  • In the present study, thermo-electro-mechanical vibration characteristics of functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) Timoshenko nanobeams subjected to in-plane thermal loads and applied electric voltage are carried out by presenting a Navier type solution for the first time. Three kinds of thermal loading, namely, uniform, linear and non-linear temperature rises through the thickness direction are considered. Thermo-electro-mechanical properties of FGP nanobeam are supposed to vary smoothly and continuously throughout the thickness based on power-law model. Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory is exploited to describe the size dependency of nanobeam. Using Hamilton's principle, the nonlocal equations of motion together with corresponding boundary conditions based on Timoshenko beam theory are obtained for the free vibration analysis of graded piezoelectric nanobeams including size effect and they are solved applying analytical solution. According to the numerical results, it is revealed that the proposed modeling can provide accurate frequency results of the FGP nanobeams as compared to some cases in the literature. In following a parametric study is accompanied to examine the effects of several parameters such as various temperature distributions, external electric voltage, power-law index, nonlocal parameter and mode number on the natural frequencies of the size-dependent FGP nanobeams in detail. It is found that the small scale effect and thermo-electrical loading have a significant effect on natural frequencies of FGP nanobeams.

  • This study explores the linear and nonlinear solutions of sigmoid functionally graded material (S-FGM) nanoplate with porous effects. A size-dependent numerical solution is established using the strain gradient theory and isogeometric finite element formulation. The nonlinear nonlocal strain gradient is developed based on the Reissner-Mindlin plate theory and the Von-Karman strain assumption. The sigmoid function is utilized to modify the classical functionally graded material to ensure the constituent volume distribution. Two different patterns of porosity distribution are investigated, viz. pattern A and pattern B, in which the porosities are symmetric and asymmetric varied across the plate's thickness, respectively. The nonlinear finite element governing equations are established for bending analysis of S-FGM nanoplates, and the Newton-Raphson iteration technique is derived from the nonlinear responses. The isogeometric finite element method is the most suitable numerical method because it can satisfy a higher-order derivative requirement of the nonlocal strain gradient theory. Several numerical results are presented to investigate the influences of porosity distributions, power indexes, aspect ratios, nonlocal and strain gradient parameters on the porous S-FGM nanoplate's linear and nonlinear bending responses.

  • By employing the nonlocal continuum field theory of Eringen and Von Karman nonlinear strains, this paper presents an analytical model for linear and nonlinear dynamics analysis of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) conveying fluid with different boundary conditions. In the linear analysis the natural frequencies and critical flow velocities of SWNTs are computed. However, in the nonlinear analysis the effect of nonlocal parameter on nonlinear dynamics of cantilevered SWNTs conveying fluid is investigated by using bifurcation diagram, phase plane and Poincare map. Numerical results confirm existence of chaos as well as a period-doubling transition to chaos.

  • This paper studies the buckling response of nonuniform functionally graded micro-sized tubes according to the high-order tube theory (HOTT) and classical beam theory (CBT) in addition to nonlocal strain gradient theory. The microtube is made of axially functionally graded material (AFGM). Both inner and outer tube radiuses are changed along the tube length; the microtube is the truncated conical type of tube. The nonlinear partial differential (PD) the formulations are obtained on the basis of the energy conservation method. Then, the linear and nonlinear results are computed via a powerful numerical approach. Finally, the impact of various parameters on the stability of axially functionally graded (AFG) microtube regarding the buckling analysis is discussed.

  • There are many cases of rebranding and its numbers are growing. However, rebranding is still under research in the academic field, and there is no guideline on the effective way to change brand name. The objective of this paper is to integrate two inconsistent predictions from categorization theory and schema incongruity theory: a negative linear relationship (categorization theory) versus an inverted-U-shape relationship (schema incongruity theory) between brand name incongruity and consumer evaluation into one framework. Specifically, this study examines how the effect of incongruity between an existing brand name and a new brand name (hereafter called "brand name incongruity") on the new brand name attitude differs depending on a consumer's individual characteristics (need for cognition). The experiment demonstrates that consumers with a high need for cognition show a better attitude towards a new brand name when the brand name was rebranded moderately incongruent compared to congruent or extremely incongruent. Thus, the experiment demonstrates that there is an inversed U-shape relationship between brand name incongruity and new brand name evaluation for consumers with a high need for cognition. On the contrary, consumers with a low need for cognition show a better attitude towards a new brand name when the brand name is rebranded congruently compared to incongruent conditions (moderate incongruity and extreme incongruity). This result indicates that there is a negative linear relationship between brand name incongruity and new brand name evaluation. Key theoretical and managerial implications of the present study are as follows. This study integrates two alternative views of research on incongruity evaluation into one framework by demonstrating that need for cognition moderates the relationship between brand name incongruity and consumer evaluation. This present study provides a conceptual basis for understanding consumer evaluation towards a new brand name. Next, though rebranding is a very important decision making of brand management, there is no guideline on how to change a brand name. The findings of this research can suggest which degree of change is optimal when rebranding in order to utilize and strengthen existing brand equity. More specifically, when our target customer has high need for cognition, moderately incongruent rebranding can be optimal, whereas for those with low need for cognition, rebranding in accordance with existing brand name will be optimal.

  • In this study, nonlinear transverse vibrations of tensioned Euler-Bernoulli nanobeams are studied. The nonlinear equations of motion including stretching of the neutral axis and axial tension are derived using nonlocal beam theory. Forcing and damping effects are included in the equations. Equation of motion is made dimensionless via dimensionless parameters. A perturbation technique, the multiple scale methods is employed for solving the nonlinear problem. Approximate solutions are applied for the equations of motion. Natural frequencies of the nanobeams for the linear problem are found from the first equation of the perturbation series. From nonlinear term of the perturbation series appear as corrections to the linear problem. The effects of the various axial tension parameters and different nonlocal parameters as well as effects of different boundary conditions on the vibrations are determined. Nonlinear frequencies are estimated; amplitude-phase modulation figures are presented for simple-simple and clamped-clamped cases.

  • The vibration of a curved pipe conveying fluid is studied when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric nonlinearity, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory for large deformation and the extensible dynamics based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory for slenderness assumption. By using the extended Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived for the in-plane motions of the pipe. The linear and non-linear terms in the governing equations are compared with those in the previous study, and some significant differences are discussed. To investigate the vibration characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived from the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies varying with the flow velocity are computed from the two cases, which one is the linear problem and the other is the linearized problem in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. From these results, we should consider the geometric nonlinearity to analyze the dynamics of a curved pipe conveying fluid more precisely.

  • This paper presents a linear state feedback control approach to the stabilization of discrete-time uncertain systems with bounded uncertain parameters. The approach is based on the LQ(linear quadratic) regulator theory and Lyapunov's stability analysis. Asymptotically stable behavior is guaranteed in the presence of parameter uncertainties, and the upper bound of the performance index is determined.

  • The projection matrix plays an important role in the linear model theory. In this paper we derive an algebraic relationship between the projection matrices of submatrices of the design matrix. Using this relationship we can easily obtain the projection matrices of any submatrices of the design matrix. Also we show that every projection matrix can be obtained as a linear combination of Kronecker products of identity matrices and matrices with all elements equal to 1.

  • FTA is the most commonly used method among quantitative safety assessment. In case that the observing system become larger, a lot of terms should be calculated to accomplish FTA through complicated process. Many methods have been tried to reduce time, one of tries is How to calculate the reliability using graph theory after changing W to graph. This paper suggests an algorithm that can calculate more rapidly reliability and outset of system expressed by non-linear graph as like as FTA or CCA.
