This study was to identify the mediating effect of hope between acculturative stress and psychological wellbeing of women immigrants. The data for the study were collected from 609 women immigrants in 10 cities and provinces of Korea. First, the acculturative stress except for homesickness was lower than the middle point, and hope and positive wellbeing scored above the middle point. Second, acculturative stress was negatively correlated with hope and positive wellbeing. Third, the mediating effect of hope between acculturative stress and positive wellbeing was testified. Finally, the mediating effect of hope between acculturative stress and negative wellbeing was also testified.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify predictors of drinking problems in Korean international students in the United States. Methods: The subjects involved this study were 190 Korean international students in the United States. Data were measured using a drinking problems questionnaire, an acculturative stress scale for international student, and the CES-D. The collected data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN 17.0 program to calculate mean, standard deviation, ANOVA, Sheff$\acute{e}$ test and pearson's correlation coefficient. and stepwise multiple regression. Results: 1) The mean score of the degree of perceived acculturative stress was $2.15{\pm}0.63$, of depression was $17.67{\pm}9.85$, and of drinking problems was $15.03{\pm}15.52.2$) There were significant correlations between acculturative stress and drinking problems (r=.506, p<.001), between depression and drinking problems (r=.6726, p<.001), and between acculturative stress and depression (r=.453, p<.001). 3) In stepwise multiple regression analysis the most powerful predictor of drinking problems were acculturative stress (${\beta}$=.243, p<.001), and depression (${\beta}$=.562, p<.001). Conclusion: Based on the results, practical implications for reducing the acculturative stress and improving the psychological well-being of Korean students were discussed.
The main purpose of this study was to examine the effect of demographic variables (gender, SES, period of residence in Korea, place of residence, type of program, Korean ability), self-esteem, and acculturative stress on the college adaptation of international college students in Korea. 346 (196 male, 150 female) students from three universities in Jeollanam province completed the Self-Esteem, Acculturative Stress Scale for International Students and The Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ). While gender had no influence on the college adaptation of international college students, SES, period of residence in Korea, place of residence, type of program and Korean ability had significant influences. Also it was found that acculturative stress, type of program, self-esteem and place of residence had significant influence on academic adaptation whereas self-esteem, acculturative stress, type of program, and Korean ability had significant influences on social adaptation. Related to emotional adaptation, acculturative stress, place of residence, and self-esteem were significant variables. Finally, acculturative stress, type of program, self-esteem and place of residence were significant variables of institutional attachment.
Purpose: This study was a descriptive study to assess the relationships between acculturative stress and current perception of stress in Korean immigrants. Methods: The subjects consisted of 154 community-dwelling Korean immigrant living in the USA. Data collection was conducted through the use of questionnaires. The instruments for this study were Acculturative stress (12 items), The Global Assessment of Recent Scale(8 items). The collected data were analysed using SPSS PC 12.0 Programme for Frequency, Percentage, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan test and Pearson's correlation coefficient according to the purpose of this study. Results: 1) The average item score for acculturative stress was 17.17. The average item score for current perception of stress was 26.56. 2) Acculturative stress was positively related to current perception of stress (r=.360, p<.01). 3) Acculturative stress was significantly different according to educational level (F=2.709, p=.047), occupation (F=16.202, p=.000), perceived income comfort level (F=26.666, p=.000), and type of residence (F=2.672, p=.050). The Current perception of stress was significantly different according to age (F=7.380, p=.000), marital status (F=5.354, p=.006), perceived income comfort level (F=12.738, p=.000), and type of residence(F=4.207, p=.007). Conclusion: Theses findings help to clarify relationships between acculturative stress and current perception of stress in Korean immigrants. Therefore, the result of study provide clues for the quality of life of Korean immigrants.
This investigation examined the association between demographic variables, acculturation and acculturative stress. Participants in the study were 360 Pilipino, Vietnamese, Chinese, Chinese-Korean and Japanese woman who had married internationally and were living in Jeonbuk-Do. Hierarchical regression analyses determined that among the independent variables examined, age, Korean language ability, marital satisfaction, and ethnic identity had significant predictive effects on the levels of acculturative stress experienced. Young women who had lower Korean language proficiency, lower marital satisfaction, and higher ethnic identity showed more higher level of acculturative stress. Implications of this research were discussed with particular attention given to possible support programs for women in international marriages.

This study examines the mediating effects of social support on 1) the relationships between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety and 2) the relationships between emotional control and depression/anxiety in children from multicultural families. Pearson's correlations between variables were analyzed, and hierarchical regression analyses were conducted to identify direct and indirect effects of acculturative stress, emotional control, and social support on children's depression/anxiety. The sample included a total of 199 primary school students in grades 3 to 6 who lived in the Gwangju or Chonnam regions of Korea. First, there were positive correlations between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety and negative correlations between emotional control and social support. Second, social support from both peers and teachers partially mediated the relationships between acculturative stress and depression/anxiety. Third, social support from peers fully mediated the relationships between emotional control and depression/anxiety, and that from teachers partially mediated these relationships. The results suggest that social support from peers and teachers may reduce depression/anxiety in multicultural children as a mediating variable.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was not only to collect data on acculturative stress, social support and self-efficacy for Chinese students studying in Korea but also to research the correlation between them to identify factors that affect acculturative stress. Method: Subjects included 143 Chinese students studying at a university located in J city of Chungbuk province in Korea, between September 4th to 20th 2010. Data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 18.0 version, using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficient and Stepwise multiple regression. Result: Acculturative stress correlated with social support and self-efficacy. Regression model of the factors that affect acculturative stress consisted of major GPA, self-efficacy and student satisfaction of studying in Korea, with factors explaining 17.6% of the results. Conclusions: The findings suggest that on the basis of the results of this study, more studies are needed to identify additional different factors that affect acculturative stress as well as to develop nursing intervention programs for physical and psychological support, to help students studying abroad to become acculturated and devote themselves to study their studies.

In addition, (ⅲ) the acculturation of international students from four countries showed a significant correlation with personal factors, Korean living culture, contentment to the collegiate life, and (iv) the acculturation of Chinese students showed a positive correlation with separation strategy. In contrast, there was a negative correlation between the marginalization strategy and the acculturation of Mongolian and Japanese students.
This study aims to conduct a music psychotherapy program on North Korean child defectors, who are experiencing acculturative stress, and to discover the effects of the program on the participants' acculturative stress. This study targeted four North Korean child defectors, who belonged to an H afterschool class in Seoul and performed the program in individual sessions for about 40 minutes per session, totaling 14 sessions. The research results include the following. First, after comparing the results of acculturative stress score that measured before and after the execution of the music psychotherapy program, the mean of the score was significantly decreased from 32.75 to 23 average. Furthermore, as a result of conducting a qualitative analysis of the lingual responses that the participants demonstrated in musical activity, in relation to acculturative stress, the participants were found to experience a positive change. These results imply that the music psychotherapy program offers consistent support through music to North Korean Child Defectors, who are cowering psychologically and experiencing difficulty in adaptation, and reinforces inner resources through their positive self-perception, which indicates that it can be an effective mediation in reducing their acculturative stress.
