The wind-induced dynamic response of large-span flexible structures includes two important components-background response and resonant response. However, it is difficult to separate the two components in time-domain. To solve the problem, a relational expression of wavelet packet coefficients and power spectrum is derived based on the principles of digital signal processing and the theories of wavelet packet analysis. Further, a new approach is proposed for separation of the background response from the resonant response. Then a numerical example of frequency detection is provided to test the accuracy and the spectral resolution of the proposed approach. In the engineering example, the approach is applied to compute the power spectra of the wind-induced response of a large-span roof structure, and the accuracy of spectral estimation for stochastic signals is verified. The numerical results indicate that the proposed approach is efficient and accurate with high spectral resolution, so it is applicable for power spectral computation of various response signals of structures induced by the wind. Moreover, the background and the resonant response time histories are separated successfully using the proposed approach, which is sufficiently proved by detailed verifications. Therefore, the proposed approach is a powerful tool for the verification of the existing frequency-domain formulations.
Hybrid rocket combustion has a manifestation of stable response to the perturbations compared to solid propellant combustion. Recently, it has revealed that the low frequency combustion instability about 10 Hz was occurred mainly due to thermal inertia of solid fuel. In this paper, the combustion response function was theoretically derived by use of ZN (Zeldovich-Novozhilov) method. The result with HTPB/LOX combination showed a quite good agreement in response function with previous works and could predict the low frequency oscillations with a peak around 10 Hz which was observed experimentally. Also, it was found that the amplification region in the frequency domain is independent of the regression rate exponent n but showed the dependence of activation energy. Moreover, the response function has shown that the hybrid combustion system was stable due to negative heat release of solid fuel for vaporization, even though the addition of energetic ingredients such as AP and Al could lead to increase heat release at the fuel surface.
A relatively low frequency Lamb wave-based damage identification method called damage imaging method for rectangular composite plate is presented. A damage index (DI) is generated from the delay matrix of the Lamb wave response signals, and it is used to indicate the location and approximate area of the damage. The viability of this method is demonstrated by analyzing the numerical and experimental Lamb wave response signals from rectangular composite plates. The technique only requires the response signals from the plate after damage, and it is capable of performing near real time damage identification. This study sheds some light on the application of Lamb wave-based damage detection algorithm for plate-type structures by using the relatively low frequency (e.g., in the neighborhood of 100 kHz, more suitable for the best capability of the existing fiber optic sensor interrogator system with the sampling frequency of 500 kHz) Lamb wave response and a reference-free damage detection technique.
Circulant Feedback Delay Networks (CFDN's), whose feedback matrix is circulant to control the stability of system and time-frequency response easier than unitary one, were recently proposed. However, the drawback of this structure is that the flatness of the frequency response of CFDN's is not enough and it is difficult to adjust the placement of zeros to decrease this problem. Therefore, we propose Modified CFDN's (MCFDN's) consisted of a general recursive filter and CFDN's to maintain maximally the impulse response of CFDN's and improve the flatness of frequency response without adjusting the placement of zeros. The delay unit of a general recursive filter's feedback loop is replaced by CFDN's, are omitted the direct path. We represent the usefulness of MCFDN's to build artificial reverberators and the main parameter to determine characteristics of MCFDN's in this paper.

In this paper, a numerical procedure for the natural vibration analysis of plates with openings and carlings based on the assumed mode method is extended to assess their forced response. Firstly, natural response of plates with openings and carlings is calculated from the eigenvalue equation derived by using Lagrange's equation of motion. Secondly, the mode superposition method is applied to determine frequency response. Mindlin theory is adopted for plate modelling and the effect of openings is taken into account by subtracting their potential and kinetic energies from the corresponding plate energies. Natural and frequency response of plates with openings and carlings subjected to point excitation force and enforced acceleration at boundaries, respectively, is analysed by using developed in-house code. For the validation of the developed method and the code, extensive numerical results, related to plates with different opening shape, carlings and boundary conditions, are compared with numerical data from the relevant literature and with finite element solutions obtained by general finite element tool.

A nonlinear modeling method for an axially oscillating cantilever beam with a concentrated mass is presented in this paper. Hybrid deformation variables are employed for the modeling method with which frequency response characteristics of axially oscillating cantilever beams are investigated. The geometric nonlinear effects of stretching and curvature are considered to accurately predict the frequency response characteristics of the oscillating cantilever beam. The effects of the size and the location of the concentrated mass on the frequency characteristics are investigated. It is found that the dynamic instability is significantly influenced by the two parameters.
The tinnitus retraining therapy(TRT) is an effective method for treating tinnitus patients. This therapy use the white noise to stimulate auditory cells for a wide frequency range. In this paper, the small white noise generator using the thermal noise is proposed. And frequency response controller which can compensate the frequency response changed by the human outer and middle ear system is proposed. We can know that proposed system is more proper type on a purpose of the tinnitus retraining therapy comparing with conventional white noise generator.

Seismic response of two dimensional liquid tanks is numerically simulated using fully nonlinear velocity potential theory. Galerkin-weighted-residual based finite element method is used for solving the governing Laplace equation with fully nonlinear free surface boundary conditions and also for velocity recovery. Based on mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian (MEL) method, fourth order explicit Runge-Kutta scheme is used for time integration of free surface boundary conditions. A cubic-spline fitted regridding technique is used at every time step to eliminate possible numerical instabilities on account of Lagrangian node induced mesh distortion. An artificial surface damping term is used which mimics the viscosity induced damping and brings in numerical stability. Four earthquake motions have been suitably selected to study the effect of frequency content on the dynamic response of tank-liquid system. The nonlinear seismic response vis-a-vis linear response of rectangular liquid tank has been studied. The impulsive and convective components of hydrodynamic forces, e.g., base shear, overturning base moment and pressure distribution on tank-wall are quantified. It is observed that the convective response of tank-liquid system is very much sensitive to the frequency content of the ground motion. Such sensitivity is more pronounced in shallow tanks.

In Korea, most nuclear power plants were designed based on the design response spectrum of Regulatory Guide 1.60 of the NRC. However, in the case of earthquakes occurring in the country, the characteristics of seismic motions in Korea and the design response spectrum differed. The seismic motion in Korea had a higher spectral acceleration in the high-frequency range compared to the design response spectrum. The seismic capacity may be reduced when evaluating the seismic performance of the equipment with high-frequency earthquakes compared with what is evaluated by the design response spectrum for the equipment with a high natural frequency. Therefore, EPRI proposed the inelastic energy absorption factor for the equipment anchorage. In this study, the seismic performance of welding anchorage was evaluated by considering domestic seismic characteristics and EPRI's inelastic energy absorption factor. In order to reflect the characteristics of domestic earthquakes, the uniform hazard response spectrum (UHRS) of Uljin was used. Moreover, the seismic performance of the equipment was evaluated with a design response spectrum of R.G.1.60 and a uniform hazard response spectrum (UHRS) as seismic inputs. As a result, it was confirmed that the seismic performance of the weld anchorage could be increased when the inelastic energy absorption factor is used. Also, a comparative analysis was performed on the seismic capacity of the anchorage of equipment by the welding and the extended bolt.
