  • A $C^0$ FE model developed based on an efficient higher order zigzag theory is used for hygrothermal analysis of laminated composite plates. The $C^0$ FE model satisfies the inter-laminar shear stress continuity at the interfaces and zero transverse shear stress conditions at plate top and bottom. In this model the first derivatives of transverse displacement have been treated as independent variables to circumvent the problem of $C^1$ continuity associated with the above plate theory. In the present theory the above mentioned $C^0$ continuity of the present element is compensated in the stiffness matrix formulation by using penalty parameter approach. In order to avoid stress oscillations observed in the displacement based finite element, the stress field derived from temperature/moisture fields (initial strains) must be consistent with total strain field. Special steps are introduced by field consistent approach (e.g., sampling at gauss points) to compensate this problem. A nine noded $C^0$ continuous isoparametric element is used in the proposed FE model. Comparison of present numerical results with other existing solutions shows that the proposed FE model is efficient, accurate and free of locking.

  • The amounts of salt diffused into radish after immersing in various concentrations of salt solution at different temperatures were measured and the changes of radish texture by the salt diffusion were estimatedwith the viscoelastic constants of a 3 element solid model determined by a stress relaxation test. While the amount of salt diffused throught radish was increased with increasing the salt concentration and soaking temperature, the istantaneous stress, equilibrium elastic solid and viscoelastic constants of radish were decreased. Also the degree of stress relaxation and equilibrium elastic solid approached the same or zero values, as salt concentration was further increased. Viscoelstic constants as well as salt diffusion were more influenced by lower salt concentration with increased temperatures.

  • Effects of current density, electrodeposition temperature and solution pH on properties of Cu thin films electrodeposited from pyrophosphate bath were investigated. Current efficiency was decreased with increasing current density and increased with increasing temperature. But solution pH slightly influenced on current efficiency and current efficiency was measured to be above 90% at both room temperature and $55^{\circ}C$. Residual stress of Cu thin film electrodeposited at room temperature was decreased with increasing current density, while current density reaches to 60 $mA/cm^2$ or more, stress became close to zero. Cu thin films electrodeposited at $55^{\circ}C$ exhibited the residual stress range of 0~40 MPa. At room temperature, dendritic surface morphology was observed above the current density of 30 $mA/cm^2$ and at $55^{\circ}C$, above the current density of 100 $mA/cm^2$. Cu thin films electrodeposited from bath solution with room temperature and $55^{\circ}C$ mainly consisted of (111) peaks. Specially, Cu thin film electrodeposited at 30 $mA/cm^2$ and $55^{\circ}C$ exhibited strong preferred orientation of (111) peaks.

  • With the increasing reliability of analysis schemes and the dramatically increased calculating speed, the computer simulation has become and indispensable process to predict the interruption capacity of circuit breakers. Generally, circuit breakers have to possess both the small current and large current interruption abilities and the circuit breaker designers need to evaluate its capacities to save the time and the expense. The analysis of small current and the large current interruption performances have been considered separately because the phenomena occurring in a interrupter are quite different. To analyze the dielectric recovery after large current interruption many physical phenomena such as heat transfer, convection and arc radiation, the nozzle ablation, the ionization of high temperature SF(sub)6 gas, the electric and themagnetic forces and so forth mush be considered. However, in the analysis of small current interruption performance only the cold gas flow analysis needs to be carried out because the capacitive current is to small that the influence from the current can be neglected. In this paper, an empirical equation which is obtained from a series of tests to estimate the dielectric recovery strength has been applied to a real circuit breaker. The results of analysis have been compared with the test results and the reliability has been investigated.

  • A tensile test evaluation of a polypropylene plate was carried out using an Instron tester with a capacity of 500 kgf. To evaluate the strain rate sensitivity of the polypropylene plate with a thickness of 0.8 mm, a tensile test was performed at room temperature through strain rate variations from $5{\times}10^{-4}/sec$ to $5{\times}10^{-2}/sec$. From these, the changes in strength due to the strain rate change and temperature change were compared. As a result of the experiment, the strength increased with increasing initial strain rate. Polypropylene was found to be a material with a positive strain rate sensitivity. In addition, the high temperature tensile properties of the polypropylene plate were evaluated using high temperature tensile tests at 80, 120, and $160^{\circ}C$. The strength decreased with increasing temperature. In particular at $160^{\circ}C$, the tensile strength decreased to zero. The increase in yield strength and the tensile strength at room temperature, $80^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$ were similar. At $160^{\circ}C$, however, there was almost no increase in strength because the stress approached zero. In the high temperature tensile test, the tensile strength increased more than the increase in yield strength with increasing strain rate.

  • Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the genetic components of daily milk yield and to re-rank bulls in South Korea by estimated breeding value (EBV) under heat stress using the temperature-humidity index (THI). Methods: This study was conducted using 125,312 monthly test-day records, collected from January 2000 to February 2017 for 19,889 Holstein cows from 647 farms in South Korea. Milk production data were collected from two agencies, the Dairy Cattle Genetic Improvement Center and the Korea Animal Improvement Association, and meteorological data were obtained from 41 regional weather stations using the Automated Surface Observing System (ASOS) installed throughout South Korea. A random regression model using the THI was applied to estimate genetic parameters of heat tolerance based on the test-day records. The model included herd-year-season, calving age, and days-in-milk as fixed effects, as well as heat tolerance as an additive genetic effect, permanent environmental effect, and direct additive and permanent environmental effect. Results: Below the THI threshold (${\leq}72$; no heat stress), the variance in heat tolerance was zero. However, the heat tolerance variance began to increase as THI exceeded the threshold. The covariance between the genetic additive effect and the heat tolerance effect was -0.33. Heritability estimates of milk yield ranged from 0.111 to 0.176 (average: 0.128). Heritability decreased slightly as THI increased, and began to increase at a THI of 79. The predicted bull EBV ranking varied with THI. Conclusion: We conclude that genetic evaluation using the THI function could be useful for selecting bulls for heat tolerance in South Korea.

  • PURPOSES : The field application and performance of continuously reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP), constructed by using the mechanical tube-feeding method, are evaluated in this study. METHODS: The location of the rebar was evaluated by using the MIRA system. The early-age CRCP performance was evaluated via visual survey, in which the crack spacing and crack width were examined. RESULTS: The location of longitudinal reinforcing bars was evaluated via MIRA testing and the results showed that the longitudinal rebars all lie within a given tolerance limit (${\pm}2.5cm$) of the target elevation. In addition, owing to the low temperature when the concrete was pured, the crack spacing in the Dae-Gu direction is slightly wider than that of the Gwang-Ju direction. Almost all of the crack spacings lay within the range of 1.0 m~3.0 m. A crack width of <0.3 mm was measured at the pavement surface. However, as revealed by the field survey, the crack spacing was not correlated with the crack width. CONCLUSIONS : In CRCP constructed by using the mechanical tube-feeding method, almost all of the longitudinal reinforcing bars lay within the tolerance limit (2.5 cm) of the target elevation. The concrete-placing temperature affects the crack spacing, owing to variations in the zero-stress temperature. Crack survey results show that there is no correlation between the crack spacing and crack width in CRCP.

  • In this paper, we focus on optimization of the in-situ phosphorous (P) doping of low-pressure chemical vapor deposited (LPCVD) poly Si resistors for obtaining near-zero temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) at temperature range from 25 to $600^{\circ}C$. The deposited poly Si films were annealed by rapid thermal anneal (RTA) process at the temperature range from 900 to $1000^{\circ}C$ for 90s in nitrogen ambient to relieve intrinsic stress and decrease the TCR in the poly Si layer and get the Ohmic contact. After the RTA process, a roughness of the thin film was slightly changed but the grain size and crystallinity of the thin film with the increase in anneal temperature. The film annealed at $1,000^{\circ}C$ showed the behavior of Schottky contact and had dislocations in the films. Ohmic contact and TCR of $334.4{\pm}8.2$ (ppm/K) within 4 inch wafer were obtained in the measuring temperature range of 25 to $600^{\circ}C$ for the optimized 200 nm thick-poly Si film with width/length of $20{\mu}m/1,800{\mu}m$. This shows the potential of in-situ P doped LPCVD poly Si as a resistor for pressure sensor in harsh environment applications.

  • The breakdown characteristics of metal-oxide-semiconductor(MOS) capacitors fabricated by Al, polysilicon, and tungsten polycide gate electrodes onto gate oxide was evaluated by time zero dielectric breakdwon (TZDB). The average breakdown field of the gate oxide with tungsten polycide electride was lower than that of the polysilicon electrode. The B model (1~8MV/cm) failure of the gate oxide with tungsten polycide electrode was increased with increasing annealing temperature in the dry $O_{2}$ ambient. This is attributed ot fluorine and tungsten diffusion from thungsten silicide film into the gate oxide, and stress increase of tungsten polcide after annealing treatment.

  • In this article, the generalized thermoelastic theory with fractional derivative is presented to estimate the variation of temperature, the components of stress, the components of displacement and the changes in volume fraction field in two-dimensional porous media. Easily, the exact solutions in the Laplace domain are obtained. By using Laplace and Fourier transformations with the eigenvalues method, the physical quantities are obtained analytically. The numerical results for all the physical quantities considered are implemented and presented graphically. The results display that the present model with the fractional derivative is reduced to the Lord and Shulman (LS) and the classical dynamical coupled (CT) theories when the fractional parameter is equivalent to one and the delay time is equal to zero and respectively.
