  • This paper presents a design and a control of a New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis and dynamic walking simulation for this system. The New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis is distinguished from other one by which has a very light-weight and a new RGO type with servo motors. The gait of a New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis depends on the constrains of mechanical kinematics and initial posture. The stability of dynamic walking is investigated by ZMP(Zero Moment Point) of the New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis. It is designed according to a human wear type and is able to accomodate itself to human environments. The joints of each leg are adopted with a good kinematic characteristics. To test of the analysis of joint kinematic properties, we did the strain stress analysis of dynamic PLS and the study of FEM with a dynamic PLS. It will be expect that the spinal card injury patients are able to train effectively with a Reciprocating Gait Orthosis. The New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis was able to keep smooth walling by the orthotic servo motors and hybrid system, make a sequence of flexion and extension of the joint during the walking. Also, the New Reciprocating Gait Orthosis turned out to be a satisfactory orthosis for walling training, for the spinal cord injury patient.

  • This paper proposes a gain switching algorithm for joint position control of a hydraulic humanoid robot. Accurate position control of the lower body is one of the basic requirements for robust balance and walking control. Joint position control is more difficult for hydraulic robots than it is for electric robots because of an absence of reduction gear and better back-drivability of hydraulic joints. Backdrivability causes external forces and torques to have a large effect on the position of the joints. External ground reaction forces therefore prevent a simple proportional-derivative (PD) controller from realizing accurate and fast joint position control. We propose a state feedback controller for joint position control of the lower body, define three modes of state feedback gains, and switch the gains according to the Zero Moment Point (ZMP) and linear interpolation. Dynamic equations of hydraulic actuators were experimentally derived and applied to a robot simulator. Finally, the performance of the algorithm is evaluated with dynamic simulations.

  • This paper presents the new gait implementation of a biped robot with smooth walking using 3-dimensional continuous trunk motion and kick action of ankle joints. Trajectory generation ova trunk is performed not on a unit gait but on a whole walking interval. In applying kick action such as heel-touch or toe-off, varying coordinate system was employed for the simplification of the kinematic analysis. Desired ZMP (zero moment point) is also changed to implement the efficient kick action. As a result, balancing motion of the proposed gait was much more decreased than that of conventional one. Moreover, robot\\`s walking behavior is very smooth, natural and similar to the pace of a human. The walking experiment system is composed of eight AC servo motors and a DSP controller. The walking simulation and the experimental results are shown using the proposed new walking algorithm.

  • Based on the stability criteria of ZMP (Zero Moment Point), this paper proposes an adjusting algorithm that modifies walking trajectory of a bipedal robot for stable walking by analyzing ZMP trajectory of it. In order to maintain walking balance of the bipedal robot, ZMP should be located within a supporting polygon that is determined by the foot supporting area with stability margin. Initially tilting imposed to the trajectory of the upper body is proposed to transfer ZMP of the given walking trajectory into the stable region for the minimum stability. A neural network method is also proposed for the stable walking trajectory of the biped robot. It uses backpropagation learning with angles and angular velocities of all joints with tilting to get the improved walking trajectory. By applying the optimized walking trajectory that is obtained with the neural network model, the ZMP trajectory of the bipedal robot is certainly located within a stable area of the supporting polygon. Experimental results show that the optimally learned trajectory with neural network gives more stability even though the tilting of the pelvic joint has a great role for walking stability.

  • This paper handles ZMP based control that is inspired by neural networks for humanoid robot walking on varying sloped surfaces. Humanoid robots are currently one of the most exciting research topics in the field of robotics, and maintaining stability while they are standing, walking or moving is a key concern. To ensure a steady and smooth walking gait of such robots, a feedforward type of neural network architecture, trained by the back propagation algorithm is employed. The inputs and outputs of the neural network architecture are the ZMPx and ZMPy errors of the robot, and the x, y positions of the robot, respectively. The neural network developed allows the controller to generate the desired balance of the robot positions, resulting in a steady gait for the robot as it moves around on a flat floor, and when it is descending slope. In this paper, experiments of humanoid robot walking are carried out, in which the actual position data from a prototype robot are measured in real time situations, and fed into a neural network inspired controller designed for stable bipedal walking.

  • A biped robot in locomotion can be regarded to be kinetically redundant in that the link-chain from its foot on the ground to its swing foot has more degrees of freedom that needed to realize stable bipedal locomotion. This paper proposes a new method to generate a trajectory for bipedal locomotion based on this redundancy, which directly generates a locomotion trajectory at the joint level unlike some other methods such as LIPM (linear inverted-pendulum mode) and GCIPM (gravity-compensated inverted-pendulum mode), each of which generates a trajectory of the center of gravity or the hip link under the assumption of the dominance of the hip-link inertia before generating the trajectory of the whole links at the joint level. For the stability of the trajectory generated in the proposed method, a stability condition based on the ZMP (zero-moment point) is used as a constraint as well as other kinetic constraints for bipedal motions. A 6-DOF biped robot is used to show how a stable locomotion trajectory can be generated in the sagittal plane by the proposed method and to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we propose an optimal trajectory for biped robots to move up-and-down stairs using a genetic algorithm and a computed-torque control for biped robots to be dynamically stable. First, a Real-Coded Genetic Algorithm (RCGA) which of operators are composed of reproduction, crossover and mutation is used to minimize the total energy. Constraints are divided into equalities and inequalities: Equality constraints consist of a position condition at the start and end of a step period and repeatability conditions related to each joint angle and angular velocity. Inequality constraints include collision avoidance conditions of a swing leg at the face and edge of a stair, knee joint conditions with respect to the avoidance of the kinematic singularity, and the zero moment point condition with respect to the stability into the going direction. In order to approximate a gait, each joint angle trajectory is defined as a 4-th order polynomial of which coefficients are chromosomes. The effectiveness of the proposed optimal trajectory is shown in computer simulations with a 6-dof biped robot that consists of seven links in the sagittal plane. The trajectory is more efficient than that generated by the modified GCIPM. And various trajectories generated by the proposed GA method are analyzed in a viewpoint of the consumption energy: walking on even ground, ascending stairs, and descending stairs.

  • To achieve bipedal walking in real human environments, a bipedal robot should be capable of modifiable walking both on uneven terrain with different heights and on flat terrain. In this paper, a novel walking pattern generator based on a 3-D linear inverted pendulum model (LIPM) is proposed to achieve this objective. By adopting a zero moment point (ZMP) variation scheme in real time, it is possible to change the center-of-mass (COM) position and the velocity of the 3-D LIPM throughout the single support phase. Consequently, the proposed method offers the ability to generate a modifiable pattern for walking on uneven terrain without the necessity for any extra footsteps to adjust the COM motion. In addition, a control strategy for bipedal walking on uneven terrain with unknown height is developed. The torques and ground reaction force are measured through force-sensing resisters (FSRs) on each foot and the foot of the robot is modeled as three virtual spring-damper models for the disturbance compensation. The methods for generating the foot and vertical COM of 3-D LIPM trajectories are proposed to achieve modifiable bipedal walking on uneven terrain without any information regarding the height of the terrain. The effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed through dynamic simulations.

  • This paper presented a design and control of a new RGO(reciprocating gait orthosis)and its simulation. The new RGO was distinguished from the other one by which had a very light-weight and a new RGO(reciprocating gait orthosis) system. The vibration evaluation of the hip joint system on the new RGO(reciprocating gait orthosis)was used to access by the 3-axis accelerometer with a low frequency vibration of less than 30 ㎐. The gait of the new RGO depended on the constrains of mechanical kinematics and the initial posture. The stability of dynamic walking was investigated by analyzing the ZMP (zero moment point) of the new RGO. It was designed according to the human wear type and was able to accomodate itself to the environments of S.C.I. Patients. The joints of each leg were adopted with a good kinematic characteristics. To analyse joint kinematic properties, we made the hip joint system of FEM and the hip joint system by 1-axis and 3-axis Accelerometers.

  • The wind profiler radar provides a standing profile of the wind vector and the atmospheric physical signal for the fixed point. Since the wind vector is calculated by the manufacturer's data processing program, the quality control of the date is limited. Therefore, understanding and exploiting the raw spectrum data need to improve the quality of the wind vector. The raw data of the wind vector is the power spectral density stored in binary form. In this study, an algorithm was completed to transform the raw data into the real spectral density, and the use of raw data was evaluated by retrieving zero-order and first-order moments of the spectral based on the spectrum quality control.
