  • This study explored issues related to the library in the COVID-19 era in YouTube videos in Korea. This study performed social network analysis and topic modeling analysis by collecting 479 YouTube videos, 20,545 words, and 8,379 channels related to COVID-19 and the library from 2019 to 2020. The study results confirmed that YouTube, a social media platform, was used as an important medium to connect users and physical libraries and provide/promote online library services. In the study, major topics and keywords such as quarantine, vlog, and library identity during the COVID-19 pandemic, library services and functions, and introductions and user guides of libraries were derived. Additionally, it was identified that videos about COVID-19 and the library are being produced by various actors (news and media channels, libraries, government agencies, librarians, and individual users). However, the study also identified that the actor network is fragmented through the channel network, showing a low density or weak linkage, and that the centrality of the library in the actor network is weak.

  • Wireless network technologies are becoming more widely used in industrial environment. The industrial communication system requires a real-time delivery of messages. The sensors periodically senses the physical environment and wants to deliver the data in real-time to the sink. This paper proposes a real-time protocol for periodic messages on wireless sensor and actor networks to be used in industrial communications. The proposed protocol delivers the data message using the shortest path from the source and the nearest actor. The protocol considers the energy consumption by reducing the number of broadcast messages during flooding. We have evaluated the performance of the proposed protocol using QualNet simulator. The simulation results show that the data messages have been delivered in real-time and the number of broadcast messages is reduced from 90% to 35% compared the existing protocols.

  • The main objectives of this research are to analyse and evaluate the demolishing walls initiative in Daegu city as the collaborative urban environment improvement initiative in South Korea using the actor network theory concept. Local authorities are unable to effectively and efficiently improve urban environment because of their limited statutory and financial powers. This inability crucially led to the formation of the demolishing walls initiative in Daegu city with building a coalition of the local people, interest groups and public and non-governmental organisations in the operational processes in order to improve the physical and social urban environments. Furthermore, co-ordination between local authorities and landscape architecture specialists not only to change the way in which they tackle urban environmental problems but also to make the local people aware of their potential ability in positively improving the urban environment.

  • The article proposes that empathy differs in severity and types among students of different specialties. And to test this hypothesis, an experimental study of students from 4 different faculties was carried out. As a result of the study, it was found that empathy is more pronounced among students of "humanitarian" specialties, and students of "exact" specialties have the least pronounced empathic abilities.

  • This paper is a theoretical inquiry of the changing roles of digital technologies in the representation of risk. Critically examining existing perspectives on risk society and risk communication, this paper argues that digital technologies and images in risk communication have been relatively understudied. Having said that, this paper suggests that Actor-network Theory provide useful theoretical tools for current studies on how digital technologies affect contemporary risk communication practices. Furthermore, this paper examines varied recent studies investigating how digital technologies of visualization are at play in risk communication practices. In doing so, this paper demonstrates how digital images and technologies interrupt the processes that scientific evidence is presented and facts are constructed in varied contemporary scientific reasoning. It will focus on the emerging mode of seeing and visual regime made possible by the increased usage of digital image and technologies, which are characterized by networked connection, sensor, computerized algorithm, and increased storage space. Finally this paper will discuss on the implications on future studies on the roles of digital images and technologies in risk communication practices in Korean context.

  • Emerging of wireless sensor networks results in several modeling and design issues on the network simulations. In previous works, most researchers have used three evaluation approaches such as analysis method, computer simulation and real test-bed measurement in order to verify the performance of wireless sensor networks. Among these approaches, analysis method is widely used since the other approaches have significant drawbacks such as limitation of network power, computational problem of distribute processing and complication of debugging process. However, the analysis method also shows poor performance when it deals with complex operations in huge wireless sensor networks. Thus, in this paper, we design and develop SMAC and AODV protocols by using Ptolemy tool in order to improve the simulation performance. The developed Ptolemy actor can be easily adapted to compare and evaluate the various protocols for wireless sensor networks.

  • What is a disaster? And what can science and technology studies tell us about it? There might be numerous definitions about disaster. In this article, we will posit that disaster is an incident when sociotechnical system actor-network broke down against the other force in their "trial of strength". This is a process that punctualized actor-network is depunctualized, and a status that readiness-to-hand of Being recedes while pesentness-at-hand of tool-being comes forward. Using the concept of disaster as a case study, we will consider how Latourian ontology overlaps with Heideggerian philosophy of technology. This STS approach which hasn't been previously studied might provide us with new theoretical framework that enables us to construe the assemblage of technoscience and nature-society in the field of PUS or NPSS.

  • Recent environmental issues such as genetically modified organisms, the loss of biodiversity, climate change, and nuclear waste cannot be reduced to a matter of science or society and explained through nature-society dualist approaches because of their complexity and heterogeneity. This paper examines how nature-society dualism has been embedded in science studies and geography and how this dualism can be overcome. Actor-Network Theory as an attempt to overcome this nature-society dualism is appropriate in analysing "strange imbriglio" of biology, politics, technoscience, market, value, ethics and facts that constitute our society by focusing on heterogeneous association, and can contribute to providing a useful framework to solve environmental problems.

  • With the advent of 5G and B5G (Beyond 5G) networks, network virtualization technology that can overcome the limitations of existing networks is attracting attention. The purpose of network virtualization is to provide solutions for efficient network resource utilization and various services. Existing heuristic-based VNE (Virtual Network Embedding) techniques have been studied, but the flexibility is limited. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a GNN-based network slicing classification scheme to meet various service requirements and a RL-based VNE scheme for optimal resource allocation. The proposed method performs optimal VNE using an Actor-Critic network. Finally, to evaluate the performance of the proposed technique, we compare it with Node Rank, MCST-VNE, and GCN-VNE techniques. Through performance analysis, it was shown that the GNN and RL-based VNE techniques are better than the existing techniques in terms of acceptance rate and resource efficiency.
