  • The paper aims at illustrating several key issues and ongoing efforts for development of a reliable fully-Lagrangian particle-based solver for simulation of hydroelastic slamming. Fluid model is founded on the solution of Navier-Stokes along with continuity equations via an enhanced version of a projection-based particle method, namely, Moving Particle Semi-implicit (MPS) method. The fluid model is carefully coupled with a structure model on the basis of conservation of linear and angular momenta for an elastic solid. The developed coupled FSI (Fluid-Structure Interaction) solver is applied to simulations of high velocity impact of an elastic aluminum wedge and hydroelastic slammings of marine panels. Validations are made both qualitatively and quantitatively in terms of reproduced pressure as well as structure deformation. Several remaining challenges as well as important key issues are highlighted. At last, a recently developed multi-scale MPS method is incorporated in the developed FSI solver towards enhancement of its adaptivity.

  • This paper presents an approach to enable a typical GPS receiver to be much less susceptible to intentional disruption such as jamming and change in link environment. In order for the GPS receiver to cope with jamming and to get adaptivity, a $4{\times}4$ beamforming antenna is designed using metamaterials. The design results show the antenna gain much higher than 5 dBi and the movable beam.

  • This paper introduces orthogonally multiplexed modulation and demodulation methods based on Wavelet Packet Bases and particularly describes Wavelet Packet Modulation (WPM) techniques that provide the designer of transmission signal set in time-frequency domain with tree structural information which can be adapted to given channel characterristics. Multi-dimensional signaling methods are also contrasted to common and different characteristics of conventional QAM. multi-tone modulation methods. The paper addresses the mothod how to find a best tree structure that has more adaptivity to impulse and narrowband tone pulse noises using a tunning algorithm which arbitrarily partitions the time-frequency space and makes a suitable orthogonal signaling waveforms. Simulation results exhibits a favorable performance over existing mod/demod methods specially for narrowband tone pulse and impulse interferences.

  • In this paper, an informed watermarking algorithm is proposed that aids in concealing packet loss errors in video communications. This watermark-based error concealment (WEC) method embeds a low resolution version of the video frame inside itself as watermark data. At the receiver, the extracted watermark is used as a reference for error concealment. The proposed DCT-based algorithm employs informed watermarking techniques in order to minimize the distortion of host frames. At the encoder, a predictive feedback loop is employed which helps to adjust the strength of the data embedding. Furthermore, the distortion of the DCT coefficients introduced in the embedding can be removed to a considerable extent, by employing bit-sign adaptivity. Simulation results on standard video sequences show that the proposed informed WEC scheme has an advantage of 3$\sim$4 dB in PSNR over non-informed WEC and that even a non-informed WEC is still superior to conventional error concealment techniques.

  • To improve the resolution of complex flow field features, grid adaptation scheme of Anderson has been revised, which was based on the Poisson grid generator of Thompson. Anderson's original scheme adapts the grid to solution automatically, but if flow field is more or less complex, then the adaptivity is weak. So the technique of using threshold which is used in unstructured grid system is adopted. The regions of large variation in the solution are marked by marking function which has the property of total variation of the solution, and these regions have same values of weight but other regions are neglected. This updated method captures shocks clearly and sharpy. Four examples are demonstrated, (1) Hypersonic flow past a blunt body, (2) High speed inlet analysis, (3) Supersonic flow of M=1.4 over a 4% biconvex airfoil in a channel, (4) Hypersonic shock-on-shock interaction at M=8.03.

  • This paper summarizes the components of an explicit aeroelastic solver developed especially for the simulation of dynamic fracture events occurring during the flight of solid propellant rockets. The numerical method combines an explicit Arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) version of the Cohesive Volumetric Finite Element (CVFE) scheme, used to simulate the spontaneous motion of one or more cracks propagating dynamically through a domain with regressing boundaries, and an explicit unstructured finite volume Euler code to follow the flow field during the failure event. A key feature of the algorithm is the ability to adaptively repair and expand the fluid mesh to handle the large geometrical changes associated with grain deformation and crack motion.

  • In this paper the adaptive crack propagation analysis based on the estimated local and global error in the element-free Galerkin (EFG) method is presented. It is possible to keep consistency and accuracy of analysis in each propagation step by adaptive analysis. The adaptivity analysis in crack propagation is achieved by adding and removing the node along the background integration cell that are refined or recovered as estimated error. These errors are obtained by calculating the difference between the values of the projected stresses and original EFG stresses. To evaluate the performance of proposed adaptive procedure, the convergence behavior is investigated lot several examples. The results of these examples show the efficiency of proposed scheme in crack propagation analysis.

  • Wide operating range and speed control is needed for wind power generating and a Doubly Fed Induction Generator(DFIG) has good adaptivity for that purpose. This paper deals with power and power factor control using the Grid connected DFIG in the wide speed regions, by controlling frequency and voltage fed to the rotor. Power flow of the DFIG and steady-state algebraic equations of the equivalent circuit are analyzed. For a normal operating region, in which the generator ratings were not exceeded, the rotor current was either less than or equal to the rated value. Accordingly, the optimal power factor can be selected relative to the permissible rated current at the rotor coil which controls the magnitude of the injected rotor voltage to the rotor according to a given rotor frequency.

  • This paper presented an investigation of macromolecular suspension in a grooved channel by using the dissipative particle dynamics (DPD) with finitely extensible non-linear elastic (FENE) bead spring chains model. Before studying the movement and evolution of macromolecules, the DPD method was first validated by modeling the simple fluid flow in the grooved channel. For both simple fluid flow and macromolecular suspension, the flow fields were analyzed in detail. It is found that the structure of the grooved channel with sudden contraction and expansion strongly affects the velocity distribution. As the width of the channel reduces, the horizontal velocity increases simultaneously. Vortices can also be found at the top and bottom corners behind the contraction section. For macromolecular suspension, the macromolecular chains influence velocity and density distribution rather than the temperature and pressure. Macromolecules tend to drag simple fluid particles, reducing the velocity with density and velocity fluctuations. Particle trajectories and evolution of macromolecular conformation were investigated. The structure of the grooved channel with sudden contraction and expansion significantly influence the evolution of macromolecular conformation, while macromolecules display adaptivity to adjust their own conformation and angle to suit the structure so as to pass the channel smoothly.

  • In this Paper, the training principles and the control method of adaptive array antennas using the LMS and CMA algorithms for the $\pi$/4 QPSK signal is showed and the convergence characteristics, the adaptivity of directional pattern SINR and the replication of desired signal of adaptive arrays are compared and discussed each other. Computer simulation results showed that the SINR of LMS adaptive array was 13.8[dB], and that of CMA was 12.8[dB], and also the convergence characteristics of LMS was fast a little than that of CMA. The LMS adaptive array was also performed null point well for the interference signal direction than that of the CMA adaptive array.
