  • In this paper, we propose a three-level color clustering algerian for the binarization of text regions extracted from natural scene images. The proposed algorithm consists of three phases of color segmentation. First, the ordinary images in which the texts are well separated from the background, are binarized. Then, in the second phase, the input image is passed through a high pass filter to deal with those affected by natural or artificial light. Finally, the image Is passed through a low pass filter to deal with the texture in texts and/or background. We have shown that the proposed algorithm is more effective used gray-information binarization algorithm. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm we use a commercial OCR software ARMI 6.0 to observe the recognition accuracies on the binarized images. The experimental results on word and character recognition show that the proposed approach is more accurate than conventional methods by over $35\%$.

  • Recent advances in wireless communication technology promotes many researches related to sensor network and brings several proposals to fit into various types of sensor network communication. The research direction for sensor network is divided into the method to maximize an energy efficiency and security researches that has not been remarkable so far. To maximize an energy efficiency, the methods to support data aggregation and cluster-head selection algorithm are proposed. To strengthen the security, the methods to support encryption techniques and manage a secret key that is applicable to sensor network are proposed, In. However, the combined method to satisfy both energy efficiency and security is in the shell. This paper is devoted to design the protocol that combines an efficient clustering protocol with key management algorithm that is fit into various types of sensor network communication. This protocol may be applied to sensor network systems that deal with sensitive data.

  • In decision support system, knowledge workers require aggregation operations of the large data and are more interested in the trend analysis rather than in the punctual analysis. Therefore, it is necessary to provide fast approximate answers rather than exact answers, and to research approximate query answering techniques. In this paper, we propose a new approximation query answering method which is based on Fuzzy C-means clustering (FCM) method and Adaptive Neuro-Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS). The proposed method using FCM-ANFIS can compute aggregate queries without accessing massive multidimensional data cube by producing the KR model of multidimensional data cube. In our experiments, we show that our method using the KR model outperforms the NMF method.

  • In this paper, we first propose a power-and-bandwidth efficient cooperative transmission protocol where a sensor node assists two others for their data transmission to a clusterhead in WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) using LEACH (Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy). Then we derive its closed-form BER expression which Is also a general BER one for the decode-and-forward protocol (DF) and Prove that the proposed protocol performs as same as the conventional DF but obtains higher spectral efficiency. A variety of numerical results reveal the cooperation can save the network power up to 11dB over direct transmission at BER of $10^{-3}$.

  • The paper concerns the hybrid optimization of fuzzy inference systems that is based on Hierarchical Fair Competition-based Parallel Genetic Algorithms (HFCGA) and information data granulation. The granulation is realized with the aid of the Hard C-means clustering and HFCGA is a kind of multi-populations of Parallel Genetic Algorithms (PGA), and it is used for structure optimization and parameter identification of fuzzy model. It concerns the fuzzy model-related parameters such as the number of input variables to be used, a collection of specific subset of input variables, the number of membership functions, the order of polynomial, and the apexes of the membership function. In the hybrid optimization process, two general optimization mechanisms are explored. Thestructural optimization is realized via HFCGA and HCM method whereas in case of the parametric optimization we proceed with a standard least square method as well as HFCGA method as well. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed algorithm is superior to the conventional methods.

  • This paper presents an efficient user-cooperation protocol associated with cyclic coding for WSNs (Wireless Sensor Networks) using LEACH(Low-Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy). Since the proposed user-cooperation requires no CSI(Channel State Information) at both transmitter and receiver, and encoding and decoding of cyclic codes are simple, the processing complexity of sensor nodes is significantly reduced. Simulation results reveal such a combination can save the network energy up to 10dB over single-hop transmission at BER of $10^{-4}$.

  • Due to uncertainties in target motion and randomness of deployed sensor nodes, the problem of imbalance of energy consumption arises from sensor scheduling. This paper presents an energy-efficient adaptive sensor scheduling for a target monitoring algorithm in a local monitoring region of wireless sensor networks. Owing to excessive scheduling of an individual node, one node with a high value generated by a decision function is preferentially selected as a tasking node to balance the local energy consumption of a dynamic clustering, and the node with the highest value is chosen as the cluster head. Others with lower ones are in reserve. In addition, an optimization problem is derived to satisfy the problem of sensor scheduling subject to the joint detection probability for tasking sensors. Particles of the target in particle filter algorithm are resampled for a higher tracking accuracy. Simulation results show this algorithm can improve the required tracking accuracy, and nodes are efficiently scheduled. Hence, there is a 41.67% savings in energy consumption.

  • Recent years, the use of multimedia information is rapidly increasing, and the video media is the most rising one than any others, and this field Integrates all the media into a single data stream. Though the availability of digital video is raised largely, it is very difficult for users to make the effective video access, due to its length and unstructured video format. Thus, the minimal interaction of users and the explicit definition of video structure is a key requirement in the lately developing image and video management systems. This paper defines the terms and hierarchical video structure, and presents the system, which construct the clustering-based video hierarchy, which facilitate users by browsing the summary and do a random access to the video content. Instead of using a single feature and domain-specific thresholds, we use multiple features that have complementary relationship for each other and clustering-based methods that use normalization so as to interact with users minimally. The stage of shot boundary detection extracts multiple features, performs the adaptive filtering process for each features to enhance the performance by eliminating the false factors, and does k-means clustering with two classes. The shot list of a result after the proposed procedure is represented as the video hierarchy by the intelligent unsupervised clustering technique. We experimented the static and the dynamic movie videos that represent characteristics of various video types. In the result of shot boundary detection, we had almost more than 95% good performance, and had also rood result in the video hierarchy.

  • A data stream is a massive unbounded sequence of data elements continuously generated at a rapid rate. Due to this reason, memory usage for data stream analysis should be confined finitely although new data elements are continuously generated in a data stream. To satisfy this requirement, data stream processing sacrifices the correctness of its analysis result by allowing some errors. The old distribution statistics are diminished by a predefined decay rate as time goes by, so that the effect of the obsolete information on the current result of clustering can be eliminated without maintaining any data element physically. This paper proposes a grid based clustering algorithm for a data stream. Given a set of initial grid cells, the dense range of a grid cell is recursively partitioned into a smaller cell based on the distribution statistics of data elements by a top down manner until the smallest cell, called a unit cell, is identified. Since only the distribution statistics of data elements are maintained by dynamically partitioned grid cells, the clusters of a data stream can be effectively found without maintaining the data elements physically. Furthermore, the memory usage of the proposed algorithm is adjusted adaptively to the size of confined memory space by flexibly resizing the size of a unit cell. As a result, the confined memory space can be fully utilized to generate the result of clustering as accurately as possible. The proposed algorithm is analyzed by a series of experiments to identify its various characteristics

  • With the explosive growth in the volume of information, Internet users are experiencing considerable difficulties in obtaining necessary information online. Against this backdrop, ever-greater importance is being placed on a recommender system that provides information catered to user preferences and tastes in an attempt to address issues associated with information overload. To this end, a number of techniques have been proposed, including content-based filtering (CBF), demographic filtering (DF) and collaborative filtering (CF). Among them, CBF and DF require external information and thus cannot be applied to a variety of domains. CF, on the other hand, is widely used since it is relatively free from the domain constraint. The CF technique is broadly classified into memory-based CF, model-based CF and hybrid CF. Model-based CF addresses the drawbacks of CF by considering the Bayesian model, clustering model or dependency network model. This filtering technique not only improves the sparsity and scalability issues but also boosts predictive performance. However, it involves expensive model-building and results in a tradeoff between performance and scalability. Such tradeoff is attributed to reduced coverage, which is a type of sparsity issues. In addition, expensive model-building may lead to performance instability since changes in the domain environment cannot be immediately incorporated into the model due to high costs involved. Cumulative changes in the domain environment that have failed to be reflected eventually undermine system performance. This study incorporates the Markov model of transition probabilities and the concept of fuzzy clustering with CBCF to propose predictive clustering-based CF (PCCF) that solves the issues of reduced coverage and of unstable performance. The method improves performance instability by tracking the changes in user preferences and bridging the gap between the static model and dynamic users. Furthermore, the issue of reduced coverage also improves by expanding the coverage based on transition probabilities and clustering probabilities. The proposed method consists of four processes. First, user preferences are normalized in preference clustering. Second, changes in user preferences are detected from review score entries during preference transition detection. Third, user propensities are normalized using patterns of changes (propensities) in user preferences in propensity clustering. Lastly, the preference prediction model is developed to predict user preferences for items during preference prediction. The proposed method has been validated by testing the robustness of performance instability and scalability-performance tradeoff. The initial test compared and analyzed the performance of individual recommender systems each enabled by IBCF, CBCF, ICFEC and PCCF under an environment where data sparsity had been minimized. The following test adjusted the optimal number of clusters in CBCF, ICFEC and PCCF for a comparative analysis of subsequent changes in the system performance. The test results revealed that the suggested method produced insignificant improvement in performance in comparison with the existing techniques. In addition, it failed to achieve significant improvement in the standard deviation that indicates the degree of data fluctuation. Notwithstanding, it resulted in marked improvement over the existing techniques in terms of range that indicates the level of performance fluctuation. The level of performance fluctuation before and after the model generation improved by 51.31% in the initial test. Then in the following test, there has been 36.05% improvement in the level of performance fluctuation driven by the changes in the number of clusters. This signifies that the proposed method, despite the slight performance improvement, clearly offers better performance stability compared to the existing techniques. Further research on this study will be directed toward enhancing the recommendation performance that failed to demonstrate significant improvement over the existing techniques. The future research will consider the introduction of a high-dimensional parameter-free clustering algorithm or deep learning-based model in order to improve performance in recommendations.
