A glassy carbon electrode (GCE) modified with 2,2':6':2”-terpyridine (2,2':6':2”-TPR) using a spin coating method was applied for the highly selective and sensitive analysis of a trace amount of $Hg_2^{2+}$ ions. Various experimental parameters, which influenced the response of the 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode to $Hg_2^{2+}$ ions, were optimized. The linear sweep and differential pulse voltammograms for the 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode deposited with Hg show a well-defined anodic peak at +0.65 V (vs. Ag|AgCl). After a 25 min preconcentration time in an $Hg_2^{2+}$ ion solution (0.1 M acetate buffer, pH 5.0), differential pulse voltammetry(DPV) with 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified electrode shows a linear response between $1.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}M\;and\;2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-7}M$. The least-square treatment of these data produce an equation of I[${\mu}A$] = 0.031 + 0.005C with r = 0.980(n = 5). The detection limit of this electrode with linear sweep voltammetry and differential pulse anodic voltammetry were $2.0\;{\times}\;10^{-6}M\;and\;8.0\;{\times}\;10^{-8}M$, respectively. The presence of Pb, Fe, Cd, Ti, Ni, Co, Mg, Al, Mn, and Zn did not interfere in the analysis of the $Hg_2^{2+}$ ion. The 2,2':6':2”-TPR modified GCE has been successfully applied in determination trace amounts of Hg in a human urine sample.

Piezoelectric thick films of soft $Pb(Zr,Ti)O_3$ (PZT) based commercial material (S55) were fabricated using a conventional tape casting method. Ag-Pd electrodes were printed on the piezoelectric film at room temperature and all 5 layered films with a dimension of $12mm{\times}16mm$ were successfully laminated for a multi-layered piezoelectric ceramic actuator. The laminated specimens were co-fired at $1,100^{\circ}C$ for 1 h. A flat layered and dense microstructure was obtained for the $112{\mu}m$ thick piezoelectric actuator after sintering process. Thereafter, a prototype piezoelectric speaker was fabricated using the multi-layered piezoelectric ceramic actuator which can operate as a bimorph. Its SPL (sound pressure level) characteristic was also evaluated for speaker application. Frequency response revealed that the output SPL with a root mean square voltage of 10 V increased gradually to the highest peak of 87.5 dB for 1.5 kHz and exhibited a relatively stable behavior over the measured frequency range (${\leq}20kHz$) at a distance of 10 cm, implying that the fabricated piezoelectric speaker is potential for speaker applications.
ZrN nanoparticles were prepared by an exothermic reduction of $ZrCl_4$ with $NaN_3$ in the presence of NaCl flux in a nitrogen atmosphere. Using a solid-state combustion approach, we have demonstrated that the zirconium nitride nanoparticles synthesis process can be completed in only several minutes compared with a few hours for previous synthesis approaches. The chemistry of the combustion process is not complex and is based on a metathesis reaction between $ZrCl_4$ and $NaN_3$. Because of the low melting and boiling points of the raw materials it was possible to synthesize the ZrN phase at low combustion temperatures. It was shown that the combustion temperature and the size of the particles can be readily controlled by tuning the concentration of the NaCl flux. The results show that an increase in the NaCl concentration (from 2 to 13 M) results in a temperature decrease from 1280 to $750^{\circ}C$. ZrN nanoparticles have a high surface area (50-70 $m^2/g$), narrow pore size distribution, and nano-particle size between 10 and 30 nm. The activation energy, which can be extracted from the experimental combustion temperature data, is: E = 20 kcal/mol. The method reported here is self-sustaining, rapid, and can be scaled up for a large scale production of a transition metal nitride nanoparticle system (TiN, TaN, HfN, etc.) with suitable halide salts and alkali metal azide.

To study the possibility of agricultural utilization of seafood processing wastewater sludges, the change of temperature, decreasing ratio of weight generation quantity of $CO_2$ and $NH_3$, and contents of inorganic elements for composting by adding different rates of zeolite and livestock manure to seafood processing wastewater sludges were investigated. Changes of temperature, decreasing ratio of total weight and generation quantity of $CO_2$ were not little different with increasing addition rates of zeolite for composting. But the less addition quantity of livestock manure is, the higher were temperature and decreasing ratio weight for composting. Ceneration quantity of $NH_3$ in composting materials as adding zeolite ti 5, 10 and 20% and livestock manure to 50, 65 and 80% were 68, 61 and $46mg/kgvs{\cdot}hr$, respectively, for composting periods. So, $NH_3$ generated little quantity as much as possible addition of zeolite and manure. Contents of T-C and T-N little decreased and C/N ratio little increased after composting than before. Content of $P_2O_5$, $K_2O$, CaO also increased a little, that of MgO is not different and that of Mn decreased very sharply in all conditions after composting than before.

This paper describes the power generating property of hydrothermally grown ZnO nanorods on a flexible polyethersulfone (PES) substrate. The piezoelectric currents generated by the ZnO nanorods were measured when bending the ZnO nanorod by using I-AFM, and the measured piezoelectric currents ranged from 60 to 100 pA. When the PtIr coated tip bends a ZnO nanorod, piezoelectrical asymmetric potential is created on the nanorod surface. The Schottky barrier at the ZnO-metal interface accumulates elecntrons and then release very quickly generating the currents when the tip moves from tensile to compressed part of ZnO nanorod. These ZnO nanorods were grown almost vertically with the length of 300-500 nm and the diameter of 30-60 nm on the Ag/Ti/PES substrate at $90^{\circ}C$ for 6 hours by hydrothermal method. The metal-semiconductor interface property was evaluated by using a HP 4145B Semiconductor Parameter Analyzer and the piezoelectric effect of the ZnO nanorods were evaluated by using an I-AFM. From the measured I-V characteristics, it was observed that ZnO-Ag and ZnO-Au metal-semiconductor interfaces showed an ohmic and a Schottky contact characteristics, respectively. ANSYS finite element simulation was performed in order to understand the power generation mechanism of the ZnO nanorods under applied external stress theoretically.
This research compared three methods for producing and processing nanocomposite polypropylene filament yarns with permanent antimicrobial efficiency. The three methods used to mix antimicrobial agents based on silver nano particles with PP were as follows: 1) mixing of PP powder and inorganic nanocomposite filler with the appropriate concentration using a twin-screw extruder and preparing granules, 2) method 1 with a singlerather than twin-screw extruder, and 3) producing the masterbatch by a twin-screw extruder and blending it with PP in the melt spinning process. All pure polypropylene samples and other combined samples had an acceptable spinnability at the spinning temperature of $240^{\circ}C$ and take-up speed of 2,000 m/min. After producing as-spun filament yarns by a pilot plant, melt spinning machine, the samples were drawn, textured and finally weft knitted. The physical and structural properties (e.g., linear density, tenacity, breaking elongation, initial modulus, rupture work, shrinkage and crystallinity) of the as-spun and drawn yarns with constant and variable draw ratios (the variable draw ratio was used to gain a constant breaking elongation of 50%) were investigated and compared, while DSC, SEM and FTIR techniques were used to characterize the samples. Finally, the antibacterial efficiency of the knitted samples was evaluated. The experimental results revealed that the crystallinity reduction of the as-spun yarn obtained from method 1 (5%) was more than that of method 2 (3%), while the crystallinity of the modified as-spun yarns obtained with method 3 remained unchanged compared to pure yarn. However, the drawing procedure compensated for this difference. By applying methods 2 and 3, the drawing generally improved the tenacity and modulus of the modified fibers, whereas method 1 degraded the constant draw ratio. Although the biostatic efficiency of the nanocomposite yarns was excellent with all three methods, the modified fabrics obtained from methods 1 and 2 showed a higher bioactivity.

Pure $BiFeO_3$ (BFO) and codoped $Bi_{0.9}A_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (A=Eu, Dy) thin films were prepared on Pt(111)/Ti/$SiO_2$/Si(100) substrates by chemical solution deposition. The remnant polarizations (2Pr) of the $Bi_{0.9}Eu_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BEFZO) and $Bi_{0.9}Dy_{0.1}Fe_{0.975}Zn_{0.025}O_{3-{\delta}}$ (BDFZO) thin films were about 36 and $26{\mu}C/cm^2$ at the maximum electric fields of 900 and 917 kV/cm, respectively, at 1 kHz. The codoped BEFZO and BDFZO thin films showed improved electrical properties, and leakage current densities of 3.68 and $1.21{\times}10^{-6}A/cm^2$, respectively, which were three orders of magnitude lower than that of the pure BFO film, at 100 kV/cm.
Power quality has always been a concern of power engineers. Certainly an argument can be successfully made that most parts of power engineering have the ultimate objective to improve power quality. AC motors were widely used in industrial and domestic applications. Generally, AC motors were of two types: Induction and Synchronous motors. In motor many parameters like different load cycling, switching, working in hot weather and unbalances creates harmonics which creates major reasons for temperature rise of the motors. Due to high peak value of voltage, harmonics can weaken insulation in cables, windings and capacitors and different electronic components. Higher value of harmonics increase the motor current and decrease the power factor which will reduce the life time of the motor and increase the overall rating of all electrical equipments. Harmonics reduction of all the motors in India will save more power. Coating of windings of the motor with nano fillers will reduce the amount of harmonics in the motor. Based on the previous project works, actions were taken to use the enamel filled with various nano fillers for the coating of the windings of the different AC motors. Ball mill method was used to convert the micro particles of Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO into nano particles. SEM, TEM and XRD were used to augment the particle size of the powder. The synthesized nano powders were mixed with the enamel by using ultrasonic vibrator. Then the enamel mixed with the nano fillers was coated to the windings of the several AC motors. Harmonics were measured in terms of various indices like THD, VHD, CHD and DIN by using Harmonic analyzer. There are many other measures and indices to describe power quality, but none is applicable in all cases and in many instances, these indices may hide more than they show. Sometimes power quality indices were used as a basis of comparison and standardization. The efficiency of the motors was increased by 5 – 10 %. The thermal withstanding capacity of the motor was increased by 5º to 15º C. The harmonics of the motors were reduced by 10 – 50%.
This paper describes the implementation of a multi-channel audio codec for HETV. This codec has the features of the 3/2-stereo plus low frequency enhancement, downward compatibility with the smaller number of channels, backward compatibility with the existing 2/0-stereo system(MPEG-1 audio), and multilingual capability. The encoder of this codec consists of 6-channel analog audio input part with the sampling rate of 48 kHz, 4-channel digital audio input part and three TMS320C40 /DSPs. The encoder implements multi-channel audio compression using a human perceptual psychoacoustic model, and has the bit rate reduction to 384 kbit/s without impairment of subjective quality. The decoder consists of 6-channel analog audio output part, 4-channel digital audio output part, and two TMS320C40 DSPs for a decoding procedure. The decoder analyzes the bit stream received with bit rate of 384 kbit/s from the encoder and reproduces the multi-channel audio signals for analog and digital outputs. The multi-processing of this audio codec using multiple DSPs is ensured by high speed transfer of date between DSPs through coordinating communication port activities with DMA coprocessors. Finally, some technical considerations are suggested to realize the problem of real-time operation, which are found out through the implementation of this codec using the MPEG-2 layer II sudio coding algorithm and the use of the hardware architecture with commercial multiple DSPs.
This study investigated the relative degradation of commonly known endocrine-disrupting compounds such as bisphenol A (BPA) and 17${\beta}$-estradiol (E2) using ultrasound (US) and pulsed ultraviolet (PUV) in water. The removal efficiency of BPA and E2 was determined as a function of generating power and $H_{2}O_{2}$ production. The ultrasound and PUV irradiation of the aqueous solution was performed in 3 L and 90 L stainless reactor at a constant temperature of $20^{\circ}C$ with an applied power of 200 W and 2000 W, respectively. The removal of BPA and E2 by US and PUV varied with catalysts. The experiments were conducted under the following conditions: total operating time, 30 min; initial concentration, 1 uM. In the case of E2 (10 min), % removal was 92.5/95.8/87.6/82.4, while % removal of BPA (10 min) was 62.3/82.3/91.1/67.0/64.3 in various conditions (PUV, $PUV+H_2O_2$, PUV+wire mesh, $PUV+TiO_2$ coated wire mesh), respectively.
