In this paper, a new sag and peak voltage detector is proposed for a single-phase inverter using delta square operation. The conventional sag detector is from a single-phase digital phase-locked loop (DPLL) that is based on d-q transformations using an all-pass filter (APF). The d-q transformation is typically used in the three-phase coordinate system. The APF generates a virtual q-axis voltage component with a 90° phase delay, but this virtual phase cannot reflect a sudden change in the grid voltage at the instant the voltage sag occurs. As a result, the peak value is drastically distorted, and it settles down slowly. A modified APF generates the virtual q-axis voltage component from the difference between the current and the previous values of the d-axis voltage component in the stationary reference frame. However, the modified APF cannot detect the voltage sag and peak value when the sag occurs around the zero crossing points such as 0° and 180°, because the difference voltage is not sufficient to detect the voltage sag. The proposed algorithm detects the sag voltage through all regions including the zero crossing voltage. Moreover, the exact voltage drop can be acquired by calculating the q-axis component that is proportional to the d-axis component. To verify the feasibility of the proposed system, the conventional and proposed methods are compared using simulations and experimental results.
The modern convenient life formed by industrial development becomes lack of exercise and takes an interest in diet. Specially, professional walking shoes is developed as people take an interest in jogging, Those shoes, professional walking shoes or Dietshoes, increase exercise effects by change of heel types. Therefore, this study investigated motility effects by EMG experiment in order to measure Muscle Activities (MA) while wearing diet shoes (backless). Experiment was conducted by EMG measurement, from calf (gastrocnemius muscle), thigh (vastus muscle) and waist (erector spinae muscle), of 12 high school students. Exercise effects between the two shoes were analyzed by EMG (MF; Median Frequency, MPF; Mean Power Frequency, ZCR; Zero Crossing Rate). Results showed that the Dietshoes(MF: 48.21Hz, MPF: 65.0Hz, ZCR: 100.6Hz) had larger EMG value than that of Normal shoes(MF: 40.47Hz, MPF: 58.04Hz, ZCR: 82.09Hz). Also, in MA, the highest activities are showed in the calf, the second one is in waist, and last one is in thigh during gate. ANOVA between shoes in measurement parts showed significant effects in MF (gastrocnemius: p-value=.022, vastus laterals: p-value=.037, erector spinae: p-value=.082), MPF (gastrocnemius: p-value=.032, vastus laterals: p-value=.046, erector spinae: p-value=.090), and ZCR (gastrocnemius: p-value=.000, vastus laterals: p-value=.004, erector spinae: p-value=.134). And MA of Dietshoes is higher than that of Normal shoes, and decreasing rate of MA in Dietshoes is less than that of Normal shoes. Thus, this study validates exercise effects of Dietshoes.
Objective: It is to find factors related to stability through analysis of plantar pressure factors according to the level of instability when performing Snatch. Method: Foot pressure analysis was performed while 10 weightlifters performed 80% of the highest level of Snatch, and motion was classified and analyzed in 3 grades according to the level of instability. Results: First, in Bad Motion, the movement distance of the pressure center in the direction of ML and AP was larger significantly in Phase 2. Second, in Phase 2, the number of zero-crossing in the AP direction was larger statistically significantly in Good Motion. Third, in the bad motion in Phase 3, the number of zero-crossing in the ML direction showed a significantly larger value. Fourth, in Phase 4, it was found that the more stable the lock out motion, the greater the activity of foot controlling in the left and right directions. Fifth, Phase 3, the greater the Maximum/Mean foot pressure value, the more stable the pulling action. Sixth, in Phase 2, the foot pressure was concentrated with a wide distribution in the midfoot and rearfoot. Seventh, the triggering number of the forefoot region was small in the last pull phase. Eighth, the number of triggers in the toe area was significantly higher during Good Motion in Phase 4. Conclusion: Summarizing the factors of instability in Snatch, there was no significant difference in Phase 1 for each condition. In order to enhance the stability in Phase 2, the sensory control ability in the AP direction is required, and focusing the foot pressing motion with a wide distribution in the middle and rear parts increases the instability. In Phase 3, it was found that the more unstable, the more sensory control activity was performed in the ML direction, the stronger the forefoot pressing action should be performed for a stable Snatch. In Phase 4, It is important that the feet sensory control activity in ML directions and the control ability of the toes in order to have stable Lock out motion.
The famous filtered-x least mean square (FxLMS) algorithm for active noise control (ANC) systems may become unstable in non-stationary noise environment. To solve this problem, Sun's algorithm and Akhtar's algorithm are developed based on modifying the reference signal in update of FxLMS algorithm, but these two algorithms have dissatisfactory stability in dealing with sustaining impulsive noise. In proposed algorithm, probability estimation and zero-crossing rate (ZCR) control are used to improve the stability and performance, at the same time, an optimal parameter selection based on fuzzy system is utilized. Computer simulation results prove the proposed algorithm has faster convergence and better stability in non-stationary noise environment.

In this paper, Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficient (MFCC), Decorrelated Filter Bank (DFB), Octave-based Spectral Contrast (OSC), Zero-Crossing Rate (ZCR), and Spectral Contract/Roll-Off are combined as a set of multiple feature-vectors for the music genre classification system based on the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier. In the conventional system, feature vectors for the entire genre classes are normalized for the SVM model training and classification. However, in this paper, selected feature vectors that are compared based on the One-Against-One (OAO) SVM classifier are only used for normalization. Using OSC as a single feature-vector and the multiple feature-vectors, we obtain the genre classification rates of 60.8% and 77.4%, respectively, with the conventional normalization method. Using the proposed normalization method, we obtain the increased classification rates by 8.2% and 3.3% for OSC and the multiple feature-vectors, respectively.

A sensorless motor control scheme with conventional back-Electro Motive Force (EMF) sensing based on zero crossing point (ZCP) detection has been widely used in various applications. However, there are several problems with the conventional method for effectively driving sensorless brushless motors. For example, a phase mismatch of 30 degrees occurs between the ZCP and commutation time. Additionally, most of the motor speed/current controls are achieved based on a pulse width modulation (PWM) method, which generates significant noise that distracts the back-EMF sensing. Due to the PWM switching, the ZCP is not deterministic, and thus the efficiency of the motor is reduced because the phase transition points become uncertain. Moreover, the motor driving performance is degraded at a low speed range due to the effect of PWM noise. To solve these problems, an improved back-EMF detection method based on a differential line method is proposed in this paper. In addition, the proposed sensorless BLDC driver addresses the problems by using a variable voltage driver generated from a buck converter. The variable voltage driver does not generate the PWM switching noise. Consequently, the proposed sensorless motor driver improves 1) the signal-to-noise ratio of back-EMF, 2) the operation range of a BLDC motor, and 3) the torque characteristics. The proposed sensorless motor driver is verified through simulations and experiments.

In this paper, we propose a modified watershed algorithm to extract more correct edge and reduce processing time. Two new algorithms are proposed in this paper. The first one is applying two conventional watershed expansion methods known as rainfall and immersion simulation jointly. We analyze the advantage and problem of each simulation and then propose a new expansion method that keeps the advantage and removes the problem in order to extract more correct edge and reduce processing time. The second is a new priority decision algorithm to obtain more correct edge of a region. Some zero-crossing points of gradient are expected to be edge of a region but the conventional method has a limitation that it cannot extract those points as edge. Therefore we propose a new priority decision algorithm for watershed in order to get more correct edge. We compare the proposed method with the conventional method through experiments and prove that the proposed method can extract more correct edge of region.

This paper presents a vowel onset point (VOP) detection method based on the human auditory system. This method maps the "perceptual" frequency scale, i.e. Mel scale onto a linear acoustic frequency, and then establishes a series of Triangular Mel-weighted Filter Bank simulate the function of band pass filtering in human ear. This nonlinear critical-band filter bank helps greatly reduce the data dimensionality, and eliminate the effect of harmonic waves to make the formants more prominent in the nonlinear spaced Mel spectrum. The sum of mel spectrum peaks energy is extracted as feature for each frame, and the instinct at which the energy amplitude starts rising sharply is detected as VOP, by convolving with Gabor window. For the single-word database which contains 12 vowels articulated with different kinds of consonants, the experimental results showed a good average detection rate of 72.73%, higher than other vowel detection methods based on short-time energy and zero-crossing rate.

The rate of rise of the fault current in DC grids is very high compared to AC grids because of the low line impedance of DC lines. In AC grids the arc of the circuit breaker under current interruption is extinguished by the zero current crossing which is provided naturally by the system. In DC grids the zero current crossing must be provided by the circuit breaker itself. Unlike AC girds, the magnetic energy of DC grids is stored in the system inductance. The DC circuit breaker must dissipate the stored energy. In addition the DC breaker must withstand the residual overvoltage after the current interruption. The main contents of this paper are to ${\cdot}$ Explain the theoretical background for the design of DC circuit breaker. ${\cdot}$ Develop the simulation model in PSIM of the real scaled DC circuit breaker for 1,800V DC railway. ${\cdot}$ Suggest design guidelines for the DC circuit breaker based on the experimental work, simulations and design process.

Some design techniques for high speed and low power pipelined 8-bit ADC are described. To perform high-speed operation with relatively low power consumption, open loop architecture is adopted, while closed loop architecture (with MDAC) is used in conventional pipeline ADC. A distributed track and hold amplifier and a cascading structure are also adopted to increase the sampling rate. To reduce the power consumption and the die area, the number of amplifiers in each stage are optimized and reduced with proposed zero-crossing point generation method. At 500-MHz sampling rate, simulation results show that the power consumption is 210mW including digital logic with 1.8V power supply. And the targeted ADC achieves ENOB of about 8-bit with input frequency up to 200-MHz and input range of 1.2Vpp (Differential). The ADC is designed using a $0.18{\mu}m$ 6-Metal 1-Poly CMOS process and occupies an area of $900{\mu}m{\times}500{\mu}m$
