cipher-based MAC algorithm, has very high possibility of inheriting the security of the underlying block cipher. Since the attacks on the underlying block cipher can be applied directly to the first block of CMAC, the current security margin is not sufficient compared to what the designers of AES claimed. In this paper, we consider HMAC-DM-AES-128 as an alternative to CMAC-AES-128 and analyze its security for reduced rounds of AES-128. For 2-round AES-128, HMAC-DM-AES-128 requires the precomputation phase time complexity of $2^{97}$ AES, the online phase time complexity of $2^{98.68}$ AES and the data complexity of $2^{98}$ blocks. Our work is meaningful in the point that it is the first security analysis of MAC based on hash modes of AES.

Considering the safety of the data and performance, it can be said that the performance of the AES algorithm in a symmetric key-based encryption is the best in the IPSec-based VPN. When using the AES algorithm in IPSec-based VPN even with the expensive hardware encryption card such as OCTEON Card series of Cavium Networks, the Performance of VPN works less than half of the firewall using the same hardware. In 2008, Intel announced a set of 7 AES-NI instructions in order to improve the performance of the AES algorithm on the Intel CPU. In this paper, we verify how much the performance IPSec-based VPN can be improved when using seven sets of AES-NI instruction of the Intel CPU.
This paper presents new 8-bit implementation of AES. Most typical 8-bit AES designs are to reduce the circuit area by sacrificing its throughput. The presented AES architecture employs two separated S-box to perform round operation and key generation in parallel. From the simulation results of the proposed AES-128, the maximum critical path delay is 13.0ns. It can be operated in 77MHz and the throughput is 15.2 Mbps. Consequently, the throughput of the proposed AES has 1.54 times higher throughput than the other counterpart although the area increasement is limited in 1.17 times. The proposed AES design enables very low-area design without sacrificing its performance. Thereby, it can be suitable for the various IoT applications that need high speed communication.
In this paper, we propose a fault injection attack on AES-CMAC, which is defined by IETF. The fault assumption used in this attack is based on that introduced at FDTC'05. This attack can recover the 128-bit secret key of AES-CMAC by using only small number of fault injections. This result is the first known key recovery attack result on AES-CMAC.

Modern GPU can execute general purpose computation on the graphic processing unit, and provide high performance by exploiting many core on GPU. To run AES algorithm efficiently, parallel computational resources are required. However, computational resource of CPU architecture are not enough to cryptographic algorithm such as AES whereas GPU architecture has mass parallel computation resources. Therefore, this paper reduce the time to execute AES by employing parallel computational resource on GPGPU. Unfortunately, AES cannot utilize computational resource on GPGPU since it isn't suitable to GPGPU architecture. In this paper, IPC based dynamic SM management technique are proposed to efficiently execute AES on GPGPU. IPC based dynamic SM management can increase and decrease the number of active SMs by using IPC in run-time. According to simulation results, proposed technique improve the performance by increasing resource utilization compared to baseline GPGPU architecture. The results show that AES improve the performance by 41.2% on average.
In this work, properties of ABS/AES blends were investigated. Blends were prepared by casting from THF. The thermal stability, light resistance, storage modulus and flame retardancy were measured by thermogravimetric analysis, cole. difference in Fade-o-meter, Rheovibron, and limiting oxygen index(LOI). The thermal stability, light resistance and storage modulus increased with increasing contents of AES. ABS and AES showed similar LOI. The LOI of the ABS/AES blends increased with rising contents of AES but all the blends were found to be flammable. It was observed that ABS and AES was incompatible from the morphology by scanning electron microscope(SEM).

In this paper, we propose workload partitioning methods in parallelizing AES-CCM which is proposed as the wireless encryption and message integrity standard IEEE 802.11i. In parallelizing AES-CCM having data dependency, synchronizations among processors are required, and multi-core processors have a very large range of synchronization performance. We propose and compare the performance of various workload partitioning methods by considering both the computational characteristics of AES-CCM and the synchronization overhead.

In this paper, we describe VLSI design and performance evaluation of OCB-AES crytographic algorithm that simulataneously provides privacy and authenticity. The OCB-AES crytographic algorithm sovles the problems such as long operation time and large hardware of conventional crytographic system, because the conventional system must implement the privancy and authenticity sequentially with seqarated algorithms and hardware. The OCB-AES processor with area-efficient modular offset generator and tag generator is designed using IDEC Samsung 0.35um standard cell library and consists of about 55,700 gates. Its cipher rate is about 930Mbps and the number of clock cycles needed to generate the 128-bit tags for authenticity and integrity is (m+2)${\times}$(Nr+1), where m and Nr represent the number of block for message and number of rounds for AES encryption, respectively. The OCB-AES processor can be applicable to soft cryptographic IP of IEEE 802.11i wireless LAN and Mobile SoC.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether serum neuron-specific enolase (NSE) was expressed in acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) that causes neuronal damage in children. Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in the pediatric neurology ward of Soetomo Hospital. Cases of AES with ages ranging from 1 month to 12 years were included. Cases that were categorized as simple and complex febrile seizures constituted the non-AES group. Blood was collected for the measurement of NSE within 24 hours of hemodynamic stabilization. The median NSE values of both groups were compared by using the Mann-Whitney U test. All statistical analyses were performed with SPSS version 12 for Windows. Results: In the study period, 30 patients were enrolled. Glasgow Coma Scale mostly decreased in the AES group by about 40% in the level ${\leq}8$. All patients in the AES group suffered from status epilepticus and 46.67% of them had body temperature >$40^{\circ}C$. Most of the cases in the AES group had longer duration of stay in the hospital. The median serum NSE level in the AES group was 157.86 ng/mL, and this value was significantly higher than that of the non-AES group (10.96 ng/mL; P<0.05). Conclusion: AES cases showed higher levels of serum NSE. These results indicate that serum NSE is a good indicator of neuronal brain injury.

Vehicles have increasingly evolved and become intelligent with convergence of information and communications technologies (ICT). Vehicle communications (VC) has become one of the major necessities for intelligent vehicles. However, VC suffers from serious security problems that hinder its commercialization. Hence, the IEEE 1609 Wireless Access Vehicular Environment (WAVE) protocol defines a security service for VC. This service includes Advanced Encryption Standard-Counter with CBC-MAC (AES-CCM) for data encryption in VC. A high-speed AES-CCM crypto module is necessary, because VC requires a fast communication rate between vehicles. In this study, we propose and implement an efficient AES-CCM hardware architecture for high-speed VC. First, we propose a 32-bit substitution table (S_Box) to reduce the AES module latency. Second, we employ key box register files to save key expansion results. Third, we save the input and processed data to internal register files for secure encryption and to secure data from external attacks. Finally, we design a parallel architecture for both cipher block chaining message authentication code (CBC-MAC) and the counter module in AES-CCM to improve performance. For implementation of the field programmable gate array (FPGA) hardware, we use a Xilinx Virtex-5 FPGA chip. The entire operation of the AES-CCM module is validated by timing simulations in Xilinx ISE at a speed of 166.2 MHz.
