Due to global economy recession with low oil price, Korea has stepped into a stage of sluggish development, and the unemployment has become a major issue. Hence, we study various risk factors influencing on unemployment using the Korean labor and income panel data of 2014. We first divide the adult life cycle into three categories, such as young adult, adult, and old adult. Then we consider demographic variables, occupational variables and health related variables as risk factors. The decision tree models have shown that education and gender are the most important factors respectively in young adult group and in adult group. Gender, health status, and education are influential factors in old adult group.
Purpose: This study was performed to assess problems associated with sleep (short and long sleep duration) and to identify risky subgroups with sleep problems among adult cancer survivors. The study is based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES VI and VII) from 2013 to 2016. Methods: The sociodemographic and clinical data of 504 Korean cancer survivors aged 20-64 years was extracted from the KNHANES VI and VII database. Descriptive statistics for complex samples was used, and decision-tree analyses were performed using the SPSS WIN 24.0 program. Results: The mean age for survivors was approximately 51 years. The mean sleep duration was 6.97 hours; 36.2% of participants had short (< 7 hours) and 9.9% had long (> 8 hours) sleep duration. From the decision-trees analyses, the characteristics of the adult cancer survivors related to sleep problems were presented with six different pathways. Sleep problems were analyzed according to the survivors' sociodemographic information (age, education, living status, and occupation), clinical characteristics (body mass index, hypercholesterolemia, and anemia) and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). The HRQoL (${\leq}0.5$ or > 0.5 cutoff point) was a significant predictor of the participants' sleep problems because all six pathways were started from this predictor in the model. Conclusion: Health care professionals could use the decision-tree model for screening adult cancer survivors with sleep problems in clinical or community settings. Nursing interventions considering these specific individual characteristics and HRQoL level should be developed to have adequate sleep duration for Korean adult cancer survivors.
Sacred groves are large areas of virgin or human-modified landscape with a diverse range of species that have been protected by local people for centuries due to cultural, religious beliefs, and taboo that the deities live in them and protect the villagers from various calamities. The present study was carried out for quantitative analysis of diversity, population structure, regeneration and conservation status of tree species in the four 36.86 ha sacred groves of Jhargram district in West Bengal. Tree species composition, population structure and regeneration status were analyzed by randomly establishing of 1 ha subplots within the sacred groves. Density, frequency, basal area, abundance, evenness, and other diversity indices were calculated for adult trees with girth at breast height (GBH) >31 cm. A total of 146 tree species belonging to 116 genera distributed in 44 families from 21 orders were recorded. Pterospermum suberifolium, family Malvaceae showed the highest Species Importance Value Index (SIVI, 21.33) and Fabaceae showed the highest Family Importance Value Index (FIVI, 35.59) values respectively. Individuals are categorised into three groups, seedling, sapling and adult based on girth classes. The majority of tree species exhibited good (52.74%) regeneration followed by fairly (24.66%), poor (15.75%) and no regeneration (6.85%) respectively. With the healthy existence of the sacred grove, the overall population structure of tree species showed a strong regeneration potential. The current data will be useful in determining the current status of tree species and will be used by the forest department, politicians, and conservationists to establish management plans for the conservation of priority species in the region. Since the study areas were sacred groves, tribal members were keen to preserve them due to their religious significance.
BACKGROUND: The 'Gamhong' cultivar, middle season apple with big fruit size and high soluble solid content, has been bred in Korea. However, it was hard to cultivate the cultivar in Korea by serious bitter pit. The relationships between shoot growth, fruit size, and bitter pit may be affected by crop load. This study was conducted for 2 years (7~8 years after planting) to investigate vegetative growth, fruit quality, bitter pit incidence, return bloom, and gross income for optimum crop load of 'Gamhong'/M.9 adult apple tree. METHODS AND RESULTS: The crop load was assigned to 4 different object ranges as follow: 45~64, 65~84, 85~104, and 105~124 fruits per tree. The vegetative growth, average fruit weight, percentage of fruits heavier than 375 g, soluble solid content, and return bloom increased significantly at the crop load range of 45~64 fruits. However, the lowest total gross income per tree may have been caused by the highest bitter pit incidence and the lowest yield per tree in any other crop load range. The total gross income and yield per tree increased significantly at the crop load range of 105~124 fruits and return bloom dropped to 40%, and hence it was possible to occur biennial bearing. It was 85~104 fruits that biennial bearing did not occur and total gross income was as high as the crop load range of 105~124 fruits. Also, the yield of high grade fruits per tree, with fruit weight of 400~499 g and none bitter pit on fruit surface, was highest at the crop load range of 85~104 fruits, compared to other crop load range. CONCLUSION: In considering fruit size, bitter pit incidence, return bloom, and gross income, the optimum crop load range of 'Gamhong'/M.9 adult apple tree in high density orchard was 85~104 fruits per tree.
Purpose: The study is to investigate the effects of tea tree oil gargling on oral cavity micro-organism growth and on the perceived discomfort of patients receiving chemotherapy. Methods: A nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design was used to determine the effects of tea tree oil gargling on oral cavity for 20 second after using it for one week, twice a day. The sample consisted of two groups of patients receiving chemotherapy : 19 patients in experimental and 20 patients in control group. The instruments used in the study were Oral Assessment Guide(OAG), a measure of perceived symptoms on oral cavity, and a test of oral mucosal micro-organism culture. The data were analyzed using chi-square test, repeated measure of ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in micro-organism culture test of oral mucosa. The experimental group showed a lower number and fewer kinds of micro-organisms than the control group. Conclusion: It is considered that use of tea tree oil is effective in infection control of the oral cavity.
This study was performed to investigate the emergence timing and daily emergence from the different tree species logs (Korean white pine, Pine, and Japanese larch) at Cheongwon, Chungcheongbuk-do from 2006 to 2008. Pine sawyer adults began to emerge on early May (2${\sim}$10th day) and finished on mid-June (4${\sim}$20th day) in the Korean white pine and pine logs. However, pine sawyer adults began to emerge on mid-May (13th day) and finished late May (27th day) in Japanese larch logs, Japanese larch logs shows shorter emergence timing of pine sawyer adult compare to those of other two tree species. Emergence timing shows no difference between males and females. Sex ratios of emerged adult in 2007 were 0.55 from Korean white pine, 0.46 from Pine, and 0.59 from Japanese larch; it shows no difference among tree species. Female and male adults emerged throughout 24 hrs; 22.8% of the total adults emerged from 12${\sim}$14:00 (22.8%) and adults emerged lowest from 06${\sim}$08:00. Of the adults emerged from the logs, 98.9% was univoltine and the rest was biennial which emerged next year.

Movement of adult Monochamus alternatus was investigated on young black pine, Pinus thunbergii, trees for about one month in a screen cage. Number of pine trees to which M. alternatus females and males moved during the experimental period was $6.4{\pm}1.4$ and $7.2{\pm}1.5$ out of 15 trees, respectively. Adult females and males moved to $0.2{\pm}0.1$ and $0.3{\pm}0.1$ tree per day, respectively. A 74.6 and 80.7% of adult females and males moved at night (17:00-08:00) to other trees. After moving, most beetles (72.6% of females and 76.0% of males) stayed on the tree to which they moved for one to two days. Some beetles stayed for up to seven days.
We have developed an in vitro micropropagation system via shoot formation from axillary buds using nodal segments of Corylopsis coreana. Explants from both juvenile tree (one-year-old greenhouse stock seedlings) and mature tree (ten-years-old tree in nursery) were compared with regard to propagation efficiency. Combined treatment of both BA and zeatin were effective on shoot proliferation since the best result was obtained on MS medium supplemented with 0.5∼3.0 mg/L zeatin and 0.2 mg/L BA. Generally, juvenile explants were better in both shoot proliferation and growth than mature explants. However, as the duration of in vitro culture was proceed to 6 months, explants from mature tree also produced three shoots per explant. Distinctive differences in rooting and adaptability to soil of shoots obtained from mother trees. Whereas shoots originated from juvenile explants rooted as high as 97%, those from adult explants showed 62% rooting. Similar result was also observed in soil acclimatization. The plantlets derived from juvenile plants survived 67%, while only 48% of those from adult trees survived. The results showed a possibility of the micropropagation of Corylopsis coreana through shoot formation from axillary buds. In addition, the advance of the research still remain to enhance the frequency of acclimatization of plantlets from mature trees for practical application.
Objective: This study was conducted to examine the significant factors affecting media device addiction using the data mining technique for large-scale data from the Panel Study on Korean Children Survey (PSKC). The PSKC data of this study were gathered from the elementary school students in their 10th survey (1,286 3rd grade students). Methods: The SPSS 21.0 program was used for data mining decision tree analysis, and the results are as follows. Results: First, the most important predictor of media device addiction was planning-organization which was among the sub-factors of executive function. Second, as a result of the decision tree analysis, the children with the highest probability of addiction to media devices were ones that had difficulties in planning and organizing, had mothers with a permissive parenting attitude felt difficulties in controlling behavior, and were alone at home for more than two hours a day without any adult supervision. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study can help guide the direction of future research related to children's addiction to media devices by exploring and analyzing factors that significantly affect children's addiction to media devices.
Breast cancer is known as a disease that occurs in a lot of developed countries. However, in recent years, the incidence of Korea's modern woman is increased steadily. As well known, breast cancer usually occurs in women over 50. In the case of Korea, however, the incidence of 40s with young women is increased steadily than the West. Therefore, it is a very urgent task to build a manual to the accurate diagnosis of breast cancer in adult women in Korea. In this paper, we show how using data mining techniques to predict breast cancer. Data mining refers to the process of finding regular patterns or relationships among variables within the database. To this, sophisticated analysis using the model, you will find useful information that is easily revealed. In this paper, through experiments Deicion Tree Naive Bayes analysis techniques were compared using analysis techniques to diagnose breast cancer. Two algorithms was analyzed by applying C4.5 algorithm. Deicison Tree classification accuracy was fairly good. Naive Bayes classification method showed better accuracy compared to the Decision Tree method.
