The use of scalable video coding scheme has been regarded as a promising solution for guaranteeing the quality of service of the video streaming over the Internet because it is a capable coding scheme to perform quality adaptation depending on network conditions. In this paper, we use a streaming model that transmits base layer using TCP and enhancement layers using DCCP, which try to provide transmission reliability of the BL and TCP friendliness. Unlike pervious works, the proposed algorithm performs rate adaptation based on playout buffer status. The PoB status of the client is sent back periodically to the server and serves as a network congestion indicator. Experimental results show that our scheme improves streaming quality comparing with pervious scheme in the case of not only constant/dynamic background flows but also VBR-encoded video sequence.

It becomes enabled to provide variety of multimedia contents through mobile service with the development of high-speed 3rd generation mobile communication and handsets. MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) can be displayed in the presentation format which is unified the various multimedia contents such as text, audio, image, video, etc. It is applicable as a new type of ubiquitous learning. In this study we propose to design a mobile learning system by providing profiles which meets the standard of CC/PP and by generating multimedia messages based on SMIL language through the adaptation steps according to the learning environment, the content type, and the device property of learners.

This study investigated the relationship between business-to-business service quality and loyalty by applying the IMP (International/Industrial Marketing and Purchasing Group) model. The study found that six dimensions of service quality which were product exchange, financial exchange, information exchange, social exchange, cooperation, and adaptation explained B2B service quality very well. More specifically, the study found that service quality dimensions of social exchange, cooperation, and adaptation were more important than those of product exchange, financial exchange, and information exchange. The study also found a positive relationship between service quality and loyalty. In fact, organizational buyers appeared to show greater loyalty as they perceived service quality better.

이 연구는 외국인 유학생을 적극적인 커뮤니케이션이 필요한 공중으로 보고, 대학-유학생 관계성의 선행변인(교수역량 서비스, 행정서비스), 결과변인(대학생활 적응) 사이의 인과관계를 분석하였다. 분석 결과, 교수역량 서비스와 행정서비스 모두 대학-유학생 관계성에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 대학-유학생 관계성은 대학생활 적응에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 대학PR의 관점에서 대학-유학생 관계성을 주요한 성과지표로 설정하고, 적극적인 커뮤니케이션 전략 및 메시지 개발을 위한 노력이 필요하다는 점을 논의하였다.

This paper describes the SVC-based media adaptation system which can adapt video contents optimally to various consumption environments in an IP-based transmission scenario. As key technologies, we will present scalable video coding, SVC-based adaptive media transmission, and SVC-based adaptation signaling technology.

Content adaptation is an effective solution to support the quality of service over multimedia services over heterogeneous environments. This paper deals with the accuracy and the real-time requirement, two important issues in making decision on content adaptation. From our previous problem formulation, we propose an optimal algorithm and a fast approximation based on the Viterbi algorithm of dynamic programming. Through extensive experiments, we show that the proposed algorithms can enable accurate adaptation decisions, and especially they can support the real-time processing.

Video adaptation in response to dynamic resource conditions and user preferences is required as a key technology to enable universal multimedia access (UMA) through heterogeneous networks by a multitude of devices in a seamless way. Although many adaptation techniques exist, selections of appropriate adaptations among multiple choices are often ad hoc. To provide a systematic solution, we present a general conceptual framework to model video entity, adaptation, resource, utility, and relations among them. It allows for formulation of various adaptation problems as resource-constrained utility maximization. We apply the framework to a practical case of dynamic bit rate adaptation. Furthermore, we present a description tool, which has been accepted as a part of the MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA), along with a brief overview of the .elated descriptors to support terminal and network quality of service (QoS).

The adaptation of video according to the heterogeneous and dynamic resource constraints on networks and devices, as well as on user preferences, is a promising approach for universal access and consumption of video content. For optimal adaptation that satisfies the constraints while maximizing the utility that results from the adapted video, it is necessary to devise a systematic way of selecting an appropriate adaptation operation among multiple feasible choices. This paper presents a general conceptual framework that allows the formulation of various adaptations as constrained optimization problems by modeling the relations among feasible adaptation operations, constraints, and utilities. In particular, we present the feasibility of the framework by applying it to a use case of rate adaptation of MPEG-4 video with an explicit modeling of adaptation employing a combination of frame dropping and discrete cosine transform coefficient dropping, constraint, utility, and their mapping relations. Furthermore, we provide a description tool that describes the adaptation-constraint-utility relations as a functional form referred to as a utility function, which has been accepted as a part of the terminal and network quality of service tool in MPEG-21 Digital Item Adaptation (DIA).

유비쿼터스 환경에서의 응용은 사용자의 요구사항 변경과 사용자의 서비스 환경 변화를 적응시킴으로써 사용자에게 최선의 서비스를 제공할 수 있어야 하며 상황 변화에 따른 하부 플랫폼의 동작에 서비스의 동작을 적응시킬 수 있어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 유비쿼터스 컴퓨팅 환경에서 사용자의 요구사항을 능동적으로 반영하고 사용자에게 유연한 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 상황 변화에 대한 동적인 응용 적응성을 지원하는 2-레벨 상황 적응 기법을 제안한다. 상황 적응성을 지원하기 위하여 상황의 범위를 사용자 요구사항으로 확대하여 응용 서비스 제공에 있어서 사용자의 선호도를 반영할 수 있도록 하였으며. 응용의 적응성은 적응 정책을 사용하여 발생할 수 있는 특정 상황에 대한 적응 방법을 명시적으로 요구함으로써 실제 상황이 발생했을 때 응용이 능동적으로 대처할 수 있도록 하였다.

무선랜 환경에서 효율적인 비디오 스트리밍 서비스를 제공하기 위해서, 네트워크 하위 계층은 무선 채널의 상태 변화에 적응적으로 전송모드를 조절할 수 있어야 하며, 상위 계층의 비디오 스트리밍 응용은 선택된 전송모드에 따라 적절히 서비스되는 비디오 스트림의 품질을 조절할 수 있어야 한다. 상대적으로 높은 대역폭을 요구하는 비디오 스트리밍 응용을 위해서 본 논문에서는 새로운 전송률 적응기법을 포함하는 크로스레이어 디자인을 제안한다. 제안하는 새로운 전송률 적응기법은 연속적인 프레임 전송을 통해 무선 채널의 대역폭을 보다 효율적으로 사용하며, 전송모드별 Goodput 계산을 통해 최적의 성능을 보이는 전송모드를 선택하게 된다. 선택된 전송모드를 기반으로 무선 채널의 한계 대역폭을 계산하며, 이를 상위 계층의 비디오 스트리밍 응용에 알려줌으로써 전송되는 비디오 스트림의 품질을 조절하게 된다. 즉, 네트워크 하위 계층과 상위 계층과의 연동을 통해 무선랜 환경에서 보다 효율적인 비디오 스트리밍 서비스를 제공할 수 있게 된다. 시뮬레이션을 이용한 성능 검증을 통해 제안하는 새로운 전송률 적응기법의 성능 향상을 검증하였으며 크로스레이어 디자인을 통해 비디오 스트리밍 서비스의 품질을 향상시킬 수 있음을 확인하였다.
