  • The survey was performed on 201 cases of mothers who visited pediatric hospitals and public health clinics in Pusan and Kyeong-nam provinces from Dec. 10 to Dec. 30 of 1993. If this study, each infant weighed over 2500gm and between 2 months and 12 months old. The research was statistically analyzed according to the percentage, Pearson correlation, $x^2$-test. The result of this study were as follows ; 1. Feeding method related to the job of mother (p<0.01). 2. Feeding method related to the way of bringing up child(p<0.05). 3. Whether the mother and child shared the same room effected the feeding method (p<0.01). 4. The shape of nipple before breast feeding related to feeding method. 5. The reason for stopping breast feeding related to feeding method(p<0.01). 6. First breast feeding related to period of seperation after delivery(p<0.05). 7. Plan of breast feeding related to birth weight (p<0.05).

The Effect of Academic Stress and ASE(Attitude-Social Influence-Self Efficacy) Model Factors on Academic Persistence of Online University Students (원격대학 학습자의 학업스트레스와 ASE 모델 요인이 학업지속의도에 미치는 영향)

  • An analysis including ASE model accessing based on the intention of behavior performance of online university students is a new approach to improve academic persistence considering the characteristics of students with extensive personal variables, a uniqueness of learning environment. This study aimed to identify the relationship between ASE model including academic stress and academic persistence, and the effect of these factors on academic persistence of online university students. Data were collected from 181 sophomores in K open university from March to June, 2018. Frequency analysis, ${\chi}^2-test$, t-test, F-test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis used for data analysis. For factors affecting academic persistence, academic stress (${\beta}=-.16$, p=.016), online learning attitude (${\beta}=.44$, p<.001), and social support among social influential factors (${\beta}=.16$, p=.045) were statistically significant and the prediction model of academic persistence showed 29% explanation power (F=15.76, p<.001). To enhance academic persistence of online university students, it is needed to develop programs to reduce academic stress, improve attitude toward online learning, and improve social support.

A Matter of Professionalism: Academic Misconduct of Veterinary Students (수의전문직업성 측면에서 본 수의과대학 학생의 학습윤리)

  • Academic integrity guarantees the professional integrity and validity of the education and qualifications offered by the veterinary schools. In this study, we analyzed the responses of 528 veterinary students of two veterinary schools in Seoul regarding their awareness about, knowledge of, and frequency of engaging in academic misconduct. A total of 88.4 percent of the participants agreed that cheating and plagiarism by undergraduates would influence their future academic misconduct. The most common form of academic misconduct was plagiarism (71.7% in the A school, 69.5% in the B school), with falsification (40.2% in the A school, 31.7% in the B school) also reported at a high rate. Students indicated the lack of a culture of academic integrity as the main reason for academic misconduct. According to the regression analysis students' awareness and knowledge of academic integrity and their perception of peers' academic misconduct predicted a significant amount of variance of the frequency of academic misconduct. The findings of this study support that academic integrity should be learned in a flexible format from an early stage of professional development in veterinary curriculum. In parallel with the efforts of faculty, a community approach may be likely to improve the academic environment in terms of integrity.

Factors Affecting Academic Resilience of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 학업탄력성에 영향을 주는 요인)

  • Academic resilience of individual competencies that have overcome fatal or chronic adversity seen as a excessive threat in academic scene is the psychological ability to overcome stress. This study is a survey research carried try to identify the factors that affect the academic resilience of nursing students. Interpersonal communication competence and happiness to target the nursing students of the total 554 people to investigate the effect on the academic resilience, were analyzed using the SPSS version 21.0. The main results are as follows. (1) academic resilience could vary depending on the grade, living arrangements, Interpersonal relationship, personality and academic performance. (2) academic resilience had a positive correlation with interpersonal communication competence(r=.46, p<.001) and happiness(r=.35, p<.001). (3) factors that had significant impact on academic resilience of nursing students were grade(p=.002), living arrangements(p=.001), academic performance(p<.001), interpersonal communication competence(p<.001) and happiness(p<.001) and explanatory power was 36.9%. Through this study, interpersonal communication competence and happiness were identified as having the positive effect on academic resilience. As a follow-up, in order to improve academic resilience, a study to develop programs that would promote interpersonal communication competence and happiness are suggested.

Effect of Academic Engagement and Academic Self-efficacy on Problem Solving Ability of Nursing students (간호대학생의 학습열의, 학업적 자기효능감이 문제해결능력에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of academic engagement, academic self-efficacy of problem solving ability in nursing students. Data were collected from 219 nursing students in B city and analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 22.0. The degree of problem solving ability in nursing students was 4.00±0.51. There were significant differences in problem solving ability with major satisfaction(F=9.476, p<.001), class satisfaction (F=3.079, p<.001). There was positive correlation between problem solving ability and academic engagement (r=.560, p<.001), academic self-efficacy(r=.634, p<.001). There was positive correlation between academic engagement and academic self-efficacy(r=.769, p<.001). The factors affecting problem solving ability of the study subjects were academic engagement(β=.177, p=.031), academic self-efficacy(β=.498, p<.001), with an explanatory power of 41.0%. Therefore to increase aacademic engagement and academic self-efficacy of nursing students, it is necessary to develop the program for improving the problem solving ability of nursing students.

The Mediating Effect of Grit in the Relationship between Calling and Academic Achievement and Career Stress

  • In this paper, we show the career path of college students from the perspective of positive psychology. Specifically we conducted the study to investigate a role of grit in the relationship between college students' occupational calling and academic achievement and career stress. 151 college students participated in this study and they completed the Korean version of the Calling and Vocational Questionnaire, Grit Scale, and Career Stress Scale. To assess their academic achievement, participants agreed to obtain their GPA from online system. The results of this study showed that occupational calling had a positive correlation with academic achievement and negatively correlated with career stress. In addition, it was confirmed that grit mediated the relationship between calling and academic achievement and career stress. Based on these results, the positive effects of occupational calling of college students, implications of this study, and suggestions for future research are discussed.

The Effects of Children's Temperaments, Maternal Warmth, and Children's Academic Competence on the Quality of Children's Peer Relationships (학령기 아동의 기질, 어머니의 온정성 및 아동의 학업적 자기효능감이 또래관계의 질에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the pathway in which children characteristics, maternal warmth, and children's academic competence affect the quality of children's peer relationships. A total of 291 children (Mage=11.4) responded to questionnaires DOTS-R (Windle & Lerner, 1986), MBRI (Schaefer, 1959), Academic Self-Efficacy Scale (Kim & Park, 2002), and FQQ (Parker & Asher, 1993). Data were analyzed via Structural Equation Modeling. Our results indicated that children's academic competence fully mediated the association between temperament and the quality of peer relationships, whereas it was a partial mediator in relations between maternal warmth and the quality of peer relationships. A difference in terms of gender was also present in this path model. In conclusion, children's temperaments and maternal warmth affected the quality of peer relationships both directly and indirectly through children's academic competence.

  • The purpose of this study is to extend the role of Academic libraries as a local information center to link with communities. Information that can be shared by everyone, need a certain social device that makes everybody to be served equally. Irrespective of their kinds, all the libraries including Academic, public and ones should seek the way to cooperate among themselves. The regulations about the Academic library extention should be stipulated. In addition to, this study is going to suggest more about probabilities for social changes and reality than suggesting alternatives.

Effects of Individual Self-Regulated Cognitive Strategies and Public Education on Academic Achievement : Application of the Hierarchical Linear Model (개인의 자기조절 인지전략과 공교육 수업제도가 학업성취에 미치는 효과 : 위계적 선형모형의 적용)

  • This study used Hierarchical Linear Modeling analysis to investigate the effects of individual self-regulated cognitive strategies and public education on middle school students' academic achievement. Participants were 6389 (boys 3287, girls 3102) middle school students from the 2005 data of the Korea Education Longitudinal Study. Results were as follows : (1) there were significant differences among different schools in middle school students' academic achievement, i.e. 20% of variance in English achievement and 15% of variance in mathematics achievement were explained by school differences. (2) Students' elaboration and meta-cognitive strategy influenced academic achievement positively. (3) Predictor variables by ability grouping, supplementary class, and/or self-learning class had no significant effects on students' academic achievement.

The Effects of Critical Friends on the Self-Esteem and Academic Oral Presentation Ability of Teacher Students

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of critical friends on self-esteem and the academic oral presentation ability of undergraduate students. A pretest was conducted in the first week of the semester. A pre-academic oral presentation preparation was held from the second week to the seventh week and followed by pedagogical speech activities from the eighth week to the eleventh week. The research instruments are Academic oral presentation behavior and self-esteem evaluation forms. The samples were 37 third year undergraduate students, who were purposively selected from the educational technology class at the Chulalongkorn University. The statistics used for analyzing quantitative data are frequencies, means, standard deviations, one sample t-tests, and Pearson's Product-Moment Correlations. It was found that the 37 third year undergraduate teacher students had higher self-esteem at the statistically significant level of .05 and academic oral presentation scores after the activity were statistically significant at the .05 level.
