High-speed railway system is exposed to severe aerodynamic problems and has various requirements both on design and operation; 80% of running resistance is composed of aerodynamic drag, the cross-sectional area and portal shape of tunnel should be designed under aerodynamic consideration, and natural wind velocity should always be monitored to prevent the overturning of train by crosswinds. In addition, most of the aerodynamic problems are proportional to the running speed or square of the running speed. Thus, when the running speed of a high-speed railway system either on operation or under construction is to be increased, the aerodynamic problems should be assessed in advance and the countermeasures should be prepared to alleviate the aerodynamic problems to meet certain requirements. In this study, aerodynamic problems that could occur at speed up of high-speed line have been investigated and aerodynamic requirements to meet the increased operational speed have been studied referring the international and domestic rules, guidance, and recommendations.
The aerodynamic force is a significant component that influences the stability and safety of structures. It has unstable properties and depends on computer precision, making its long-term prediction challenging. Accurately estimating the aerodynamic traits of structures is critical for structural design and vibration control. This paper establishes an unsteady aerodynamic time series prediction model using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network. The unsteady aerodynamic force under varied Reynolds number and angles of attack is predicted by the LSTM model. The input of the model is the aerodynamic coefficients of the 1 to n sample points and output is the aerodynamic coefficients of the n+1 sample point. The model is predicted by interpolation and extrapolation utilizing Unsteady Reynolds-average Navier-Stokes (URANS) simulation data of flow around a circular cylinder, square cylinder and airfoil. The results illustrate that the trajectories of the LSTM prediction results and URANS outcomes are largely consistent with time. The mean relative error between the forecast results and the original results is less than 6%. Therefore, our technique has a prospective application in unsteady aerodynamic force prediction of structures and can give technical assistance for engineering applications.
Generally, the chassis of an indoor RAC is composed of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of the chassis of an indoor RAC. The purpose of this paper is to select the optimum design factors through the aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan. The design factors are the leading angle of a rear-guider (${\theta}_1$), a stabilizer setup angle(${\theta}_2$), a rear-guider clearance(${\epsilon}_1$), and a stabilizer clearance(${\epsilon}_2$), respectively. As a result, the optimum design factors of an indoor RAC can be presented as a combination of ${\theta}_1=33^{\circ}$, ${\theta}_2=55^{\circ}$, ${\epsilon}_1=6{\sim}8mm$, and ${\epsilon}_2=7mm$ through the analysis of a static pressure coefficient and a static pressure efficiency.
The design method for transonic turbine blades has been developed based on Wavier-Stokes equations. The present computing process is done on the four separate steps, i.e., determination of the blade profile, generation of the computational grids, cascade flow simulation and analysis of the computed results in the sense of the aerodynamic performance. The blade shapes are designed using the cubic polynomials under the control of the design parameters. Numerical methods for the flow equations are based on Van-Leer's FVS with an upwind TVD scheme on the finite volume. In the present study, numerical simulation has been done to investigate the effects of the design parameters on the aerodynamic peformance of the axial-flow turbine blades. Applications are made to the VKI transonic rotor blades. Computed results are analyzed with respect to four parameters and compared with the experimental data.

Geometrical design variables are numerically investigated to improve aerodynamic performance of the supersonic impulse turbine of a turbopump in a liquid rocket engine. Aerodynamic redesign was performed for maximization of the blade power. Four design variables considered are blade angle, blade thickness and radii of upper and lower arc blade with appropriate constraints. A fast Navier-Stokes solver was developed and Chien's k-$\varepsilon$ turbulence modelling was used for turbulence closure. In initial shape, a flow separation was found in the middle of blade chord. However, it disappeared in final shape via its geometrical design variable change. About 3.2 percent of blade power was increased from this research.
Tall buildings have been traditionally designed to be symmetric rectangular, triangular or circular in plan, in order to avoid excessive seismic-induced torsional vibrations due to eccentricity, especially in seismic-prone regions like Japan. However, recent tall building design has been released from the spell of compulsory symmetric shape design, and free-style design is increasing. This is mainly due to architects' and structural designers' challenging demands for novel and unconventional expressions. Another important aspect is that rather complicated sectional shapes are basically good with regard to aerodynamic properties for crosswind excitations, which are a key issue in tall-building wind-resistant design. A series of wind tunnel experiments and numerical simulation have been carried out to determine aerodynamic forces and wind pressures acting on tall building models with various configurations: corner cut, setbacks, helical and so on. Dynamic wind-induced response analyses of these models have also been conducted. The results of these experiments have led to comprehensive understanding of the aerodynamic characteristics of tall buildings with various configurations.
The optimal design for a leading car considering the aerodynamic resistance is required on the high-speed train due to increasing of ratio of drag force with proportion for the square of velocity. The aerodynamic analysis using CFD in the stage of concept design offers more economical analysis method which is used to estimate the influence of flow and pressure around the leading car than the experimental method using the Mock-up. In this study, we want to assist the artistic design with aerodynamics analysis in order to get the optimal design for leading car with the operation speed of 180km/h. The results of aerodynamic analysis for two leading car models which one is expressed with lineal beauty and the other is with curvaceous beauty are compared with each other and they offer the proposal of modification for two models in order to decrease the drag force. The shape of curvaceous model is better for the pressure force but slightly worse for the viscous force than the other. The Fluent software is used for the calculation of flow profile in this study.

The main concern of this study is to integrate the EARSM into an industrial RANS solver in conjunction with the $k-{\omega}$ model, as proposed by Hellsten (EARSMKO2005). In order to improve the robustness, particular limiters are introduced to turbulent conservative variables, and a suitable full-approximation storage (FAS) multi-grid (MG) strategy is designed to incorporate turbulence model equations. The present limiters and MG strategy improve both robustness and efficiency significantly but without degenerating accuracy. Two discretization approachs for velocity gradient on cell interfaces are implemented and compared with each other. Numerical results of a three-dimensional supersonic square duct flow show that the proper discretization of velocity gradient improves the accuracy essentially. To assess the capability of the resulting EARSM $k-{\omega}$ model to predict complex engineering flow, the case of Common Research Model (CRM, Wing-Body) is performed. All the numerical results demonstrate that the resulting model performs well and is comparable to the standard two-equation models such as SST $k-{\omega}$ model in terms of computational effort, thus it is suitable for industrial applications.
The aerodynamic performance of a cross-flow fan is strongly influenced by the various design factors of a rear-guider and a stabilizer. The design factors considered in this paper are a rear-guider clearance, a stabilizer clearance, and a stabilizer setup angle, respectively. Also, these factors are given to the various diameter ratio between a basic circle and a impeller. The static pressure and the flowrate of a cross-flow fan were measured with a fan-tester. It could be found that the useful design factors with a good aerodynamic performance exist in the certain assembly conditions of an indoor RAC. Therefore, it could be known that a new published patent determining the easy design of an indoor RAC can be applied in a variety of goods.

This paper presents the computational aerodynamic analysis of a long-endurance UAV that was developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI), named EAV-2. EAV-2 is a technical demonstrator of aerodynamically efficient design, as well as a hybrid electric-propulsion system for future long-endurance UAVs. We evaluated the aerodynamic characteristics of six low-Reynolds number airfoils, using a panel method code, XFOIL, to select an optimal airfoil for the long-endurance mission of EAV-2. The computational results by a CFD code, FLUENT, suggested that the aerodynamic performance of EAV-2 would be notably improved after adopting SG6043 airfoil, and modifying the fuselage design. This reduced the total drag by 43%, compared to that of a previous KARI model, EAV-1, at the target lift of $C_L=1.0$. Also, we achieved a drag reduction of approximately 14% by means of the low-drag fuselage configuration.
