  • $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites are fabricated by squeeze infiltration method. From the misconstructive of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites fabricated by squeeze infiltration method, uniform distribution of reinforcements and good bondings are found. Hardness value of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites increases linearly with the volume fraction of reinforcement because SiC whisker and $Al_{2}$O$_{3}$ fiber have an outstanding hardness. Optimal aging conditions are obtained by examining the hardness of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites with different aging time. Tensile properties such as Young's modulus and ultimate tensile strength are improved up to 30% and 40% by the addition of reinforcements, respectively. Failure mode of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites is ductile on microstructural level. Through the abrasive wear test and wear surface analysis, wear behaviour and mechanism of 6061 aluminum and $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites are characterized under various testing conditions. The addition of SiC whisker to $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ composites gives rise to improvement of the wear resistance. The wear resistance of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites is superior to that of Al/SiC composites. The wear mechanism of aluminum alloy is mainly abrasive wear at low speed range and adhesive and melt wear at high speed range. In contrast, that of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites is abrasive wear at all speed range, but severe wear when counter material is stainless steel. As the testing temperature increases, wear loss of aluminum alloy decreases because the matrix is getting more ductile, but that of $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites is hardly varied. Oil lubricant is more effective to reduce the wear loss of aluminum alloy and $Al/SiC/Al_{2}O_{3}$ hybrid composites at high speed range.

  • The archival objects are tangible evidence related to the public service. They are unique and offer information representing the specific events, time or person. The archival objects as modern cultural heritage do not have the guideline to classify, manage and conserve them. Especially, it is difficult to apply general conservation process for burial artifacts, because there are few study example of conservation for metal archival objects and they have complex administrative value. We tried to find suitable material and application method for consolidation of copper alloy archival object. We choose three kinds of wax and acrylic resin for burial artifacts and had done comparative analysis of their characterizations following kinds and coating methods. As a result of evaluation by several surface analysis such as optical microscope, measuring film thickness, adhesive strength, contact angle and yellowing test, acrylic resin can use to archival objects of copper alloy, effectively but the method of heating after dip-coating with Wax B used before can get best effect of consolidation.

  • Development of flexible electronic devices has primarily focused on printing technology using organic materials. However, organic-based flexible electronics have several disadvantages, including low electrical performance and long-term reliability. Therefore, we fabricated nano- and micro-thick silicon film attached to the polymer substrate using transfer printing technology to investigate the feasibility of silicon-based flexible electronic devices with high performance and high flexibility. Flexibility of the fabricated samples was investigated using bending and stretching tests. The failure bending radius of the 200 nm-thick silicon film attached on a PI substrate was 4.5 mm, and the failure stretching strain was 1.8%. The failure bending radius of the micro-thick silicon film attached on a FPCB was 2 mm, and the failure strain was 3.5%, which showed superior flexibility compared with conventional silicon material. Improved flexibility was attributed to a buffering effect of the adhesive between the silicon film and the substrate. The superior flexibility of the thin silicon film demonstrates the possibility for flexible electronic devices with high performance.

  • Statement of the problem. All-ceramic post-and-core restorations offer a number of advantages compared with systems that use metal build-ups. In certain clinical cases, however, fractures at the joint between the post and core build-up have been reported. Purpose. The objective, therefore, is to improve the joint between the post and the core build-up. Material and methods. Three different methods were used to prepare all-ceramic post-and-core restorations; pressing IPS Empress core build-ups to CosmoPost zirconia posts, cement-ing IPS Empress core build-ups to CosmoPost zirconia posts and Celay-milling of zirconia blanks. A series of ten restorations was prepared for each of the three methods. The post-and-core complexes were tested to failure with the load applied perpendicular to the post axis. The load and deflection at fracture were recorded. Results. The highest breaking load and highest deflection were recorded for the cementing technique with values of 25.3 N and $394{\mu}m$, respectively, The corresponding values for the pressed core build-ups and the milled zirconia core build-ups were 22 N and $301{\mu}m$, and 13 N and $160{\mu}m$, respectively. All the differences are statistically significant (p=0.05). Regarding the load-dependence of the deflection, the cemented core build-ups again demonstrated the highest value with $15.5{\mu}m/N$. The difference in the values of $13.6{\mu}m/N\;and\;13{\mu}m/N$ recorded for the pressed-on and milled core build-ups, respectively, were statistically insignificant. Conclusion. In regard to the high fracture resistance of zirconia post, adhesive cementing the core build-up to the post offers a viable alternative to the conventional pressing technique. The elastic bond between the rigid high-strength zirconia post and the core build-up presents an additional advantage.

  • Statement of the problem. The interest in all-ceramic restorations has increased as more techniques have become available. With the introduction of machinable dental ceramics and CAD/CAM systems or Copy-milling systems there is a need for evaluating the quality levels of these new fabrication techniques. Purpose. This study was to evaluate the fitting accuracy of machined all-ceramic crowns made out of an industrially prefabricated feldspathic porcelain. Material and Methods. Three master models with different cutting depth (0.8mm/1.0mm/1.2mm)were produced using a palladium-silver alloy. A total of 36 working dies, 12 of each form, was used for the modellation of prototype resin copings and 36 additional crowns, 12 of each cutting depth, were produced by using the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system for all crowns. The maginal fit of all 72 crowns was then evaluated on their respective master die at 54 circularly staggered points of measurement per crown under a fixation pressure of 30 N by using a computerized video image system. Results. The medians of the copy-milled $CELAY^{(R)}$ crowns ranged from 29 to $36{\mu}m$. The highest value for the marginal gap was found in group B (cutting depth 1.0mm) at $107{\mu}m$. The median for the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ crowns was found between 43.5 and $70{\mu}m$. The maximum values for all three groups ranged from $181{\mu}m$ to $286{\mu}m$. With $286{\mu}m$ the highest value for marginal gap was found in group C. the Kruskal-Wallis test and multiple comparisons analysis procedure revealed a significant influence of the production technique on the marginal fit in all three groups (p<0,02). Conclusion. 1. The $CELAY^{(R)}$ system is capable to produce all-ceramic crowns with a significantly better marginal fit than the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system. 2. As far as premolar crowns produced with the $CEREC^{(R)}2$ system are concerned, the cutting depth has a significant influence on fitting accuracy. 3. The production of crowns with an acceptable marginal fit is possible with both systems. However, adhesive luting is recommended for milled feldspathic porcelain crowns.

  • Purpose: This article attempted to determine the factors affecting the preload and screw loosening. Methods: Available clinical studies from 1981 to 2008 from the PUBMED that presented screw loosening data and review articles regarding screw joint stability were evaluated. Eleven studies dealing the biomechanical principles of the screw mechanics were reviewed. Moreover, the results of our data were included. Results: The frequency of screw loosening was consequently reduced due to the advancement in torque tightening with torque wrench, screw material, coating technique for reducing the frictional force, and thread design, etc. If preload in the screw falls below a critical level, joint stability may be compromised, and the screw joint may fail clinically. The types of fatigue failure of screw were divided to adhesive wear, plastic deformation, and screw fracture. Conclusion: An optimum preload is essential to the success of the implant-abutment complex. To maintain optimum preload, using a torque wrench and re-tightening at recall time were needed.

  • Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are attractive material because of their superior electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Furthermore, their geometric features such as a large aspect ratio and a small radius of curvature at tip make them ideal for low-voltage field emission devices including backlight units of liquid crystal display, lighting lamps, X-ray source, microwave amplifiers, electron microscopes, etc. In field emission devices for display applications, the phosphor anode is positioned against the CNT emitters. In most case, light generated from the phosphor by electron bombardment passes through the anode front plate to reach observers. However, light is produced in a narrow depth of the surface of the phosphor layer because phosphor particles are big as much as several micrometers, which means that it is necessary to transmit through the phosphor layer. Hence, a drop of light intensity is unavoidable during this process. In this study, we fabricated a transparent cathode back plate by depositing an ultra-thin film of single walled CNTs (SWCNTs) on an indium tin oxide (ITO)-coated glass substrate. Two types of phosphor anode plates were employed to our transparent cathode back plate: One is an ITO glass substrate with a phosphor layer and the other is a Cr-coated glass substrate with phosphor layer. For the former case, light was radiated from both the front and the back sides, where luminance on the back was ~30% higher than that on the front in our experiments. For the other case, however, light was emitted only from the cathode back side as the Cr layer on the anode glass rolled as a reflecting mirror, improving the light luminance as much as ~60% compared with that on the front of one. This study seems to be discussed about the morphologies and field emission characteristics of CNT emitters according to the experimental parameters in fabricating the lamps emitting light on the both sides or only on the cathode back side. The experimental procedures are as follows. First, a CNT aqueous solution was prepared by ultrasonically dispersing purified SWCNTs in deionized water with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). A milliliter or even several tens of micro-liters of CNT solution was deposited onto a porous alumina membrane through vacuum filtration. Thereafter, the alumina membrane was solvated with the 3 M NaOH solution and the floating CNT film was easily transferred to an ITO glass substrate. It is required for CNT film to make standing CNTs up to serve as electron emitter through an adhesive roller activation.

  • The effect of moistening and air-drying of acid-conditioned dentin before priming on the formation of resin-dentin hybrid zone was investigated, Freshly extracted human molars were used and divided at random into 5 groups, Groups 1 - 3 consisted of specimens conditioned with 10 % phosphoric acid for 20 seconds; Group 1 served as a control in which the conditioned dentin was simply blot-dried with a damp facial tissue; Group 2 was air dried for 30 seconds ; Group 3 was air dried for 30 seconds and immediately remoistened for 10 seconds with air-water syringe. and then the specimen was blot-dried with a damp facial tissue. Groups 4-5 were not acid conditioned ; In group 4, the smear layer on the dentin was blot dried before primer placement; Group 5 was air dried only for 30 seconds, The acetone-based primer and bonding agent of All Bond 2 (Bisco. Inc., USA) and composite resin (Z-100, 3M Dental products, USA) were applied for acid conditioned dentin and non-conditioned dentin. The morphologic ultrastructure of resin-dentin hybrid zone was examined by the use of SEM and TEM. and the existence of inorganic material and analysis of Ca/P weight-percent ratio in the resin-dentin hybrid zone were revealed by the EDAX, The results were as follows : 1. In the moistened specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 3-$4{\mu}m$ into dentin and the denatured collagen smear layer was not present at the surface. The resin tag was formed to a thickeness of 3-$4{\mu}m$ at the upper part of dentinal tubule and compactively connected to each other by means of many lateral branching. 2. In the air-dried specimens from acid-conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5\;{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper thin black layer to a thickness of 30-35nm was identified between adhesive resin and demineralized collagen layer. The resin tag to have a diameter of $2.5{\mu}m$ was formed at the upper part of dentinal tubule. However the funnel shape of the tag was not notable compared to the moistened specimens. 3. In the remoistened specimens from acid conditioned groups, the resin penetrated about 2.0-$2.5{\mu}m$ into dentin and an upper black layer was not present. The resin tag at the upper part of dentinal tubule was formed less than $2{\mu}m$ and was weakly connected to each other by means of few lateral branching. 4. In the non-conditioned groups, the smear layer was formed to a thickness of $0.5{\mu}m$ at dentin surface. However, the resin-dentin hybrid zone was not identified by TEM. The evidence of resin penetration into intertubular and intratubular dentin did not show. 5. All the acid-conditioned groups showed that the detected calcium and phosphorus weight percent ratios at the $2{\mu}m$ upper portion from the resin-dentin interface into the resin were much higher than that at the $2{\mu}m$ lower portion from the resin-dentin interface to dentin. • Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the push-out bond strengths of resin cement/fiber post systems to post space dentin using different application methods of resin cement. Materials and Methods: Thirty extracted human premolars were selected and randomly divided into 3 groups according to the technique used to place the cement into root canal: using lentulo-spiral instrument (group Lentulo), applying the cement onto the post surface (group Direct), and injecting the material using a specific elongation tip (group Elongation tip). After shaping and filling of the root canal, post space was drilled using Rely-X post drill. Rely-X fiber post was seated using Rely-X Unicem and resin cement was light polymerized. The root specimens were embedded in an acrylic resin and the specimens were sectioned perpendicularly to the long axis using a low-speed saw. Three slices per each root containing cross-sections of coronal, middle and apical part of the bonded fiber posts were obtained by sectioning. The push-out bond strength was measured using Universal Testing Machine. Specimens after bond failure were examined using operating microscope to evaluate the failure modes. Results: Push-out bond strengths were statistically influenced by the root regions. Group using the elongation tip showed significantly higher bond strength than other ways. Most failures occurred at the cement/dentin interface or in a mixed mode. Conclusions: The use of an elongation tip seems to reduce the number of imperfections within the selfadhesive cement interface compared to the techniques such as direct applying with the post and lentulospiral technique.

  • In the present study, safe management and value improvement of bamboo sunblind, which is an item of cultural heritage, were performed by adopting stable conservation treatment methods. The bamboo sunblind used in the present study was excavated from No. 1 catchment site in Baesanseongji, Busan. It was determined that the main material used to make the sunblind was bamboo, and herbal plants were used to weave the bamboo using lacquer as an adhesive agent. All contaminants and soil adhered to the sunblind was removed. Thereafter, the sunblind, which was recovered in the form of blocks, was washed separately after fixing it to a temporary plaster frame and to avoid the blocks from breaking during washing. Then, polyethylene glycol (PEG) impregnation was utilized for the reinforcement treatment. Based on the preliminary test results, the shape of the sunblind was fixed using a stainless-steel frame to prevent physical damage that may occur during the drying process. Thereafter, the bamboo sunblind was vacuum freeze-dried. PEG 20% (in ethyl alcohol) was applied as a surface treatment agent for stabilization the sunblind. After the surface treatment, the bamboo sunblind were joined together to fit the maximum width, and the rectangular shape of the sunblind was restored-as best as possible-while filling in the missing parts by maximizing the use of unknown members such as in the disturbed layers below bamboo sunblind surface. The conservation treatment was completed by fixing the bamboo sunblind into the fabricated frame.
