  • The purposes of this study are to measure the prevalence of parental violence toward adolescents and to explore the predictors based on a data gathered from a sample of adolescents. A total of 1,451 adolescents attending middle and high school in Seoul and rural area completed a structured questionnaire. The results show that about 32% of the respondents are physically assaulted by their father and/or mother for the past year. A logistic analysis shows that adolescents are more likely to experience parental violence when their parents have frequent marital conflicts and when parents use violence between themselves than the adolescent whose parents have no frequent spousal conflict and no domestic violence. The results also show that the age of adolescents and the changes in the level of academic achievement are significant predictors of adolescents'experience of parental violence. The probability of experiencing parental violence was lowered as age increased. When adolescent had a significant drop in school achievement, the probability of experiencing parental violence increased. Based on these findings, research and policy implications to reduce and prevent the family violence toward adolescents are discussed.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of family violence, peer\`s deviant behavior, school environment, and accessibility of violence through a mass media, mediated by school violence, on adolescents 'psychological & behavioral maladjustment. The present study was the primary research of developing program for adolescents'psychological & behavioral adaptation to school violence. On the basis of previous literature, the theoretical model was specified, estimated, and evaluated for adequacy of statistical fat. Subjects of this study consisted of 974 adolescents drawn from middle and high schools in Cheong-ju. The model was supported by the data. Family violence, peer's deviant behavior, school environment, and accessibility of violence through a mass media explained directly the variance of school violence and adolescents'psychological & behavioral maladjustment. The results shows that adolescents'psychological & behavioral maladjustment can be viewed as products of the interaction with environmental factors and school violence. Accessibility of violence through a mass media was strongly related to school violence. Also, school violence was the strongest risk factor in relation to adolescents'behavioral maladjustment while school environment to adolescents'psychological maladjustment. Therefore, prevention program for school violence should consider the psychological & behavioral components within the environmental context.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare the factors related to violence victimization between multicultural and Korean-origin adolescents. Methods: This study used the data of the 2017 Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-Based Survey. A total of 54,748 multicultral and Korean-origin adolescents were included in the analysis. Weighted percentage and means were used to describe the sample. Simple and multiple logistic regressions were conducted using SAS 9.2. Results: The multicultural adolescents experienced more violence victimization than Korean-origin adolescents. In both groups, middle school students, habitual drug users, and those not living with their family showed a greater risk of becoming a victim of violence. In Korean-origin adolescents, while girls and those with mid-level family economic status showed a lower risk, those who had experienced sadness or despair, suicidal ideation, smoking and problematic drinking showed a higher risk of becoming a violence victim. In multicultural adolescents, those with a lower subjective health status and a lower stress level had a higher risk of violence victimization. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that the factors significantly related to violence victimization differ between multicultural and Korean-origin adolescents. Therefore, different approaches are required for the prevention and management of violence victimization in different populations.

Cybersex addiction, gender egalitarianism, sexual attitude and the allowance of sexual violence in adolescents were different according to general characteristics. Cybersex addiction of adolescents correlated with gender egalitarianism, sexual attitude and the allowance of sexual violence. Conclusion: Gender egalitarianism, sexual attitude and the allowance of sexual violence in adolescents were influenced by cybersex addiction. Results indicated that female adolescents(41.9%) reported experience of inflicting dating violence more frequently than male adolescents(29.1%) did. The girls were more positive toward violence than the boys, while the boys were more expressing aggression at school than the girls were. Adolescents who had inflicted violence toward their dating partners had singificantly higher frait anger and anger-out than adolescents who had not. Logistic regression analysis indicated that father to mother violence, community violence, trait anger, and recipient of dating violence are predictors of dating violence for male, while father to mother violence, community violence, history of violence, and recipient of dating violence are predictors for female.

Data were collected from 501 adolescents in 2007 and analyzed using SPSS 16.0. The statistics used for analysis were the T-Test, two-way ANOVA, and regression. Findings indicated that 45% of the sample population had experienced sibling violence and the most common acts were "hit with hand or objects". The violence of parents toward their children, gender, and the frequency of conflict between siblings were associated with sibling violence. From these results, the study proposed that education about sibling violence should be included in social work programs.

  • To identify adolescents' moral reasoning and attribution about peer violence, vignette study was conducted. 178 subjects selected from 4 inner city schools were asked to evaluate provoked violent situations. 4 situations depicting the provocation/retribution condition and 3 short vignettes depicting peer violence were presented, and adolescents were asked to judge the violent behavior and the morality of story characters. Analyses revealed that many adolescents focused more on the immorality of the provocation and perceived "hitting back" as a form of reciprocal justice. And a number of adolescents attributed the responsibility to the both of prosecutors and victims with situations which have obscure informations to judge the violent behaviors. In addition, adolescents having more violent characteristics were more likely to attribute the responsibility of violence to the victims than non-violent adolescents. Several suggestions based on these results are as follows: First, school or class-based conflict resolution program should be implemented to intervene in a dispute between peers. Second, it is necessary for comprehensive program such as Aggression Replacement Training including moral education as well as behavior modification to resolve peer violence.
