The turbo chiller uses centrifugal compressor, which operates at about 14,500 rpm. Due to the high rpm of the impeller, the noise of chiller males one of the serious problems. The possibility of the sound reduction by using absorbing material is studied in this paper. The generated sound propagates through the duct and then radiates to the outer field. So, the use of sound absorption material inside the duct is one of the effective methods. To study the effect of location of the material, we use Boundary Element Method to analyze the sound field inside the duct system. Numerical study shows the highest sound pressure region is near the elbow of curved duct. From the numerical study, it is also shown that appropriate use of sound absorbing material at this region makes 8dB reduction of the highest noise level.
This paper presents a simplified analytical formulation for computing acoustic power radiation from a rectangular plate exposed to random forces such as turbulent boundary layer pressure fluctuations and arbitrary mechanical force in a subsonic flow field. The expression for the acoustic power is derived using modal expansion method and light fluid loading is assumed on the plate. In order to simplify the formulation for acoustic power due to combined excitations of mechanical forces and turbulent pressures, it is assumed that the structural damping of the plate is small and excitations are broadband random forces having frequency spectra above the convective coincidence. Under these assumptions, an approximate solution for the broadband acoustic power radiation from a plate excited by both turbulent pressures and arbitrary mechanical forces is obtained and evaluated considering the effect of modal coupling on the radiated acoustic power. An efficient method is also suggested to compute modal acoustic impedance in a moving fluid medium by using averaged Green function.
The acoustic characteristics radiated from the acoustic transducer with metal-piezoceramic laminated circular plate were simulated. The Vibrational modes of metal-piezoceramic laminated circular plates were calculated by using the finite element method. After meshing the inside closed boundary of the acoustic transducer, the pressure gradients and the isotaric lines were calculated for the various frequencies. It has been observed that the characteristics of the sound pressure calculated for the various frequencies. Also, the directivity patterns and the sound pressure radiated from the acoustic transducer were calculated by 2-dimensional analysis.
Power Flow Analysis (PFA) is introduced for solving the noise and vibration analysis of structures in medium-to-high frequency ranges. The vibration analysis software, $PFADS_{C{+}{+}}$ R4 based on Power Flow Finite Element Method (PFFEM) and the noise prediction software, $NASPFA_{C{+}{+}}$ R1 based on Power Flow Boundary Element Method (PFBEM) are developed. In this paper, the coupling equation which represents relation between structural energy and acoustic energy is developed for vibro-acoustic coupling analysis. And vibro-acoustic coupling analysis software based on PFA and coupling equation is developed. Developed software is composed of translator, cavity-finder, solver and post-processor over all. Translator can translate FE model into PFADS FE model and cavity-finder can automatically make NASPFA BE model from PFADS FE model for noise analysis. The solver module calculates the structural energy density, intensity of structures, the fictitious source on the boundary and the acoustic energy density at the field in acoustic cavities. Some applications of vibro-acoustic coupling analysis software to various structures and cruise ship are shown with reliable results.
Proposed is an aero-acoustic performance prediction method of axial fan. The fan aerodynamic performance is predicted by combining pitch-averaged quasi 3-D flow analysis with pressure loss models for blade boundary layer and wake, secondary flow, endwall boundary layer and tip leakage flows. Fan noise is assumed to be radiated as dipole distribution type, and its generation is assumed to be mainly due to the vortex street shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex stree shed from blade trailing edge. The fluctuating pressure and lift on the blade surface are analyzed by incorporating the wake vortex street model with thin airfoil theory. The aero-acoustic performance prediction results by the present method are in good agreement with the measured results of several axial fans. With the present prediction method, parametric studies are carried out to investigate the effects of blade chord length and spacing on the efficiency and the noise level of fan. In the case of lightly loaded fan, both efficiency improvement and noise reduction can be achieved by decreasing chord length or by increasing blade specing. However, when fan is designed at highly loaded condition, the noise reduction by increasing blade spacing penalizes the attaninable efficiency of fan.
Pressure pulsation of exciting sources that generally occurs on the piping system connected to the discharge of BFP(boiler feed water pump) in power plants causes wave reflection, wave interference, resonance, standing wave and so on. But if the operating speed of the pump is changed, the state of the noise and vibration can be done because characteristics of the exciting source are changed. This paper is to investigate the cause of the noise and vibration occurring on the piping system when the operating speed of BFP is down in accordance with lowering of the power generation. It is approached to two points of view ; Firstly, it is examined whether the pulsation source impacts on the shell mode vibration that vibrates radially across the cross-section of the pipe. But it doesn't affect the shell mode as much as the resonance occurs. Secondly, to find the relation between the pulsation source and the acoustic mode of the piping system, analysis for the piping system by indirect BEM(boundary element method) is carried out. Therefore it is investigated that the mechanism of the noise and vibration relates with acoustic mode of the piping system.
High-Pressure gas Pipeline which is buried in underground has the Possibility that will be exposed to unexpected dangerous impact of construction equipment. To protect from this kind of danger, the real-time health monitoring system of the high-pressure gas pipeline is necessary. First of all, to make the real-time health monitoring system clearly, the acoustic wave propagation characteristics which are made from various construction equipment impacts must be identified. In link of technical development that prevents the damage of high-pressure gas pipeline, this paper gives FEM(finite element method) and BEM(boundary element method) solutions to identify the acoustic wave propagation characteristic of the various impact input signals which consist of Direc delta function and convolution signal of 45 Hz square signal and random signal.
Enhanced approach using computational and experimental method is proposed and performed to describe very well the behavior of loudspeaker than conventional method. Proposed procedure is composed of four parts. First, Thiele-Small parameters for test loudspeaker are identified by an electrical impedance method like as a delta mass method. Second part includes the processes to measure physical properties. Physical data like masses and thicknesses of loudspeaker's components are measured by an electrical precision scale and a digital vernier caliper. Third, the identified Thiele-Small parameters are proposed to be used as load boundary conditions for vibration analysis instead of electromagnetic circuit analysis to get a driving force upon bobbin part. Also, these parameters and physical data are used to modify physical properties required for computation to accommodate simulated sound pressure level with measured one for loudspeaker enclosure system. These data like as Young's modulus and thickness for a diaphragm are required for vibration analysis of loudspeaker but not measured accurately. Finally, it was investigated that simulated sound pressure level with full acoustic modeling including an acoustic port for test loudspeaker agreed with experimental result very well in the midrange frequency band(from 100 Hz to 2,000 Hz). In addition, several design parametric study is performed to grasp acoustical behaviors of loudspeaker system due to variations of diaphragm thicknesses and shapes of dust cap.

This paper describes the simulation of a micromachined dome-shaped-diaphragm acoustic transducer built on a $1.5{\mu}m$ thick silicon nitride diaphragm ($2,000{\mu}m$ in radius, with a circular clamped boundary on a silicon substrate) with electrodes and piezoelectric ZnO film in a silicon substrate. Finite element analysis with ANSYS 5.6 has been performed to analyze the static and dynamic behaviors of the transducer under both pressure and voltage loadings.
This paper describes the application of a coupled finite element-boundary element method to obtain the steady-state response of a hydrophone. The particular structure considered is a flooded piezoelectric spherical shell. The hydrophone is three-dimensionally simulated to transduce an incident plane acoustic pressure onto the outer surface of the sonar spherical shell to electrical potentials on inner and outer surfaces of the shell. The acoustic field formed from the scattered sound pressure is also simulated. And the displacement of the shell caused by the externally incident acoustic pressure is shown in temporal motion. The coupled FE-BE method is described in detail.
