This study illustrated the process of bar structure and vegetation coverage to understand historical changes of riverbed and suppose adaptive management in Tan-chun ecological landscape reserve. The study site that lower reach of the Tan-chun are known as habitats of migratory bird and aquatic species with dynamic riverbed. Aerial photos from 2006 to 2016 and surveyed vegetation data in 2006 and 2016 were used by analysis of landscape changes and comparison of vegetation coverage. Study area is classified into 3 sites (A: straight site, B: meandering site, C: meandering and junction with Yangjae-cheon). The result showed that bar area of A and C sites gradually increased, B site decreased during 10 years. Also, ratio of bar area to vegetation coverage and level of vegetation coverage increased in all sites during 10 years. All sites seem to have experienced the terrestrialization with time. On the other hand, ratio of annual vegetation increased and ratio of perennial vegetation decreased in C site in 2016 compare to 2006. Because area of Japanese Hops (Humulus japonicas) as one type of annual vegetation increased, other vegetation could not grow up by its powerful expandability. It is time to make active adaptive management based on not only continuos monitoring but also revaluation of river conditions in order to enhance habitat quality and quantity in Tan-chun ecological landscape reserve.
An abrupt increase of traffic-load in cellular CDMA systems can cause overload and degrade the quality of service (QoS) due to the insufficient radio resources. In this paper, we propose a joint coverage and resource management (JCRM) scheme which can improve the QoS degradation and spectrum utilization. The JCRM scheme hands over overloaded traffic to the neighboring cells by virtually reducing a heavily loaded cell coverage and allocates radio resources based on the necessary handover probability. The proposed scheme can be applied to the existing cellular CDMA systems as well as adaptive coverage management schemes for next generation mobile communication systems.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive Relay Station (RS) coverage extension scheme for the Mobile Multi-hop Relay (MMR) systems. The MMR system with a non-transparent mode RS can be used to extend BS coverage using the remaining capacity of the Base Station(BS). Thus, the call blocking may occur in RSs when calls arrive very often in Multi-hop Relay Base Station (MR-BS). In the proposed scheme, RSs can be connected to the neighbor MMR system as the 2ndtier RSs if the neighbor MMR system services low traffic load when calls are frequently arrived in MR-BS or RSs. By doing so, the MMR system can accept a new call without call blocking. Through numerical results, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional MMR system in terms of the throughput and call blocking probability of MMR systems.
Although low spatial resolution satellite images like MODIS and GOCI can be important to observe land surface, it is often difficult to visually interpret the imagery because of the low contrast by prevailing cloud covers. We proposed a simple and adaptive stretching algorithm to enhance image contrast over land areas in cloudy images. The proposed method is basically a linear algorithm that stretches only non-cloud pixels. The adaptive linear stretch method uses two values: the low limit (L) from image statistics and upper limit (U) from low boundary value of cloud pixels. The cloud pixel value was automatically determined by pre-developed empirical function for each spectral band. We used MODIS and GOCI images having various types of cloud distributions and coverage. The adaptive contrast stretching method was evaluated by both visual interpretation and statistical distribution of displayed brightness values.

Subjects on one side of the covariate population can be allocated to the inferior treatment when there is interaction between the covariate and treatment along with a response-adaptive (RA) design without covariate adjustment. An RA design allows a newly entered subject to have a better chance so that the subject is treated by a superior treatment based on cumulative information from previous subjects. A covariate-adjusted response-adaptive (CARA) is the same as RA design and additionally adjusts the allocation based on individual covariate information. A comparison has been made for the sequential estimation procedure with and without covariate adjustment to see how ignoring significantly interactive covariate affects the correct treatment allocation. Using logistic models, we present simulation results regarding the coverage probability of treatment effect, correct allocation, and stopping time.
Multi-hop relay networks have been widely considered as a promising solution to extend the coverage area and to reduce the deployment cost by deploying the relay stations (RSs) in mobile communication systems. Suitable deployment for the RSs is one of the most important features of the demand nodes (DNs) to obtain a high data transmission rate in such systems. Considering a tradeoff among the network throughput, the deployment budget, and the overall coverage of the systems, efficient RS deployment schemes and corresponding algorithms must be developed and designed. A novel cluster-based RS deployment scheme is proposed in this paper to select the appropriate deployment locations for the relay stations from the candidate positions. To make an ideal cluster distribution, the distances between the DNs are calculated when deploying the RSs. We take into account the traffic demands and adopt a uniform cluster concept to reduce the data transmission distances of the DNs. On the basis of the different candidate positions, the proposed scheme makes an adaptive decision for selecting the deployment sites of the RSs. A better network throughput and coverage ratio can be obtained by balancing the network load among the clusters. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the previously known schemes in terms of the network throughput and the coverage ratio. Additionally, a suitable deployment budget can be implemented in multi-hop relay networks.

Time division wireless communication in tactical MANET is attractive to deliver both high data rates and long-range coverage, and to provide scheduled QoS to mission participants. This paper is about the time synchronization issue of multi-mission USV in tactical MANET. As USV communication coverage becomes longer, the synchronization error also becomes higher; therefore, which results in link disconnection, and consequent failures of reconnection because base station cannot configure necessary parameters over long-distant terminal. We propose a range adaptive time synchronization method to compensate for synchronization errors. The issue of long-range time synchronization problem was identified during maritime communication tests, and we verified the proposed method through analyses of both indoor and outdoor test results.

This paper proposes an adaptive modulation based incremental hop selection scheme which improves network coverage in half-duplex multi-hop networks. The proposed scheme guarantees wide coverage through the operation of multi-hop network while preventing spectral efficiency loss due to the usage of multiple time phases in the half-duplex protocol. Also, we evaluate the average spectral efficiency performance over Nakagami-m fading channel. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme outperforms the existing schemes and the derived evaluation is valid.
This paper proposes an energy efficient adaptive relay station ON/OFF scheme with different frequency reuse factors (FRFs) to enhance the system throughput and reduce the transmission energy consumption for the transparent mode of 2-hop cellular relay networks (CRNs) based on orthogonal frequency division multiple access and time division duplex. In the proposed scheme, the base station turns on or off the relay stations (RSs) when they are overutilized and undertuilized based on the traffic density of the cell coverage, respectively. Through the simulation results, we show that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional CRN in terms of the energy consumption with the same system throughput. Further, in order to increase the system throughput with low energy consumption, the best way is FRF 1 when the number of operating RSs is up to 4 and FRF 2 otherwise.
