Poor People and Poor Health: Examining the Mediating Effect of Unmet Healthcare Needs in Korea

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to estimate the mediating effect of subjective unmet healthcare needs on poor health. The mediating effect of unmet needs on health outcomes was estimated. Methods: Cross-sectional research method was used to analyze Korea Health Panel data from 2011 to 2015, investigating the mediating effect for each annual dataset and lagged dependent variables. Results: The magnitude of the effect of low income on poor health and the mediating effect of unmet needs were estimated using age, sex, education level, employment status, healthcare insurance status, disability, and chronic disease as control variables and self-rated health as the dependent variable. The mediating effect of unmet needs due to financial reasons was between 14.7% to 32.9% of the total marginal effect, and 7.2% to 18.7% in lagged model. Conclusions: The fixed-effect logit model demonstrated that the existence of unmet needs raised the likelihood of poor self-rated health. However, only a small proportion of the effects of low income on health was mediated by unmet needs, and the results varied annually. Further studies are necessary to search for ways to explain the varying results in the Korea Health Panel data, as well as to consider a time series analysis of the mediating effect. The results of this study present the clear implication that even though it is crucial to address the unmet needs, but it is not enough to tackle the income related health inequalities.

  • Purpose: This study determined acculturative stress' effect on the life satisfaction of multicultural adolescents based on Roy's Adaptation Model and some earlier studies. Further, it examined the sequential multiple mediating effects of bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal on life satisfaction. Methods: Participants included 1,163 multicultural adolescents who participated in the sixth Multicultural Adolescents Panel Study. A hypothesis test was conducted using Hayes' Process Macro Model 81. Results: Life satisfaction increased with a decline in acculturative stress. Each of bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal had a single mediating effect on the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction in multicultural adolescents. The sequential multiple mediating effects of bicultural acceptance attitude and self-esteem were confirmed significant after their impact on the relationship between acculturative stress and life satisfaction was analyzed. Bicultural acceptance attitude and social withdrawal were found to have a significant sequential multiple mediating effect on the relationship, as well. Conclusion: This study's results demonstrate that acculturative stress reduction is critical to improving multicultural adolescents' life satisfaction. Bicultural acceptance attitude, self-esteem, and social withdrawal have a single mediating or sequential multiple mediating effect on the relationship between multicultural adolescents' acculturative stress and life satisfaction. The findings, which highlight mediating effects, indicate that by increasing bicultural acceptance attitude and self-esteem, and reducing social withdrawal, multicultural adolescents' life satisfaction can be improved.

The Mediating Effects of Self-Control and Impulsiveness On Self-Esteem and Smart Phone Addition In College Students

  • This study aimed to analyse the effects of self-control and impulsiveness of college students on smart phone addition and whether self-esteem has mediating effects on them. For the purposes, this study interviewed 4-year college students in Gwangju City with the use of a questionnaire and 314 copies of the responses were used for a final analysis. The data collected was analysed with the use of SPSS 22.0 and the results are presented as follows: First, behavior impulsiveness has a positive effect on self-esteem and smart phone addiction. Second, self-esteem had a positive effect on smart phone addiction. Third, it was discovered that behavior impulsiveness had a positive effect on smart phone addiction through an analysis of mediating effects while self-esteem had an indirect effect on it. Therefore, it was suggested that more care should be paid on smart phone addiction and development of programs against it should be facilitated.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study analyzes the effect of psychological safety on innovative behavior mediated by job crafting. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected 221 survey data from employees in Korea. Collected data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 and Macro Process. The multiple regression analysis and bootstrap analysis were hired in order to analyze the data. Findings - First, psychological safety had a significant effect on innovation behavior. Second, job crafting proved a mediating effect in the relationship between psychological safety and innovation behavior. In other words, it has been demonstrated empirically that task crafting, cognitive crafting, and relational crafting, which are sub-elements of job crafting, play a mediating role in the relationship between psychological safety and innovative behavior. Research implications or Originality - This study expanded the study of Job Crafting in that it revealed the mediating role of Job Crafting in the relationship of psychological safety and innovative behavior. Second, this study has novelty in that it has established a sense of psychological safety as an independent variable that promotes innovative behavior, and that it has examined each other's structural relationship by adding a variable called Job Crafting.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 조직공정성이 임상간호사의 이직의도에 미치는 영향에서 조직침묵의 매개효과와 상사의 부정적 피드백거부성향의 조절된 매개효과를 확인하기 위함이다. 대상자는 300병상 이상 종합병원에 재직 중인 간호사 220명이다. 본 연구결과 절차공정성이 이직의도에 영향을 미칠 때 체념적 침묵의 매개효과가 있었고, 상호작용공정성이 이직의도에 영향을 미칠 때 친사회적 침묵과 체념적 침묵의 매개효과가 있었다. 상사의 부정적 피드백거부성향의 조절된 매개효과는 절차공정성이 체념적 침묵을 매개하여 이직의도에 영향을 미칠 때와 상호작용공정성이 친사회적 침묵, 체념적 침묵을 매개하여 이직의도에 영향을 미칠 때 유의하였다. 따라서 조직공정성이 조직침묵과 이직의도에 영향을 미칠 때 상사의 부정적 피드백거부성향을 효율적으로 관리하는 것이 필요하다.

The Influence of Self-Directed Learning and Learning Commitment on Learning Persistence Intention in Online Learning: Mediating Effect of Learning Motivation

  • This is a descriptive investigative study which attempts to confirm the mediating effect of learning motivation in the relationship between self-directed learning, learning commitment, and learning persistence intention of university students in an online learning environment. The questionnaires were randomly distributed online and the agreed questionnaires were retrieved, with a total of 338 copies used for analysis. The following is the summary of the findings. First, there were significant differences in learning persistence intention according to general characteristics depending on age, major, part-time job, and academic level. Second, the results showed a positive correlation between self-directed learning, learning commitment, learning motivation, and learning persistence intentions of the subjects were statistically significant. Third, after checking the mediating effect of learning motivation in relation to self-directed learning, learning commitment and learning motivation, the learning motivation has a partial mediating effect on learning and 23% explanatory power, and the learning commitment was found to have a complete mediating effect on the impact of learning motivation on learning intentions with 21% explanatory power. Based on these results, it is necessary to provide a more diverse educational environment, such as operating a motivation semester program that can improve learning motivations along with learning commitment, and the use of a variety of contents that can focus the learner's interest or attention.

노인의 교육참여가 인지기능에 미치는 영향: 자녀관계 만족도의 매개효과를 중심으로 (Effects of Participation in Adult Education on Cognitive Function: The Mediating Effect of Relationship with Children among Older Adults)

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effects of participation in adult education on cognitive function, and the mediating effects of relationships with children among older adults. This study employed data from the 2011 Elderly Survey, and a total of 8,668 older adults over 65-years old were used for analysis. Multiple linear regression analyses were used to examine the mediating effect of relationship with children based on the approach proposed by Baron & Kenny (1986). The results showed that participation in adult education increased cognitive function of older adults. Adult education participation also increased satisfaction with relationship with children, and relationship with children was found to have a mediating effect. These findings suggest that there is a need to recognize the importance of the relationship between older adults and children when developing education programs for older adults.

여자 청소년의 성격양식과 정서조절곤란이 섭식태도에 미치는 영향 : 신체질량지수(BMI) 집단별 차이를 중심으로 (The Effect of Personality Style and Emotion Dysregulation on Female Adolescents' Eating Attitude : A Comparison between Different Body Mass Index(BMI) Groups)

  • The purpose of the study is to examine the effect of personality style and emotional dysregulation on female adolescents' eating attitude, and the mediating effect of emotional dysregulation on the relationship between personality style and eating attitude. For this research, questionnaires on personality style, emotional dysregulation and eating attitude were administered to 1370 female high school students based in Seoul. Among 1370 questionnaires collected, 1239 were selected and statistically analyzed by frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, and stepwise multiple regression analysis using SPSS Win 21.0. The main findings of the study are as follows: First, according to female adolescents' BMI, the level of their eating attitude differed significantly. Second, according to female adolescents' BMI, female adolescents' personality style and emotional dysregulation were found to affect their eating attitude significantly. Third, emotional dysregulation had a mediating effect on the relationship between female adolescents' personality style and eating attitude. To be more specific, for the normal weight group of female adolescents, emotional dysregulation was found to have a partial mediating effect on the relationship between sociotropy and eating attitude, and a full mediating effect on the relationship between autonomy and eating attitude. On the contrary, for the overweight and obese groups of female adolescents, emotional dysregulation was found to have a full mediating effect on the relationship between sociotropy and eating attitude, and a partial mediating effect on the relationship between autonomy and eating attitude. The results of the study show the ways in which personality and emotional traits contribute to female adolescents' eating attitude according to their BMI, and provide useful information for treatment of adolescents' eating disorder in clinical settings.

위 불쾌감, 학습된 음식 거부와 식욕이 음식 신공포증과 음식 거절의 관계에 미치는 매개효과 평가 (Mediating Effects of Nausea, Learned Food Aversion, and Appetite on the Relationship between Food Neophobia and Food Rejection)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating role of nausea, learned food aversion, and appetite on the relationship between food neophobia and food rejection. A total of 250(122 healthy males and 128 healthy females) questionnaires were completed. Path analytic model was used to measure the mediating effect. Results of the study demonstrated that the path analytic result for the data also indicated excellent model fit. Furthermore, the mediating analysis indicated that the influence of food neophobia was mediated by mediator. The effect of food neophobia on appetite was perfectly mediated by nausea and learned food aversion. In the contests of general food rejection, the effect of food neophobia on food rejection was perfectly mediated by appetite. It should be noted that the original model was modified and should, preferably, be validated in future research.

고몰입 인적자원관리가 서비스성과에 미치는 영향과 내적혁신방향의 매개효과 (The Effects of High Commitment HRM on the Service Performance: Mediating Effect of Internal Innovation Direction)

  • 본 연구는 국내 서비스산업의 기업체를 대상으로 고몰입 인적자원관리의 수준이 서비스성과에 미치는 효과와 조직의 내적인 혁신방향이 갖는 매개효과를 분석하였다. 구체적으로 내적인 혁신 방향은 기업의 인력과 서비스의 고부가가치화 방향과 비용절감 다운사이징 방향으로 구성되며, 인력과 서비스의 고부가가치화 방향은 긍정적인 매개효과를 가질 것으로, 비용절감 다운사이징 방향은 부정적인 매개효과를 가질 것으로 예측하였다. 분석을 위한 자료는 한국노동연구원(KLI)의 2013년도 사업체패널 조사자료(WPS)의 1,775개 업체 중 도소매, 운수, 전문과학서비스, 교육서비스, 보건사회복지서비스, 금융서비스, 기타(정보사회지원서비스 등)서비스로 분류되는 896개 사업체의 응답을 활용하였다. 가설검증을 위한 분석은 구조방정식 분석을 사용하였다. 분석 결과, 고몰입 인적자원관리는 고부가가치화 혁신방향에 긍정적인 영향을 미치며, 비용절감 다운사이징에는 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 고부가가치화 혁신방향은 서비스성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미쳤으며, 비용절감 다운사이징은 서비스성과에 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 고몰입 인적자원관리의 서비스성과에 대한 직접효과를 확인하지 못하였으나, 고부가가치화 혁신 방향의 긍정적인 매개효과와 비용절감 다운사이징 혁신 방향의 부정적인 매개효과가 유의한 것으로 나타나 두 변수가 고몰입 인적자원관리와 서비스성과의 관계에 대해 완전매개효과를 가지는 것을 확인하였다.
