Objective : This study is performed to evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side by means of amperage measured from chong points. Methods : Among the outpatients with ankle sprain who visited to Department of Acupuncture & Maxibustion, Jaseng oriental medicine hospital from 21, December 2000 to 10, February 2001, we selected 11 persons who showed normal finding in the X-ray. They were divided into two groups. One group was treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side and the other was treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side. Before and after acupuncture, we measured the amperage from their chong points. We selected 10 persons who we thought they were healthy as a control group. We also measured the amperage from their chong points. Results : Between the control and the ankle sprain group, there were significant differences of differences between the amperages of Rt. chong point and Lt. thong point of the same name. Between the group treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side and the group treated with acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side, there were no significant differences of differences between the amperages of Rt. chong point and Lt. chong point of the same name. Conclusion : This result indicated that the acupuncture to acu-points in the painful side was not less effective than the acupuncture to acu-points in the normal side, and so the more study is needed continuously.
According to development of acu-figure which has been existed in Korea, China and Japan through successive generation and conservation status, I classified the process of manufacture of Standard Acu-Figure that is the first manufactured form in Korea historically. And conclusion was as follows. In history, the first acu-figure was manufactured in Song(宋) Dynasty by Wang Yu Il(王維一). after that acu-figure had been made various type in the each countries. In japan, Cheon Seong Acu-Figure(天聖銅人) was imported and preserved and similar shape acu-figure was manufactured. In Korea, Chim Geum Acu-Statue(鍼金銅像) is unique acu-figure that is conservated and exhibited in museum. Standard Acu-Figure was manufactured after the model of standard human body. First step process of standard acu-figure manufacture undertook at my lab, next step, investigation, discussion, reform was proceeded along with other chief professors major in meridian and acupuncture point.
This study assessed effects of magnetic acu-point therapy as an add-on to conventional antihypertensive managements such as medication or lifestyle modification for hypertensive or pre-hypertensive subjects. This study was conducted with the purpose to evaluate the decreasing effect of the blood pressure on the hypertensive patients who were given to magnetic acu-point therapy. A single-blind, placebo-controlled trial by cross matching was conducted at Daejeon University Oriental Hospital. The washout periods of cross matching are 10 days. 22 hypertensive (systolic BP>140 mmHg or diastolic BP>90 mmHg) volunteers were recruited and treatments were donemagnetic acu-points on Oegwan(TE 5), Jogimeup(GB 41), Naegwan(PC 6), Gongson(SP 4), Hugye(SI 3), Sinmaek(BL 62). The treated group was statistically significant decrease of the blood pressure, while control group show no statistically significant difference of BP. From the results, magnetic acu-point therapy seems to offer a benefit to the treatment of hypertensive patients.
Objective : The chonguinyoung pulse diagnosis method is convenient than twelve meridian pulse diagnosis method The $\ll$Maek-bup(脉法)$\gg$ are founded at Mawangtweo(馬王堆) of the han dynasty tomb in 1973, but it could diagnosis the exsitance of illness of twelve meridian also . Methods : In accordance to $\ll$Naekuoung(內經)$\gg$ inyoungmaek(人迎脈) in could be taken at the which is the pulse point of carotid artery on the line of foot yangmyoung stomach meridian (足陽明胃經) and chongumaek (寸口脈) at the taeyoun acu-point (太淵穴) pulse point on the line of hand taeyeun lung meridian (手太陰肺經). Results : Chonguinyoung pulse diagnosis method could be emphased on the point of diagnosing sick person and healthy person by the balance of yin (陰) yan (陽) composition in the body. Conclusion : Chonguinyoung pulse diagnosis method could be the indication of improvement and progress of disease also it could be adapt to diagnosis of twelve meridian and it is impossible to making choice of acupuncture, medication, moxibustion, vene-section and strengthing-eleminating treatment method (補瀉方法).
This study was undertaken to investigate the effect on the Cd accumulation in long-term Cd poisoned rats. 40 male weaning Sprague Dawley rats weighting 80-90g were divided into 4 groups (LCuLFeCd : low Cu, Fe and Cd group, ACuLFeCd : adequate Cu, low Fe and Cd group, ACuAFeCd : adequate Cu, adequate Fe and Cd group) according to Cu and Fe levels (Cu 0.5ppm, 8.5ppm : Fe 6ppm, 40ppm) for 12 weeks. There were no significant difference in water intake, feed intake, and body weight gain according to dietary Cu and Fe consumption. But the mean food intake and body weight gain of adequate Fe groups(LCuAFeCd, ACuAFeCd) were higher than those of deficient Fe groups (ACuLFeCd, LCuFeCd)in long-term Cd poisoned rats. The mean Cd levels of serum, liver, kidney, and urine in ACuAFeCd group were lower than those of Cu and /or Fe deficient groups. But the mean fecal Cd excretion of ACuAFeCd group was higher than that of Cu and/or Fe deficient groups. And the mean Cd retention amount of ACuAFeCd group was lower than those of Cu and/or Fe deficinet groups. In conclusion, these results provide an evidence that adequate Cu and Fe intakes can decrease Cd accumulation in rats. Therefore, in the point of increasing environmental Cd contamination, adequate Cu and Fe intakes must be suggested to prevent Cd accumulations.
Objective & Methods: In order to ascertain the names. locations. the way of getting acu-point and indications for moxibustion about Ko-Hwang(膏盲) and Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪). I have translated the text for Ko-Hwang(膏盲) and Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪) collected in several relative classical books. and performed literal investigation about it. Through the study, the following results are obtained. Results & Conclusions: 1. The two words Go(膏) and Hwang(盲) have different concepts each other originally. and Go-Hwang(膏盲) is the abbreviation of the words "Upon the Hwang(盲), Under the Go(膏)", which means "A gap of Heart and diaphragm" that is under the heart and on the diaphragm 2. Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪) is the acu-point which can treat the diseases located in the gap of Go(膏) and Hwang(盲), so they must not be named as Go-Hwang(膏盲) or Go-Hwang-Hyui(膏盲穴). 3. The origination of Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪) is speculated as the interval of Hwang-Bo-Mil(皇甫謐) and Son-Sa-Mak(孫思邈). And I think it had been created by Son-Sa-Mak(孫思邈) up to now. 4. The words "Four ribs and Three spaces(四肋三間)" those are founded in the text of The Entrance of Medicine(醫學入門) and The Great Success on Acupuncture and Moxibustion(針灸大成) are either the words those had been quoted from The Bible of Helping Life by Acupucture and Moxibustion(針灸資生經) in wrong way. or the misunderstanding of the original mind of Son-Sa-Mak(孫思邈) as being quoted in the text. So you should know it exactly as Son-Sa-Mak(孫思邈) had said. 5. When you search the acu-point Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪), you must pull the arms of patients forwardly to reveal the acu -point. because it is covered by the scapula in normal posture. 6. The indications for the use of Go-Hwang-Su(膏盲兪) are same as mentioned in this study. And it can grow the Yang-Gi(陽氣) more prosperous.
Objective : The meridian theory in oriental medicine explains that each acu-point has a characteristic functional effect. It will be supposed that an acupuncture stimulation on different acu-point evokes different activation on different areas in the central nervous system(CNS) according to the meridian theory. On this supposition, our group tried the semi-quantitative [14C]2-deoxyglucose([14C]2-DG) autoradiography on the acupuncture stimulation to the hindlimb acu-points of Sprague-Dawley rats. Methods : A venous catheter for the intravenous administration of isotope was equipped in the right external jugular vein on 3 days prior to the [14C]2-DG study. On the day of the study, two acupuncture needles were inserted into the ST36(Zusanli) or LR3(Taichong) on the left hindlimb. Electro-acupuncture stimulation (2 Hz, 5 ms, 1~3 mA, 15 minutes) started just before the i.v. injection of [14C]2-DG ($25{\mu}Ci/rat$). The brain and the spinal cord were removed and processed for the [14C] 2-DG autoradiography. Results : The EA stimulation on ST36 reveals over 120% metaboilc activation in Arcuate nucleus, Anterior pretectal nucleus, Dorsal cochlear nucleus, Interposed cerebellar nucleus, and Nucleus of Darkschewitsch. The EA stimulation on LR3 reveals over 120% metaboilc activation in Lateral habenula nucleus, Medial vestibular nucleus, Ventromedial thalamic nucleus, Anteroventral thalamic nucleus, Anterior cingulate cortex, Dentate gyrus, Antero cortical amygdaloid nucleus, Anterior pretectal nucleus, and Dorsal tegmental nucleus compared with the non EA stimulation control group. Conclusion : These results demonstrate that the different acu-points evoke the different activations in brain areas. And with this functional brain mapping study, a new scientific elucidation for the basis of the acupuncture-meridian theory in oriental medicine through differences of activated area in CNS according to the each acupuncture point.
It was the Study for more deep understanding about the Frozen shoulder by literature investigation. The following result were obtained. : 1. The reason of Frozen shoulder is inflamatory reaction, degeneration, continual fixing, injury, etc. 2. The symptom of Frozen shoulder is shoulder pain, night pain, limit of joint movement. 3. Frozen shoulder is classified primary and secondary types and in the oriental medicine, is classified six types by the three Yin&Yang channels of the hand 4. Jackin's exercise or codman's exercise is used for kinesiatrics. 5. $Ky\check{o}njong$(SI9), nosu(SI10), $ch'\check{o}njong$(SI11) are in commonly used acupuncture point. 6. It is used to the Tongbihanseungbang, Small-intestine jeong kyuck in SA-AM Acupuncture. 7. It is used to the TrPs of subscapularis in MPS. 8. It is used to Frozen shoulder the Sin-kwan, Sahwajung, etc. in Dong-si Acupuncture. 9. It is used the I, HO or HN to Frozen shoulder treatment in Herbal Acupuncture. 10. Using the Electro-acupuncture, we select the point according to the channels. 11. Cupping or Moxibustion is commonly used with Acupuncture. 12. Commonly used recipes are Seokyungtang, Oyacksungisan, Banhakumchultang, etc.
We have studied Bee Venom Therapy to treat Sequalae of Sprain, and obtained following results. 1. The treatment of sprain is using the effect of the affected part on Bee Venom Therapy. 2. For the treatment of sprain, it is often used the near acupuncture point of injury(近位取穴) or painful point to press(阿是穴). 3. Bee Venom Therapy is one of the powerful treatment, so we are using the sequalae of sprain in the case of not cured by Acupuncture, Cupping or another therapy. 4. Bee Venom injection is started a small quantity, and is increased slowly by degrees. 5. The immune response by Bee Venom Therapy is a sort of Allergy, and it is classified large delayed reaction. It is considered positive reaction. 6. We have selected Acupuncture Points from one to four by the degree of injury. 7. The period of treatment is some different from the degree of injury, but generally we have obtained good results to treat from 5 to 20 by Bee Venom Therapy.
Objective : Direct moxibustion applied on painful point of injured ligament, not acu-point, is effective method to treat acute pain and chronic weakness of injured ligaments. We recently experienced 3 case of sprain treated with direct moxibustion on painful point of ligaments. Methods : Patients who injured in lateral collated ligament, anterior talo-fibular ligament, and collateral ligament of finger were treated by direct moxibustion on tender points of injured ligaments. Results and conclusion : There was successful results that pain and ROM was improved. It seems that burns due to moxibustion facilitate repair of ligament and control inflammation.
