A new method of dose calculation algorithm, called GPU-accelerated Monte Carlo and collapsed cone Convolution (GMCC) was developed to improve the calculation speed of BNCT treatment planning system. The GPU-accelerated Monte Carlo routine in GMCC is used to simulate the neutron transport over whole energy range and the Collapsed Cone Convolution method is to calculate the gamma dose. Other dose components due to alpha particles and protons, are calculated using the calculated neutron flux and reaction data. The mathematical principle and the algorithm architecture are introduced. The accuracy and performance of the GMCC were verified by comparing with the FLUKA results. A water phantom and a head CT voxel model were simulated. The neutron flux and the absorbed dose obtained by the GMCC were consistent well with the FLUKA results. In the case of head CT voxel model, the mean absolute percentage error for the neutron flux and the absorbed dose were 3.98% and 3.91%, respectively. The calculation speed of the absorbed dose by the GMCC was 56 times faster than the FLUKA code. It was verified that the GMCC could be a good candidate tool instead of the Monte Carlo method in the BNCT dose calculations.
Pediatrics are more sensibility to radiation than adults and because they are organs that are not completely grown, they have a life expectancy that can be adversely affected by exposure. Therefore, the management of exposure dose is more important than the case of adult. The purpose of this study was to determine the suitability of the 10 year old phantom for the 5 year old pediatric's recommendation and the incident surface dose, and to measure the organ absorbed dose. This study is compared the organ absorbed dose and the entrance surface dose in the clinical conditions at 5 and 10 years old pediatric. Clinical 5 year old condition was slightly higher than recommendation condition and 10 year old condition was very high. In addition, recommendation condition ESD was found to be 43% higher than the ESD of the 5 year old group and the ESD of the 10 year old group was 126% higher than that of the 5 year old group. The recommended ESD at 5 years old and the ESD according to clinical imaging conditions were 31.6%. There was no significant difference between the 5 year old recommended exposure conditions and the organ absorbed dose due to clinical exposure conditions, but there was a large difference between the Chest and Pelvic. However, it was found that there was a remarkable difference when comparing the organ absorbed dose by 10 year clinical exposure conditions. Therefore, more detailed standard exposure dose for the recommended dose of pediatric should be studied.
Medical Internal Radiation Dose(MIRD) schema was developed for calculating the absorbed dose from the administered radiopharmaceuticals. With the biological distribution data and the physical properties of the radionuclide we can estimate the absorbed dose by the MIRD schema. For the thyroid cancer patients received $^{131}I$ therapy, the absorbed dose to the bone marrow is the limiting factor to the administered dose, and the duration of admission is deter-mined by the retained activity in the whole body. To monitor the whole body radioactivity, we used Eberline Smart 200 system using ionization chamber as a detector. With the time activity curve of the whole body, total body residence time was obtained. From the ICRP publication 53, the residence times of the source organs, such as kidney, urinary bladder content and stomach, were used to calculate the absorbed doses of the target organs, such as stomach, red marrow, bladder wall and remaineder total body. In 8 thyroid cancer patients with 175 mci of $^{131}I$ administered orally, the mean absorbed dose in the bladder wall was 375.1, in the stomach 285.1, red marrow 25.4 and total body 22.4 rad respectively. For the monitoring of the large administered activity, this method seemed to be quite useful.
Determination of the relation between the kerma(Kinetic Energy Released in Material) and the absorbed dose is one of the basic problems of dosimetry. Kerma and absorbed dose were measured for 6 MV X-ray from the high energy medical linear accelerator and $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray. The experimental results show that the absorbed dose in the transient equilibrium region practically coincide with the kerma in water and Al for $^{60}Co$. The maximum dose depths were $1.45g/cm^2$ for 6MV X-ray and $0.48g/cm^2\;for\;^{60}Co$ gamma-ray. The ratios of the absorbed dose at maximum build-up to the collision kerma at the surface, ($K^{att}$), were 0.949 for 6MV X-ray and 0.992 for $^{60}Co$ gamma-ray. No difference was found between water and Al when the standard field size was used. This results show that the dependence of $K^{att}$ on the material is very small.
Objective: The purpose of the study was to calculate the effective and absorbed organ doses of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in pediatric patient using personal computer-based Monte Carlo (PCXMC) software and to compare them with those measured using thermoluminescent dosimeters (TLDs) and anthropomorphic phantom. Materials and Methods: Alphard VEGA CBCT scanner was used for this study. A large field of view (FOV) (20.0 cm × 17.9 cm) was selected because it is a commonly used FOV for orthodontic analyses in pediatric patients. Ionization chamber of dose-area product (DAP) meter was located at the tube side of CBCT scanner. With the clinical exposure settings for a 10-year-old patient, DAP value was measured at the scout and main projection of CBCT. Effective and absorbed organ doses of CBCT at scout and main projection were calculated using PCXMC and PCXMCRotation software respectively. Effective dose and absorbed organ doses were compared with those obtained by TLDs and a 10-year-old child anthropomorphic phantom at the same exposure settings. Results: The effective dose of CBCT calculated by PCXMC software was 292.6 μSv, and that measured using TLD and anthropomorphic phantom was 292.5 μSv. The absorbed doses at the organs largely contributing to effective dose showed the small differences between two methods within the range from -18% to 20%. Conclusion: PCXMC software might be used as an alternative to the TLD measurement method for the effective and absorbed organ dose estimation in CBCT of large FOV in pediatric patients.
In recent years, 3D printing technology has received significant research attention. Additionally, 3D printing technology is being applied to study radiation dosimeters of various materials. In this study, a plastic scintillator for 3D printing was developed in a laboratory and used to manufacture a plastic scintillation dosimeter (PSD) with a shape identical to that of the ionization chamber PTW31010. The 16-mm beam of Gamma Knife® Perfexion™ was irradiated to derive the absorbed dose rates of the PSD and PTW31010; they were subsequently compared with the dose rates of the treatment plan. The differences in the dose rates of the Gamma Knife treatment plan and the absorbed dose rates of PTW31010 were within 0.87%. The difference between the dose rates of the Gamma Knife treatment plan and the absorbed dose rates of the PSD were within 4.1%. A linear fit of the absorbed dose rates of four shots involving different dose rates and irradiation angles yielded an adjusted R-square value exceeding 0.9999. A total of 10 repeated measurements were conducted for the same shot to confirm its reproducibility, with a relative error of 0.56%.
In this study, the highly sensitive $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs has been fabricated for the purpose of measurement of high energy electron. $CaSO_4:Tm$ phosphor powder was mixed with polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE) powder and moulded in a disk type(diameter 8.5 mm. thickness $90\;mg/cm^2$) by cold pressing. The absorbed dose distribution and ranges for high energy electron were measured by using the $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs. The ranges determined were $R_{100}=14.5mm$, $R_{50}=24.1mm$ and $R_P=31.8mm$, respectively and the beam flatness, the variation of relative dose in 80% of the field size, was 4.5%. The fabricated $CaSO_4:Tm$-PTFE TLDs nay be utilized in radiation dosimetry for personal, absorbed dose and environmental monitoring.
The measured mean activities of $^{226}Ra,\;^{232}Th,\;^{40}K\;and\;^{137}Cs$ in the soil of Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahimyar Khan Bistricts were 32.9, 53.6, 647.4 and 1.8 Bq $kg^{-1}$. The average absorbed dose rate calculated from these activities was 74.3 nGy $h^{-1}$ and the mean annual effective dose rate was found to be 0.46 mSv $y^{-1}$. Absorbed doses to different body organs were derived from annual effective doses using tissue weighting factors. Radiation induced fatal cancer risks were assessed by using ICRP 60 Model. Estimations incurred 184deaths per year due to cancer.

Purpose : Evaluating absorbed dose related to 2D and 3D imaging confirmation devices Materials and Methods : According to the radiographic projection conditions, absorbed doses are measured that 3 glass dosimeters attached to the centers of 0', 90', 180' and 270' in the head, thorax and abdomen each with Rando phantom are used in field size $26.6{\times}20$, $15{\times}15$. In the same way, absorbed doses are measured for width 16cm and 10cm of CBCT each. OBI(version 1.5) system and calibrated glass dosimeters are used for the measurement. Results : AP projection for 2D imaging check, In $0^{\circ}$ degree absorbed doses measured in the head were $1.44{\pm}0.26mGy$ with the field size $26.6{\times}20$, $1.17{\pm}0.02mGy$ with the field size $15{\times}15$. With the same method, absorbed doses in the thorax were $3.08{\pm}0.86mGy$ to $0.57{\pm}0.02mGy$ by reducing field size. In the abdomen, absorbed dose were reduced $8.19{\pm}0.54mGy$ to $4.19{\pm}0.09mGy$. Finally according to the field size, absorbed doses has decreased by average 5~12%. With Lateral projection, absorbed doses showed average 5~8% decrease. CBCT for 3D imaging check, CBDI in the head were $4.39{\pm}0.11mGy$ to $3.99{\pm}0.13mGy$ by reducing the width 16cm to 10cm. In the same way in thorax the absorbed dose were reduced $34.88{\pm}0.93(10.48{\pm}0.09)mGy$ to $31.01{\pm}0.3(9.30{\pm}0.09)mGy$ and $35.99{\pm}1.86mGy$ to $32.27{\pm}1.35mGy$ in the abdomen. With variation of width 16cm and 10cm, they showed 8~11% decrease. Conclusion : By means of reducing 2D field size, absorbed dose were decreased average 5~12% in 3D width size 8~11%. So that it is necessary for radiation therapists to recognize systematical management for absorbed dose for Imaging confirmation. and also for frequent CBCT, it is considered whether or not prescribed dose for RT refer to imaging dose.
As the breast cancer rate is increasing fast in Korean women, people pay more attention to mammography and number of mammography have been increasing dramatically over the last few years. Mammography is the only means to diagnose breast cancer early, but harms caused by radiation exposure shouldn't be overlooked. Therefore, it is important to calculate the radiation dose being absorbed into the breast tissue during the process of mammography for a protective measure against radiation exposure. Because it is impossible to directly measure the radiation dose being absorbed into the human body, statistical calculation methods are commonly used, and most of them are supposed to simulate the interaction between radiation and matter by describing the human body internal structure with anthropomorphic phantoms. However, a simulation using Geant4 Code of Monte Carlo Method, which is well-known as most accurate in calculating the absorbed dose inside the human body, helps calculate exact dose by recreating the anatomical human body structure as it is through the DICOM file of CT. To calculate the absorbed dose in the breast tissue, therefore, this study carried out a simulation using Geant4 Code, and by using the DICOM converted file provided by Geant4, this study changed the human body structure expressed on the CT image data into geometry needed for this simulation. Besides, this study attempted to verify if the dose calculation of Geant4 interlocking with the DICOM file is useful, by comparing the calculated dose provided by this simulation and the measured dose provided by the PTW ion chamber. As a result, under the condition of 28kVp/190mAs, the Difference(%) between the measured dose and the calculated dose was found to be 0.08 %~0.33 %, and at 28 kVp/70 mAs, the Difference(%) of dose was 0.01 %~0.16 %, both of which showed results within 2%, the effective difference range. Therefore, this study found out that calculation of the absorbed dose using Geant4 Simulation is useful in measuring the absorbed dose in the breast tissue for mammography.
