Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare obesity-related quality of life according to obesity classification by BMI (body mass index) and self-assessment. Methods: The participants were 286 female college students in J City. Data were obtained by measuring height. weight and BMI, and using a questionnaire for self-assessment of obesity, weight control, and quality of life. The quality of life was measured using 14 items of the Korean version of obesity-related quality of life (KOQOL). Results: Thirty five percent of the students assessed themselves as overweight and obese despite their BMI <$23m^2/kg$(false overweight). True overweight students with BMI $\geq23m^2/kg$ who perceived themselves as overweight and obese were 23%. The total KOQOL score between true and false overweight students showed no significant difference. True overweight students had a lower total KOQOL score including psychosocial, physical, daily living, sex related. and food-related domains than true normal weight students. Conclusions: The quality of life was not different between true and false overweight students. These results indicate that self-assessment about obesity affects the quality of life like as actual BMI in female college students. Therefore, it is necessary to care students who distort themselves as obese.
This study was carried out to investigate misconception for physique and desire for physique of college women in Taegu(412 subjects) and Fukuoka(423 subjects). The data was collected by questionnaire interview and anthropometric measurement. The results were as follows : The mean age, height, weight, and BMI of Taegu subjects were $19.9{\pm}1.2$ years old, $159.6{\pm}4.9cm,\;51.2{\pm}6.0kg\;and\;20.1{\pm}2.2$, respectively. The mean age, height , weight, and BMI of Fukuoka subjects were $18.3{\pm}0.6$ year old, $157.5{\pm}5.0cm,\;53.3{\pm}6.9kg\;and\;21.5{\pm}2.5$, respectively. The average ideal height desired by subjects in Taegu was higher than their real mean height by 5.1cm ; while the average ideal weight desired by subjects was lower than real mean weight by 2.6kg. The average ideal height desired by subjects in Fukuoka was higher than their real mean height by 3.2cm ; while the average ideal weight desired by subjects was lower than real mean weight by 5.4kg. The percentage of Taegu subjects who desired to be slender, be fatty and maintain weight were 70.1%, 7.3%, and 22.6% respectively. The percentage of Fukuoka subjects who desired to be slender, be fatty and maintain weight were 85.3%,2.6% and 12.1% respectively. The rate of misconception for the actual physique was 56.5% in Taegu subjects, and 57.2% In fukuoka subjects. The over estimation rate was higher in subjects desired for slenderness than in others. The adolescent females having a fatty body image in self-consciousness indicated that they felt high social physique anxiousness. Finally, the rate of misconception and the degree of social physique anxiousness were higher in those who had a desire for slenderness.
This study conducted a questionnaire survey on diet behavior in male and female university students in Cheongju area and examined the behavioral characteristics related to diets such as body type awareness degree, actual weight and height, diet experience, and side effects. The desired average weight of male students was 68.81kg, which was 6.42% less than the current average weight of 73.53kg. The desired weight of female students was 49.15kg, which was 9.95% lower than the current average weight of 54.58kg. There was a significant difference between male and female groups in all questions on diet characteristics (p<0.05, p<0.01, p<0.001). Looking at the result of this study, it is necessary to provide accurate nutrition knowledge and proper education and counseling programs so that university students who desire to have a slimmer body shape that have highly dissatisfied view on their weight can maintain their healthy life through desirable weight management.
Purpose : This study was to examine the relations of perception of physique with self-esteem, sociality and problematic behaviors in children. Methods: Four hundred sixty five (231 boys and 234 girls) children were divided into three groups according to their height or body mass index according to the physical growth standard table had been presented in 2007 by the Korean Pediatric Society. The group 1, 2, and 3 was short, borderline and normal or obese, overweight and normal, respectively. Their perception and satisfaction of height and weight were investigated, and their self esteem and behavior styles were examined with Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) and Korean Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). We compared the numbers of appropriate perception, satisfaction, self-esteem and problematic behaviors in each group, and analyzed the relationship among perception of physique, self-esteem, sociality, and behavioral characteristics. The collected data were analyzed with chi-square test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient used with SPSS (ver. 12.0). Results : There were significant mismatches among their real physique perception and satisfaction (P<0.05). There were no significant differences of their self-esteem, sociality, and problematic behaviors according to their actual height and weight. There were significant differences of their self-esteem according to their perception or satisfaction of their height and weight (P<0.01). Conclusion : The children who considered themselves have short stature or obesity had problematic behaviors or low self-esteem. Therefore, children should be educated to have the appropriate perception of their own body image.

Energy expenditure values were estimated based on the voice signals and body activities. Voice signals and body activities were obtained using PVDF contact vibration sensor and 3-axis accelerometer, respectively. Vibration caused by voices, activity signals, and actual energy consumption were acquired using data acquisition system and gas analyzer. With the use of power values from the voice signals and weight as independent variables, R-square of 0.918 appeared to show the highest value. For activity outputs, use of signal vector magnitude, body mass index, height, and age as independent variables revealed to provide the highest correlation with actual energy expenditure. Estimation of energy expenditure based on voice and activity provides more accurate results than based on activity only.
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate the actual somatotype and perceptual somatotype, and to compare actual somaotype with ideal somatotype, and to explore segmentation based on perception of slim/obese somatotype. The respondents included 201 female student volunteers, aged 19 to 27, who were enrolled at university in Busan. Data were analyzed by paired t-test, correlation analysis, cluster analysis, and ANOVA. The results were as follows; The subjects tended to be satisfied with long and slim, slim limbs, and preferred to be tall in height and light in weight. And perceptual somatotype was related to satisfaction of somatotype. Cluster analysis was female college students to identify groups of respondents based on the perception of somatotype(all the body, the upper half of the body, the lower half of the body)difference factors. Based on the finding, three distinct groups were formed: slim tendency group, moderators tendency group, obese tendency group. There were a significant among slim tendency group, moderators tendency group, and obese tendency group base on the perceptual somatotype. There were significant differences among the three groups in terms of perception of somatotype and satisfaction of somatotype.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate whether the athletic knee show greater rotation and translation movement than non-athletic knee during the treadmill walking with their preferred speed in a complete gait cycle. Method: Thirty young and healthy male subjects participated in the study, fifteen handball players (mean age: 19.6 ± 1.4 years old, mean weight: 85 ± 11.9 Kg, mean height: 179.8 ± 4.7) and fifteen non-athletes (mean age: 22.8 ± 1.2 years old, mean weight: 74.5 ± 8.6 Kg, mean height: 175 ± 5.9). Three-dimensional positional coordinate of lower limb during treadmill walking were analyzed. Results: There were significant differences (t (22.014)=1.585, p=0.127 in the range of internal and external rotation with mean value for handball player (M=14.4513, SD=2.3839) was higher than non-athletes (M=13.3327, SD=1.337). The magnitude of the difference in the means (mean difference=1.11867, 95% CI: -0.34489 to 2.5822) was significant. There were also significant differences (t (17.956)=1.654, p=0.116 in the max abduction and adduction with mean value for handball player (M=5.7160, SD=2.49281) was higher than non-athletes (M=4.5773, SD=0.94667). The magnitude of the difference in the means (mean difference=1.138, 95% CI: -0.30805 to 2.58539) was significant. At significance level 0.05. Conclusion: Finding of this study suggest that to understand the actual characteristic of knee motion studies have to be done in different walking and running trial at variable speed.
