  • Non-volatile memory is approaching its fundamental limits with the Si3N4 storage layer, necessitating the use of alternative materials to achieve a higher programming/erasing speed, larger storage window, and better data retention at lower operating voltage. This limitation has restricted the development of the charge-trap memory, but can be addressed by using high-k dielectrics. The paper reviews the doping of nitrogen, titanium, and yttrium on high-k dielectrics as a storage layer by comparing MONOS devices with different storage layers. The results show that nitrogen doping increases the storage window of the Gd2O3 storage layer and improves its charge retention. Titanium doping can increase the charge capture rate of HfO2 storage layer. Yttrium doping increases the storage window of the BaTiO3 storage layer and improves its fatigue characteristics. Parameters such as the dielectric constant, leakage current, and speed of the memory device can be controlled by maintaining a suitable amount of external impurities in the device.

  • Seborrheic keratoses (SKs) have been treated with non-ablative longpulsed (LP) lasers, including LP 532-nm neodymium (Nd): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG), LP 695-nm ruby, LP 755-nm alexandrite (Alex), and LP 1,064-nm Nd:YAG lasers, with a pulse durations of 1-300 msec. Dual-wavelength LP 755-nm Alex/1,064-nm Nd:YAG laser systems have been used to remove hair follicles and treat various vascular and pigmented disorders by sequentially delivering two pulses of different wavelengths with interpulse intervals in the millisecond range. This paper reports the case of a female patient with multiple, discrete, light brown SKs on the dorsum of both hands that were treated effectively with one session of dual-wavelength LP 1,064-nm Nd:YAG/755-nm Alex laser treatment. The treatment settings for the LP Nd:YAG laser were comprised of a wavelength of 1,064 nm, fluence of 50 J/cm2, pulse duration of 5 msec, and beam size of 3 mm. The settings for the LP Alex laser were comprised of a wavelength of 755 nm, fluence of 50 J/cm2, pulse duration of 5 msec, and beam size of 3 mm. A hybrid mode was used to automatically deliver LP Nd:YAG and LP Alex laser pulses in succession at interpulse intervals of 20 msec. Six weeks after treatment, the patient exhibited remarkable improvement of the light brown seborrheic keratoses and was satisfied with the results.

  • In this study, spherical monodispersed cerium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG : $Ce^{3+}$) phosphor particles were synthesized via homogeneous precipitation method using the mixed solution of yttrium nitrate, cerium nitrate, aluminum nitrate, ammonium aluminum sulfate, and urea as a precipitant. During the process of precursors of monodispersed YAG : $Ce^{3+}$, aluminum ions which form spherical aluminum compounds precipitated first and yttrium compounds precipitated onto the surface of the existing spherical aluminum compounds. Drying process using lyophilization could obtain monodispered spherical YAG : $Ce^{3+}$ particles compare to using oven. The thermal calcination process of YAG : $Ce^{3+}$ precursors under the temperature of $1200^{\circ}C$ for 6 h was enough to obtain 400~500 nm sized YAG particles with pure YAG phase.

  • Hydrous zirconia particles were prepared from $ZrOCl_2$ aqueous solution using an electro-dialysis [ED] process. For the preparation of $(Zr,Y)(OH)_4$ precipitates, 3 mol% $YCl_3$ was added into $ZrOCl_2$ aqueous solution. During the hydrolysis of 0.5 mol/L $(Zr,Y)OCl_2$ solution at $90^{\circ}C$ a slurry solution was obtained. The ED process was used for the removal of chlorine from the slurry solution. Two kinds of slurry solution were sampled at the beginning and end of the ED process. The morphology of hydrous zirconia particles in the solution was observed using an inverted optical microscope and an FE-SEM. The hydrous zirconia particles were nano-crystalline, and easily coagulated with drying. Yttrium stabilized zirconia [YSZ] powder could be obtained by the calcination of $(Zr,Y)(OH)_4$ precipitates prepared from a $(Zr,Y)OCl_2$ solution by the ED process. The coagulated dry powders were shaped and sintered at $1500^{\circ}C$ for 2 h. The sintered body showed a dense microstructure with uniform grain morphology.

  • The eight coordinated yttrium(III) complex Y(tpb)3(H2O)2 (Htpb=4,4,4-Trifluoro-1-phenyl-1,3-butanedione) has been synthesized and structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction method. The coordination polyhedron of Y(tpb)3(H2O)2 has a dodecahedron. The angle between two trapezia, Y-O2-O1-O5-O6 and Y-O4-O3-O8-O7, is 89.59°. The O1-O5 and O3-O8 distances are 2.965 and 2.995 A whereas the O2-O6 and O4-O7 distances are 4.256 and 4.403 A.
