Water soluble urea-melamine-phenol copolymer adhesive manufactured with 80 percent of urea resin contents was manufactured by different molar ratio for a high temperature curing type, and their properties and strengthes were examined through manufactures of plywood with Kapur (Dryobalanops spp.) veneers. The results are summarized as follows: 1. Specific gravities of air dried plywood manufactured from each adhesive ranged from 0.78 to 0.84 and their moisture contents met the KS requirement. 2. In dry and wet shear strength, $U_{80}M_{10}P_{10}$ copolymer resin showed the highest value and urea resin was the lowest, indicating that melamine and phenol were effective for increasing glue shear strength of urea resin. 3. In case of glue shear strength after boiling test, phenolic resin was the nest and melamine was not so effective as phenol on reinforcement of boiling water resistance of urea resin.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare the shear bond strength of resin cement for orthodontic brackets without applying an adhesive primer, to the case of applying an adhesive primer. Materials and Methods: The specimens were divided into three experimental groups, Transbond XT, GC Ortho Connect and Orthomite LC, and the enamel surface was divided into two sections, one with 37% phosphoric acid and the other with 37% phosphoric acid and an adhesive primer or universal adhesive. Each of three types of cement was applied to orthodontic bracket, and after bonding, the shear bond strength was measured. Results: Transbond XT and Orthomite LC significantly increased shear bond strength when orthodontic brackets were bonded after applying an adhesive primer and universal adhesive, respectively. Conclusion: It is expected that application of an adhesive primer or universal adhesive after acid etching will improve shear bond strength of orthodontic brackets in Transbond XT and Orthomite LC.
Statement of problem : Limited research on flowable resin has been undertaken on its application directly on dentin associated with the adhesive systems. Purpose : This study was to evaluate the shear bond strengh and fracture aspect of flowable resin on human dentin with various types of dentin bonding adhesives with thermo cycling effect. Materials and methods: Filtek-Flow(3M ESPE, USA) was used as flowable resin and Eighty human molars were randomly divided into 4 groups : three dentin bonding adhesives (Scotchbond-Multipurpose : 3-step contentional system, One-Step : One-bottle system. Prompt L-Pop : All-in-one, self-etching primer) and 32% etching treatment without bonding adhesive as a control group. For evaluating their durability of bonding, each group was subdivided : storaging in the water at 37$^{\circ}C$(24 hours) and thermocycling (0$^{\circ}C$-55$^{\circ}C$, 30 seconds intervals, 1000 cycle). Shear bond strength tests were performed and resin-dentin interface and fracture mode were observed. Results were analysed by one-way ANOVA and Scheffe's multiple range test. Results and Conclusion : 1. At 0 cycle, the mean shear bond strength of One-Step exhibited the highest value of all groups(p<0.05), and there were no significant differences between Prompt L-Pop and Scotchbond-Multipurpose, Scotchbond-Multipurpose and control(p>0.05). After 1000 thermocycling, One-Step exhibited higher value than other groups(p<0.05), and there were no significant differences among other groups (p>0.05). 2. The shear bond strength of each group was significantly decreased after thermocycling except Scotchbond-Multipurpose (p>0.05). 3. The most common failure mode was adhesive type and mixed type, next in order.
Fanning et al.(1995) suggested that the incorporation of filler particles into a system's adhesive could increase the shear bond strength by improving the mechanical properties. In this study, shear bond strengths of experimental filled adhesives with varying filler levels were tested to determine the optimal filler level. The diametrile tensile strength and thickness of each experimental adhesive were also examined to evaluate if there is a relation between shear bond strength and mechanical properties of adhesive.(omitted)

Adhesive bonding repair methods has been used for a number of decades for construction of damaged structures. In order to evaluate the life of cracked aging aircraft structures, the repair technique which uses adhesively bonded boron/epoxy composite patches is being widely considered as a cost-effective and reliable method. But, this repair method contains many shortcomings. One of these shortcomings, debonding is major issue. When the adhesive shear stress increases, debonding is caused at the end of patch and plate interface. And this debonding is another defect except cracks propagation. In this paper, we assess safety at the cracked AI-plate repaired by Br/Epoxy composite patch. Firstly, from the view of fracture mechanics, reduction of stress intensity factors is determined by the variety of patch feature. Secondly, using the elastic analysis and finite element analysis, the distribution of adhesive shear stresses is acquired. Finally, The problem of how to optimize the geometric configurations of the patch has been discussed.

Optical performance of the mirror for satellite camera is highly dependent on the adhesive properties of its support. Therefore, in this paper, the adhesive properties of three kinds of space adhesives are investigated. For this purpose, the lap shear test is performed with Zerodur-to-metal lap shear specimen as well as metal-to-metal one. And it is also investigated whether reliable adhesive strength can be secured after the specific thermal cycle. Finally, the properties of three adhesives are compared with each other.
In this study, effects of surface roughness on adhesive strength of heat-resistant adhesive RTV88 were examined. Sandblast was used to generate rough surfaces on aluminum adherends, and then tensile-shear tests of Al/RTV88 single lap joints were performed. The shear strength was shown to be affected by the surface roughness. Effective area, peel failure area, and cohesive failure area were introduced to explain the effects of surface roughness on the adhesive strength. An empirical relation for the failure force was proposed based on these parameters and verified by the test results.

The objective of this study is to investigate the distribution of von Mises stress, peeling stress, and shear stress in the adhesive layer used to bond two composite panels, considering various parameters using a three-dimensional finite element method. The stiffness of the materials and the effect of the stacking order on the amount of load transferred to the adhesive layer were examined to determine which type of laminate generates less stress at the bond line. The study analyzed six different stacking sequences, all with a common first layer in contact with the adhesive and a 0° orientation. Additionally, the impact of using hybrid composites on reducing bond line stress was investigated.

Cross laminated timber (CLT) has been an rising issue as a promising building material replacing steel-concrete in mid story rise construction. But, there was no specific standard for CLT because it had been developed in industrial section. Recently, new draft for requirements of CLT was proposed by EN which suggested to evaluate the performance of adhesive in CLT by the same method as glulam. But, it has been reported that shear performance of cross laminated timber is governed by rolling shear. Therefore, block shear tests were carried out to compare parallel to grain laminating and cross laminating using commercial one component PUR (Poly urethane resin). The result showed that the current glulam standard for evaluating bonding performance is not appropriate for CLT. Beacause shear strength of cross laminating decreased to 1/3 of parallel to grain laminating and this strength was representing shear performance of wood itself not the bond. However, cross laminating showed no significant effect on wood failure. Thus, wood failure can be used as a requirement of CLT bonding. Based on the results, cross laminating effect should be included when evaluating adhesive performance of CLT correctly and should be considered as an important factor.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the physical properties of different self-adhesive resin cements and their shear bond strength on dentin and lithium disilicate ceramic and compare these result with that of conventional resin cement. For this study, four self-adhesive resin cements (Rely-X Unicem, Embrace Wetbond, Mexcem, BisCem), one conventional resin cement (Rely-X ARC) and one restorative resin composite (Z-350) were used. In order to evaluate the physical properties, compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and flexural strength were measured. To evaluate the shear bond strength on dentin, each cement was adhered to buccal dentinal surface of extracted human lower molars. Dentin bonding agent was applied after acid etching for groups of Rely-X ARC and Z-350. In order to evaluate the shear bond strength on ceramic, lithium disilicate glass ceramic (IPS Empress 2) disks were prepared. Only Rely-X ARC and Z-350 groups were pretreated with hydrofluoric acid and silane. And then each resin cement was adhered to ceramic surface in 2 mm diameter. Physical properties and shear bond strengths were measured using a universal testing machine. Results were as follows 1. BisCem showed the lowest compressive strength, diametral tensile strength and flexural strength. (P<0.05) 2. Self-adhesive resin cements showed significantly lower shear bond strength on the dentin and lithium disilicate ceramic than Rely-X ARC and Z-350 (P<0.05) In conclusion, self-adhesive resin cements represent the lower physical properties and shear bond strength than a conventional resin cement.
