Narrative Structure of 4-and 5-year-olds by Type of Play Materials (4, 5세 유아의 놀이감 종류에 따른 가상이야기 꾸미기)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between age, internal state information, and narrative structure. Another purpose was to examine how the kinds of replica play and story props affect the theme of children's narratives. The subjects were 36 4-and 5-year-olds. Children's narratives were audiotaped and analyzed accordmg to narrative structure, themes and internal state factors. The results indicated that 5-year-olds showed well organized narrative structure such as a descriptive narrative and a primary plotted narrative whereas 4-year-old presented no response and a descriptive narrative. Also, 5-year-olds used more internal state information in the narratives than 4-year-olds. The replica figures serve to remind the chiidren of story themes: the children with police props presented negative themes while children with playground props showed positive themes.

Effect of Traditional Play based Physical Activity Program on Social Competence of Young Children (전통놀이를 활용한 신체활동 프로그램이 유아의 사회적 유능감에 미치는 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to test effects of traditional play based physical activity program on social competence. To obtain this purpose, the following research hypotheses were established. First, experimental group will show higher level of social activity than control group. Second, experimental group will show higher level of stability than control group. Third, experimental group will show higher level of cooperation than control group. Fourth, experimental group will show higher level of hypersensitiveness than control group. Forty eight four year children participated in this study. Iowa Social Competency Scale(Preschool Form) was used to measure children's social competence. Collected data were analyzed using t-test and analysis of covariance. The results of this study showed that program was effective in improving children's socal competence. These results were discussed in relation to previous study. Finally research questions for future study were suggested with comment on limitations of this study.

Validation of The Parent Version of Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale for Young Children (부모용 또래 놀이행동 척도(PIPPS-P)의 타당화)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the construct validity of the Penn Interactive Peer Play Scale on the parent version. The participants of this study were 231 children in the Seoul and Gyeonggi provincial areas. The instruments included the 32-item exploratory PIPPS (Choi & Shin, 2008), and the Preschool Behavior Questionnaire (PBQ; Park, 1992). The data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, factor analysis, Pearson's r and Cronbach ${\alpha}$. The results were as follows. First, the PIPPPS on the parent version was validated with supporting three factors: Play Disruption, Play Disconnection and Play Interaction with 30 items. The sub-factors of the PIPPS were related with those of the PBQ as criterion measurements. The reliability coefficients of the sub-factors of the PIPPS were ranged from .78 to .82.

Effects of Teacher Intervention in Sociodramatic Play on Social Play Levels, Social Skills and Language Abilities of Young Children (사회극화놀이에서 교사개입이 유아의 사회극화놀이 수준, 사회적 기술 및 언어능력에 미치는 효과)

  • The subjects of this study on the effects of teacher intervention in sociodramatic plays were 54 five-year-old children from 2 public kindergartens in C city. Socioeconomic stasus and, aside from teacher interventions, educational procedures were the same for both the experimental group(28 subjects) and the control (26 subjects) groups in both schools. Instruments were the Social Play Rating Scale(Smilansky & Shefatya, 1990), Social Situations Measure(McGinnis & Goldstein, 1990), and Language Ability Test(Chang, 1981). Procedures included pretest, 14 weeks treatments and post-test. Data were analyzed by t-test. Results indicated significant differences in social play levels between the experimental and control groups, (b) including differences in such general social skills as emotional control and relationships with others. There were also differences in language ability, including such subordinates as language understanding and expressive abilities.

Changes in Peer Acceptance and Play Interactions in Integrated Groups of Young Children With and Without Disabilities Through Story-Based Interactive Music Activities (장애-비장애 유아 통합 그룹에 적용된 이야기 기반 상호적 음악 활동에 따른 유아의 또래수용 및 놀이상호작용 변화)

  • This study explored whether story-based interactive music activities improve play interactions between children with developmental disabilities (DD) and typically developing (TD) children at an integrated daycare center, and whether these activities influence TD children's attitudes towards their DD peers. The participants included six children with DD, aged 3-5 years, and 21 TD peers. They attended 10 sessions, each 30 minutes, twice a week. Play interactions were observed during free play after each session, and TD children's attitudes towards peers with DD were assessed before and after the intervention. The results showed that children with TD and DD in the integrated group showed significantly reduced disengagement, with notable improvements in joint action for TD children and joint attention for DD children. However, there were no significant changes in peer acceptance among TD children in the integrated group while there was a significant decrease in the non-integrated group. This study highlights that story-based interactive music activities effectively enhance interactions between TD and DD children. However, the limited impact on peer acceptance suggests the need for more long-term and systematic interventions, considering the children's developmental levels. The study also emphasizes the importance of tailored approaches that address the individual needs of both TD and DD children, providing valuable insights into the direction of systematic interventions at a time when the importance of social integration is increasingly recognized.

The Effects of Children's Play Activities through Forest Experience on Their Parents' Expectation and Their Multiple Intelligence Improvement (숲 체험 놀이 활동이 유아 학부모의 기대감과 유아의 다중지능향상에 미치는 영향)

  • This study examines the effects of children's play activities through forest experience on their parents' expectation and multiple intelligence improvement. To achieve this, an empirical survey was conducted by applying a structural equation model to 152 parents with children. As a result, first, physical and cognitive factors were adopted, and social factors were rejected in the factors that influence the physical, social, and cognitive factors of children's forest experience play activities on parents' expectation of children's safety activities and concern about fine dust. Second, their physical, social and cognitive factors affected their sociality among sub-factors of multiple intelligence improvement. Their social and cognitive spontaneities significantly affected their sensitivity and creativity improvements. Third, parents' expectation did not appear to play a significant mediating role in the effect of play activity through forest experience on multiple intelligence improvement. This study has confirmed that their physical and cognitive factors of play activities through forest experience are directly affected by their parents' concern about fine dust and expectation of their safe activities, and has suggested that their sociality can be thoroughly learned through various educational programs in daycare centers, which is somewhat far from their parents' expectation of their play activities through forest experience.

A Study on Outdoor Behavior and Satisfaction of Children by the Physical Character of Outdoor Space of Housing Area in Daegu (I. 주거지 외부공간의 물리적 특성에 따른 아동의 외부활동 행태 및 만족도에 관한 연구 - 대구광역시 택지개발지구를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the guidelines for housing area that consider the children's outdoor behavior. This study was complemented the limit of study method of the previous studies limiting the subject to play space in APT. So, this study was progressed the analyzation of physical characters of outdoor spaces, the observation of children's activities behavior, and the survey of children's opinion and satisfaction. Especially, 2 objective housing areas of this study were selected the deferent areas. The deferents were the structure of street, the location shape of parks, and the physical characters(accessibility, network etc.). Finally, founding on the result of this study, the 7 guidelines of housing area for children were presented : play space, park & green space, space of around the education facilities, space of around the commercial facilities, street space, square, and parking lot. This study have means that expand the objective range and use the variety study methods.

The Assessment of Children's Literacy (아동의 문자사용능력 사정)

  • The purpose of this study was to assess children's literacy in Korea. The subjects were 147 children aged 3 to 5 in Iksan and Chonju. For the assessment of children's literacy, the revised form of WLAT(Written Language Awareness Test) (Taylor & Blum, 1980) and "The Concept About Books Interview" designed for this study were used. The test scores and oral responses of the children were analyzed by frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$ test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's r, and $Scheff{\acute{e}}$-test. The findings Showed that : (1) the children had more awareness about the mapping principles between speech and print, and the context of sentence than about technical aspects of the written language, and (2) the children had a low awareness of the ultimate function of books. Younger children recognized a hook as a play instrument, whereas older ones saw it as a decoding instrument.

Korean-Chinese Children's Family Life in Yan-Bian, China : Separated From or Living with Their Parents (중국 연변 조선족 별거가족과 동거가족 유아의 가족생활 경험)

  • Participant observations, in-depth interviews, and analyses of documents were used for collecting data. Children separated from their parents were living with grandparents because their parents were working abroad. Results included socio-cultural and psycho-social factors. (1) The socio-cultural grounded factors or the common characteristics of young children's family life in both living circumstances included early childhood academic achievement orientation, demands of responsibility and obedience, limited opportunity for social development, and societal phenomenadeveloping wide family concept affected by China's Confucianism and Korean-Chinese social culture. (2) Psycho-social grounded factors included the present care-givers' perceptions of the child's agency and their beliefs in the importance of play and friendship. This affected interactions between child and care-giversand child's self-esteem and friendships.
