Factors Influencing Resilience of Adult Children of Alcoholics among College Students (알코올 중독자 성인 자녀인 대학생의 극복력에 영향을 미치는 요인)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore the resilience of adult children of alcoholics (ACOA) who are college students, and examine factors contributing to their resilience. Methods: A total of 459 college students from a university in Incheon, participated in this study. Data were collected between April 6 to 30, 2010 using the Korean version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST-K), CAGE, Social Support, Self-Esteem, Family Adaptability and Cohesion, and Resilience measurements. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 18.0 program. Results: Overall, ACOA group showed lower scores of resilience, social support, self-esteem and family adaptability and cohesion compared to non-ACOA group. Resilience among the ACOA group showed significant relationships with self-esteem (r=.53, p<.001), social support (r=.43, p<.001), and family adaptability and cohesion (r=.25, p<.013). Multiple regression analysis showed that 45% of the variance for resilience in the ACOA group was accounted for by age, gender, social support, self-esteem, and religion. Conclusion: The results of the study show that self-esteem and social support are important determinants of resilience in ACOA, thus it is recommend that further resilience training programs for ACOA be developed to enhance their social support and self-esteem, and ultimately to increase their resilience.

Intervention of Virtual Reality of Adult Nursing Practicum for Nursing Students: A Systematic Review (간호대학생의 성인간호실습 가상현실 교육 중재: 체계적 고찰)

  • This study explored the effectiveness of virtual reality education interventions for nursing students in adult nursing practicum. This systematic review extracted intervention methods, research topics, outcome variables, and evidence synthesis of effectiveness. Seven studies were extracted from the databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and RISS. This study showed effects on knowledge, performance, attitude, critical thinking, self-efficacy, information assessment ability, problem-solving ability, self-confidence, and efficiency of nursing students. Therefore, virtual reality educational intervention contribute to enhance the competencies in adult nursing practicum.

The Effects on Goal-directed Rubrics Nursing Student's Academic Achievement in Adult Nursing Education (목표지향적 루브릭을 활용한 성인간호학 교육이 간호학생의 학업성취도에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a goal-directed rubrics for a adult nursing education and to evaluate this rubric's effects on academic achievement of nursing students. A total of 154 nursing students participated in this study. The data were analyzed by t-test, $x^2$-test with SPSS win 20.0 program. Rubrics in adult nursing education was to improve the academic achievement. With this result, the rubrics development of nursing education in a variety of areas and would have to be evaluated.

Effect of the Auriculotherapy on Dysmenorrhea in School-aged Girls (이혈요법이 여학생의 생리통과 월경곤란증에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to identify the effect of auriculotherapy on low abdominal pain and dysmenorrhea in school-aged girls. Methods: This design was a pre and post-test with nonequivalent groups. The subjects were 71 girls who were middle school students with dysmenorrheal (35 students for the treatment group and 36 students for the comparison group). The subjects of the treatment group received auriculotherapy once a week for 10 weeks. The comparison group received instruction on auriculotherapy and was requested waiting for the order. Results: The treatment group reported significantly less low abdominal pain than the comparison group. However, there were not statistical differences in reported dysmenorrhea. In future analysis, 60.0% of the treatment group reported more physical comfort, and 45.7% reported more emotional cool down. Conclusion: The finding indicate that auriculotherapy could be effective in decreasing low abdominal pain during menstrual periods. Therefore, auriculotherapy could be an effective nursing intervention for low abdominal pain occurring during mensuration. However, further studies need to be done to support auriculotherapy as effective.

The Effect of a Simulated Disability Exercise Program on Attitude and Stereotyping toward People with Disabilities by Nursing Students (간호대학생의 모의장애체험이 장애인에 대한 태도와 고정관념에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effect of a simulated disability program on attitude and stereotyping by nursing students toward people with disabilities. Methods: A total of 107 undergraduate nursing students attended and completed pre-and post-questionnaires on attitude and stereotyping. The experimental group participated in a simulation exercise program which was composed of wheel-chair mobility and vision modification in Nam-won Rehabilitation Center. The data were analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 program including frequency, percentage, ${\chi}^2$ test and t-test. Results: There was no significant difference in attitude toward people with disabilities between the two groups (t=-.743, p=.459). But there was a significant difference in stereotyping between the experimental and the control group(t=-4.097, p=.000). Conclusion: As the result of this study, we can conclude that the program was effective to improve stereotyping toward people with disabilities.

It is expected to have effects on decrease the generation gap and conflicts between older and younger people based upon mutual understanding. And it is anticipated that this Proposal will be valuable for many adolescents to have provision about future senior citizen's society and various older adults-related professions .

Types of Attitude toward Dignified Dying Expressed by Undergraduate Korean Students Majoring in Human Service Area: Q-Methodological Approach (휴먼서비스 전공분야 대학생의 품위 있는 죽음에 관한 태도 - Q 방법론적 접근 -)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze attitude toward dignified dying of Korean students majoring in human service area. Methods: The Q-methodology which provides a method of analyzing the subjectivity of each item was used. The 34 selected Q-statements from each of 38 subjects were classified into a shape of normal distribution using a 9 point scale. The collected data was analyzed using a QUANL PC program. Results: Four types of attitude toward dignified dying from the subjects were identified. Type I is an expression type for happy emotion, Type II is a dislike type for life prolongation, Type III is a pursuit type for relationship improvement, and Type IV is a perception type for family presence. Conclusion: The results of the study indicate that integrating multi-disciplinary curriculum development related to dignified dying and death education for students majoring in human service area are needed.

Learning Element Recognition and Academic Achievement of Nursing Student Receiving PBL with Simulation Education (시뮬레이션 실습이 접목된 문제중심학습에 대한 간호학생의 PBL 학습요소별 인식과 학업성취도)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze how a nursing student recognizes PBL with simulation education and its relationship to academic achievement. Methods: The study objects were the students in C college who learn through PBL using simulator for 15 weeks(September 2007 to December 2007). Learning element recognition was developed by Cho(2002) and three key evaluations(performance, self-evaluation, and colleague evaluation) were designed by professors. Results: Learning element recognition ranged from 2.37 to 4.83 with the average at 3.94. For Learning element recognition, students who preferred discussion score 4.15. This was statistically more significant than those who do not. Students who preferred presentations show significantly higher score in colleague evaluation. For Learning element recognition and academic achievement, self-evaluation and colleague evaluation showed relationship to PBL learning element. Conclusion: There was definitely a relationship with PBL learning element and academic achievement after learning the PBL with simulation education.

Instructional Planning in Online Universities in Korea: Considering Student Stressors and Demographic Variables

  • The present study explores how the stress of online learners is related to Korean cultural norms and social expectation and presents the criteria online education should aim at when designing instructional approaches. A sample of 176 students from a Korean online university participated in a study investigating the patterns in the academic and personal stressors they face. This study also examines stressor types in relation to sample characteristics, analyzed with a categorization method developed by extant researchers on the stress faced by U.S. college students. Unlike the findings of previous studies on college student stress, this study's results reveal that nontraditional Korean online students were faced with (1) taking on the multiple roles at work and home prescribed by cultural and social norms, and (2) challenges in regulating study habits and the learning environment as adult learners. The relevant implications for the design of online learning are discussed.
