FUNCTIONAL VERIFICATION OF A SAFETY CLASS CONTROLLER FOR NPPS USING A UVM REGISTER MODEL

  • A highly reliable safety class controller for NPPs (Nuclear Power Plants) is mandatory as even a minor malfunction can lead to disastrous consequences for people, the environment or the facility. In order to enhance the reliability of a safety class digital controller for NPPs, we employed a diversity approach, in which a PLC-type controller and a PLD-type controller are to be operated in parallel. We built and used structured testbenches based on the classes supported by UVM for functional verification of the PLD-type controller designed for NPPs. We incorporated a UVM register model into the testbenches in order to increase the controllability and the observability of the DUT(Device Under Test). With the increased testability, we could easily verify the datapaths between I/O ports and the register sets of the DUT, otherwise we had to perform black box tests for the datapaths, which is very cumbersome and time consuming. We were also able to perform constrained random verification very easily and systematically. From the study, we confirmed the various advantages of using the UVM register model in verification such as scalability, reusability and interoperability, and set some design guidelines for verification of the NPP controllers.

  • 본 연구에서는 Davison이 제안한 견실 제어이론을 응용하여, 자기베어링에 의 해서 지지되는 로터계를 위한 중앙 집중식 서보제어기를 설계하였다. 삼각함수 형태 의 외란과 지령치에 대한 완벽한 영향회피와 추적을 위하여, 일반적 서보보상기(serv- ocompensator)를 MIMO 제어기에 내장하였다. 또한, 상기 제어기의 일부분(subset)으 로서, 중앙집중식 PID 제어기를 제안하였다. 제2장에 자기베어링에 의해 지지되는 강체 로터계의 동적 모델을 요약하였으며, 제3장에서 제어기법의 구축을 설명하고, 두 가지 형태의 제어기에 대한 성능 비교와 견실성의 한계를 보여주는 시뮬레이션 결과를 제 4장에 제시하였다.

Optimal Placement of Phasor Measurement Unit for Observation Reliability Enhancement

  • Phasor Measurement Unit (PMU) placement is a crucial problem for State Estimation (SE) of the power system, which can ensure that the power network is fully observed. Further, the observation reliability problem of the system has been concerned in the operation conditions. In this paper, based on modified weighted adjacent matrix ($A_w$), an optimal placement method is proposed to solve simultaneously two problems involving the optimal PMU placement problem and the observation reliability enhancement problem of the system. The purpose of the proposed method is to achieve both the minimum total cost and the maximum observation reliability, with a focus on increasing the security of observability, strengthening the observation reliability of buses as well as enhancing the effectiveness of redundancy. Simulations on IEEE 14, 24, 30 and 57 bus test systems are presented to justify the methodology. The results of this study show that the proposed method is not only ensuring the power network having the observability effectively but also enhancing significantly the observation reliability. Therefore, it can be a useful tool for SE of the power system.

  • This paper presents an improved algorithm of optimal measurement system design with a reliability evaluation method for a large power system. The proposed algorithm is developed to cosider the observability and to achieve highest accuracy of the state estimator as well with the limited investment cost. When the effect on these dummy bus measurements is considered in the proposed algorithm the other errors in the power system is also detected and then analyzed until to achieve the limited values. By taking advantage of the matrix sparsity and the optimal bus ordering the memory and the time are successfully reduced in the P/C's and workstation's model. The improved program is successfully tested for IEEK sample system and KEPCO system with PSS/E lineflow calculated data package.

Power System Enhanced Monitoring through Strategic PMU Placement Considering Degree of Criticality of Buses

  • This paper proposes a method for optimal placement of Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs) considering system configuration and its attributes during the planning phase of PMU deployment. Each bus of the system is assessed on four diverse attributes; namely, redundancy of measurements, rotor angle and frequency monitoring of generator buses, reactive power deficiency, and maximum loading limit under transmission line outage contingency, and a consolidated 'degree of criticality' is determined using Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). The major contribution of the proposed work is the development of modified objective function which incorporates values of the degree of criticality of buses. The problem is formulated as maximization of the aggregate degree of criticality of the system. The resultant PMU configuration extends complete observability of the system and majority of the PMUs are located on critical buses. As budgetary restrictions on utilities may not allow installation PMUs even at optimal locations in a single phase, multi-horizon deployment of PMUs is also addressed. The proposed approach is tested on IEEE 14-bus, IEEE 30-bus, New England (NE) 39-bus, IEEE 57-bus and IEEE 118-bus systems and compared with some existing methods.

투명 전도성 코팅체의 전자기적, 광학적 성능 설계 및 분석에 관한 연구 (A Study on Design of an Electromagnetic and Optical Characteristics in Transparent Conductor Coated Structures)

  • In order to avoid the high observability due to the cavity resonance or electromagnetic wave leakages from the bridge of a battleship or the cockpit of an aircraft, this paper presents a transparent conductive oxide coated structure to prevent the incoming/outgoing electromagnetic waves. Currently, most of the RCS reduction technologies were focused on radar absorbing material such as paints based on conductive or magnetic materials in the fuselage, and there is not much research on countermeasures for achieving the low observability of materials that required optical transparency in actual weapon systems. In this study, the transmission/reflection and absorption performance of the ITO coated structure according to the change of the surface resistance of the transparent conductor were analyzed. Finally, the relationship between the electromagnetic and optical characteristics was established through fabrication and measurement.

  • 이 연구는 초 중등 교원을 대상으로 혁신확산모형에서 제안하는 혁신 속성 변인들을 기반으로 디지털교과서의 수용을 결정하는 요인을 규명하고, 정보기술수용모형(TAM)을 보다 확장된 모형으로 제안하고 검증하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위해 관찰가능성, 적합성, 주관적 규범을 외생변인으로, 유용성과 사용용이성, 사용의도를 내생변인으로 설정하는 연구모형을 제안하였다. 연구결과 관찰가능성, 적합성, 주관적 규범은 교사의 디지털교과서 사용의도에 영향을 미치는 주요한 외재적 변인이며, 본 연구에서 제안한 확장된 정보기술수용모형은 적합함을 검증하였다.

  • Observable mathematical model of DDM (Direct Dirve Motor) was suggested. The motor that operates the object system directly is called DDM. DDM has many strong points, however, it has a significant disadvantage, that it is more sensitive to the external force than the motor with reduction gear. In other word, if the force is applied, air gap of the motor can be perturbed. This causes not only difficulty in motor control but also even more serious problem, such as the breakdown of motor. However, if the air gap variation can be estimated, it can help prevent these problems. DDM should be modeled to estimate the air gap variation. The type of researched DDM is PMSM (Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor) and precedent model of PMSM includes only characteristics of electro-magnetic system and rotational motion. However, suggested model should also include characteristics of translational motion of rotor to estimate the air gap variation. Also, this model should satisfy observability condition, because state observer is designed based on this model.

  • This paper considers a stochastic discrete algebraic Riccati equation, which is a generalized version of the well-known standard discrete algebraic Riccati equation, and has additional linear terms. Under controllability, observability and the assumption that the additional terms are not too large, the existence of a positive definite solution is guaranteed. It is shown that it arises in optimal control of a linear discrete-time system with multiplicative White noise and quadratic cost. A numerical example is given.
