  • Seligman argues that an optimistic athlete wins based on a study of US professional baseball and professional basketball players.(trans. Choi, 2008). So, the purpose of this study was to investigate whether optimism can predict the performance of badminton youth representatives. 60 high school students were divided into two groups according to their performance. We used the revised Life Orientation Test (LOT-R) developed by Scheier, Carver and Bridges(1994) and translated into Korean version by Shin Hyun-sook(2005). For this study, the data were analyzed by frequency analysis, reliability analysis, and independent t - test. As a result, there was a statistically significant higher level of optimism in the excellent group than in the non-excellent group. So, in order to improve sports performance, we need psychological skills training that can improve optimism as well as physical training and skills training.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the degree of improvement of scoliosis, muscle function and VAS between the exercise group and the control group after conducting correct posture exercise program with 20 female students diagnosed with scoliosis through PAPS in M middle school for 12 weeks. The conclusion was as follows. Cobb's angle in exercise group was changed from $11.6^{\circ}{\ae}2.5^{\circ}\acute{y} $ to $7.3^{\circ}{\ae}2.0^{\circ}\acute{y} $ which was statistically significant difference (p<.001). However, the change in Cobb's angle was not significant in control group, hence there was no statistically significant difference. The limber back strength was changed from $45.9^{\circ}{\ae}8.7$ kg to $51.6^{\circ}{\ae}14.9$ kg and sit-up was changed from $13.7^{\circ}{\ae}5.1$ times to $12.9^{\circ}{\ae}5.3$ times in exercise group, but they were not statistically significant. Control group also showed no statistically significant change in back strength and sit-up. The degree of VAS was changed from $7.3^{\circ}{\ae}1.6$ to $3.3^{\circ}{\ae}2.4$ which was a statistically significant difference (p<.01) in exercise group. However, there was no statistically significant difference in control group. Consequently, correct posture exercise program was considered to be effective for the reduction of Cobb's angle and degree of VAS for middle school female students with scoliosis. Therefore the correct posture exercise program can be recommended for youth scoliosis to improve and prevent the body imbalance and ultimately for the health of the youths.

  • This study was to analyze the Life-Cycle Physical Activity Therapy Programs (PATPs) in Hoseo Region and to suggest the Activation of the program. The subjects were the 81 PATPs performed in 36 of the Community Health Centers in the region. The basic data was collected by Official Documents, the Homepage of the Centers, Telephone Interview, and e-mail with the person in charge of the programs. All the data were classified to the administrative districts (Rural, Urban-Rural Intergration and Urban Region), the Life Cycles (Children, Youth, Adult and Old Adult) and the Health-related Fitness Variables (Strength/Muscle endurance, Flexibility and Aerobics). The ACSM's (American College Sports Medicine) Guidelines for Exercise Testing and Prescription were used to evaluate the PATPs. In the results, the number of the PATPs was too low compared to the population. Also, the PATPs were not considered to the Life-Cycle proportion of the population. The management of the PATPs was principally inadequate. The frequency and duration of the PATPs were deficient in order to improve the Health-related Fitness. In conclusion, the number of the PATPs should be increased proportionally compared to the population, operated and developed on the Specificity of the Life-Cycle Population in the administrative districts. Further, the PATPs should be managed on the scientific knowledge of physical activity therapy.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of human motion and javelin kinematics during the energy transfer in javelin throwing on records, and to provide evidence-based training insights for athletes and coaches to enhance records. Method: Three javelin throw athletes (age: 22.67 ± 0.58 years, height: 178.33 ± 7.37 cm, weight: 83.67 ± 1.15 kg) were recruited for this study. Each athlete attempted ten maximum record trials, and the kinematic data from each performance were analyzed to determine their influence on the records. The Theia3d Markerless system was used for motion analysis. Results: Key factors were modeled and identified at each moment. In E1, main variables were COM Y (𝛽 8.162, p<.05) and COM velocity Z (𝛽 -72.489, p<.05); in E2, COM X (𝛽 -17.604, p<.05); in E3, COM X (𝛽 -18.606, p<.05), COM velocity Y (𝛽 38.694, p<.05), and COM velocity X (𝛽 66.323, p<.05). For the javelin throw dynamics in E3, key determinants were Attitude angle and Javelin velocity in the Y-axis. Conclusion: The study reveals that controlled vertical movement, center of mass management during braking, and enhanced pelvic rotation significantly improve javelin throw performance. These kinematic strategies are critical for record enhancement in javelin throwing.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify available evidence related to physical activity interventions that were effective to improve health-related physical fitness levels of children and youth with disabilities. Studies were accumulated from multiple databases (i.e., ERIC, Child Development & Adolescent Studies, MEDLINE, SPORTDiscus with Full Text, and CINAHL Plus with Full Text). From the initial process, 1195 articles were identified and of those, 13 studies (n = 13) were analyzed. Based on the results, community-based physical activities were the most common environment of interventions followed by school-based and home-based. Further, the most improved health-related physical fitness outcomes were muscular strength, muscular endurance, and cardiorespiratory endurance while limited evidence on weight reduction was available. There is a need for more research on physical activity intervention which particularly improves health related physical fitness of children and youth with disabilities.

  • The goal of the study is to analyze some structural issues of e-sport industry which has rapidly developed since 2000. Most of the previous studies regarding e-sport dealt with e-sport in terms of industrial prospect and economic values. In this study, we attempted to focus on employees of the field using in-depth interview method. Research findings show that there were several reasons for younger workers to early enter into the industry such as individualized labor market of post-modern era, growth of IT industry, and diversion of related occupational categories. The development of e-sport industry was possible with the youth' passion for the industry. However, their labor so called "professional" is vulnerable without systematic structure for them. This indicates that industrial prospect of e-sport industry and business models are not healthy. In addition, some implications of the findings were discussed.

  • This study investigated the differences in time use patterns and psychological states across daily activity contexts and interpersonal contexts, depending on the levels of school maladjustment among elementary school students. Using the Experience Sampling Method (ESM), 107 elementary school 6th grade students' daily time use patterns and psychological states across daily contexts were measured six times a day over a period of 4 days. Using the school maladjustment scale, an internal problem based school maladjusted group and an external problem based school maladjusted group were identified and selected. The daily time use patterns and psychological states of both school maladjusted groups were compared to those of the adjusted groups. The principle findings are as follows: first, the school maladjusted group students' daily time use patterns across daily activity contexts or interpersonal contexts did not differ from those of the students from the school adjusted group. Second, the school maladjusted group students experienced more negative emotions, lower concentration levels, and lower motivation levels across daily contexts than the school adjusted group students. These differences in motivation between the external problem school maladjusted group and adjusted group, however, were greater in the schoolwork context compared to the other daily activity contexts. The findings were discussed in the contexts of the daily experiences of child school maladjustment.

  • This study examined risk and protective variables related with the continuity of developmental risks among 136 infants, aged 4-10 months. Using the Denver Developmental Screening Test, 136 infants among 2978 infants in the first wave of the Korea Child Panel were classified into the developmental risk group. Among the 136 risk group infants, 45 infants stayed in the risk group (continuing risk group) and the other 91 infants moved into the normal group (recovering risk group) after 1 year. Group differences were tested in the levels of infant, mother and father variables to examine which variables were associated with the continuity of developmental risks for a year. Variables indicating parents' marital relationships such as the mothers' marital satisfaction and conflict of the first wave and the fathers' marital satisfaction of the second wave significantly distinguished the continuing from the recovering risk group. In addition, there were significant group differences in the levels of mothers' self-efficacy in the first wave. The findings suggest that the exposure to marital conflict during infancy is associated with the continuity of developmental risks.

  • The goal of this study was to investigate the daily manifestation of positive and negative affect states of early adolescent depression across daily interpersonal contexts. Forty-five boys and 44 girls in the second `year of middle schools participated and were classified into 3 groups according to CDI scores. Among 89 students 59 students in the highest or the lowest CDI groups continued to participate in the next step of this study. Using the Experience Sampling Method(ESM), the 59 students reported their affect states 6 times per day across four daily interpersonal contexts: the contexts alone, with all classmates, with a few friends, and with family members. The major findings were as follows. frst, the high CDI group felt more worried, angrier, more hurried, less happy, less interested, less control, and less relaxed than the low CDI adolescent group. Second, the negative affect states of the high CDI adolescent group did not vary across the interpersonal contexts, whereas their positive affect states were the highest in the context with a few friends. Implications of the findings were discussed in illuminating the phenomenology of adolescent depression.
