The physical environment can dramatically affect students' feeling and their behavior, educational attainment, and the way in which we do school activities. Unlimited access to campus areas without appropriate securities have reported an increase of crime in school area and safety issues has encouraged school facility planners to install securities devices at every corner of buildings. However, it is still questionable whether this approach is enough to protect students and staffs from the victimization of crime, including thefts, burglaries and sexual offences. There has been continued doubt about the safety of educational facilities where individual college students are studying and enjoying extra-curricular activities. Therefore, the purpose of this study is intended to investigate the effects of perception of safety by students on the level of academic performance at public outdoor environment of university campus. An extensive literature noted that the central element of modern school design principle mainly holds the theory of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED) and the concept of defensible space. The second generation of CPTED also focused on social soft issues as well as situational factors, which extends beyond mere physical design to include social factors. The correlation analysis found that the effect of sense of safety does appear to be statistically significant on the facilitation of academic achievement. However, the analysis of Chi-square concluded that the perception of safety was not related to demographic and socio-economic profiles of the group except for gender. Further, stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that the most prime predictor for academic achievement were 'safe public outdoor space/paths' at university campus environment, implying careful design of public open space and sidewalks based on the guideline of CPTED. The study also demonstrated that as the level of positive perception of safety rose, the overall academic achievement also responded to the specified rate (${\beta}=.99$). Finally, the findings reinforce an evidence that high-quality school environments are a positive factor in student academic performance.
The purpose of this study was to examine high school second graders' understanding of the basic nature of logarithm, the major type of error they made about logarithmic function and the cause of such an error, and to seek ways to instruct it better. For that purpose, three research questions were posed: 1. Investigate how much high school students in their second year comprehend the nature of logarithm. 2. Analyze what type of error they make about logarithmic function. 3. Analyze the cause of their error according to the selected error models and how it could be taught more efficiently. The findings of this study were as below: First, the natural science students had a better understanding of the basic nature of logarithm than the academic students. What produced the widest gap between the two groups' understanding was applying the nature of logarithm to the given problems, and what caused the smallest gap was the definition of logarithm and the condition of base. Second, the academic students had a poorer understanding of the basic nature of logarithmic function graph and of applying the nature of logarithm to the given problems. Third, the natural science students didn't comprehend well the basic nature of logarithmic function graph, the nature of characteristics and mantissa. Fourth, for all the students from academic and natural science courses, the most common errors were caused by the poor understanding of theorem or nature of the [E4] model. Fifth, the academic students made more frequent errors due to the unfamiliar signs of the [El] model, the imperfect understanding of theorem or nature of the [E4] model, and the technical part of the [E6] model. Sixth, the natural science students made more frequent errors because of the improper problem interpretation of the [E2] model and the logically improper inference of the [E3] model.

After a longitudinal analysis of the data on the college entrance examination of students enrolled in the Department of Chemistry Education at Gyeongnam from 2014 to 2021, the effect on the academic achievement of general chemistry according to the type of college entrance examination was studied. And the impact on the academic achievement of general chemistry according to the type of admission screening in face-to-face and non-face-to-face teaching-learning was also studied. As a result of analyzing the academic achievement of general chemistry by admission process, students admitted through occasional screening showed relatively high grades of A and B at 88.7%, and the ratio of grades of 1~3 of chemistry I in high school was high. On the other hand, in the case of students admitted through regular admission, the ratio of grades of A and B in general chemistry was very high at 94.3%, and the ratio of grades of 3~4 in chemistry I of the College Scholastic Ability Test was high. As a result of analyzing the academic achievement of general chemistry by class type and admission process, it was found that the grades of chemistry I by face-to-face classes had an effect on the academic achievement of general chemistry in non-face-to-face classes. In both admissions, the academic achievement of general chemistry by face-to-face classes was relatively higher than that of non-face-to-face-to-face classes.

In this study, I collected materials through the survey whose object is 573 students of technical high schools and 512 students of academic high schools in Seoul and Kyunggi areas, for examining dangerous factors and protective factors which influence on school resilience in technical high schools. The studying results are as followed. First, as the result of analyzing correlation between school resilience and dangerous factor, the higher dangerous factor was, the lower school resilience was. Second, as the result verifying the effects of dangerous factor on school resilience, discrimination of teacher, delinquency bond and anti-sociality made an effect on students in technical high schools and discrimination of teacher, delinquency bond and depression made an effect on students in academic high schools. Third, as the result analyzing correlation between school resilience and protective factor, the higher protective factor was, the higher school resilience was. Forth, as the result verifying the effects of protective factor on school resilience, support of teacher, democratic atmosphere of school, sense of responsibility, family cohesion, self-worth, rational supporting attitude made an effort on students in technical high schools and support of teacher, democratic atmosphere of school, sense of responsibility and family cohesion made an effect on students in academic high schools. Fifth, as the result analyzing the difference between dangerous factor and protective factor according to grade of school and standard of school resilience, there was an interaction in variables of anti-sociality, depression, delinquency bond and self-worth.
This study was conducted to examine the mediating effects of social anxiety and academic self-efficacy in the relationship between adolescent covert narcissism and school life adaptation. The subjects were 423 middle school and high school students. The results of this study are as follows: First, covert narcissistic personality tendency had a negative correlation with school life adaptation(r=-.51, p<.01). Covert narcissism had significant positive correlation with social anxiety(r=.70, p<.01) but had negative correlation with academic self-efficacy(r=-.39, p<.01). Social anxiety showed a significant negative correlation with school life adaptation(r=-.50, p<.01), academic self-efficacy had a positive correlation with school life adaptation(r=.63, p<.01), and social anxiety had a negative correlation with academic self-efficacy(r=-.51, p<.01). Second, as a result of verifying the mediating effects of social anxiety and academic self-efficacy, academic self-efficacy has mediating effects on the relationship between covert narcissism and school life adaptation(${\beta}=.41$, p<.001), and social anxiety has no mediating effect on school life adaptation(${\beta}=-.05$, p<.001). The results of this study suggest that If adolescents with covert narcissism have difficulties in adapting to school life, increasing academic self-efficacy, especially self-control efficacy and self-confidence, may be helpful to improve adolescents' adaptation to school life.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to describe the status and associated factors of mental health on girls' high school students. Methods: The participants were 446 academic girls' high school students and 240 vocational girls' high school students of the 1st graders in Busan. The data were collected from April 28, 2009 to May 30, 2009. Survey was developed in the form of self-report five-point likert scale(1-5) using Lees Instrument of mental health(1986) that revised from Derogatis et al's Symptom Check List-90(1976). The higher score of this scale means worse status of mental health. Result: The score of mental health of subjects was low and the mean was $1.69{\pm}.50.$ The depression mean was the highest among mental health sub-variables. The mental health of the vocational girls' high school students was worse than the academics. As for subjects in mental health by their various characteristics, there are significant by school type(p<0.001), economic status(p<0.001), father's job(p<0.001), parent's marrital status(p<0.001), cognitive health status(p<0.001), record(p<0.05), character(p<0.001), satisfaction of life(p<0.001), needs for help on mental health(p<0.001). Conclusion: The intervention program needs to improve mental health of vocational high school girls' students as well as academic high school girls' students, and need to establish depression relieving nursing intervention program for girls' high school students.
There are many factors that affect academic achievement, and the influences of those factors are also complex. Since the factors that influence mathematics academic achievement are constantly changing and developing, longitudinal studies to predict and analyze the growth of learners are needed. This study uses longitudinal data from 2014 (second year of middle school) to 2017 (second year of high school) of the Seoul Education Longitudibal Study, and divides it into groups with similar longitudinal patterns of change in mathematics academic achievement. The longitudinal change patterns and direct influence of mood and satisfaction were examined. As a result of the study, it was found that the mathematics academic achievement of the first group (1456 students, 68.3%) including the majority of students and the second group (677 students) of the top 31.7% had a direct influence on the mathematics class attitude. It was found that the mood and satisfaction of mathematics classes did not have a direct effect. In addition, the influence of mathematics class attitude on mathematics academic achievement was different according to the group. In addition, students in group 2 with high academic achievement in mathematics showed higher mathematics class attitude, mood, and satisfaction. In addition, the attitude, atmosphere, and satisfaction of mathematics classes were found to change continuously from the second year of middle school to the second year of high school, and the extent of the change was small.
This study aims to present basic data for preventing drop-out intention by identifying the mechanisms in which academic stress affects drop-out intention through self-esteem, peer relationships, and grit in high school students. The subjects of the study were 283 high school students purposively selected from three cities and counties in Chungcheongnam-do. The data were analysed using SPSS PC+ Win. ver. 25.0 and SPSS PROCESS macro ver. 4.2. The applied statistical techniques were descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, and moderated mediation effect analysis. As a result of the study, first, academic stress showed a positive correlation with the drop-out intention, but a negative correlation with self-esteem, grit, and peer relationship. Second, grit not only played a moderating role in enhancing the relationship between self-esteem and peer relationship, but also played a moderated mediating role in the path of academic stress → self-esteem → peer relationship → drop-out intention. It was confirmed that the academic stress of high school students has a direct effect on the drop-out intention, and that self-esteem, peer relationships, and grit can be used as important factors to prevent the school drop-out.
This study aimed to examine differences in the academic achievement depending on general characteristics of adolescents, and to verify the predictors influencing them according to school levels. For the study, 555 adolescents were surveyed at B county of Gyeongbuk province in September 2015. The results were as follows. First, it was found out that the adolescents' academic achievement was different depending on school level, family type, and economic status. Second, the predictors of the academic achievement in middle school students were self-esteem, age, number of friend, and aggression. Third, the predictors of the academic achievement in high school students were self-esteem, age, school level, and violence recognition. Based on these results, the ways to improve the academic achievement were suggested.
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: A healthy diet has been reported to be associated with physical development, cognition and academic performance, and personality during adolescence. This study was performed to investigate the relationships among milk consumption and academic performance, learning motivation and strategies, and personality among Korean adolescents. SUBJECTS/METHODS: The study was divided into two parts. The first part was a survey on the relationship between milk consumption and academic performance, in which intakes of milk and milk products and academic scores were examined in percentiles among 630 middle and high school students residing in small and medium-sized cities in 2009. The second part was a survey on the relationships between milk consumption and learning motivation and strategy as well as personality, in which milk consumption habits were collected and Learning Motivation and Strategy Test (L-MOST) for adolescents and Total Personality Inventory for Adolescents (TPI-A) were conducted in 262 high school students in 2011. RESULTS: In the 2009 survey, milk and milk product intakes of subjects were divided into a low intake group (LM: ${\leq}60.2g/day$), medium intake group (MM: 60.3-150.9 g/day), and high intake group (HM: ${\geq}151.0g/day$). Academic performance of each group was expressed as a percentile, and performance in Korean, social science, and mathematics was significantly higher in the HM group (P < 0.05). In the 2011 survey, the group with a higher frequency of everyday milk consumption showed significantly higher "learning strategy total," "testing technique," and "resources management technique" scores (P < 0.05) in all subjects. However, when subjects were divided by gender, milk intake frequency, learning strategy total, class participation technique, and testing technique showed significantly positive correlations (P < 0.05) in boys, whereas no correlation was observed in girls. Correlations between milk intake frequency and each item of the personality test were only detected in boys, and milk intake frequency showed positive correlations with "total agreeability", "organization", "responsibility", "conscientiousness", and "intellectual curiosity" (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Intakes of milk and milk products were correlated with academic performance (Korean, social science, and mathematics) in Korean adolescents. In male high school students, particularly, higher milk intake frequency was positively correlated with learning motivation and strategy as well as some items of the personality inventory.
