Analysis of Volatile Compounds in Leaves and Fruits of Zanthoxylum schinifolium Siebold et Zucc. & Zanthoxylum piperitum DC. by Headspace SPME (SPME법에 의한 산초나무와 초피나무 잎과 열매의 향기성분 분석)

  • Volatile components in the leaves and fruits of Z. schinjfolium and Z. piperitum were analyzed by Headspace SPME(Solid phase Microextraction). Fifty two and 48 components in the leaves and fruits, repectively, were identified in Z. schinifolium. (E)-2-hexenal, ${\alpha}-pinene$, (Z)-ocimene+limonene, estragole, germacrene-d were detected at common components in the leaves and estragole in the fruits of Z. schinjfolium. Regardless of collection sites hexanal, (Z)-3-hexenol, (E)-2-hexenal, n-hexanol were appeared in the leaves while undecanone in the fruits. Thirty and 27 components in the leaves and fruits, respectively, were identified in Z. piperitum. ${\alpha}-pinene,\;{\beta}-phellandrene$, 1,8-cineole, citronellal and myrcene, (Z)-ocimene+limonene, ${\beta}-phellandrene$ were appeared as common components in the leaves and fruits collected from Baeck-yang-sa and Nae-jang-sa. (Z)-3-hexenol, (E)-2-hexenal, ${\alpha}-pinene\;myrcene\;and\;{\beta}-phellandrene$, citronellal, geranyl acetate were major components in the leaves and fruits from Tong-do-sa.

  • Three phospholiplds (4 6) and three aromatic amines (1 3) were obtained from the methanol extract of Bombycis corpus. Based on spectral data, their structures have been elucidated as nicotiamide(1), cytidine(2), adenine(3), 1-O-(9Z-octadecenoyl)-2-O-(8Z, llZ-octadecadienoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine(4), 1,2-di-O-hexadecanoly-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine(5) and 1,2-di-O-9Z-octadecenoly-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine(6). Effect of Moxibustion Heat Therapy on Menstrual Cramps, Dysmenorrhea, and Activities of Daily Living (뜸요법이 생리통과 월경곤란증 및 일상생활수행에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of moxibustion heat therapy(Koryo hand acupuncture) on menstrual cramps. dysmenorrhea and ADL. The experiment was carried out during the period from March 24 to April 30, 2003. The subjects in the study were drawn from female students attending two colleges in Chungcheongbuk-do and Kyunggi-do. Of all those subjects. 19 and 14 subjects were assigned to the experimental and the control groups respectively. The moxibustion heat therapy were performed three times a week, subjects were treated twice a time. Data was analyzed using SPSS/WIN10.0 by $x^2$test. Wilcoxon sign rank. and Wilcoxon rank sum test. The result of this study were as follows : 1) After moxibustion heat therapy. the graphic rating score of menstrual cramps was decreased significantly from 7.79(SD=1.22) to 4.47(SD=2.25) in experimental group(z=-3.731. p=.000). And there was significant difference in the change of graphic rating score of menstrual cramps between both groups(z=-3.637. p=.000). 2) After moxibustion heat therapy. the score of face rating scale of menstrual cramps was decreased significantly from 3.95(SD=0.71) to 2.32(SD=1.00) in experimental group(z=-3.457. p=.000). And there was significant difference in the change of face rating score between both groups(z=-2.713. p=.007). 3) After moxibustion heat therapy. the score of adjective labor pain rating scale rank (ALPRS) of menstrual cramps was decreased significantly from 23.63(SD=4.19) to 17.27(SD=6.34) in experimental group(z=-2.941. p=.001). But there was no significant difference in the change of adjective labor pain rating score(ALPRS) of menstrual cramps between both groups(z=-1.918. p=.059). 4) After moxibustion heat therapy. the score of dysmenorrhea was decreased significantly from 7.0(SD=2.89) to 5.26(SD=3.54) in experimental group(z=-2.183. p=.029). But there was no significant difference in the change of the score of dysmenorrhea between both groups(z =-1.555. p=.125). 5) After moxibustion heat therapy, the score of ADL difficulty was decreased significantly from 33.26(SD=4.58) to 28.83(SD=9.44) in experimental group(z=-3.552. p=.000). And there was significant difference in the change of score of difficulty of ADL between both groups(z=-4.110. p=.000). The above finding indicated that the moxibustion heat therapy showed a practical effect on reducing menstrual cramps, dysmenorrhea and ADL difficulty in female. Accordingly. we can adopt the moxibustion heat therapy as a useful intervention in the community nursing.

Induction of Growth Hormone by the Roots of Astragalus membranaceus in Pituitary Cell Culture

  • The traditional Asian medicinal herb, roots of Astragalus (A.) membranaceus (Leguminosae), is used for many purposes, some of which are purported to stimulate the release of growth hormone in vivo. Extracts of A. membranaceus were tested to determine whether they stimulate the release of growth hormone in rat pituitary cell culture. A. membranaceus was extracted sequentially with 80% ethanol (fraction A), n-hexane (fraction B); the test compound from the herbal extraction was isolated using silica gel column chromatography and was identified with spectral data. Test compound was also extracted by traditional boiling water methods. Induction of growth hormone in pituitary cell culture was conducted with isolated compounds and extracted fractions of A. Radix (dried roots of A. membranaceus). The fraction A was not active in the rat pituitary cell culture, but the fraction B derived from the ethanol fraction stimulated the release of growth hormone in culture. Six compounds from fraction B (1-6) were isolated and identified previously. The compounds 1,2-benzendicarboxylic acid diisononylester (1), $\beta$-sitosterol (2), and 3-Ο-$\beta$-D-galactopyranosyl-$\beta$-sitosterol (5) did not induce growth hormone release in the culture. Formononetin (3), 9Z, 12Z-octadecadienoic acid (4), stigmast-4-en-6$\beta$-o1-3-one (6) and 98-E, a mixture of 1'-9, 12-octadecadienoic acid (Z,Z)-2',3'-dihydroxy-propylester (7) and 1'-hexadecanoic acid-2',3'-dihydroxy-propylester (8) stimulated the release of growth hormone in the rat pituitary cell culture significantly compared to the control. In conclusions, four compounds isolated from extracts of A. Radix induced growth hormone release in the rat pituitary cell culture. The 98-E isolate was the most active inducer of growth hormone release.

A Study on the Electromagnetic Property of NiCuZn Ferrite by Additive SnO2, CaO. (SnO2, CaO가 NiCuZn Ferrite의 전자기적 특성에 미치는 영향 연구)

  • The electromagnetic properties and microstructures of the basic composition of (N $i_{0.2}$C $u_{0.2}$Z $n_{0.6}$)$_{1.085}$(F $e_2$ $O_3$)$_{0.915}$ were invested by changing of the additive Sn $O_2$, CaO amounts and ferrite processes. There is no variation of grain size by changing additive amount. It can reduce the total loss when (N $i_{0.2}$C $u_{0.2}$Z $n_{0.6}$)$_{1.085}$(F $e_2$ $O_3$)$_{0.915}$ composition sintered at 1150 $^{\circ}C$ better than 130$0^{\circ}C$. Additive CaO confirmed of useful addition for the reduce total loss, because it increasing sintering density. Decreasing total loss were observed by adding both Sn $O_2$ 0.06 wt% and CaO 0.4 wt%.

  • The need for insect and mite resistant turfgrass cultivars arose because of problems associated with pesticide use. Representative cultivars and genotypes of 18 warm-season turfgrass [Zoysia japonica Steud., Z. japonica${\times}$Z. metrella hybrids, Z. japonica${\times}$Z. tenuifotia hybrids, Z. matrella (L.) Merr., Cynodon dactylon (L.) Pers., C. dactylon${\times}$C. transvallensis hybrids, Paspalum notatum Flugge., P. vaginatum Swartz., Stenotaphrum secundatum (Walt.) Kuntze, Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro.) and Buchloe dactyloides (Nutt.) Engelm.] and 20 cool-season turfgrasses [Poa pratensis L., Festuca arundinacea Schreb., F. rubra L., F. rubra var. commutata Gaud., F. ovina var. duriuscula L. Koch. Agrostis tenuis Sibth., A. palustris Huds., and Latium perenne L.] were evaluated for host resistance to feeding by the Spodoptera depravata (Butler) in the laboratory. Two experiments were set up in the laboratory using 8.5cm diameter${\times}$4.0cm deep plastic petri dishes as larvae feeding chambers. In experiment 1, one neonate larvae were place on the grass in each dish and the dishes were arranged with 5 replicates each within an environmental chamber maintained at $25^{\circ}C$ and 15h light: 9h dark Larval survival and larval weights at 7d and 14d, pupal weights, and days to pupation were compared among turfgrasses. In Experiment 2, 4cm sections of all grasses were oriented equidistant from each other in a pattern resembling the spokes of a wheel. Five one neonate larvae were introduced to the center of each dish. Dishes were immediately placed in an environmental chamber held at $25^{\circ}C$, 15h light: 9h dark Larvae were allowed to feed for 24h. Damage was rated from 0(no damage) to 9(completely consumed) were made for eachturfgrass. Resistance as antibiosis (high mortality, slowed growth, and least preference) was identified in Z. japonica${\times}$Z. tenuifolia hybirids ‘Emerald’, Z. japonica${\times}$Z. metrella hybirds ‘Miyako’ and Eremochloa ophiuroides (Munro.). Cool-season turfgrasses tested were susceptible to feeding by Spodoptera depravata (Butler).

Fish Fauna and Community in Cheongpyeong Reservoir (청평호의 어류상 및 어류군집)

  • The fish fauna and community structure were investigated in the Lake Cheongpyeong, Korea, from August 2003 to April 2004. During the period, 43 species belonging 10 families were collected. There were 18 Korean endemic species 41.9%. The five dominant species numerically were A. gracilis (17.4%), Zacco platypus (14.6%), A. yamatsutae (13.2%), Hemibarbus labeo (11.9%), Rhinogobius brunneus (11.7%), and Zacco temmicki (3.0%). The five dominant species in biomass were Erythroculter erythropterus (15.07 kg), H. labeo (13.21 kg), Carassius cuvieri (6.47 kg), A. gracilis (6.05 kg), and Z. platypus (4.71 kg). Of 6 exotic fishes in the lake C. cuvieri, Lepomis macrochirus and Micropterus salmoides were originated from foreign countries but Anguilla japonica, Tridentiger brevispinis, and Chaenogobius urotaenius were introduced from other watershed in Korea.

Isolated Right Ventricular Hypoplasia -A case report- (독립된 우심실 형성부전 - 1예 보고 -)

  • Isolated right ventricular hypoplasia is a rare clinical entity. We describe a case of right ventricular hypoplasia, single atrium and spongy myocardium of left ventricle. The volume of right ventricle was half the volume of left ventricle and z-value of tricuspid valve was -4 preoperatively The patient, 6-year-old boy, underwent atrial partitioning with 3 mm fenestration, Postoperative course was smooth and he tolerated the biventricular state well during follow-up. Follow-up catherterization was done 27 months later The tricuspid valve grew well (z-value= -0.4) and atrial septal fenestration is closed spontaneously. This article reports a case of successful biventricular repair in a patient with isolated right ventricular hypoplasia.

  • We have developed a planar-type single layer second-order $high-T_{c}$ SQUID gradiometer, which can detect the $d^2$$B_{z/}$dxdy of the second-order field gradient. This SQUID gradiometer consists of four-way 'clover-leaf' pick-up loops and is coupled directly to a 4-junction dc SQUID in such a way that the coupling polarity of the two diagonal loops is opposite to that of the other two loops. The pickup loops are intrinsically balanced for both uniform field and the 1 st-order field gradient. The $YBa_2$$Cu_3$$O_{7}$ thin film was made by pulsed laser deposition method on $SrTiO_3$ single crystal substrate and patterned by photolithography with Ar ion milling technique. Response of this gradiometer was tested for both uniform field and the 2nd-order field gradient. Details of the design, fabrication, and results will be discussed.
