고이득 및 광대역 특성의 밀리미터파 MHEMT Cascode 증폭기 (High Gain and Broadband Millimeter-wave MHEMT Cascode Amplifier)

  • 본 논문에서는 밀리미터파 대역에서 고이득과 광대역 특성을 갖는 MHEMT(Metamorphic High Electron Mobility Transistor) cascode 증폭기를 설계 및 제작하였다. Cascode 증폭기 제작을 위해 0.1 ㎛ InGaAs/InAlAs/GaAs MHEMT를 설계ㆍ제작하였다. 제작된 MHEMT는 드레인 전류 밀도 640 mA/mm, 최대 전달컨덕턴스(gm)는 653 mS/mm를 얻었으며, 주파수 특성으로 f/sub T/는 173 GHz, f/sub max/는 271 GHz의 우수한 특성을 나타내었다. Cascode 증폭기는 CPW 전송선로를 이용하여 광대역 특성을 얻을 수 있도록 정합회로를 설계하였으며, 1단과 2단 증폭기의 2가지 종류로 회로를 설계하였다. 설계된 증폭기는 본 연구에서 개발된 MHEMT MIMIC 공정을 이용해 제작되었다. 제작된 cascode 증폭기의 측정결과, 1단 증폭기는 3 dB 대역폭이 31.3∼68.3 GHz로 37 GHz의 넓은 대역 특성을 얻었으며, 대역내에서 평균 9.7 dB 및 40 GHz에서 최대 11.3 dB의 S21 이득 특성을 나타내었다. Cascode 2단 증폭기는, 3 dB 대역폭이 32.5∼62.0 GHz로 29.5 GHz의 대역폭과 대역내에서 평균 20.4 dB 및 36.5 GHz에서 최대 22.3 dB의 높은 이득 특성을 얻었다.

한반도에서 발생한 중규모 대류계의 구름 주변 난류 발생 메커니즘 사례 연구 (A Case Study on Near-Cloud Turbulence around the Mesoscale Convective System in the Korean Peninsula)

  • At 0843 UTC 30 May 2021, a commercial aircraft encountered severe turbulence at z = 11.5 km associated with the rapid development of Mesoscale Convective System (MCS) in the Gyeonggi Bay of Korea. To investigate the generation mechanisms of Near-Cloud Turbulence (NCT) near the MCS, Weather Research and Forecasting model was used to reproduce key features at multiple-scales with four nested domains (the finest ∆x = 0.2 km) and 112 hybrid vertical layers. Simulated subgrid-scale turbulent kinetic energy (SGS TKE) was located in three different regions of the MCS. First, the simulated NCT with non-zero SGS TKE at z = 11.5 km at 0835 UTC was collocated with the reported NCT. Cloud-induced flow deformation and entrainment process on the downstream of the overshooting top triggered convective instability and subsequent SGS TKE. Second, at z = 16.5 km at 0820 UTC, the localized SGS TKE was found 4 km above the overshooting cloud top. It was attributed to breaking down of vertically propagating convectively-induced gravity wave at background critical level. Lastly, SGS TKE was simulated at z = 11.5 km at 0930 UTC during the dissipating stage of MCS. Upper-level anticyclonic outflow of MCS intensified the environmental westerlies, developing strong vertical wind shear on the northeastern quadrant of the dissipating MCS. Three different generation mechanisms suggest the avoidance guidance for the possible NCT events near the entire period of the MCS in the heavy air traffic area around Incheon International Airport in Korea.

  • For the accurate measurement of acoustic properties of a surface, efforts have been made to reduce errors caused by external disturbance. If the reflection coefficient is considered as a transfer function between reflected wave and incident wave, causality is required between them and the reflection coefficient should be of minimum phase. In this thesis, the minimum phase condition is applied to measure correct reflection coefficient. The reflection coefficient is approximated as a rational function in the Z domain by minimizing the sum square error. Then the minimum phase reflection coefficient is reconstructed using the distribution of poles and zeros of the reflection coefficient model. The incident wave, the reflected wave and the impulse response function of causality are recalculated from the minimum phase reflection coefficient for further applications.

  • For the Mach reflection of symmetric shock waves, only the wave configuration of an oMR(DiMR+DiMR) is theoretically admissible. For asymmetric shock waves, an oMR(DiMR+InMR) will be possible if the two slip layers assemble a convergent-divergent stream tube while an oMR(InMR+InMR) is absolutely impossible. In this paper, an overall Mach reflection configuration with double inverse MR patterns is confirmed using the CFD technique. Classical two- and three-shock theories are also applied for the theoretical analysis. In addition, oscillations of shock wave patterns are computed for the interaction of a hypersonic flow and double-wedge-like geometries.

  • $Eu^{2+}$-doped $\beta$-SiAlONs ($Si_{6-z}Al_zO_zN_{8-z}:Eu_y$) are recognized as promising phosphor materials to build an white LED for lighting application due to its excellent absorption/emission efficiency in the long wave length region. In this research, the fabrication of $\beta$-SiAlON:Eu plate phosphor by sintering was investigated with fixed Eu content(y) and varied composition of the host lattice(z). The addition of the activator $Eu_2O_3$ lead to enhanced densification by forming the transient liquid phase. The refinement of a composition by the calculated lattice parameter indicated that the measured composition of the fabricated specimens is nearly same to that of designed one. The single phase $\beta$-SiAlON:Eu plate with relative density of 96.4% was achieved by addition of 2 wt% CaO, which implies the possibility of full densification by adjusting the processing variables.

  • Ti:LiNbO$_3$ 세 도파로형 광도파로와 CPW 진행파 전극으로 구성된 고속 외부 광변조기를 설계, 제작하였다. 결합모드 이론을 이용하여 세 도파로 광결합기의 스위칭 현상을 해석하였으며, 유한차분법을 이용하여 결합길이를 계산하였다. SOR에 의해 위상속도 및 특성 임피던스 정합 조건이 만족되도록 CPW 진행파 전극의 파라미터를 설계하였다. 제작된 소자의 dc 스위칭 및 전극의 RF 특성을 측정하였다. 제작된 세 도파로 광변조기의 삽입손실과 스위칭 전압은 약 4 dB와 15.6 V였다. RF 특성을 얻기 위하여 회로분석기(Network Analyzer)를 이용하여 진행파 전극의 S 파라미터를 측정하였다. 측정 결과 진행파 전극의 특성임피던스 Z$_{c}$=39.2$\Omega$, M/W(Microwave) 유효굴절률 N$_{eff}$=2.48, 그리고 감쇠상수 a$_{m}$ =0.0665/(equation omitted)등의 파라미터를 추출하였다. 추출된 진행파 전극 파라미터를 이용하여 이론적인 주파수 응답 R($\omega$)을 계산하였으며, 광 검출기로 측정된 주파수 응답 R($\omega$)과 비교하였다. 주파수 응답측정 결과, 3 dB 변조대역폭은 13 GHz로 측정되었다.

파랑존재시 해저 모래결위의 부유사 농도분포 (Suspended Sediment Concentrations over Ripples for Waves)

  • 본 논문에서는 파랑이 존재할 때 모래결위에서의 흐름과 부유사의 거동에 관하여 기술한다. 새로운 수치모형시스템을 구축하였으며 이를 규칙파랑을 이용한 기존 실험실 실험조건과 가상적불규칙파랑조건에 적용하였다. 흐름장 계산은 SMAC 방법에 근거한 프로그램 SOLA를 Kim 등(1994)이 일부 수정하여 제시한 프로그램을 사용하였다. 흐름계산 부모형은 x-z 면에서의 연속방정식과 Reynolds의 운동방정식을 기본방정식으로 한다. 흐름부모형으로 파랑궤적도, 전단응력, 압력의 분포를 계산하였다. 모형실험결과 중 수직방향궤적도는 관측자료와 잘 일치하였다. 퇴적물이동 부모형은 부유사의 이류확산을 나타내는 식을 기본방정식으로 한다. 수치기법은 분리기법을 이용하며, 모래결 표면으로부터 퇴적물이 연행되어 유체내로 투입된다. 규칙파랑 실험조건에 수치모형을 적용한 결과, 부유사농도의 연직분포가 Deltaflume의 실험자료와 유사하게 재현되었다. 가상적인 불규칙 파랑조건에 모형을 적용한 결과 부유사농도의 높게, 부유사확산 범위가 더 넓게 예측되었다.

충격파 내에서 형성되는 아르곤 기체의 운동 에너지 분포와 속도 분포에 대한 비평형 분자동역학 모의실험 연구 (Nonequilibrium Molecular Dynamics Simulation Study of Kinetic Energy and Velocity Distribution Profiles of Argon Gases in Shock Waves)

  • A series of nonequilibrium molecular dynamics(NEMD) simulations are performed to investigate the kinetic energy and velocity distributions of molecules in shock waves. In the simulations, argon molecules are used as a medium gas through which shock waves are propagating. The kinetic energy distribution profiles reveals that as a strong shock wave whose Mach number is 27.1 is applied, 39.6% of argon molecules inside the shock wave have larger kinetic energy than molecular ionization energy. This indicates that an application of a strong shock wave to argon gas can give rise to an intense light. The velocity distribution profiles in z direction along which shock waves propagate clearly represent two Maxwell-Boltzmann distributions of molecular velocities in two equilibrium regions and one bimodal velocity distribution profile that is attributed to a nonequilibrium region. The peak appearing in the directional temperature in z direction is discussed on a basis of the bimodal velocity distribution in the nonequilibrium region.

FIRST PRINCIPLE CALCULATIONS OF MCD SPECTRA FOR SANDWICHED Co(110) SYSTEMS

  • X-ray magnetic-circular-dichroism (MCD) spectra, orbital ($$) and spin magnetic moments ($$) for Co(110) monolayers a free standing mode or sandwiched between Pd(Pd/1Co/Pd)and Cu layers (Cu/1Co/Cu) are calculated using the thin film full potential linearized augmented plane wave energy band method. In contrast to the double peak structure predicted for the Co(0001) surface, only a minor side peak is found in the MCD spectra for Cu/Co/Cu, while MCD spectra for the other systems show a single peak structure. The MCD sum rules originally derived from a single ion model are found in the band approach to be valid for the systems investigated. However, for the spin sum rule, the magnetic dipole term ($$) is not negligible and needs to be included.
