In order to evaluate seismic performance of multi-degree-of-freedom bridge structure, moderate lateral load distribution methods using the pushover analysis were developed by many researchers. One of important variables to improve an accuracy of pushover analysis is lateral load distribution. In this study, pushover analyses were performed using the five types of lateral load distribution and seismic performances were evaluated by capacity spectrum method (CSM). To verify an accuracy of suggested lateral load distribution, the maximum displacement estimates by the CSM were compared to those by inelastic time history analysis.
Procedures are investigated by which nonlinear finite element shell analysis algorithms can be simplified to provide more cost effective approximate analyses of orthogonally-reinforced concrete flat plate structures. Two alternative effective stiffness formulations, and an unbalanced force formulation, are described. These are then implemented into a nonlinear shell analysis algorithm. Nonlinear geometry, three-dimensional layered stress analyses, and other general formulations are bypassed to reduce the computational burden. In application to standard patch test problems, these simplified approximate analysis procedures are shown to provide reasonable accuracy while significantly reducing the computational effort. Corroboration studies using various simple and complex test specimens provide an indication of the relative accuracy of the constitutive models utilized. The studies also point to the limitations of the approximate formulations, and identify situations where one should revert back to full nonlinear shell analyses.

The purpose of this paper is to get a powerful tool for response analysis of a spherical dome subjected to dynamic excitation based on mathematically analytical method, i. e., the Galerkin procedure in modal analysis, with sufficient accuracy and practicality. At first, this paper provides an approximate solution of eigen modes, which has sufficient accuracy and praticallity for response analysis in symmetric and antisymmetric state. In the second stage of this paper, response analysis of a dome subjected to horizontal earthquakes is executed as the application of these approximate modes. Many important response characteristics may manifest themselves through parametric survey of material and geometric properties.

Recently, effort to obtain various information from the vast amount of social network services (SNS) big data generated in daily life has expanded. SNS big data comprise sentences classified as unstructured data, which complicates data processing. As the amount of processing increases, a rapid processing technique is required to extract valuable information from SNS big data. We herein propose a system that can extract human sentiment information from vast amounts of SNS unstructured big data using the naïve Bayes algorithm and natural language processing (NLP). Furthermore, we analyze the effectiveness of the proposed method through various experiments. Based on sentiment accuracy analysis, experimental results showed that the machine learning method using the naïve Bayes algorithm afforded a 63.5% accuracy, which was lower than that yielded by the NLP method. However, based on data processing speed analysis, the machine learning method by the naïve Bayes algorithm demonstrated a processing performance that was approximately 5.4 times higher than that by the NLP method.
This paper presents a methodology for the electric field analysis of substation. For the electric field analysis of substation, the electrodes(substation busbars) must be represented by finite line with nonlinear charge density. In the case of dividing finite line into uniform segments, a large number of variables have to be used to obtain the accuracy within a desired tolerance. To deal with the problem, nonuniform charge arrangement modeling method is suggested. To reduce potential calculation errors, the linear charge density function is considered particularly for the segment charge model ling. If the charge arrangement is improper, the accuracy not improved regardless of increment in the number of segments. This paper proposes an optimal charge arrangement method through potential error analysis. And, the optimal charge arrangement function is formulated by a lot of simulation results.
The simplest method which has been used extensively for vibration analysis is the transfer matrix method introduced by Myklestad and was later extended by many researchers. The crude approximation results in considerable error on the predicted natural frequencies and to increase the accuracy the number of elements used in the analysis must be increased. In addition, numerical instability can occur as a result of matrix multiplication. Also the main disadvantage of the finite element method is the large computer memory requirements for complex systems. The new method proposed in this paper combines the transfer matrix and finite dynamic element techniques to form a powerful algorithm for vibration analysis of rotor system. It is shown that the accuracy improves significantly when the transfer matrix for each segment is obtained from finite dynamic element techniques.
This paper desfcribes the formulation for the analysis of the free vibration of a circular cylindrical shell with elastic supports by the transfer influence coefficient method. This method was developed on the base of the concept of the successive transmission of dynamic influence coefficients. The analysis algorithm for circular cylindrical shell elastically restrained by springs, which plays an important role in many industrial fields, is discussed. The supporting springs have the axial, circumferential, radial and rotational spring constants uniformly distributed along the circumference of the shell. The simple computational results on a personal computer demonstrate the validity of the present method, that is, the numerical high accuracy, the high speed analysis method and the flexibility for programming, compared with results of the transfer matrixmethod and reference. We also confirmed that the present algorithm could obtain the solutions of high accuracy for system with a number of intermediate rigid supports. And we could easily treat the intermediate support and all boundary conditions by adequately varying the values of spring constants.

During the dynamic analysis of a system, the Coulomb friction law is emploved to calculate the friction force. Since the static friction coefficient is only employed during the zero relative velocity, it is impractical to employ the coefficient during the dynamic analysis. To calculate the static friction force, therefore, some friction models have been developed. In this study, the integration stability and the accuracy of the models are investigated with some numerical examples. The effect of time step size during the numerical integration is also investigated. The numerical study shows that the friction model employed for most commercial codes is not as good as the one proposed in this study.
Various Time Synchronization protocols for a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) have been developed since time synchronization is important in many time-critical WSN applications. Aside from synchronization accuracy, energy constraint should also be considered seriously for time synchronization protocols in WSNs, which typically have limited power environments. This paper performs analysis of prominent WSN time synchronization protocols in terms of power consumption and test by simulation. In the analysis and simulation tests, each protocol shows different performance in terms of power consumption. This result is helpful in choosing or developing an appropriate time synchronization protocol that meets the requirements of synchronization accuracy and power consumption (or network lifetime) for a specific WSN application.
Seismic ground response analysis is one of the most important issues in geotechnical earthquake engineering. Conventional seismic site response and free field analysis of layered soils does not consider the effect of surcharge mass which may be present on the top layer. Surcharge mass may develop extra inertial force to the soil and, hence, significantly affect on the results of seismic ground response analysis. Methods of analysis of ground response may also be categorized into time domain and frequency domain concepts. Simplicity in developing analytical relations and accuracy in considering soil dynamic properties dependency to loading frequency are benefits of frequency domain analysis. In this part of the paper, seismic ground response is analyzed using transfer function method for soil layers considering surcharge mass on the top layer. Equation of motion, wave equation, is solved using amended boundary conditions which effectively take the impact of surcharge mass into account. A computer program is developed by MATLAB software based on the solution method developed for wave equation. Layered soils subjected to earthquake loading were numerically studied and solved especially by the computer program developed in this research. Results obtained were compared with those given by DEEP SOIL computer program. Such comparison showed the accuracy of the program developed in this study. Also in this part, the effects of geometrical and mechanical properties of soil layers and especially the impact of surcharge mass on transfer function are investigated using the current approach and the program developed. The efficiency and accuracy of the method developed here is shown through some worked examples and through comparison of the results obtained here with those given by other approaches. Discussions on the results obtained are presented throughout in this part.
