Several yield criteria for porous materials are compared with each other, defining the apparent yield stress as the yield stress of the porous material in simple compression. It was found that the plastic Poisson's ratio is the parameter needed to define the yield criterion, rather than the relative density. The plastic Poisson's ratio is regarded as a material characteristic that is obtained from a simple compression test. A new form of yield criterion was suggested, and it was applied to hydrostatic compression as well as uniaxial strain compression of sintered Al-2024 powder. The crossover point in the mean stress vs volume change curves of the processes was predicted. It is presented that the flow stress of the fully densed material can be obtained from that of the porous material using relations obtained from the yield criterion.
The yield criterion, or called yield function, plays an important role in the study of plastic working of a sheet because it governs the plastic deformation properties of the sheet during plastic forming process. In this paper, we propose a novel anisotropic yield function useful for describing the plastic behavior of various anisotropic sheets. The proposed yield function includes the anisotropic version of the second stress invariant J2 and the third stress invariant J3. The anisotropic yield function newly proposed in this study is as follows. F(J2)+ αG(J3)+ βH (J2 × J3) = km The proposed yield function well explains the anisotropic plastic behavior of various sheets by introducing the parameters α and β, and also exhibits both symmetrical and asymmetrical yield surfaces. The parameters included in the proposed model are determined through an optimization algorithm from uniaxial and biaxial experimental data under proportional loading path. In this study, the validity of the proposed anisotropic yield function was verified by comparing the yield surface shape, normalized uniaxial yield stress value, and Lankford's anisotropic coefficient R-value derived with the experimental results. Application for the proposed anisotropic yield function to aluminum sheet shows symmetrical yielding behavior and to pure titanium sheet shows asymmetric yielding behavior, it was shown that the yield curve and yield behavior of various types of sheet materials can be predicted reasonably by using the proposed new yield anisotropic function.

The deformed shape of rod specimen of copper alloys was measured after the high-velocity impact against a rigid anvil and analyzed with one-dimensional theory to determine dynamic yield stress and strain-rate sensitivity which is defined as the ratio of dynamic yield stress to static flow stress. The evvect of two-dimensional deformation on the determination of dynamic yield stress by the one-dimensional theory, was investigated through comparison with the analysis by hydrocode. It showed that the one-dimensional theory is relatively consistent with two-dimensional hydrocode in spite of its simplicity in analysis.
Welded joint often contains soft or softened regions such as the HAZ of TMCP steel welded with high heat input. In this study, the equivalent yield strength of plate structure containing softened region was predicted by FEM analysis, and its incremental behavior was explained with the results of the analysis. The calculated results of yield strength indicated the following for the plate structures. 1) As the softened region starts to yield, shear stress begins to build up along the boundary between base metal and softened region. This results in multi-axial stress condition which gives restraint on the softened region. 2) Restraint effect has a significant influence on the distribution of the shear stress, the nominal stress, and the strain. 3) The yielding behavior of softened region becomes the same as that of base metal when both ratios of length to width and thickness to width of softened region are larger than 30 and 13 respectively.
The yield criterion, or called yield function, plays an important role in the study of plastic working of a sheet because it governs the plastic deformation properties of the sheet during plastic forming process. In this paper, we propose a modified version of previous anisotropic yield function (Trans. Mater. Process., 31(4) 2022, pp. 214-228) based on J2 and J3 stress invariants. The proposed anisotropic yield model has the 6th-order of stress components. The modified version of the anisotropic yield function in this study is as follows. f(J20,J30) ≡ (J20)3 + α(J30)2 + β(J20)3/2 × (J30) = k6 The proposed anisotropic yield function well explains the anisotropic plastic behavior of various sheets such as aluminum, high strength steel, magnesium alloy sheets etc. by introducing the parameters α and β, and also exhibits both symmetrical and asymmetrical yield surfaces. Application for the proposed anisotropic yield function to AA6016-T4 aluminum and DP980 sheets shows symmetrical yielding behavior and to AZ31B magnesium shows asymmetric yielding behavior, it was shown that the yield locus and yielding behavior of various types of sheet materials can be predicted reasonably by using the proposed anisotropic yield function.
In addition to lightweight and moldable characteristics, polymeric foams possess an excellent energy absorbing capability that can be utilize for a wide range of commercial applications, especially in the crashworthiness of the automobiles. The purpose of the present study is to develop experimental methodology to characterize the pressure dependent yield behavior of the energy absorbing polymeric foams. For the compression test in a triaxial stress sate, a specially designed device was placed in a hydraulic press to produce and control oil pressure. For the test material, the polyurethane foams of two different densities were used. The displacement of the specimen, the load subjected to the specimen, and oil pressure applied to the specimen were measured and controlled. Stress strain curves and yield stresses for the four different oil pressure were obtained. It was found from the present experiments that the polyurethane foams exhibited significant increases in yield stress with applied pressure or mean normal stress. Based on this observation, a yield criteria which included the effect of the stress invariant were established for the polymeric foams. The obtained experimental constants which constituted the pressure-dependent yield criterion were verified.
This paper concerns the development and implementation of an orthotropic, stress resultant elasto-plastic finite element model for the collapse load analysis of reinforced concrete plates. The model implements yield line plasticity theory for reinforced concrete. The behaviour of the yield functions are studied, and modifications introduced to ensure a robust finite element model of cases involving bending and twisting stress resultants ($M_x$, $M_y$, $M_{xy}$). Onset of plasticity is always governed by the general yield-line-model (YLM), but in some cases a switch to the stress resultant form of the von Mises function is used to ensure the proper evolution of plastic strains. Case studies are presented, involving isotropic and orthotropic plates, to assess the behaviour of the yield line approach. The YLM function is shown to perform extremely well, in predicting both the collapse loads and failure mechanisms.
The Drucker-Prager yield criterion is combined with an equilibrium equation to provide the elastic-plastic stress distribution within rotating annular hyperbolic discs and the residual stress distribution when the angular speed becomes zero. It is verified that unloading is purely elastic for the range of parameters used in the present study. A numerical technique is only necessary to solve an ordinary differential equation. The primary objective of this paper is to examine the effect of the parameter that controls the deviation of the Drucker-Prager yield criterion from the von Mises yield criterion and the geometric parameter that controls the profile of hyperbolic discs on the stress distribution at loading and the residual stress distribution.

This paper presents an elastic/plastic model that neglects strain hardening during loading, but accounts for the Bauschinger effect. These mathematical features of the model represent reasonably well the actual behavior of several materials such as high strength steels. Previous attempts to describe the behavior of this kind of materials have been restricted to a class of boundary value problems in which the state of stress in the plastic region is completely controlled by the yield stress in tension or torsion. In particular, the yield stress is supposed to be constant during loading and the forward plastic strain reduces the yield stress to be used to describe reversed yielding. The new model generalizes this approach on plane stress problems assuming that the material obeys the von Mises yield criterion during loading. Then, the model is adopted to describe reversed yielding in thin hollow discs subject to external pressure.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the yield stress of SM570TMC CFT column subject to axial force. These columns were evaluated and compared by statistical tests, during which the displacements and axial loads of column specimens were measured. Test results showed that the yield stress of CFT columns under axial load could be predicted using the previously proposed the yield stress of steel columns.
