  • We derive the Z-parameters for the two coupled antennas used for wireless power transfer under the assumption that the antennas are canonical minimum scattering antennas. Using the Z-parameter and the maximum power transfer efficiency formula, we determine the maximum power transfer efficiency of wireless power transfer systems. The results showed that the maximum power transfer efficiency increases as the mode number or the radiation efficiency increases. To verify the theory, we fabricate and measure two different power transfer systems: one comprises two antennas generating $TM_{01}$ mode; the other comprises two antennas generating $TM_{02}$ mode. When the distance between the centers of the antennas was 30 cm, the maximum power transfer efficiency of the antennas generating the $TM_{02}$ mode increased by 62 % compared to that of the antennas generating the $TM_{01}$ mode.

  • Synchronizing errors between the spindle motor and the z-axis motor directly influences the cutting characteristics and the thread quality in tapping, because the tapping process is accomplished by synchronizing the movement of the z-axis with the revolutionary spindle motion. Generally synchronizing errors are decided by tile parameters of the servo system and commanded velocity. The excessive synchronizing errors which are induced by the parameter mismatch and high cutting velocity can cause tap breakage due to the abrupt increase of cutting torque or damage the thread accuracy by overcutting the already cut threads. In this paper, the influences of the synchronizing errors on the tapping characteristics in the ultra high-speed tapping will be described and a minimum level of synchronizing errors necessary to maintain the quality of the cut thread will be presented.

  • This paper presents d new algorithm to compute the offlet curve of a given planar parametric curve. We reduce the problem of computing an offset curve to that of intersecting a surface to a paraboloid. Given an input curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t))∈R², the corresponding surface D/sub c(t)/ is constructed symbolically as the envelope surface of a one-parameter family of tangent planes of the paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²along a lifted curve C(t)=(x(t), y(t), x(t)²+y(t)²∈Q. Given an offset distance d∈R, the offset curve C/sub d/(t) is obtained by the projection of the intersection curve of D/sub c(t)/ and a paraboloid Q:z=x²+y²-d² into the xy-plane.

  • It is proposed in this paper the practical load carrying capacity formula for web crippling in trapezoidal sheeting (deckplate). The parameter functions are derived by investigation of the major parameters influencing of load carrying capacity based on the existing theoretical research with experiment analogical interpretation model. The simple strength formula is proposed in analytic comparison of each parameters with the existing experimental data. From statistical evaluations due to Annex Z of Eurocode 3 the partial safety resistance factors ${\gamma}_M$ are calculated and compared with the target value of 1.1.

  • Electronic circuits are becoming more vulnerable owing to the development of integrated circuit. Computer and info-communication facilities are very sensitive to surges caused by lightning, and they can suffer a malfunction and damage. Recent concern about damage and upset caused by transient overvoltages has focused on surge protection. The most important parameter in surge protection is the transient grounding impedance. In this paper, the transient grounding impedances of a rod electrode have been measured under impulse current waves. Z-t, Z-i and V-i characteristics of the grounding electrode in according to the length of the grounding lead wire were obtained and analyzed.

  • The perturbation approach is applied to solve the nonlinear Schrodinger equation, and its valid range has been determined by comparing with the results of the split-step Fourier method over a wide range of parameter values. With γ= 2㎞/sup -1/mW/sup -1/, the critical distance for the first order perturbation approach is estimated to be(equation omitted). The critical distance, Z/sub c/, is defined as the distance at which the normalized square deviation compared to the split-step Fourier method reaches 10/sup -3/. Including the second order perturbation will increase Z/sub c/ more than a factor of two, but the increased computation load makes the perturbation approach less attractive. In addition, it is shown mathematically that the perturbation approach is equivalent to the Volterra series approach, which can be used to design a nonlinear equalizer (or compensator). Finally, the perturbation approach is applied to obtain the sinusoidal response of the fiber, and its range of validity has been studied.

  • In this talk I will review recent progress that the SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has made in constraining cosmology from the clustering of galaxies, quasars and the Lyman-alpha forest. The SDSS-IV / eBOSS collaboration has measured the baryon acoustic oscillation (BAO) and redshift space distortion (RSD) features in the correlation function in redshift bins from z~0.15 to z~2.33. These features constitute measurements of angular diameter distances, Hubble distances, and growth rate measurements. A number of consistency tests have been performed between the BAO and RSD datasets and additional cosmological datasets such as the Planck cosmic microwave background constraints, the Pantheon Type Ia supernova compilation, and the weak lensing results from the Dark Energy Survey. Taken together, these joint constraints all point to a broad consistency with the standard model of cosmology LCDM + GR, though they remain in tension with local measurements of the Hubble parameter.

  • In this study, we assess impact of spatial resolution of radar rainfall and a distributed hydrologic model on parameter estimation and rainfall-runoff response. Radar data measured by S-band polarimetric radar located at Mt. Bisl in the year of 2012 are used for the comparative study. As different rainfall estimates such as R-KDP, R-Z, and R-ZDR show good agreement with ground rainfall, R-KDP are applied for rainfall-runoff modeling due to relatively high accuracy in terms of catchment averaged and gauging point rainfall. GRM (grid based rainfall-runoff model) is implemented for flood simulations at the Geumho River catchment with spatial resolutions of 200m, 500m, and 1000m. Automatic calibration is performed by PEST (model independent parameter estimation tool) to find suitable parameters for each spatial resolution. For 200m resolution, multipliers of overlandflow and soil hydraulic conductivity are estimated within stable ranges, while high variations are found from results for 500m and 1000m resolution. No tendency is found in the estimated initial soil moisture. When parameters estimated for different spatial resolution are applied for other resolutions, 200m resolution model shows higher sensitivity compared to 1000m resolution model.

  • An epitaxial NiSi structure on Si (001) substrate was studied by using density functional theory (DFT). Orhorhombic and B2-NiSi structures were compared first. B2 structure was further considered as it has same crystal structure as Si and the lattice mismatch between B2 and Si is small, compared to orthorhombic-NiSi. The lattice parameters of x- and y-direction in B2-NiSi structure were modified to match with those in Si (001). The size reduction of the lattice parameter of B2-NiSi to match with that of Si increased the lattice parameter of z-direction by 10.5%. Therefore, we propose that an optimum structure of NiSi for epitaxial growth on Si (001) is a tetragonal structure.

  • Fuzzy Min-Max Neural Network(FMMNN) is a powerful classifier, It has, however, some problems. Learning result depends on the presentation order of input data and the training parameter that limits the size of hyperbox. The latter problem affects the result seriously. In this paper, the new approach to alleviate that without loss of on-line learning ability is proposed. The committee machine is used to achieve the multi-resolution FMMNN. Each expert is a FMMNN with fixed training parameter. The advantages of small and large training parameters are used at the same time. The parameters are selected by performance and independence measures. The Decision of each expert is guided by the gating network. Therefore the regional and parametric divide and conquer scheme are used. Simulation shows that the proposed method has better classification performance.
