To investigate the feasibility of developing a novel melatonin plaster, the effects of vehicles and drug loading dose on the in vitro permeation of melatonin across dorsal hairless mouse skin from pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) matrices were examined. Vehicles employed were propylene glycol laurate (PGL), propylene glycol monocaprylate (PGMC) and diethylene glycol monoethyl ether (DGME). Among PSAs used, only $Duro-Tak^{\circledR}$ 87-2196 showed a good peeling property. The release from $Duro-Tak^{circledR}$ 87-2196 was proportional to the square root of time, and dose-dependent. The fluxes increased as the loading dose increased over the doses under solubility. The relatively high permeation flux $(3.03{\pm}1.37\;{\mu}g/cm^2/hr)$ was obtained when using PGMC at the melatonin loading dose of $45\;mg/140\;cm^2$. Lag time was not affected by the vehicles used but by the thickness spread. The melatonin plasters prepared using PGMC showed a good adhesive property onto skin, and showed no crystal formation.
The ultrastructure of fertilized egg envelope from Pseudobagrus fulvidraco belongs to Bagridae was investigated using light and electron microscopes. The fertilized egg was compressed spherical, light-yellowish, demersal, and adhesive. The size of fertilized egg is about $1.85{\pm}0.13mm$, perivitelline space is not well developed, and there were no appendicular structures on the outer surface of egg envelope and oil droplets in vitelline membrane under light microscope. The micropyle was located in the animal pole of fertilized egg. Adhesive reticular fiber was covered fertilized egg envelope. The thickness of egg envelope was about $3.7{\sim}4.2{\mu}m$, and the egg envelope consisted of two layers: an outer, electron-dense adhesive fibers layer and an simple inner layer with pore. Therefore, the ultrastructure of cross section of the fertilized egg envelope showed species specificity, but studies on the other species belongs to Bagridae were need to get correct information about common traits in family.
Residues such as walnut, pinenut and peanut shells were used as a filler in adhesive for bonding radiata pine plywood. The nutshell residues were prepared by simply drying to 8% moisture content and grinding the dry material using a laboratory Wiley mill with a $75{\mu}m$ (200 mesh) screen. The nutshells residues were compared to a commercial filler commonly used in adhesives by the structural plywood and laminated veneer lumber industry in the United States. The adhesive mixes were made by following the recommended procedure of Georgia-Pacific Resins, Inc., using phenol-formaldehyde resin. For each filler type, three-ply plywoods, 6 mm nominal thickness and 30 by 30 cm in size, were fabricated at two press times (4 and 5 min) and around 30 minute assembly time. Evaluations of the nutshell residues were carried out by tension shear tests after cyclic boil tests on plywood. The results of the performance test included tension shear strength and wood failure. All plywoods made with the nutshell fillers were comparable to those made with the control filler. These results indicate that nutshell residues would be suitable as filler for plywood adhesives.
This study was carried out to investigate characteristics of plywood overlaid with softwood veneers densified by resin impregnation and compression. The resin impregnability of Korean pine veneer under atmospheric pressure soaking was greater than that of larch, and impregnability of melamine resin was slightly greater than phenolic resin. It was suggested that resin impregnation ratio was affected by density and thickness of veneer. The largest melamine resin impregnation ratio of 50.7% was obtained with 1.26mm thick Korean pine veneer, and the lowest phenolic resin impregnation ratio of 11.7% with 3.41mm thick larch veneer. Therefore, it was suggested that the vacuum-pres sure-soak treatment is required at thick larch veneer. In densifying resin-impregnated veneers, densification ratio from 13.4 to 31.2% was obtained by high pressure from 15.6 to $20.8kgf/cm^2$. Impregnation of melamine resin also showed relatively greater at densification than that of phenolic resin. So it showed the degree of densification of about 20% or greater. It was seemed that adhesive bonding strength of plywood(base panel) which was directly pressed and overlaid with resin-impregnated veneer was affected by resin tackiness after resin impregnation followed by semi-drying. In laboratory scale, melamine resin impregnation was more favorable for the development of adhesive bonding strength owing to moisture control.
In this paper, an improved theoretical interfacial stress and slip analysis is presented for simply supported composite steel-concrete beam bonded with an adhesive. The adherend shear deformations have been included in the present theoretical analyses by assuming a linear shear stress through the thickness of the adherends, while all existing solutions neglect this effect. Remarkable effect of shear deformations of elements has been noted in the results. It is observed that large shear is concentrated and slip at the edges of the composite steel-concrete. Comparing with some experimental results from references, analytical advantage of this improvement is possible to determine the normal and shear stress to estimate exact prediction of normal and shear stress interfacial along span between concrete and steel beam. The exact prediction of these stresses will be very important to make an accurate analysis of the mode of fracture. It is shown that both the normal and shear stresses at the interface are influenced by the material and geometry parameters of the composite steel-concrete beam. This research is helpful for the understanding on mechanical behavior of the connection and design of such structures.
This research presents an improvement of the physical and mechanical properties of composite board (com-ply) made of Oriented Strand Board (OSB) coated with wood veneer of Pine (Pinus merkusii), Avocado (Persea Americana) and Mahogany (Swietenia mahogany). 1.5 mm thick veneers of those three wood types were adhered to the surface of OSB using two adhesive types: epoxy and isocyanate. The adhesive with the glue spread of $250g\;m^{-2}$ applied using single glue line was spread and then cold pressed with the pressure of $15kg\;cm^{-2}$ for 3 hours. The research result showed an improving dimension stability of com-ply, but not found on all parameters of physical property test. The moisture content seemed to be influenced by the com-ply type, yet not related to its thickness swelling, water absorption and linear expansion. The exception took place in the parallel linear expansion when immersed for 2 hours. The highest to the lowest increases of MOE and MOR were consecutively found on OSB coated with wood veneer of Pine, Mahogany and Avocado. However, the increases were statistically insignificant. The highest increasing screw hold power was found at the com-ply type AE (avocado veneer and epoxy adhesive) that was by 28%.

The evaluation of joint fatigue strength of light weight materials for electrical vehicle body has been performed through single lap joint tests with the design parameters such as joint style, adherend, bonding overlap length and bonding thickness. Fatigue strength was evaluated through 5-Hz, tension-tension, load controlled test with the stress ratio zero value. It is experimentally observed that fatigue strength of joint increases for the increase of overlap length. The combinations of Al-Al and Al-FRP adherends show that fatigue strength of joint is hardly changed for the increase of bonding thickness, but FRP-FRP adherend specimen shows that fatigue strength of joint increases after decreases for the increase of bonding thickness. Al-Al adherend specimen has much higher fatigue length than Al-FRP and FRP-FRP adherend specimens. Riveting at adgesive bonded joint gives little effect on fatigue strength.

Bonding of composite materials with an adhesive layer is one of the most promising alternatives to classical bonding techniques. The use of several surface treatments may greatly increase this adhesion behavior at the initial state. Then in order to see the influence of the thickness of polymer matrix on the adhesion of composite assembly, different surface treatment, which can reduce or increase this thickness, are used (peel ply, tear ply, excimer laser). The influence of this specific parameter is not only discussed at the initial state but also after thermal ageing of the whole bonded assembly. Results show that the best performances at the initial state are not obviously the best performances after ageing.

This paper investigates the vibrational damping characteristics of laminated plates composed of elastic, viscoelastic and elastic layers by theoretical and experimental methods. Laminated plates are in cylindrical bending and visco-elastic adhesive layer is assumed as the visco-elastic spring which takes damping effect through both shear and normal deformations. Governing equations oof laminated plates are derived in the form of simultaneous first order differential equations, which account for the longitudinal displacements, rotary inertia and shear deformations of elastic base plate and elastic constraining plate. The numerical calculations of the equations are illustrated by the applications to the cantilever beam in transverse vibration. The results of the solutions agree well with the experimental measurements in general. The damping effects due to the shear and thickness deformations in the adhesives are analyzed and it is shown that for thicker adhesives, the damping effect due to thickness deformation becomes significant and for thinner adhesives, due to shear deformation.

This study is on development of UV-cured water soluble coating composition which have more improved anti-cigar burning to prevent a surface of PVC tile from damage of heat. To make an anti-cigar burning coating solution, thermostable agent that synthesize main materials phosphorus compound, guanidine and ammonium phosphate dibasic used temporary flame retardants, changing their contents from 10 to 30wt% against quantities of resin and compounded. After coating PVC tiles using bar-coating method that can adjust a thickness, we estimated surface properties of coated layer such as anti-cigar burning, adhesive power, chemical resistance, thickness of coating, and so on. Results showed that a coating composition added 30 wt% of phosphorus compound and coated with No.12 bar-coater had the best optimized surface property in anti-cigar burning effect, adhesive power and chemical resistance. Also, we could find anti-cigar burning effect was improved as thermostable agents content and coating thickness increased.
