  • This paper describes a soft switching using discontinuous inductor current. The soft switching snubber circuit provides ZCS and ZVS for main switch. For high power applications, the input ractifier is fed from a three-phase ac source. The Conventional switching method is hard switching technics, because of the device turn off is ocurred in maximum reactor current. In this time, switching losses are maximised by the hard switching. In generally, soft switching technique has been adjusted with the snubber condenser in order to compensates for this losses. So, it was compared hard switching with soft switching which has proposed in this paper for switching losses, distortion factor by the simulation.

  • This paper presents a new circuit topology of active edge resonant snubbers assisted half-bridge soft switching PWM inverter type DC-DC high power converter for DC bus feeding power plants. The proposed DC-DC power converter is composed of a typical voltage source-fed half-bridge high frequency PWM inverter with a high frequency planar transformer link in addition to input DC busline side power semiconductor switching devices for PWM control scheme and parallel capacitive lossless snubbers. The operating principle of the new DC-DC converter treated here is described by using switching mode equivalent circuits, together with its unique features. All the active power switches in the half-bridge arms and input DC buslines can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off commutation transitions. The total turn-off switching losses of the power switches can be significantly reduced. As a result, a high switching frequency IGBTs can be actually selected in the frequency range of 60 kHz under the principle of soft switching. The performance evaluations of the experimental setup are illustrated practically. The effectiveness of this new converter topology is proved for such low voltage and large current DC-DC power supplies as DC bus feeding from a practical point of view.

  • This paper presents a novel circuit topology of a DC bus line series switch and parallel snubbing capacitor-assisted soft-switching PWM full-bridge inverter type DC-DC power converter with a high frequency planar transformer link, which is newly developed for high performance arc welding machines in industry. The proposed DC-DC power converter circuit is based upon a voltage source-fed H type full-bridge soft-switching PWM inverter with a high frequency transformer. This DC-DC power converter has a single power semiconductor switching device in series with an input DC low side rail and loss less snubbing capacitor in parallel with the inverter bridge legs. All the active power switches in the full-bridge arms and DC bus line can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off transition commutation. Consequently, the total switching power losses occurred at turn-off switching transition of these power semiconductor devices; IGBTs can be reduced even in higher switching frequency bands ranging from 20 kHz to 100 kHz. The switching frequency of this DC-DC power converter using IGBT power modules can be realized at 60 kHz. It is proved experimentally by power loss analysis that the more the switching frequency increases, the more the proposed DC-DC power converter can achieve a higher control response performance and size miniaturization. The practical and inherent effectiveness of the new DC-DC converter topology proposed here is actually confirmed for low voltage and large current DC-DC power supplies (32V, 300A) for TIG arc welding applications in industry.

  • In this paper, a contactless power supply using half-bridge series resonant converter that achieves ZVS operation of main switches and ZCS operation of secondary side diodes is proposed. Since the proposed contactless power supply using half-bridge series resonant converter operates with lower switching frequency than the resonant frequency, it can achieve ZCS operation of secondary side diodes due to discontinuous resonant current. And it is also possible to control the converter in narrow frequency range and to obtain high voltage gain, which, in turn, offers low turns ratio for the transformer and high efficiency. Based on the theoretical analysis and simulation results, the 3.15W prototype is built and the final experimental results are described.

  • In low voltage high current applications such as fuel cells the current-fed DC-DC converter which has small ripple current and turn ratio is more efficient. In the applications larger than 5kW the conventional single-phase current-fed converter based on full-bridge, half-bridge or push-pull topologies has high current burden of devices such as switches, and the selection and optimized design of the devices are not easy. In this paper a three-phase active-clamped current-fed push-pull DC-DC converter suitable for high power high step-up applications is proposed. The proposed converter has reduced current burden and is suitable for wide input voltage applications due to the use of whole duty cycle range. Design methods of main components including three-phase high frequency transformers are provided, and the validity and performance of the proposed converter are proved from a 5kW prototype.

  • This paper presents two new circuit topologies of the dc busline side active resonant snubber assisted voltage source high frequency link soft switching PWM full-bridge dc-dc power converters acceptable for either utility ac 200V-rms or ac 400V-rms input grid. These high frequency switching dc-dc converters proposed in this paper are composed of a typical voltage source-fed full-bridge PWM inverter, high frequency transformer with center tap, high frequency diode rectifier with inductor input filter and dc busline side series switches with the aid of a dc busline parallel capacitive lossless snubber. All the active switches in the full-bridge arms as well as dc busline snubber can achieve ZCS turn-on and ZVS turn-off transition commutation with the aid of a transformer leakage inductive component and consequently the total switching power losses can be effectively reduced. So that, a high switching frequency operation of IGBTs in the voltage source full bridge inverter can be actually designed more than about 20 kHz. It is confirmed that the more the switching frequency of full-bridge soft switching inverter increases, the more soft switching PWM dc-dc converter with a high frequency transformer link has remarkable advantages for its power conversion efficiency and power density implementations as compared with the conventional hard switching PWM inverter type dc-dc power converter. The effectiveness of these new dc-dc power converter topologies can be proved to be more suitable for low voltage and large current dc-dc power supply as arc welding equipment from a practical point of view.

  • In this paper a new single-stage ac-dc converter with high frequency isolation and low components count is introduced. The proposed converter is constructed using two interleaved boost circuits in the grid side and non-regulating full bridge in the DC side. An optimized switching is implemented on the two interleaved boost circuits resulting in a ripple-free grid current without a ripple cancellation network; hence very small filter inductors are used. A simple and reliable closed-loop control system is easily implemented, since the phase-shift angle is the only independent variable. Moreover, current imbalance is avoided in the presented topology without current control loop in each phase. The proposed charger charges the battery with a sinusoidal-like current instead of a constant direct current. ZVS turn on of all switches is achieved throughout the operation in both directions of power flow without any additional components.

  • A single and three phase-compatible single-stage EV charger without electrolytic capacitor is proposed in this study. DC battery-charging current is inherently guaranteed in the three-phase grid due to three output currents with a phase shift of 120° between each other. The proposed EV charger can provide a DC battery charging current for the single-phase grid through the integrated active power decoupling circuit without using additional switches. The proposed EV charger ensures ZVS turn-on of all switches with wide grid and battery voltage ranges. The 11 kW prototype of the proposed EV charger demonstrates a peak efficiency of 97.01% and a power density of 5.58 kW/L.
