Growth characteristics and productivity of new Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) variation, IR 604

  • This experiment was carried out to breed a medium maturing variety of Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in Grassland and Forage Crops Division, National Institute of Animal Science, Rural Development Administration (RDA), Cheonan from 2019 to 2020. An Italian ryegrass variety, IR 604 is a tetraploid variety with green in leaf color and has half-erect growth habit in late autumn and erect growth habit in early spring, IR 604 was on May 17 in heading date as a medium maturing variety. Also, IR 604 was longer by 11 cm in flag leaf length and longer by 1.3 cm in plant height than those of the control variety, Kowinner, respectively. IR 604 was also thicker by 1.0 mm in stem thickness and strong in winter hardness. Dry matter (DM) yield (11,036 kg/ha) of IR 604 was 16.6% higher than that of Kowinner. Total digestible nutrient (TDN), crude protein (CP) and relative feed value (RFV) of IR 604 were 60.4, 13.8% and 100.6 which are 1.4, 3.3%, 7.7 higher than those of Kowinner, respectively. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of IR 604 were 35.5 and 56.7% which are 1.3 and 3.6% lower than those of Kowinner, respectively.

Development and Characterization of New Tall fescue Variety 'Greenmaster4ho' (톨 페스큐 신품종 '그린마스터4호'의 품종 특성 및 수량성)

  • A new variety of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) named 'Greenmaster4ho' was developed during the cultivation year 2010-2017 at Grassland and Forages Division, National Institute of Animal Science, Rural Development Administration, Cheonan, Korea. In order to produce this new variety, 5 superior tall fescue lines including 12XFa07, 12XFa15, 12XFa24, 12XFa46, and 12XFa48 were polycrossed. The new variety Greenmaster4ho was evaluated in field test (Cheonan, Pyeongchang, Jeju, and Jinju) for determining the agronomic growth characteristics and forage production capability during 3 years (2015-2017). The dry matter yield (16,236 kg/ha) of Greenmaster4ho was 5 % higher than Fawn, but the nutritive value as forage crops was not significantly different with Fawn. Development of new tall fescue variety with excellent adaptability to changing unfavorable environment would be useful for forage cultivation and yield in Korean environment.

  • Recently there are so many media contents created and used by variety routes. Therefore, it is essential to make a new platform which is used for distributing media contents include IPTV. With open IPTV service, developing the new platform became even more important. Because open IPTV makes it possible for consumers to choose contents regardless of contents of the providers. The new platform has to accept current variety service structure. MPEG-21 multimedia framework was developed to satisfy these needs. It presented the distribution framework of the contents but didn't restrict the particular solutions for protecting the rights. In this paper, we present authoring and consuming system for package contents based on MPEG-21 Multimedia Framework for distributing media resources and managing the license of multimedia contents

  • We describe a new method to initialize the raster and convergence of a flat intelligent tracking (F!T) tube. By splitting up the initialization algorithm into three parts, it can comply with the variety of boundary conditions that are stated for a consumer product. Experiments on raster initialization have shown that the new algorithm speeds up the initialization by one order of magnitude.

A Cold-Tolerant and High-yielding Italian Ryegrass New Variety, 'Kowinner' (내한 다수성 이탈리안 라이그라스 신품종 '코위너')

  • This experiment was carried out to breed the cold-tolerant variety of Italian ryegrass(Lolium multiflorum Lam.) in Grassland and Forages Division, National Livestock Research Institute, RDA, Suwon from 1987 to 2005. New variety, Kowinner as a tetraploid variety was dark green in leaf color and growth habit in autumn and early spring was semi-prostrate and medium, respectively Kowinner as a medium or late-heading variety was 19th May in heading date. Flag leaf length of Kowinner was 29 cm that was the same as control variety, Hwasan 101. Length of longest stem and plant length of Kowinner were 70 cm and 97 cm that was longer 3 cm than those of Hwasan 101, respectively. Stem width of Kowinner was thicker than that of Hwasan 101. Expecially, Kowinner was very good in regrowth. Cold tolerance of Kowinner was slightly weaker than that of Hwasan 101 and slightly stronger than that of Florida 80. Dry matter(DM) yield(12,884 kg/ha) of Kowinner was 8% more than that of Hwasan 101. In vitro dry matter digestibility and total digestible nutrient(TDN) of Kowinner were 76.2 and 63.3% that was 1.6 and 0.4% lower than those of Hwasan 101, respectively.

New variety of Ryegrass, 'Green Call' is a diploid variety with green in leaf color and has semi-erect growth habit in late autumn and erect growth habit in early spring, 'Green Call' was on April 25 in heading date as a early-maturing variety. Also 'Green Call' was narrower by 2 mm in flag leaf width, longer by 1.3 cm in flag leaf length and shorter by 5 cm in plant height than those of control variety, 'Florida 80', respectively. 'Green Call' was also thicker by 0.14 mm in stem thickness and strong in winter hardness. Dry matter (DM) yield (11,592 kg/ha) of 'Green Call' was similar to that of 'Florida 80'. Total digestible nutrient (TDN), crude protein (CP) and relative feed value (RFV) of 'Green Call' were 60.8, 10.3 and 96.7 % which are 2.1, 1.1, 6.9 % higher than those of 'Florida 80', respectively. Acid detergent fiber (ADF) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) of 'Green Call' were 35.5 and 58.9 % which are 2.7 and 2.3 % lower than those of 'Florida 80', respectively.

Mycelial growth and fruit body cultural characteristics of a new Grifola frondosa variety, 'Bakyeon' (잎새버섯 신품종 '백연' 균사배양 및 자실체 생육 특성)

  • This study was conducted to reduce the phenomenon of the biased cultivation of certain mushroom varieties and to develop a competitive variety of Grifola frondosa. We developed the first Korean white commercial mushroom strain, 'Bakyeon', by crossing monokaryons derived from brown strains. We have collected and tested the characteristics of mushrooms from domestic and international genetic resources since 2018. We bred the unique domestic variety, 'Bakyeon', which has the following characteristics. The optimal temperature for mycelial growth was 25~28℃ and the optimal temperature for fruit body growth was 16~18℃. The new variety was similar to the control variety (Daebak) in terms of the pileus, which formed a pine cone shape, and the number of days of cultivation. The yield was 94.1 g/bottle, which was 23% lower than the 108.5 g/bottle yield of the control variety. When incubating the parent and control varieties, the replacement line was clear. Moreover, polymerase chain reaction analysis of mycelial DNA resulted in different band patterns between the parent and control varieties, confirming the hybrid species.

  • A new silkworm variety, Chugangjam, with a sex-limited larval marking and high silk yielding for summer-autumn rearing season is $F_1$ hybrid between Jam 147, a Japanese race bred from P8503/8453, and Jam 148, a Chinese race from M8306/Jam 130. Jam 147, Japanese parent of the Chugangjam showed a high GCA (general combining ability) in pupation percentage and Jam 148, Chinese parent, showed a high GCA in pupation percentage and single cocoon weight. In the local adaptability test performed at 8 local areas in autumn of 2001, Chugangjam was 5% higher in cocoon yield and 8% in raw silk productivity in the 10,000 of the 3rd molted larvae, respectively, than the check variety Daesungjam.

  • A new pasqueflower (Pulsatilla koreana) variety, 'Gyeobi,' was derived from a mutation of native P. koreana at the Jeollanamdo Agricultural Research and Extension Services (JARES) in Naju, Korea. The 'Gyoebi' was obtained by treating seeds with 3 mM of a chemical mutagen, sodium azide, for 16 hr in 2001. The variety was established in 2005 after two years of selective breeding. 'Gyeobi' is characterized by reddish purple flowers with 12 double petals. The inherent characteristics of the variety are deep yellow anthers and reddish purple stigmas. The agronomic characteristics of the variety are 6.3 flowers per plant, 26.4 cm in flower height, 14.2 cm in leaf length, 7.5 cm in flower width, and 11.0 cm in bract width.

  • A new powdery mildew resistant squash (Cucurbita moschata Duch.) 'Miso' was bred from a cross between powdery mildew resistant true variety 'Sangol' and powdery mildew susceptible inbred line 'Seoulmadi' at National Institute of Horticultural & Herbal Science (NIHHS). The 'Miso' variety was vigorous and highly resistant to powdery mildew. It showed white green fruit color. The variety yielded 21.3MT/ha which is 52% more than control variety.
